the iron man trailer which condenced the origin into like 5 minutes is a great example of how the start of iron man goes on for soo long for no reason, we get it, he's building a suit, I don't give a crap about your indian scientist friend.that part is soo long, it didn't need to be, the trailer did it better in 5 minutes then it did in 40.

Take some Ritalin and slow down. There is this thing called DRAMA. It is where actors inhabit characters and try to evoke emotion and tell a story. In Iron Man, it was important to show how Tony Stark changed to become the man who would build the Iron man suit. It is not about the suit--it is about the Man in the Suit.

So, it is all about metamorphosis. That is a big, complicated word for change. The suit is the icing on the cake.

Now, about the Hulk...

I cannot wait. My first comic book was the Marvel Treasury Edition #17 - featuring The Incredible Hulk from 1978 (well, besides the 3-pack reprint Star Wars comics that we all had).

It was oversized, full-color and had Hulk battleing Rhino, The Leader, Havok, and a swamp thing rip-off called the Glob. I have been collecting comics for 30 years now, 25 of which I have been a serious collector. Thanks, Hulk! See you at the movies!

And I will give this one a shot in theaters. I like Marvel's patience at building a team, rather throwing it at us in one out-of-continuity lump (cough-JLA-cough), but the Dark Knight will own the summer. He'll beat Indy, he'll beat Speed, and yeah, I'll say it, he'll beat Tony. Maybe that's because of Heath. Maybe it'll just be that good. I dunno, but my money's on Bats. Hulk does sound good, though.

For one thing, real reader reviews don't start off by telling you when the movie hits the theatres. Secondly, his whole review smacks of a used car salesman's pitch.
the crap CGI not being mentioned is not indicitive of anything in the other 2 reviews though. Honestly, every time I see clips of the film, I immediately notice how cartoony Hulk looks, but then immediately chastize myself due to the fact that well...Hulk looking 'real' was never an expectation when reading the comics, or watching cartoons. I figure I'm going to be watching this from the perspective of 'this is the most realistic Hulk cartoon made to date' rather than 'this 10ft tall green skinned man with a fundamentally unrealistic look to begin with, does not look realistic'. I know what a green skinned mr universe in purple shorts look like. Lou Ferrigno. Any attempt to make Hulk actaully look realistic would make him look 100x more absurd than he does in CGI cartoon form. Just count your blessings it's not Nicholas Cage painted green in a black leather trenchcoat fighting a mechanical spider.

You're right about why Iron Man worked: you give a shit about Tony Stark. This works because you give a shit about Bruce Banner. Ed Norton used to be touted as the Greatest Actor of His Generation (TM) before he went and did shit like The Illusionist. This isn't going to get him any oscars and its a lot more subdued and subtle than Downey's performance, but he's still pretty fucking good. Can't wait to see Downey and Norton exchanging tech speak as they try to design stuff.

The slowness has to serve a point. He's making a suit. we fucking get it. he's still making the suit. we fucking get it. so drawn out. they could've put so much more action in that movie. oh, and the action was pretty basic in that film. why did people like iron man again?

Iron Man was an ok movie, that had a very fun performance (no brooding) from a great actor like Robert Downey Jr. I think that's the reason why it is superior to the Spiderman movies, X-Men et al. Now, for some reason I'm not surprised Hulk is getting glowing reviews here.

what happens when all these leads end up in the same movie and MARVEL can't afford to pay them all?

Norton, Downey Jr, Sam Jackson, and whoever big name dudes they get to play Cap, Thor, and all these other parts. Thats like the cast of Oceans 11, in a comic movie. Thats a lot of money being dropped on actors. Will the effects be shorted? will the story, because you have to give each of them equal screen time?

believe me, i'm as stoked as anyone (well, maybe not as stoked as Harry) to see a fleshed out, cohesive MARVEL U on film, but thinking about the logistics of it all kind of scares me.

If it's a quality product, and I may be being naieve here, I think the people they're getting into this new breed of Marvel flick actually are doing it because they have a caring for the material (as well as naturally an interest in a healthy payday).

Listening to Downey and Norton esp in interview, they seem to have a genuine enthusiasm that is rubbing off on the quality of the movie. Likewise (unrelatedly) Bale appears to be enjoying the Batman project with Nolan. Sure the logistics is a practical and large concern, but perhaps not as much as it used to be for this kind of film. In the same way the principles took a cut to appear in Oceans, hopefully the same will happen here (although i realise the circumstances are very different)

Avi Arad is just a businessman who has no soul, he gives not one shit, every franchise outside of marvel studios needs to be rebooted because it isn't completely true, all this bullshit from him about characterization being important in spidey, what characterization? that is not peter parker or spidey not is it mary jane. and all this bullshit about tobey maguire being in cider house rules, who gives a shit, he failed as peter parker.

Is explained in quantum physics terms in A.A. Attanasio's 'The Dragon and the Unicorn'. Yggdrasil, which Gods don't like iron, the works. Makes me wish I'd paid more attention in the physics lab.

Solid entry into developing Marvel film universe.

I saw it, and most of the reviews are pretty spot on. Roth is solid, Hurt is reigned in hammy, Tyler makes me wonder where her elf ears were the whole time (she really does whisper every damn line) and Norton was great. I always ssem to forget where the hype around him comes from, until I see him on screen. He really does have a unique presence (maybe it's just his super cool voice, rewatch Kingdom of Heaven if you doubt me), but he does make you empathise with a "normal" man dealing with an unspeakable power lurking inside that he wants to be rid of. And he does it much better than Bana did (no disrepect to Eric Bana). The CGI fine, and by fine I re-iterate what countless others have said. We all have a pretty good idea what a guy in a red, black, or blue would look like bombing around in. Hulk is really the only super hero to have non human proportions, and DOES look a little weird. You know why, cause he's 8 fucking feet tall and 6 fucking feet wide of solid green muscle! As for the end bit with Stark & Thunderbolt, if you have any attachement to the Marvel Universe (and I wholeheartly do) you cannot be anything but geeked at what they are laying the ground work for. Suck on that Warner/DC.

Warner Bros hit back with the Gay directed Green Lantern

Cos that's what their most potential franchise with DC's manliest hero needs. A director who made an awful gay romantic comedy and who adds gay into every pansy show he does. Hey Bryan Singer was gay when he made X-men but he didn't try to put gay elements into everything he did and he had the usual suspects on his resume, not the broken hearts club. Greg Berlanti directing Green Lantern is like Michael Bay directing Sex and the city.

to give it to the showrunner of Brothers and Sisters and the director of The broken hearts club starring Dean Cain. Fucking Idiots. GIVE IT TO SPIELBERG, CAMERON OR RIDLEY SCOTT! AND FOR FUCKS SAKE HIRE GEOFF JOHNS TO WRITE IT! He's the only one who has ever made Hal Jordan interesting and you hire Marc Guggenheim, who doesn't even write decent comics? Fucking fucking hell.

You though Willie Lumpkin was embarassing? The FF cameos were his best since they had him playing an actual character from the book and in the second one, the same damn part he played in the book when Sue and Reed got married. Embarassing indeed.

common man I worked hard on it my girl was like god your such a nerd but I did it on my iPhone right after the movie was over in chipotle on 72nd. Well whatever the movie was awesome and it sets up the sequel and next villian better than any other movie , more subtle than the joker reference its something only comic fans probably will get sort of like the ten ring army references.

Finally i'm not the only one that thought Iron Man was not the second coming.. like above posters have said it was an ok movie helped by Downey's awesome performance as stark... there really wasn't that much action in it and the orgin could have been shorter imo.... here's hoping that the hulk is as good as these reviews say...

I live in the UK and the film was a smash, everyone I know who saw it thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Two things going against the movie unfortunately that will mute its overseas box office is the "Americanism" of the whole thing, it's pretty much looks like a propaganda flick from the surface and when you add the fact that he's not a well known character like Batman, Superman or Spiderman then you realize most people simply won't discover this film until it hits home video. That in mind the movie has still managed to perform remarkably well and in the US it's still holding the 3rd spot after 5 weeks. - I wish people who nit-pick about CGI would just piss off, CGI is nothing but a tool just like Blue Screen, Model Work, Minatures etc. We grew up watching tons of fantasy and sci fi using theseold techniques that didn't look real but looked good enough to tell the story. CGI simply needs to do the same thing so I can't fathom where they suddenly got this bee in their bonnet about it needing to be perfect as hell in order for them to engage their imagination. Every whiny emo who goes on about the Hulks CGI needs to get of the "Perfection-expectation" bandwagon and step into the A.M! This movie will not Bomb simply because they want it to, the reviews will not all be damning simply because they expected it to. People who give it a thumbs up review are not all plants simply because they disagree with your assumption. And fans of Ang Lees Hulk need to understand, his movie was simply beneath the requisite of what people expected from a Hulk movie. Nobody cares about Hulks father or Banner's family abuse. It was a nice movie but it had very little punch and zero repeat viewing factor, in fact it put a lot of people to sleep. This movie is giving the people what they want, its not dumbed down, it simply is what its supposed to be in the first place. Well paced action and dramatic fantasy for all the family; not all the art house lovers!

Green Lantern pitch meeting: "There's this guy with a green hornet mask and a green suit with a picture of a lantern on it, just so you know...he's the guy you're supposed to be watching...anyway he has this ring, also with a lantern on it...you can see where I'm going here...and get this...he shoots stuff out of the ring...but not like lasers or missles...he shoots like...chairs, socket wrenches, whatever he needs at the time. Oh yeah, plus he can pick shit up with it and like...levitate it...or set it back down...whatever he wants."
