I'm not claiming high art for all VideoGames but we've all heard this crap before. Oddly enough for Movies when they first flickered insolently onto an unsuspecting public & deeply suspicious Theatre and Literature obsessed elite and indeed the same type of hysteria accompanied Comic books early popularity because they were rotting the Brains of impressionable children way back when.

Are all VideoGames well produced and employ a great deal of creative talent ? Like fuck they are.

However there are more than enough extremely well regarded Games by now that surely this same tired & outdated argument can be put to rest until the NEXT upstart Mediaform appears.

Face it most Movies and Comics and yes, even most plays & books are lucky to be average and more often than not just plain shit given the sheer amount of total numbers released into the world, so lets not pretend crap was somehow invented with the VideoGame or the VideoGame Movie.

Storywise VideoGames are still wrestling with incorporating a complex narrative into freeform worlds balancing how much the narrative can change depending on events. Movies and Comics DO NOT have that problem. So it's no surprise that compeling narratives are still rare.

Comic book adaptations in case you haven't noticed have been usurping "actual" Movies to an ever sillier degree with a Plethora of 2nd and EVEN 3rd generation re-imaginings of the same Comic Properties. I personally don't mind that too much but if you can make a Movie out of a Theme Park Ride or a Comic then why be so snotty about VideoGames ?

Uwe Boll is a laughably obvious cheap hack. Just because almost every VideoGame Movie has been handled by the bottom feeders and the chronically inept like him doesn't mean the source is at fault.

The more reasonable explanation is that shit Directors, Producers and Actors will make a shit Movie whether you give them Macbeth or Monkey Island as the source material.

Whereas real talent can make a good Movie out of almost anything.

I know, I grew up on the stuff too, and spent plenty on quarters and consoles, but I get pre-emptively irked as only a talkbacker can when I see Walter B wasting the finite screen time God has granted him by signing on to play a video game character lifted from characters in better movies that didn't have the burden of being licensed video game content, and I just needed to vent my spleen to the only place that caters to people who waste their time talking about what increasingly amount to wastes of time in general, so I scrolled down and here we are.

GTA4 pisses on it!

The basic plot of Resident Evil the game is fucking simple. Elite SWAT team pitch up at mansion in the middle of nowhere. Turns out it is infested by Zombies, one of the team may/ may not know something. Eventually all is revealed and it is some lab for a shadowy corporation developing a very bad virus.

And what did that dick Anderson give us in his wisdom: Fucking Amnesia. In his attempt to reinvent the wheel he managed to ignore the "Survival Horror" of the game in favour of some neutered PG-13 crap. Despicable.

The other thing is that games don't really have stories. They have plots, but they don't develop story and character the way that a book or movie does. I'm not badmouthing games. It's just that the medium itself doesn't really allow space for story and character the way that other mediums do. If it did, you'd probably end up with a boring game. Games are action-based first and foremost.

And didn't Christophe Gans direct Silent Hill- He's certainly a "real" director- which might explain why it is easily the best adaptation so far.

I never heard of this game before. Granted, video games haven't been on my radar since maybe Tekken and Punch-Out in 1992.

Because the K&L VideoGame had a curious "strategy" in that there was a shameless amount of cash spent on a massive advertisement blitz, Hype and just buying good reviews from compliant game journalists. Problem was the actual product i.e. the K&L VideoGame REALLY wasn't worth a fraction of said Hype and was, to put it mildly, a bit on the poor side.

Hence Mad Hype and Huge names being associated with this film already are frankly no big surprise if any of the same dirtbag goons are involved. So I'd watch out for plants and suspiciously "Glowing" reviews if they go the same route as K&L Game because despite the games manifest inadequacies it sold plenty due to the strategy & frenzied hype surrounding it.

So by all means save Bruce from this pile of fetid fecal matter, but be warned it's no guarantee he'll find his form in any other Movie anytime soon.

Oh and why am I wasting MY time ? I simply tire of the same trite stereotypes and kneejerk sweeping generalisations being trotted out for VideoGames and anyone or anything associated with them.

Will this "mutha(GUNSHOT)-er" be rated R or PG-13? Hell...let's go with a new rating...G-10!!! (G-10 means general admission for anyone over 10 years of age, think PG-13 only without any sexual references, the word "Fuck" not mentioned even once, and violence in a comedic manner to de-emphasize the aspect of death and dismemberment) so we can narrow the Tween market and get some serious fucking coin out of this shizzola!!!

And as much as I despise TV show adaptations (besides The Untouchables, have there been any good ones recently?), why not just develop the old Robert Wagner series "It Takes A Thief"? I thought Will Smith's production company had it. It could be a slick, classy, heck maybe even witty, cat burglar-type story.
