I hate prejudging a movie as much as the next guy, but in this case i feel safe to say it- this thing has GOT to be terrible. Sandler insist on kicking some ass in every movie he is in (issues?) I dont think badass when i think Adam Sandler, sorry. This is a total indulgence piece and my indulgence of this hack ran out somewhere between Wedding Singer and Little Nicky.

So does Love Guru. And, regarding Emmanuelle Chiqui, isn't that what Borat used to say when greeting people. "Chiqui." They actually wrote this in 2000, but it got shelved because of 9/11 hypersensitivity.

...To give the title character an ACTUAL israeli name? Zohan is not an israeli name. Zohar is though. Is it too much to ask to get a single letter right in a multy million dollar project? Plus Sandler doesn't sound like an Israeli at all. He sounds like, well, Borat. For my fix of hebrew super heroes I'll go watch "The Hebrew Hammer" again.

No offense Capone, but I've got to disagree with you--this movie's fun was all in the commercials. The central joke in the movie, Sandler giving glorious sex to old and heavy women is repeated so many times, the shock value has long since ended, and you just become appalled they didn't think it was necessary to come up with another joke. Watching and listening to Sandler constantly talk about his "pp" for a short movie that seemed like 3 hours was a torture. Witless, unimaginative, repetitive, and reminiscent of, thought not as bad as, "Little Nicky." (The reason I say "not as bad as" is that there are a few laughs in this--enough for a 15 minute skit--not enough for you to waste 4 hours of your life (your time in the movie+the time it takes you to earn the money you spent on the movie). Finally, the political message at the end was idiotic. (SPOILER ALERT--but for a movie like this, is a plot spoiler really a spoiler? ) The Jewish Zohan falls in love with the Palestinian terrorist's sister so immediately the Palestinian terrorist realizes they must cooperate and love each other? Do any of these script writers read the papers? When girls like that fall in love with an infidel in real life, and their families are radicalized, the girls end up hacked to death by their brothers, uncles or fathers. They call it an "honor killing" and it is a terrible problem. The lame moral equivalence lesson at the end of the movie was as offense as it was misinformed. Final note: the PG-13 rating shows the failure of the ratings system.

Only memorable part of that movie was the half the girls head laying on top of the quivering blade while her corpse flopped down to the ground. Oh yes - and the fact they were smoking obvious Canadian cigarettes (that telltale long thin package the Canucks use) in the middle of West Virginia...

I laughed maybe 6 times in the 1 hour and 52 minute run time.

The intro is painful, and the first laugh didn't come for me until he starts cutting hair in America.

The climax is ridiculous, though mariah carey made me laugh a bit with her "Horny little man" line.

There is way to much ham-handed middle east propaganda. For a movie that is SO shallow, it feels beyond out of place.

Honestly, I'm not a movie snob, and I frequently like silly, stupid comedies... This one was just beyond weak. It boggles my fucking mind that anyone could like it... Though the audience did clap at the end (then again, most of them were teenagers). 34% on RT.com should give you a bit of a clue, regardless.

No. There's no way this is good.

the movie IS actually pretty funny for its first hour but it's a one-joke movie and that one-joke wears out its welcome halfway through. the sandler-sloane from entourage relationship is as pathetic a romance as any that has ever been featured in a sandler film. she's hot but she can't act. the best things about the movie are lainie kazan and nick swardson and the sandman himself, initially. the action in the first half is fun too. but rob schneider, who i normally have little problem with, is not funny here, nor are his two arab sidekicks. there are a ton of embarassing cameos. the movie is WAY TOO LONG by a good 20 minutes. turturro is on a completely different page than everyone else, just like in Transformers. and how many fucking hummus jokes can you make in one movie? 2 stars out of 4 and that's being generous. not as bad as mr. deeds or little nicky but it's hardly a return to form for sandler. his shtick is getting old and it sucks that he reverts back to this generic crap after such an incredible turn in reign over me. don't know what apatow was thinking getting involved with this movie but he's above this type of material now. it's strictly for 13 year-olds.

Oh no not the one about those powerful rockets that HAMAS chucks. But since you bring up rockets let us discuss the fact that these are unguided and amount to a pea shooter compared to the munitions that the IDF possesses. So on one hand you got these rockets, and on the other you have....... Cruise missiles, F-15s, F-16s, Smart bombs, Apaches. All of these weapons were gifted to Israel by the US that gives loans that somehow never get paid back.... But oooooooh those rockets! And I am not even talking about the 200 plus nuclear weapons that they have. Nuclear freaking weapons.... Oh but the children you say.... What about the Palestinian children shot up? What about the health and humanity aid blocked by the IDF? Like I said, you will probably intimate that they are savages that do not know the word Peace. The problem is that the illusion of a kind and democratic Israel is eroding to the point that people are seeing the truth: Israel treats the Palestinians like 1930's Germany treated the Jews.... deplorably.

Saw It This Afternoon With My Mom
by Autodidact
Jun 6th, 2008
09:07:34 PM
It was her idea. My dad is sick so we need distractions. I would have caught this on TV, or more likely when a friend rented it, but I had to talk her out of seeing What Happens in Vegas and she didn't want to see Kung Fu Panda.

The theme of sex with older ladies made me slightly uncomfortable sitting next to my mom, but we both just rolled with it and she laughed her head off at The Zohan's ever present massive bulge.

The non-stop hummus jokes made the movie for me, along with the very few times The Zohan pulls a Balki Bartokamus, mangling common aphorisms like "It's not over until there is a fork stuck in the fat lady. She is not done eating." The single funniest moment is from Turturo's character at the end of the movie. When I saw how he fights fire, I almost died laughing.

I consider a comedy worth my money if it provides three or four good laughs. I laughed out loud about a dozen times to this. My mom found it pretty funny and the rest of the audience seemed to be cracking up as well.

The movie is about 20 minutes too long and convoluted at the end. I was a bit letdown not to get a big action climax too, because I was looking forward to what kind of gags they would pull with the crazy logic and physics.

So, overall I guess I'd recommend it if you have any fondness for Sandler. Otherwise, avoid!

I'd like to give Sandler another chance,

u can't get fired if u never got paid in the first place. it's not like there was a year (i think 06) where i reviewed more movies than harry. it's not like harry and mori pulled my black box for no reason whatsoever, out of the sky fucking blue... either because i hadn't written anything for the site in 6 months, or because i was 'abusing' my blackbox privileges when i got too defensive whenever someone launched an unwarranted, unprovoked attack on me, or because i've made obnoxious comments on other blogs under the mirajeffaicn handle. it could be all of those factors combined. after all, i am an abrasive personality. doesn't mean i'm not talented or can't write. hell, harry can barely spell. it might be because i sent in a pineapple express review in which i admitted to being stoned when i went to go see it (as 99% of the people who go see that movie will be), although the fact is that because i got to the movie 2 hours early, i was no longer high by the time the movie started and thus my review was postable, especially considering the shit that finds its way on to this site lately. the truth is i love aicn. i can't not go to this site. and frankly, moriarty is a great guy and a fantastic writer who should be reviewing films for a major print publication rather than toiling away here. because i can see where the friends of aicn get better treatment on the site. for years i defended this site and said no, it still has its integrity, etc. but look at this shit lately. first script girl's tits and now Gone. i mean it's one thing to try and expand your core demo and build a younger readership but it's another to completely sell-out and pimp absolute trash like The Signal. i remember offering to review Postal and was told under no circumstances will aicn review an uwe boll film. why? because he's made personal attacks against harry and quint (over the line, i know)? because his other films sucked? the fact is, postal is uwe's best movie and the review should've been posted. i've sent plenty of reviews to the site when i was in its good graces that slipped through the cracks. i've driven traffic to this site and never seen a fucking dime or any words of encouragement aside from moriarty and one time when harry called me before the uwe fight (which was a HUGE promotion for this site, since there's no such thing as bad press) to wish me good luck. these are the facts.i busted my ass for years for aicn. i sent them tips. i did everything that could be asked of a kid from boston who started writing for them in college (covering tribeca), who moved out to LA and made a name for himself at the most prestigious, well respected paper in the business. and im sorry if i sound ungrateful because i truly appreciate what aicn has done for me and my career and the doors it helped open, but i am mad as hell about how my time ended here, about the deterioration of our relationship with no email, no call, no nothing. my whole identity used to be mirajeff from aint it cool. i had it on my resume when i came out to LA and now i realize what a huge disservice it did me. i love aicn and i'll always be a fan but i am done writing for them (especially once they read this) because they lack common courtesy. i bump into mori a bunch out here and i'm always polite because i honestly respect him as both a screenwriter and a critic. i wish that respect went both ways but i don't think it does. that's a shame. because one day.... one day soon, AICN will rue the day it pinkslipped MiraJeff. over and out.

god there's so much more that i want to say but i can't get into right now because believe it or not, i actually have a date. a few notes though. the #1 thing i want to say is that MORI is a great guy who reached out and at least tried to take me under his wing a little bit here in LA. I have no beef with McWeeny, and he (and you) should take note of the efforts I've made to hype his projects when applicable, whether it's inserting his name in the dek of a story or giving it good placement on the site or whatever. i've always tried to do right by him. what i don't like is some of aicn's editorial policies. i felt taken advantage of during my time here and my friends and family felt i shouldve spoken up for myself but i didnt because i just felt lucky to be writing for aicn and getting the cool opportunities i was getting. i don't want to air ALL the dirty laundry because that's not cool. all i know is, i tried to help aicn and be the best writer i could for him. but i want all of you to know that the #1 worst thing about writing for AICN is YOU. all of you with your fucking negativity. it's fucking disgusting. the talkbacks these days are unbelievable and i think mori has written something before to this effect. thank you all for reading my shit and if i have any fans on here, god bless you, but before i sign off, i want to say FUCK YOU to each and every one of you and if that pisses you off feel free to say it back to me. i'm a big boy now. i can take it. at least i'm honest and candid about what's actually going on here, which if u haven't noticed, is the degradation of the aint it cool brand. xoxo, mira

Actually, I think that you were one of the better parts of AICN. That said, you deserve to tell us to fuck off, as most of us are whiny, self-absorbed cunts.

Thank you for taking the time to throw some truth into the mix. Hopefully, Harry will see that his ship is sinking, but something tells me that the captain lost touch a long time ago, and the ship is fucked.

I have never, not once, spoken out against this site until they premiered "Gone," but enough is enough. I have supported this site, even when it was obvious that Harry was playing to corporate interests, because I agree with the sense of enthusiasm that the reviews exuded, but no longer.

Good luck to you, as you deserve a career in writing, and I think that you will succeed.

Harry, as a long-time supporter, always silent unless it was positive, go fuck yourself. We come to this site, delivering your necessary advertising quota, and THIS is how you treat us? Yes, it is personal, especially when you try to sell us advertising as news. Fuck you, and your site, and the way you treat your writers.

Harry, if you change your tactics, you may get your readership back, but continue this shit and you will destined to follow Pets.com. And you know what, looking at the current state of this site, it may be about fucking time.

I've been saying for months that AICN needs to get its act together. I think you really should expose the behind the scenes crap, if only to cleanse the site.

Do it for the love of what AICN was, or should be. If everyone knows what's been going on, then maybe it will force Harry to start fresh and try to win back credibility. After all, isn't that what this site needs the most?

If it takes a former staff member going public to get the site back on track, then it can only be a good thing.

The site and staff need a drastic change of direction and attitude...or else it needs to be shut down. It can't survive on its current, destructive path.

I know you don't want to go public with everything because you love the site, but that's exactly the reason why you SHOULD go public. It might be the only way to save it.

I've seen MiraJeff's black box appear in several talkbacks and wondered why he had one, as I couldn't place anything he'd written for the site. Now I know why. His submissions were being disregarded (in favor of bullshit that isn't newsworthy, like as not).

Headgeek posts review after review, gushing uncontrollably over every film that he sees (I know his spastic weeping during Indy 4 is still fresh in all your minds), and yet he still has the balls to fire people nonchalantly for such nebulous reasons as those described by Mira.

P.S. I wonder what two of our more prolific brethren have to say about this. Weigh in BSB and DGDB!

I've been coming to this site for a few years and the talkback has always been rife with negativity, regardless of the thread. That is what happens when anonymous people on the internet disagree.

For example, if you walked out of a screening of Spider-Man 3 in real life and heard someone raving about it, you'd roll your eyes and exit. If, however, someone on these boards were to defend it (though I can't see anyone around these parts doing that) there would be multiple posts letting that person know that they are the product of incestuous relations between livestock and that their most redeeming feature is that they will one day die.

It's an anonymous message board, and far from being the worst thing about the site. It is the one reason why I come here. So yeah...fuck you too. Cheers!

But then again, so is pretty much everyone else. I've been coming here as a lurker for years, looking for the inside scoop on film and scripts, but now AICN has become crap, joining the ranks of TMZ and ET, and it all started when Harry changed the wallpaper to this HIDEOUS FUCKING INDEPENDANCE DAY THING! Harry, you're an asshole. A bloated tick of a movie fan, sucking the life out of your own site (which, as it IS your site, you are allowed to do) but listen, you slathering corporate meat-puppet, 'don't piss down my neck and tell me it's rain' (Gee, Harry, bonus points if you can name THAT actor and movie), and don't crank out purile teen angst comics and tell me it's literature. Problems with the Cool News
by Franklin T Marmoset

MiraJeff has a right to express his opinion, but unfettered negativity has always been highly prevalent on this site, so to suggest that there's been an increase or that it's in some way harming the site is absurd. There have always been angry assholes here and there always will - either ignoring them, arguing with them, or taking the piss out of them is part of the AICN experience.

If AICN has a problem, it's in the declining quality of it's 'cool' news. Too many staffers here have been attempting to slide into the film business (fair enough - good luck to them), meaning they have ditched their outsider status and drastically reduced the site's stock in trade (insider scoops, spoilers and whatnot). This site used to have balls, but now it barely even has teeth. I used to lap up all the news at AICN, but these days I hardly bother with it at all. What that means is I come here more for the Talkbacks than for anything else. It's the one remaining idiosynracy of a site that's lost its way. Hanging out here, trading sarcastic riffs, talking about films we've seen, continuing in my Quixotic quest to promote the genius of the Fantastic Four films - that is the COOL in Ain't It Cool News as far as I'm concerned. So, MiraJeff, how about you set aside those sour grapes you appear to be carrying and fuck yourself, buddy.

To be fair, dude, nobody thought fighting Boll was a good idea and you did it anyway. You knew our stance on covering his movies and still sent in a review, then got upset when we didn't post it? Reading your comments, I sympathize with you, but I think you're a bit off-base and have no real understanding of what we take offense to. I don't know if there's ever been anything organized behind the scenes about you... I think you just made a statement while blackboxed that pissed Harry off. You have to also concede that when you were de-boxed you hadn't written anything in half a year. The blackboxes are there for writers, editors and special guests of the site, Harry said as much when he took it away if I remember correctly. Regular talkbackers were even commenting that they didn't know who you were after you'd post some comment... and usually your comments were calling out people actually writing... sometimes respectfully, but sometimes not. I understand your feelings, but I think you're trying to make this a bigger deal than it is, some huge indictment of the site as a whole. As a result, I think you're saying some pretty harmful and untrue things in the process.

This was *the worst* movie I have seen since "epic movie". That's only because I skipped "meet the spartans". The jokes here are poorly handled, and very stupid. The audience groaned a lot because they were so weak. There was much in the same solar system as funny. At the 40 minute mark, people started walking out. At the 1 hour mark, I said enough of this pile of shit, and I walked out also. This movie is so fucking rotten it makes "Little Nicky" seem like a masterpiece.

I talk about it a bit in the Pixar John Carter talkback, but the short short version is: we got an email from the book's publicity department asking if we wanted to run some chapters of this book. I know Harry received an early copy, I think he said he liked it. Outside of that, I haven't been involved in any of the Gone stuff, so I guess it'd be either Harry or Merrick to ask. I see that it's not popular and I can see why, but people who are saying money changed hands for this publicity are wrong. That's not how it works. I think it's simply Harry liking the material and accepting the publicists' offer of posting a chapter a day. That'd be my guess, but like I said I'm not involved with any of it.
Thankyou Quint

If that's the case...I know it's Harrys site and he can do what he likes and post what he likes...but if he wants to keep the site going and save any credibility whatsoever and keep people coming back, then someone needs to have a talk with him and tell them to pull the article.

There's another 11 chapters of this...the talkbackers don't like it, it's turning out to be terrible publicity for both the book and AICN and if what you say is true, and there is no deals or contracts, then it should be pulled for the sake of the site.

I think what pisses people off the most is that articles like this are being posted while dozens of movie news stories don't get a mention.

I remember sending you Dragonball pictures a while back, I'm sure you got a few emails about it from other people as well. The movie might end up being complete shit, but it's still news, still something that people want to read about.

If people come here in the next two weeks and see articles for some book that they don't give a shit about instead of articles on the latest hollywood blockbuster screw up or whatever, then they'll just go elsewhere.

Obviously you guys cant spend every second looking after the site and I know you do your best to get interviews and set visits for movies that we want to know about, and we appreciate that, believe me.

But there's also the daily grind...posting the latest stories to come out of movie and tv land and frankly you guys have dropped way off in that department. If you're too busy doing set visits etc to spend the time needed, that's fine. Maybe Harry should hire a few people to do that job of posting news and nothing else, leaving you and the others free to do what you do best and get the cool interviews etc.

Thanks, Quint...

... I just got hipped to the discussion over here, and thought I'd chime in about MiraJeff.

First of all, he was not fired. He was never hired. He enjoyed sending us contributions, and that's great, but we have a very, very small staff that is actually working for us. So no one fired him or told him he could never contribute again or anything of the sort.

Regarding the black box thing... I dunno what happened. I'm assuming Harry was the one who chose to reset the talkback account for him, and if so, I'm sure Harry had his reasons. I think Quint's probably pretty on target with the whole thing about not contributing for a while, but even so... I don't know. It's not a big deal, and it's not like he's been barred from posting to the talkbacks. Or even like his talkbacks here were censored.

I am sorry that MiraJeff feels slighted, but there are any number of reasons we do or don't publish things that are submitted, and based on the sheer volume of stuff sent in, we don't always e-mail someone to say, "We've already run 2000 reviews of this and it feels like overkill to run another" or "Nope, still not posting Uwe Boll stories, thanks" every single time. I'll certainly try to be clearer in the future.

But let's be clear: before you decide you're going to launch some nuclear attack on "editorial policies," be absolutely sure (A) you know what you're talking about and (B) you define your terms properly. You were not fired here. You were not hired here. You chose to contribute things, and you were never promised any payment, so don't act slighted. If you wanted a job, you should have asked for a job, and then that could have been a discussion. Doing it in the talkbacks now, though, and accusing the site of treating you wrong financially? Poor form.

I'm sorry you're unhappy with your treatment. I'm sorry you decided to vent about it here. I hope you're happy with whatever else you choose to do in the future.

Mori and Quint, thank you for weighing in on the situation, as I do appreciate what both of you have to say, and you're right, i don't have any idea as to what goes on behind the editorial scenes here. and perhaps the talkbacks weren't the best place to have this discussion but it was a very public banishment, as far as I was concerned, and clearly, regardless of whether I was liked or disliked on this site, enough people have commented on my post to warrant a reaction from the two of you guys.

while i know i went overboard in the talkbacks sometimes while i had my black box, i still felt as though that distinguished me as not just another talkbacker. but you can't say i never asked for a job because i have copies of multiple emails I used to send to harry@aintitcool.com, which is copied to both your box and quint's, asking for some small financial consideration considering how often i wrote for the site back in the day. and i was referred to roland, aicn's business manager. and i was told that there was no room on staff. and then shortly after that merrick was brought on board as a full-time editor and i remember feeling slighted until it was revealed that merrick actually pre-dated me on the site, which is fine. i don't know if i was ready for the responsibility of posting stories and such. but don't be like u should've asked and maybe we could've discussed it because i wrote several emails making my feelings known.

i never felt like u guys owed me anything. i was happy just to be writing for you. and yeah, i know how harry and quint felt about me fighting uwe but i did it anyways because i felt like i was fighting for the site's honor. i mean, we could've been the bigger men and walked away but shit, he called us out by name and since none of the Big 3 were going to do it for fear of losing, I stepped up to the plate and willingly took one for the team. it's not like AICN needed the extra attention or anything but it's naive to think that that event didn't bring it any.

i was a kid who was lucky enough to be brought into the fold by Sheldrake, and then when he and Harry had a falling out because of the former's legal problems, it was like, I was the garbage you guys forgot to take out along with him. and i have absolutely no idea what the financial considerations of this site are or who is working on the back-end to make it all happen but i've been approached by numerous smaller sites than AICN who can afford to pay their writers a small stipend or quarterly bonus, or whatever.

and it's not even the amount that matters. it's the principal. i was a kid who you guys took advantage of. i went to screenings, junkets, did interviews, incurring the travel costs of everything as well, all on behalf of the site, and i arranged everything for myself with the exception of The Eye set visit, which I admittedly let you down on by not writing anything, although there was no story there and that movie turned out to be one of the 2-worst films of the year, along with Prom Night, so frankly we were better off distancing ourselves from that crap.

i just feel like i could've been more of a resource here and u guys didn't appreciate the work I did for free. i was ready for more responsibility, ready for you to rely on me, but u guys couldn't commit, at least not financially in any way. (i remember little things nagging at me, like not being asked to contribute to certain review series for which all other aicn contributors wrote stories) and once i started getting paid for my reviews at other sites, it was like, what am i doing this for? why am i busting my ass for no recognition? sure it's great to log on to aicn and see one of my reviews up there but it wasn't helping me pay my bills or anything, so i just stopped contributing, and i made up for that absence by being a more vocal presence in the talkbacks, although clearly that pissed a lot of people of including Head Geek.

Well Harry, whatever I said, I apologize for, I just wish you could have told me to my face (not literally of course, but in an email or phone call, what your problem with me was). i didn't like coming home and being locked out, so to speak. ultimately, i hope this is just a bad a break up and we can go back to being friends, because let's face it, we here in the online community have to rely and depend on each other. and if u really read between the lines in my comments, i hope you can see that i truly care about the future of aicn. i wasn't writing as a bitter ex-employee (well, maybe a little), but as someone offering you some constructive criticism. i admire that you guys are trying some unorthodox things to drive traffic and maybe reach a little bit younger audience not as familiar with AICN, but i felt like some of those moves were coming at the expense of the site's integrity. maybe you guys didn't receive a penny for this Gone series but you have to be able to see how it looks to the purists on here, the guys who have been reading this site for going on 10 years. it looks like a crass, shameless marketing ploy. i mean, no offense to script girl either, but c'mon, if that was a guy who didn't have mouth-watrering tits, would you really be posting his youtube videos. i highly, highly doubt it.

that's just me speculating though. and ultimately that is where I am at a supreme disadvantage, everything i write here is just pure conjecture. and i apologize if you think it's harmful but that's just the way it looks. i mean, if script girl is still around in a few years, delivering her weekly cleavage reports without you guys having to pay for access to her webcam, then forgive me, i had this site pegged wrong. but i have a feeling she'll eventually get tired of doing lots of research and writing a weekly script and showing off her boobies every week for no pay, call me crazy. i mean, granted, my reviews were never as well-written as Mori's or as well-informed as Harry's, but despite too much plot summation, they were good enough to demand a weekly audience that i spent years trying to build only to be blacklisted for some not-very-good reason that has yet to be explained to be by the man Himself. i mean, i can't say i blame you guys for giving me the cold shoulder but at the same time, you can't say the blame is all on me because there was hardly any communication from your end. you know, as a young journalist finding his way, i've certainly made mistakes (think Grudge II) as I'm sure plenty of people do, but there was never any effort to help me learn from those mistakes. sometimes all a young guy needs is a chance and i felt discouraged at more than one turn during my aicn tenure though i pressed on because i felt like i could've fit in quite comfortably with team AICN. But working against me, i don't live in Texas and I'm not chummy with Harry so I don't get the Massawyrm treatment with the avatar and what not. I just always felt like a second class citizen during my time here, the retard in the back of the class who liked Crash.

i hope you guys can forgive me, i just had to vent my frustrations once and for all rather than allow myself to disappear silently into the night without a fight. as you all know, that's not my style.

my last point goes out to all you talkbackers out there. aicn is a community for movie lovers. not movie haters. i think we've all fallen victim to the hate that seems to have infected these parts. i'm guilty of it. tom bodet's guilty of it. we're all guilty of it. so do me a favor. let my exit unite you all in movie love. choose a random talkback and write a post about your favorite movie or director or writer or actor and just let the love flow. that's how i'd like you guys to honor my fallen screenname. just geek out and express yourself from a place of love, just once today/tomorrow. instead of being defined by what we hate, let us be defined by what we love and what we're all passionate about... movie. Even though I'll have a mouthful of venom for anyone who tries to tell me that The Signal isn't trash, I'd like to remind everyone that all opinions have value and are created equal. there is no right or wrong when it comes to art. and regardless of whether or not you think something like space chimps is art, to the guy who slaved away for years trying to bring it to the bigscreen, it very much is, and before i slag another project, i'll think about how much time, effort, manpower, blood, sweat and tears went into the thing. sometimes on the internet we're too quick to rush to judgment and dismiss a project that took up years of many peoples' lives and is the culmination of many dreams. if there's one thing i most regret about my time at aicn it was the time spent harping on shitty films and not enough time talking up the great ones. and that's why i understand harry when he says that he's selective in the reviews he chooses to write because he finds it depressing to write about films he doesn't love. i wish i hadn't been such a passionate hater and i hope you talkbackers will see the light and change your evil ways.

p.s. if you haven't seen The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, amend your empty lives. you don't know what you're missing... the mirajeff will resurface. you won't know where and you won't know when but when he does, watch out because this writer is a fighter.

Mirajeff- enough. Walk away with what remains of your tattered dignity.

Comment as an ordinary user ike the rest of us purple-box plebs if you want, but this whining is demeaning- you've been told, now stop it. I'll bet most that post here have been fired (even though you were never hired etc) at some point in their career, but few will have put in the performance you're doing now.

"Sure it also has an oversimplified look at and solution to a major global situation " What did you expect ya knucklehead? It's an Adam Sandler comedy. A SUMMER Adam Sandler Comedy. It seems the harder you try to be sophisticated and intelligent, the more childish your reviews are. This movie was about dick jokes and a hot babe, everything else was mere supportive tissue. Plus you didn't say anything about the apparent Piscopo-ation of Adam SAndler.

I got about 45 minutes into it and left, along with my friend. Too much stupid slapstick and unfunny shit for my taste; it was Naked Gun type humor.

Ooh, "Big Boy" discussion!! I just love it. What are your qualifications, exactly, for talking about the subject of Israel and Nazi Germany? Are you, by any chance, a WWII veteran or a person living in Israel? Comparing Israel to Nazi Germany?? Wow. Where did you get that analogy?? Since when is Israel gassing millions of people a day and burning them in ovens? Or using the skins of people they don't like for lampshades? Or performing experiments on them (like the poor Jewish athelete who went to see SS Nazi Dr. Mengele for a foot injury - he ended up having his liver removed WHILE alive, then dissected and Mengele kept his head because he liked to look at his "healthy teeth."). When did Israel do something like that? Did Israel brand people with a serial number on their arms? And "being critical of Israeli policy has nothing to do with any anti-Jewish sentiment"? Who do you think live in Israel, French people?? Looks like you are the one who needs to read a book. Unless all you read is "Mein Kampf" written by Hitler -- sounds like that's your main source of information, there.

... I take exception with much of what you wrote, but this in particular:

"I mean, we could've been the bigger men and walked away but shit, he called us out by name and since none of the Big 3 were going to do it for fear of losing, I stepped up to the plate and willingly took one for the team."

Fear of losing had precisely fuck-all to do with the decision, and I'll say this again since you seem to think only Harry and Quint were opposed to you going. I think it was absolutely 100% wrong to take part in that fight.

I'm not afraid of Uwe Boll unless he ends up directing something I wrote. The reason we didn't want anything to do with it is because he cannot get attention for his movies WITH his movies, so he gets attention with publicity stunts. That's all it was. Every time you pay attention to him, every time you participate in anything with you, you validate him. You perpetuate his career. That fight didn't hurt him. It kept him in the news. You fell for the bait we asked you not to fall for, and then you act like it's an honorable thing.

I'm sorry you got hurt up there, but if you want the stone-cold truth here in public, since that's where you seem determined to have this conversation, this may be the main reason you were never warmly embraced here at the site. I detest Boll and his sideshow antics, and you flying up there to participate somehow implied that we regard him as worth conversation. You know how you make Uwe Boll go away? Not by taking a beating from him in public, Jeff... but by simply ignoring him altogether. No press = No Boll. And you went up there under the name Ain't It Cool News despite us not wanting that to happen at all. Yes, you did things under your own steam and your own motivation, but you did so with our name, a name I personally have spent 12 years working on.

As I said earlier, I wish you only well with whatever you do in the future. I think you're a decent guy. I guess I didn't realize how much discontent you were brewing all this time, because I spent most of my time just trying to stay afloat. We are not some corporation that churns out employees or that runs some massive overhead. Most of us are just trying to make ends meet, even after this long doing this.

Fair enough, man. I totally hear what you're saying and honestly, the stuff I wrote above is how I felt back then and never spoke up about. Today, it seems things have worked out and personally, it's water under the bridge. Do I wish things had worked out better between me and AICN? Yes. But whatever. I'm content with just being reading it these days. I mean, you guys are great at what you do. This is one of the only places on the Web where people are as passionate about film as I am, I just wish it didn't feed on this undercurrent of negativity, because it got to the point where I was afraid to read my own talkbacks, knowing nothing good could come of it. I know that you were opposed to me going to Vancouver but my 'star'struck short-sightedness (not to mention a free trip to Vancouver to be a footnote in pop culture history) won me over. I'm sorry if I embarassed AICN or drew scorn upon it's good name. I probably should've taken it more seriously and trained and what not but I don't think anyone was counting on or expecting me to win. I guess what I wasn't prepared for was how big that event would be and how the media would continue to bring it up in every interview years later, and how my fighting him gave him the opportunity to go around bragging about he defeated AICN or whatever. And yes I know the whole, if you ignore him, he'll go away, but I still felt like we should've run Postal reviews, if only because somewhere out there, in some insane asylum or something, there are fans of Uwe Boll, and there are people who may have never heard of him or seen his movies, who might be curious about going, and in the interest of fairness, I thought my take on the film was worthy of being posted (especially since I had every reason to inject bias, but I can separate my personal feelings about the filmmaker from the film he's made)... And yes, I thought it'd be a good opportunity to get a little bit of press for myself. Perhaps it was selfish to piggyback on AICN's notoriety (especially since I had never seen an Uwe Boll film before the fight, or written about him on AICN), but I saw an opportunity I couldn't pass up and I can't say I regret it. The only thing I regret is that there wasn't more communication between me and AICN's Powers That Be. No hard feelings and I appreciate you wishing well on me. Like I said, I respect you immensely as a self-made guy. You and Scotty didn't break into this business because of nepotism. You clawed your way through the ranks and now your stuff's gonna be on NBC this summer. You and HK took this little tiny website from a basement to a bonafide Internet phenomenon and I only wish I could've ridden the wave longer but I know all good things must come to an end and despite what you've read above, there really is no animosity on my part, not anymore, just bitter memories of being frustrated by certain decisions AICN did and did not make, decisions that I wish had been better explained at the time. Also, if you guys had had me on the payroll and asked me not to go to Vancouver, there wouldn't have even been a conversation. I wouldn't have gone. But when you're telling me I shouldn't do something, it's like, well why do I need to justify myself to these guys when they don't take care of me and I'm not their employee. Maybe the decision to fight was made in poor taste but it was an unforgettable experience (trust me, I've tried) and I'm sorry my decision rubbed you and Harry and Quint the wrong way. And you KNOW I would've preferred to have this conversation in private but whenever I did send personal emails to you guys in the past they were rarely, if ever, returned, so if this is the forum that prompts a response (which I appreciate by the way) then so be it. And you have both my personal and my work email and we could've continued this conversation in private but I think you have the same need to explain to everyone what happened as I do, since it's clear they're curious (although they just want me to talk shit about HK, they don't actually care about my well-being or lack thereof... another theme, the talkbackers' unqunechable bloodlust). But I didn't jump in here and just start rambling. People seemed to be wondering where I've been so I thought I would tell them what went down as far as I understood it, whcih I still don't, since I was writing for you guys for a full year after Raging Boll and it never seemed to be a problem until I started pushing talkbackers' buttons with my black box when they would personally slag on me (something I might've been inclined to take on the chin if I was receiving anything for my work, but I wasn't, and they had no right to get personal, so I felt the need to defend myself with whatever words necessary).

Stop it. You're embarrasing yourself by posting collosal tomes that fluctuate between sycophancy and sickening whining. This is doing you no favours at all.

Grow the fuck up, walk away and stop this horrible performance.

I don't participate in this site nearly as much as most, (I posted a parody of Harry's reviewing style about 5 years ago and my account was canceled), so I'm not that familiar with this whole mirajeff issue. I am familiar though with the typical practice of taking advantage of eager new people willing to work for free for any opportunity to get a break into the industry. AICN can point out that no promises were made to Mirajeff and that may be true but that doesn't excuse the site or its staff from basic human decency. If you are not going to provide somebody like him any opportunities, then be upfront. Just because you managed to avoid the conversation doesn't excuse you from taking advantage. Be adults and treat people with respect and dignity. I know that concept is somewhat foreign here but give it a try. Based on my experience, being banned for daring to make fun of Harry's bodily fluids filled reviews, I would also suggest that you try to figure out how you handle any changes such as MiraJeffs like adults. A simple email or call would have gone a long way. Not a fan of the guy's writing but that's no reason to treat him that way.

That is what it felt like reading Mirajeff's posts. My God, man, please stop. Jarv said it best, you are alternating between whiny obstinancy, and sickening obsequiousness (ok those were my words but his meaning). Venting - in public, when you are clearlys till upset, is a very, very, very bad idea. Yes, by all means, write out everything you want to say, but do not post it!

Well, that donkey done left the shitter, so it is too late for you on that point. But in the future - and I know you are young, just consider that you may not want some things coming back to haunt you.

Learn paragraph breaks and stop talking in text speak (u instead of you). If that was how you typed when you had your black box then no wonder it got taken away. You rant like an angry 16 year old talkbacker.
