It's kinda slow but the ending, holy bejuzus, if only. This could be up there with the 'great unmades,' such as the Alejandro Jodorowsky directed DUNE, with Pink Floyd doing the music, Salvidor Dalí as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen and art direction by H.R. Giger.

But then, I just love dinosaurs, so maybe it's just me.

I really enjoy Bay's movies and those who don't should simply keep their snarky comments to themselves. The self serving, unconstructive criticism of Bay doesn't influence the process or improve the quality of his movies. His box office numbers show that he knows what his audience wants in a movie and he delivers.

Don't think he's awesome either. He certainly has his flaws. He makes mindless fun blockbusters, he's no artist like Spielberg. There are times when I want something crazy to get the blood pumping, have some fun for 2 hours, and there are times when I want to watch a hard hitting, Oscar winning drama or something. However, there will NEVER be a time for shite like the seemingly endless American Pie spin offs. Does Eugene Levy really need the money that bad??

For all of you touting Bay as a good filmmaker because he entertains you, I think you've forgotten that it is more than possible to make an entertaining, exciting action flick without ignoring plot, characters, dialogue, etc (the Matrix - first one anyway, T2). Someone I know had the balls to compare Transformers to Die Hard the other day, and I almost hit her. WTF? LaBeouf was the only character in the entire movie, everyone else was cardboard cutouts that were pretty much entirely interchangeable with anyone else. The military scenes were painful, Optimus Prime becomes this self-righteous prick spouting lame-o cliches about freedom, the robots learned how to talk from... the internet? Oh good, now we can have the robot who speaks like a gansta, all the kids will think it's cool! Bay himself said in an interview to EW that he proved with Bad Boys II that it doesn't matter how insipid the movie is (he probably didn't say insipid, I'm paraphrasing here), his movies would still make money so he didn't care if his movies were any good. That's how much he loves film - he puts out shit just to make money, knowing fully well that he's putting out shit. I don't know how anyone could support that kind of a director.

a far more interesting discussion is how many new stereotypes Bay can squeeze into this film (and what kinds)? I say we get at least one Korean grocery store owner with a bad accent, a gay man with pink hair that blogs, a 20 year old, wealthy wanna-be celebrity that's a dumb as rocks ...

I understand that this is the place to spout off about flicks, and I've done so over on the Indy IV thread ad nauseum. But even if Transformers is shitty (which by all accounts it is--I have yet to see it...) it did so well to garner an almost IMMEDIATE sequel. I don't know about you, but I liked Bad Boys and Bad Boys II. Yeah they're broad comedies, with shallow scripts, but I like Martin Lawrence and think Will Smith is funny as shit. And I can appreciate and empathize with those of you who feel as though Bay's treatment of the Transformers was less than the original concept, and that makes the flick a bad flick.

I was a kid when Transformers was on, along side He-Man and GI Joe. Each and every cartoon from that era was pretty much a 30 minute commercial for whatever toy Hasbro and Mattel were trying to push on our poor parents.

I fell for it, and guess what? Now that I see the stuff I liked as a kid for what it is, I don't have a problem with a little update.

That said, I don't understand why people bitch and then go see it. I do endorse going to see movies, but really I had NO interest in seeing this one from inception, Transformers love is so 1996, when every douche was wearing those big oversized bowling shirts with Goku and the Decepticon symbol on them. Just don't go see it if it offends your sensibility so much.

Or, be pleased that your favorite thing is getting raped, because it's been a WHILE since any Transformer shit got any action. ;)

Yes, let's argue that popularity equals quality. I guess you'll agree then that Britney Spears is among the greatest recording artists of our time, and CSI: Miami is a masterpiece. Turns out, I can form my own opinion independent of tickets sales. Cool that you were entertained; I largely was not. Yes, the action sequences were well-done. i just require more substance out of my movies than thinly-veiled excuses for acting and plot inbetween explosions.

This one will suck too. So many of you have hit the key points. The characters are horrible and since they want to focus on humans over robots they might want good characters. See classic action movies don't rely on product placement jokes. That is why his movies will be forgotten or remembered as jokes. He needs to stick to R rated action films Bad Boys 2 was the only movie I've seen of his that I consider fun. Transformers was more of a pain to watch.

I never said I was looking for a Marx Brother film in Transformers, just a shred of intelligence, humour, or story. I was a huge fan of Transformers, but then I was 7 at the time. My tastes have changed a little since then. Yeah, now I expect more from movies. I didn't even pay to see it, it was on my movie channel, so I thought I'd check it out, and see if it was any fun. Didn't find it to be so. I think we may just have different taste in movies. To me, Die Hard is one of the best action flicks. It's a little funny to me that's you're using those as examples of good action movies, cause they all contain the elements that Transformers was lacking - and were crazy fun. Bay could take a lesson from McTiernan and Woo (at least, old school Woo).

i can totally see that douche using this like a segway in place of feet for the most basic task. tearing from one side of the boardroom to the other instead of pacing...tearing from the smoking section to the coffe cart, all of 3 feet, driving it into the mens bathroom and pissing from 5 feet away while standing on the foorpegs. and then, just like in the contract, it explodes at the end of the day as he dives for his porsche in slow motion, and is replaced by a new one in the morning.

With all the flaws it had (and dont get me wrong, I loved it for what it was - a popcorn blockbuster) you'd think ol' beardy woulda stepped in to fix something.

As I understand it, being an executive produce just means "for a cut to the money I'll put my name on this to help hype it." Apparently, Spielberg was impressed by seeing Shia in the Transformers Dailies that he wanted him for Crystal Skull.

I understand that a lot of people don't like MB's movies, I happen to enjoy his films and don't give two shits about his comments about why he makes movies or anything. But god the people that come on here and talk like they are having 50 fits about this guy, are there not better things in the world to be so hateful towards? How about the terrorists of the world? Murderers, rapists. It's one thing to not like a director and his films, but to come here and spew such hate filled nonsense is dumb. These are movies people, and in the grand scheme of life, they have little meaning. There is so much hate in the world, we sure don't need any unnessesary hate. Maybe it's just me, maybe I don't take my passion for movies to the extent that some of these hate filled people do, maybe I need to be a raving maniac like them. I think I will stick to just talking about movies though.

Movies From Cartoons

We expect so much when we get movies made from cartoons, but when they turn out to be like the cartoons themselves, we get angry because there was no "Substance" to the film. You can't have it both ways. If the film makers make something exactly like the film it has no substance, if they change it to give it substance, it's been raped. That is what I have seen on these talkbacks, no one is ever satisfied with anything.

to old school fans and new viewers of the transformers movie- is the busy, cluttered, messy, painfully detailed robot design.

to me, transformers would have been acceptable to me if the bots, in SOME WAY resembled the vehicles in some modular fashion. most folks couldn't tell one from the other in the action. that's just the straight dope.

LOL...If i was MB i would be living in a much bigger apartment...LOL...How many movies help the world? Did T2 or The Matrix help the world? No, they entertained us, which is what movies are for right? While I agree that Bay's (and most other big budget directors) movies have ridiculous budgets, that is not all on him, he may ask for the money but it's the studio that has the final say, and if they are dumb enough to keep giving him money, he is gonna take it, so would you or I if we were in his position. The bloated budgets of a lot of movies could be better spent, but that's Hollywood for you.

You said you enjoy talking about movies. So do I - I kind of thought that's what we were doing. So is it only talking about movies if we approve of the movies you like? Or if we can't post something nice, should we not post anything at all? I've seen a lot of valid complaints on this site about Transformers and Bay, and others with valid praise for some elements of his flicks (whether or not I agree). Yeah, some of it is just people spouting off without actual content, but mostly, this is what discussion looks like. I guess given your post, you're building houses in Africa. Good for you, I hope we all learn from your example (that may sound sarcastic, but if you truly are out there making a better world while you post, I'm dead serious). What qualifies as a movie geek? So because I like MB's movies that makes me an undemanding movie fan? Who are you to say who is a movie fanatic and who is not? I will say this about MB and his movies-they are shallow bombastic pieces of fluff, with little substance and almost no brains. That being said, because i enjoy them doesn't make me any less of a movie geek than anyone else. There are certain directors I expect a lot from, Spielberg, The Wachowski's, Jim Cameron, and a few others I can't recall at the moment. MB gives me exactly what I want, mindless popcorn entertainment. Some people want more out of their movies and that's fine. I understand why a lot of people don't like MB and his movies and that's fine. But to sit there and pass judgement on me because I happen to like his films? So sorry I don't live up to your view of what a movie fan/geek/fanatic should be. If I have ever come across as thinking people are assholes because they don't agree with my opinion, my bad, I never intend to come across that way, I have always maintained that everyone is entitled to their opinion. I guess it just irritates me when I see hate taken to what i feel is an extreme level, there is enough hate in the world as it is.

If it weren't for the USAF Megatron would've killed Optimus. If it weren't for the ground troops there would've been no air strike and like half the Decepticons would still be alive. WTFFFFF. I guess we can expect more of this weak TF bullshit come next year. Optimus was ALWAYS able to hold his own in the [INSERT MEDIUM HERE]. I guess a reciprocal TF/human relationship is interesting...but NOT faithful and it was rather sad to see two Autobots nearly killed by Starscream. Destroying American cinema seems a bit harsh, if you read any of my previous posts you know how I feel about Mr Bay and his movies. I will say this though, if you want to point the finger of blame at anyone, point it at the studios who keep supplying film makers with the money to make these movies. Bay may make loud bombastic messes for movies, but those geniuses at the studios keep financing him, and all the sub-par film makers out there. As long as these movies keep making money, the studios will keep pouring money into them, it's a sad but true fact. Bay won't change either until he has too.

And at one point in the flim (yes, flim), a raging stereotype of a black teenager circa 1982 walks by and finds the radio. Later on, the radio is revealed to be Soundwave, and the black teenager immediately transforms into the "hysterical negro" stereotype, all pop-eyed and shrieking, that Mikey Bay seems to think all black people are if his flims (yes, flims) are any indication.

Btw, I actually enjoyed Transformers and thought it was a decent summer blockbuster despite how awful and soulless it was. At the very least, the efx and action set-pieces were great.

doesn't make it so, slxboxrman. Comedy? What was funny? When Bumblebee pissed on the guy? That's gold. Good dialogue? I can remember a few times I laughed out loud because the dialogue was so bad (including the horrible "You're a soldier now!" shit). The romance was as contrived and predictable as it possibly could be. Plot? You are easily pleased when it comes to storytelling my friend. If you're going to get up on your soapbox and call people out, you'd better back up your own assertions better. Of course, we probably just have very different taste in movies, which is fine. But you might want to realize that a difference in taste doesn't make everybody else wrong, especially when your own claims are pretty unfounded.

popularity is not the same as quality. Epic Movie made a killing - doesn't stop it from being a steaming pile of shit. Who should have directed it? How about anyone with a true love for the old show? If they couldn't find someone that was going to do it justice, they just shouldn't have made it.

You care because it's a piece of shit, and it didn't have to be. Transformers is a great sci-fi concept -- regardless of how that concept came to be -- that could have been treated with respect, like T2 and other sci-fi actioners. Instead, they threw a total hack on the pic, a pic destined for success due to people who LOVED the concept, loved the property, and saw the amazing SFX in the previews.

Bay had absolutely nothing to do with the success of Transformers, and had everything to do with the shit that didn't work about it. I'm sick of that motherfucker getting any credit for that abortion. Whoever cut the trailers cared more about the concept of Transformers than he did. The trailers suckered me in, just like they did for Pearl Harbor. But I won't be suckered again. He is incapable of making a film for adult viewers.

Without his big budgets and special effects, Bay is just another Uwe Boll. The way he handles the story and characters is on the same level. And flooding your eyes with visual diahrrea is not what makes you a great action director.
PS: Anthony Anderson is a stupid fat fuck.

I thought about that possibility, and I'll give credit where credit be due. That one Bayformer trailer, with the sense of dread building up, the fades to black with that great audio work transitioning us from one dynamic shot to another -- I still get chills thinking about it.

Cut to me watching the movie, cringing as BumbleBINO "lubricates" that cartoon retard from "Sector 7".

Sorry, but I've never properly flamed Bayformers. Here we go... Why couldn't the motherfucker just concentrate on 1 or 2 or even fucking 3 human subplots to avoid the pure fatigue that sets in while trying to pay attention to the Robot story? We have the Pentagon with a phoned in Voight performance; and there's the Army dude who wants to see his kid and momjeans wife; and there's the least likely candidates for hackers in hot blonde and fat fuck; and there's the Witwicky ancestry with the gayest Eggs MacGuff of all time (the glasses); and I'm sure I'm missing 7 other ones. And on top of that he goes and sets the whole tone of the thing to "Lucas."

For Bayformers 2, half expecting an army of CGI monkeys following Prime around cuz they dig his 'do...

How about a plot
by slugbat

That builds up a sense of wonderment and dread at the concept of robots hiding amongst us?

How about something coherent with a single protagonist as a catalyst for the action?

How about being able to enjoy a fucking moment without some cringe-inducing one-liner ("ARE YOU DA TOOF FAIRY?")

How about Sector 7 not being retarded?

How about better character designs?

Movies are still made by adults, right? I mean, I'd expect less if I knew these things were banged out by a platoons of CGI Monkeys or something. I guess I just expect that if you're going to drop 150 Million on a live action movie, you'd infuse it with some kind of adult sensibilities to appeal to the people who pay to see them. If they were going to cop out and not take it seriously because the concept began life in a medium outside of film, then they should have showed that in the trailers. Then if I still paid money, it would be my fault.

And I'll have to talk down to you with four-letter words because that seems to be all you can understand. You are a no-talent, cocksucking fat fuck of a hack. Your screenwriters are no talent hacks. And your director sucks as well. You were able to successfully bait-and-switch the American (and foreign) audiences using the popularity of the Transformers name. But people saw your movie for the shit that it was, albeit too late. But you can't pull the same trick twice. You have all the same talentless hacks behind the scenes. You guys made the campy '80s cartoon look like fucking Shakespeare in comparison. Same shitty actors as last time. (Nobody gives five flying fucks about Jon Voigt or those gay little Sector Seven assholes.) Now we hear you're casting calls for Asians and midgets. Sounds like the same cheap gags as before. NO ONE WANTS TO SEE ANOTHER MOVIE LIKE THE LAST ONE. (And no matter how much you deny it, Tarantino kicked your ass.)

If they made these movies like you 'critics' wanted, with the deep plot and amazing acting and award winning blah, blah, blah. Hmmmmm... I think they tried that with another movie that turned out like a huge turd. The first HULK. The first movie was awesome and I have no doubt the second will be even better. Keep complaining though, I'm sure sooner or later, Hollywood will spend a 100 million dollar budget on a movie that appeals to the 30 guys on here that want the original totally NOT michael bay script of "Every time I look into this thing, my circuits sizzle. I'm tired of this waiting game, Prime. When are we gonna start bustin' Deceptichops?" - IRONHIDE Yeah, that's WAY better dialog than what was in the live action movie. Let's stick to the cartoon movie and all of it's *cough* greatness *cough*

Come on people! Jazz is to Jar Jar, so what is in store in 2? Hell, there are a shit load of people Bay can sterotype: Asians-have a little Honda brandishing a sword and spouting asian products(Sony, Toshiba, sushi, etc). Latinos-a Chevy Impala (cerca '64, you know has to go for that authentic feel of sterotyping) transforming to some rancho music. Or if that spyder roadster IS Arcee, she's a sterotypic "black girl" yelling and screaming for her chicken and waffles. Hell, the bots are endless. Fuck the human cast, just load up on sterotypebots and the movie is golden! DAMN! I love Transformers talkbacks!
