My wife watches it while I'm trying to fall asleep. Usually, the shallowness of the Carrie character enrages me so much that I not only cannot fall asleep, but need to step outside for a cigarette, which only wakes me up even more.

Anyway, there are two redeeming characters on the show and one of them is only redeeming when around the other. Miranda (? I think. The one that looks like Tilda Swinton) and her boyfriend or husband (also don't know for sure) are not only entertaining, but touching. If the show or movie revolved around them, I would watch voluntarily. No way I'm gonna go see the movie though. I will gladly stay at home and play hide-and-seek with the kids while my wife sees it with her sisters.

I heard from some (yeah, women) it's good, it's funny, blah-blah. Never watched original run and tried when it went into syndication and couldn't get beyond a couple of minutes. Capone my friend, you must be metro at least. (I won't hurl idiot homophobic stuff, but, c'mon). I can sit through ultra-kiddie movies with my boy rather than endure crap like this. I thank the gods my wife doesn't care. She likes Romantic Comedies and such, especially UK ones, such as 'Love Actually' which is, ahem, actually, quite good, yes warm and fuzzy, but lightyears beyond this intolerable-for-most-males junk. For those who've slammed Indy/Crystal, would you rather suffer through this?? Ugh. Does this review even belong here? This is the who-cares film of this year. Prediction: strip bar attendance will rise this weekend as wives/girlfriends go see this and husbands/boyfriends enjoy a view of or even a lap dance from much-very much- hotter looking women.

which, if any of the four women would you do? Parker? Not a chance. She's the NYC must-avoid creature. Cattrall? Possibly a hot schtup f-buddy, but psycho potential there. The only cute one is Davis, but not enough to sit though any of the TV shows or the movie. Probably won't put out by third date anyway. And then there's the fourth one and I don't even know her character or actress name unless I google the program. But she's way un-appealing. We'd all rather do Megan Fox, end of story.

I don't care if you think I'm gay. Whether I'm gay or straight or bi whatever would have no bearing on my like or dislike of a movie, and I'm posting on a movie site. But really, "Not to sound like a homophobe", is contradictory. Your use of the word "faggot" is very homophobic, making you a homophobe. Just like when someone spouts "Not to sound like a racist", and follows it up with the "N" word. Grow up. I'm not gonna defend or confirm my sexuallity (if I was in any closet it wouldn't matter because it's not like you know my name), because it doesn't matter.

It's nver old to say you won't endure something that's going to turn you into an asshole in the movie theater if you're forced to go. I'm lucky that my wife's franchise is the Harry Potter films and since she's read all the books (I haven't read one of them), she's harder on the movies than I am, but still likes them all. Yeah, she likes Grey's Anatomy, but that's more watchable than the craptastic four of SATC.

Being from San Francisco, the gays wouldn't let me live hear until I watched every last episode....

No, seriously, you people are wonderful. I watched them at a place called midnight sun, a gay bar that showed all episodes of Simspons, South Park and SITC. It was epic. A whole crowd of gays yelling "No Carrie". People who wandered into the bar talking loud, automaticlly getting the gay bitch "hush hunny!" I saw most of them, and enjoyed it.

So what I see here is a sad end, because the excuse for the 3 whores and their mother in the city concept, is the independent, cosmopolitan, intelligent vibe Carrie (and sometimes her friends) had. To bad this film sucks the chrome off a trailer hitch. I won't see it, not even on the airplane.

I like that some can write a fair review that trashes a film. It means alot to the reputation of this site and the diversity of it's talkbackers.

About Carrie Bradshaw--"She was the only one of the bunch who didn't seem to have some truly deplorable character flaw(s) that made you hate her at times."

Except when she committed adultery with a Married Man while she was dating another guy. And her incredible fiscal irresponsibility and crass obsession with shallow glamour and surface beauty--and shoes.

Yeah, she is a real role model.

My wife has been going through all the old episodes, because she is awaiting the movie. I have had to listen to them. Except for Carrie, all the other characters go through real transformations--due to the fact that they meet positive males who force them to drop there selfish conceits. Carrie gets what she wants by staying basically the same.

She sucks.

My reason for monkeys over ants.
by beastie
May 30th, 2008
12:01:35 PM
The monkey scene accomplished what it wanted. It was corny. It showed that Shia was corny. It was stupid, but it wasn't supposed to be much more.

The ant scene, though, was supposed to be intense and somewhat graphic and cringeworthy. It made me cringe in another way. When the ants were able to pick up a large man and move him into their hole, not only was it just bad, but not believable enough to be gross. There has always been one or two "Eww" deaths in the Indy flicks and this was supposed to be the one for this one. And I know that it's not supposed to be realistic per-se, but it needs to be at least a little bit realistic to elicit the reaction it wanted.

I understand that most people hated the monkey scene, but it did nothing for me one way or the other. It didn't make me hate or love it. I just kinda shrugged.

from Batman-on-Film: SEX AND THE CITY Thursday, May 29, 2008 Author: Christina Han RELEASE DATE: May 30, 2008 STUDIO: New Line DIRECTOR: Michael Patrick King SCREENWRITERS: Michael Patrick King, Candace Bushnell (characters from the book) CAST: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, et al. OFFICIAL SITE: SEXANDTHECITYMOVIE.COM "Many men do not understand the cult of SEX AND THE CITY." - Christina Han From the exterior, it looks like flashy clothes they don’t quite understand worn by older women who seem to live beyond their means. But just like Superman and Batman, these four women serve as the archetypes of what it means to be modern heroines. They overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles, possess Achilles’ heels that prevent them from attaining perfection, and wear costumes that are laughable yet intriguing. Where Batman has his utility belt, Carrie Bradshaw and her cohorts wield Louis Vuitton. SEX AND THE CITY -- THE television show -- spanned six years of broken relationships, frank sex talk, and ultimately, friendship. One of the issues critics had with the ending was the fact that after six years of preaching female empowerment, the series finale included all four ingénues in tidy relationships. The film version offers a more realistic conclusion. And without giving anything away, not all of the ladies end up in a relationship. The gratuitous sex scenes the show was known for are present yet they are there for a purpose. Every superhero has a main mission in his or her life and in this case, the mission is love. Now, before you reach for the nearest air sickness bag, SEX AND THE CITY offers enough genuine wit and spark for even the most masculine of audience members. Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones stands out with her straightforward attitude and sharp tongue. And although the protagonist is supposed to be Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw, Cynthia Nixon shines as the acerbic but vulnerable Miranda Hobbes. Miranda has always been the one to roll with the punches on the show, allowing herself to be seen in the most awkward of positions (sometimes literally) and yet getting through everything with sarcasm and a sense of humor. Bradshaw is noticeably prudish for a sex columnist, as the audience has never truly viewed her in any sexual situation. Even the scenes of her affair with Mr. Big were stylistically sensual, but no skin was shown save for some navel and a collarbone. Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall have always been the ones to portray sex the way it really is…sometimes great, sometimes not, and always what it really looks like when your body isn’t Hollywood perfect but it can do some awesome things. The movie is a visual extravaganza with a wedding, couture, and the Manhattan skyline. There are bigger than life characters -- like Mr. Big -- whose name is revealed to be John James Preston. Mr. Big has grown into a caring and sympathetic man who truly cares about Carrie and no one can deny the chemistry between Parker and Chris Noth. But... The glue of the group has always been Kristin Davis’ Charlotte, and it’s truly rewarding to see her finally happy and settled. Whether she will remain to be so up to the mind of the audience member. Her role has always been the romantic optimist who perseveres despite all negativity. Davis delights with her cheerful blend of idiosyncrasies and empathy in her position as the heart amidst the sex. New York City has rarely looked as beautiful onscreen and Michael Patrick King wrote a heartfelt script with the care that comes from being well acquainted enough to showcase the cast’s talents with complexity and depth. These characters are flawed, but they live in world that is just magical enough to take you away from our reality. And even though they go out and take on their universe every day, they are relatable because you know that they come home to stacks of bills and crying babies. The world may not have many female superheroes besides Wonder Woman and Batgirl, but there are four intimate heroines named Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha who invite us to go along with them on their mission to believe in love. Christina Han is a writer from Southern California. Her work has been published in publications such as Jane Magazine and she is currently a press deputy for the Clinton campaign. She is working on her first book and wants to marry Batman.

But yes, do not be ashamed of liking the show. That means I finally get a review from a man who actually liked the show and isn't just reacting from an outside perspective, but someone who has seen all six seasons and enjoyed them.

One of our all-time favorites is Love Actually, which of course, is more than a romantic comedy. Did you miss my mention of that earlier. Give and take is fine. My wife wanted to see Maid of Honor and went w/ friends. Ditto for me and Hidden Fortress. And I don't jerk off to dolls of Angel, that's my wife. Capone, you just summarized why so many remakes, sequels, and tv/novel/comic-to-silver-scree n adaptations fail. Familiarity alone does not make something worthwhile.

I think we should applaud this movie and hope it makes at least $50 million this weekend. With a running time of 2.5 hours most screens will only be able to show it maybe 4 times a day. Studios love 90 minute films because they can play 5,6, even 7 times a day. But if this can get a big box office, despite running an hour longer than most would expect, than I'm all for its success. Maybe then we'll see less studio insistance on gutting films to keep them under 2 hours.

SITC is not a cool movie to see or a series that interests AIC posters. Sorry has to be said. Sex in the City is a nazi piece of fiction that suggests that women at best are just shallow cunts who go with the man who can fill their wardobes with shoes and clothes. It is a depressing nihlistic dump of shit that shows that presents the idea that women (and men) are shallow empty people who all want to live in warehouse apartments and have amazing multiple orgasms. A pointless show for pointless people. I hope who ever pushed for this movie to be made that they never have a single good sexual experience again and they never have the joy of a good pizza either. Sex in the City is more destructive than anything a pornographer could produce on crystal meth. Phuck Sex in the City. Aint It Cool has lost some of its hipness by this pointless promotion.

I don't know for sure, I just have a strong feeling. Most talkbackers seem to go against the norm, for shock value or to simply be different and achieve some degree of individuality. Sure, there are people who liked TOD all along, but it was not a well regarded film when it debuted, so I get the feeling most of these people didn't always like it. And when you hear things like, "LAST CRUSADE WAS SHIT, TEMPLE OF DOOM IS THE BEST INDY FILM EVAARR" that just confirms it for me.

I have no idea if people were bitching about TOD when it first came out, as a kid, I certainly would have never noticed.

And what does it matter if people have warmed to it over time? Fuck, that happens to me if I revisit a movie sometimes, it'll grow on me. I liked Hellboy when I first saw it, but like it even more now that I've viewed it a bunch more times.

I'm sure that there are those who are singing a completely different tune now, but I very much doubt everyone can be lumped into that category regarding TOD.

Oh please SITC fans, get over yourselves. Guys don't hate the show because of "shoes, shopping, and product placement" None of those attributes are new to this tv series. Guys hate it because the four lead characters are pretty shallow and deplorable, yet they are supposed to come across as sympathetic for some reason and most guys(and a lot more women than are given credit for) scoff at the idea that a character like Samantha or Carrie Bradshaw are supposed to be sympathized with. And the show is not about New York, it is about an upperclass section of Manhatten. If I have to hear one more time this show referred to as "New York" I am going to punch a hole in the wall.

No, for me it was merely okay. It wasn't great by any means, nor did it suck great ox balls. It was just average.

And you are correct on the "seeing this movie with wife/girlfriend". I will not be seeing this with my wife, as she will see it with friends. Nor did I drag her to see Indy, as it's not her thing.

But I do know lots of couples who see every movie together, and take turns picking the movie to see.

There is no right answer to the question.

Temple of Doom was so different in structure from Raiders, that back in the 80's and early 90's people perferred the familiar. Now that time has gone by, a lot of us (not all) have become more partial to Temple of Doom's orginiality. I am no knocking Last Crusade (I loved it). I just prefer TOD because it happens to have more iconic scenes, for me. For my money, the scene on the bridge is up there with any scene in Raiders. I love the 1st three Indys and hope the part IV will eventually wiggle it's way into my nostalgic subconcsience.

I was a sophmore in college when this show peaked in popularity, and every fucking sorority girl on Earth thought it was "just like" their lives. And they would sit you there and tell you how they're "just like" Carrie and which friend is like which character. So the reason I hate this show is because it seemingly induced delusions on anything with a vagina that watched it. Imagine if you went to see Iron Man, then though, legitimately believed, that you could build a suit of powered armor and fight evil with it. Sex and the City is basically as unrealistic as Iron Man (at least for 99.999% of the populace), and yet many, many women believe that they have the chance to live that life...despite having an income of 40k a year, having maybe one piece of actual designer clothing in their closet, and living nowhere near New York City.

I was telling people to get over the site's coverage of the movie. AICN is about pop culture, and SATC is a vital part of pop culture whether or not you want to admit it. It's a phenomenon, highly rated and watched, and yes, women traffic this site, too.

Are you not a fan of any form of entertainment about women? Does it all have to be "guy shit"? No. AICN has reports from film festival entries from people like Nicole Holofcener and Lisa Cholodenko and many female filmmakers who represent a certain side of the art and commerce, and I think denying readers of this site that facet of the industry is against its own assumed mission statement.

You are perfectly allowed to not like the show or the movie, but don't rail against the site for publishing the story or me for reading it.

My wife, who has never even seen a single episode, has expressed a desire to see the film (I guess its the only real chick film this summer), but I staunchly opposed seeing this thing. I mean, its not like I forced her to watch Star Wars, Indiana Jones, or some of my other guy flicks, so I feel no guilt or shame in telling her no way. I did, however, go see Made of Honor with her, so I'm not exactly a total douche bag.

I think, however, that I'm starting to rub off on her a little bit more. This summer, for the first time ever, she has expressed a desire to see a whole slew of guy-type films: The Happening, Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express, and, believe it or not, The Dark Knight. Yeah, I know--my first reaction when she said that was to ask who the hell she was and what had she done with my wife?

WHY DO WE HAVE TO DRAG ANYONE TO A MOVIE

Why in the world does a man or woman have to take anyone to a movie who might not enjoy the experience are the two of you so devoid of any other like minded friends that you are only two people in the world you can spend time with. I tell you right now If your Girlfriend starts text messaging in the middle of the movie Im sitting in shes getting cursed the Fuck out. Look if you dont want to see it dont go simple as that if there something you want to see that she doesn't go with other friends.

While there are a few things I absolutely refuse to see, such as sex in the city and, G-d help me, Baby's Day Out, there are quite a few types of shows I watch with my wife despite my having a more tepid response than she. I do this because I derive enjoyment from my loved one's enjoyment.

That's right, Phategod--I actually enjoy my wife being happy even if I'm not the center of the fucking universe for 2 hours. You know what is even crazier? She actually feels the same way! Even though we both have friends who we could hang with, and we do hang with them sepparately, we both tend to have more fun hanging together like a bunch love-sick teenagers.

Oh sure, its sappy, and it is most deffinitely hokey, but we really do have the best times together. Now, maybe thats because I tend to be an outgoing, life-of-the-party person and a romantic and I find her to be infinitely interesting and entertaining (even after 15 years of marriage and courtship), but for whatever reason, we both really, really enjoy each other's company, and that usually trumps whatever the hell we're watching.

Oh my Holy G-d! I can't believe you just did that to me! Now I'm going to be having that song in my head all night, too!

That movie really was crap, wasn't it? How about that setting sun, huh? Personally, I don't think that movie would have been that infamous if Wayne had not tried so hard to present that movie as a serious commentary on our fighting forces. If he had just made it and walked away, the movie would have been properly booed and promptly forgotten. Instead, Wayne kept pushing it and shining his brass over the thing like it was his next Searchers or Alamo. Poor, poor Wayne.

My favorite part? When a bunch of fat civies actually try chase a goddamned green beret into the fucking forest because "he's just one man." I tell you, if the experience of watching your own private role-playing fantasy on screen doesnt get you excited, you need to turn in your testacles.

I don't care what really happened--in my mind, its always The Cowboys. I don't care if your a Wayne fan or not, you can't argue at how iconic that final confrontation between Bruce Dern and Wayne played out. I honestly do think that Wayne's death scene was filmed as though we were watching a confrontation between Wayne's persona, his idealism and brand of Americana, and Post-Modernism in all its cynical nastiness. Oh sure, Dern killed Wayne, but only by shooting him in the back and only after Wayne beat him to a pulp.

Serious Moonlight, which was filmed in, no kidding around, a month: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt11 33993/ and When in Rome, which Disney hopes will be next year's Enchanted in terms of boxoffice and critical acclaim for its leading lady.

BTW, Kristen submitted the Heroes episode 'Four Months Ago' as her tape for a Best Drama Supporting Actress nomination. She was the only good thing about season 2 of Heroes, so hopefully (but highly unlikely) she'll at least make the semifinal 10 cut.

Anybody remember a 2003 WB midseason series called The O'Keefes? She had a 2-episode stint in that one.

First, on topic, I could care less about SatC one way or the other.

As for that other movie every one is talking about in this thread, I cannot believe how much people complain about the CGI, the water falls, or the nuked fridge but give the fantasticaly bad writing a pass (granted some of the former complaints are part of the horrible, horrible script). I can only assume that George and Steven new exactly what they were doing (cashing in on nostalgia and the beloved originals) when they agreed to use this script. There was so much, that if you stop and think about it, makes no sense, and is there as a weak plot device...especially the Skull's apparent ability to be selectivly magnetic! I mean they used it for one reason only, and that was so Indy could find the body/skull in the wharehouse/graveyard, for the rest of the movie it is completely ignored! Take for example how they are standing right next to the Skull when they make Indy look into the eyes, nobodies, medals, or guns, or bullets or anything is being attracted to the Skull. And what about the entire jungle chase, why isn't the skull simply clanging against one of the vehicles and sticking there? Now at first glance that might seem like a nit pick, but it really isn't, you can't establish that an artifact is soooo magnetic that it pulls even non conducting metals like gold, but then drop when it doesn't fit the scene...its a contrivance and it sucks.

"And there are no films that glamorize player type characters nailing all the women they can......riiiiiiiiight." Actually, if the character of Carrie Bradshaw - with all her vanity, superficiality, immaturity, self-absorption, utter lack of interest in the world outside her shallow relationships, obsessive consumerism, etc. - were rewritten as a man, all of these characteristics would be depicted as things the man should grow out of. A movie about that character would focus on how he solved his problems and grew out of his flaws. Think of a movie like KNOCKED UP, which I just re-watched on HBO the other day: the Seth Rogen character has many of the same character flaws as Carrie Bradshaw, but he is expected to grow out of them and get a fucking life. SATC is commonly viewed as somehow being empowering to women, but I've always thought that it infantilized them and demeaned them - precisely because Carrie Bradshaw basically lives an immature junior high school life FOR A LIVING, and that is seen as OK for her because she's "just a girl", where it would be completely unacceptable for a man.

Didn't you say you only watched the first 2 seasons? The show did get better. I agree that Carrie is a terrible role model, though. Her character may not have totally gone clean on her shoe addiction, but I don't think it's necessarily something she promoted, just a big flaw for women to see. When she couldn't come up with a downpayment for her apartment and had to borrow money from Charlotte realizing all her earnings were in her closet in the form of Manolo Blahniks, I think that was a wakeup call moment.

was kept as background because I think once the Beards got her on set, they figured out she can't actually act. Yeah, she was spunky n' sexy in Raiders, but that was a long time ago, and she didn't get much work after that. At best I would call her performance in Indy 4 "rusty." I was pretty disappointed. Also, good point about the selective magnetism of the crystal skull, but then, Spielberg has always had a short, selective memory with plot points. (Just look at all the holes, plot and otherwise, in Jurassic Park.) The movie itself was fun and entertaining but I did have to turn my brain off and I overlook a lot of moments that would probably piss me off in any other film (the monkey/Tarzan scene, especially). The nuked fridge is so fucking bizarre, so totally unexpected and completely unbelievable, that I just have to give it up to the Beards and say that the movie would have been less without it. Nobody could logically survive a ride like that without turning to jelly, but I'd like to see somebody survive Indy's great truck/bullwhip escape in Raiders. It's the spirit, man. Oh, and fuck SATC.

I'm gay. I'll let the homophobes in the talkback a minute to let that sink in. I have never seen an episode of Sex and the City in my entire gay life. The only reason I went to watch it was because two of my girl friends were so psyched to see it that I felt it was only fair that I sit through it since I'll be making them sit through the two and a half hours of "The Dark Knight." The movie was alright. Not having ever seen the show before I found myself surprisingly interested in the characters' trivial problems (except for that brief moment where I fell asleep). The only problem I had with it was it's run time. Halfway through the movie I found myself thinking that all of the problems could have been resolved within 90 minutes. I mean honestly (and I feel a little weird labeling the next section a spoiler alert, but consider yourself warned), "Mr. Big" got cold feet in the car and called off the wedding. A minute later he realized what an idiotic move that was and quickly turned around to fix his mistake. So what happens? Naturally, it takes half a year for Carrie to understand what happened and fall back in love. I don't know who said it but it rings true: this was just a few ". . . to be continued" episodes strung together. I know it sounds like I totally hated the film but as I said I enjoyed it for the most part. My only other major problem was the gasping at the site of the Louis Vuiton label and the femmy in front of me giving a bad name to the rest of us gay guys out there. So I sat through my "take one for the team" movie for the summer; now BRING ON THE DARK KNIGHT!!

You got bigger problems than that, my friend. The main complaints I hear, from guys, mind you, is that the show and the movie will make women feel they have to be like these chicks, ergo, not the sweet, innocent flowers we want on the street, while still being straight up sexual deviants in the bedroom. If your chick is modeling herself after fictional women....might be time to take a step back and see what kind of broad you're with.

My girlfriend was all "I'm waiting for you to come back into town before I go see the movie!" And I'm all "No, really, please, you don't have to wait for me." And she's all "No, it's ok. I just really want to see it with you!" And I'm all "That's flattering. I mean, I'm flattered. But I must decline. It's against my religion. " And she's all "First of all, you're not religious. And secondly, I'll repay you in kind if you know what I mean..." And I kind of think about it for a second, and then I'm all "I don't think I want to see the Dark Knight with you." And she's all "That's not what I meant." And then I'm like "Oh, you mean sex. Well no. I'm gonna get that anyway" And she gets real pissed and goes "Well then if you DON'T GO you DON'T GET ANY".

So now I'm going to the movie.

This is a film geek site for movies like Indiana Jones and Star Wars and shit like that, we hype up movies that the average movie goer would just see a trailer on TV and go "yeah, I'll probably see that".

NO one here was anticipating this with the other summer movies, so why is the space of this site wasted on it?? Random horseface jokes I guess.

You're an ASSHOLE! Now feel free to post your home address......

You're not going to of course so here is some advice: If you don't want to be called an asshole, then......don't act like one by posting a threat on an anonymous forum. It's an especially ridiculous threat considering we're at movie geek mecca.

As far as SEX AND THE CITY goes I am surprised that AICN is giving this film so much coverage. I did go see it with my girlfriend and three of her friends, being around some tits and ass is always good. But the film is good. It's really good. I am speaking purely as a filmgeek, or more accurately a screenplaygeek. The film is structured beautifully. It balances the four characters well. Various parts are set-up perfectly and pay-off perfectly. Is it about women, fashion, relationships, fashion, and fashion? Yes, but subject matter aside, at least it was written well. Which as we all know now, KOTCS isn't. The problem with the new Indiana Jones is that three guys in their sixties got together and had a great time making a fourth outing in their adventure series. They put Shia LeBeouf in it to guarantee the youth audience, promote the HELL out of it, put it on 4000+ screens, and watch the money roll in. Making a great movie was not really their intent.

I'll watch it if you pay me...

bore me and piss me off because the ultimate goal of any chick flick is always so trivial: "Are they going to get together?" The question is always YES, otherwise there wouldn't be any fucking movie. They all follow predictable patterns and they all end pretty much the same, with characters who were pretty much unlikeable to begin with ending up "happily in love." (Except for Titanic, where one of them ended up happily dead.) It's a boring, stale formula, without the slightest whiff of surprise or suspense, and yet people watch these things as if they've never seen another movie like it. And that's fine, it's just that, with only a very few exceptions, these things bore me. I'd rather watch almost anthing else. Or read.

The ignorance on here is amazing. "This film should be banned" and other moronic comments like that. Movies are not just made to appeal to us film geeks, but to all audiences. So they made a movie for women, WHO FUCKING CARES!!!! Don't go see it then. God so many of you a-holes act like films like this shouldn't be made because YOU don't care about them. But you know what? I'm willing to bet alot of the assholes saying this stupid shit will be the ones who go see it with their wives or girlfriends and probably love it, and never tell anyone to avoid looking like a complete asshole. I really don't care to see this, I watched the show once in a while and found it to be amusing but I wouldn't say I was a fan. But whatever, my g/f wants to see it, and I will go with her, otherwise I won't be going. But at the same time, I won't sit here and say sexist, idiotic comments about the movie just cause it isn't my thing. Why don't these idiotic fanboys just shut the fuck up. I don't know about anyone else, but I am so tired of listening to the rantings of mindless assholes who just want attention. Sadly they will always be here though.

OK let me explain the cultural connection between Ain't it cool and SATfingC. It's Nikes.

SATC is about shoes and fashion (among other things most geeks don't give a flying fuck about). We can all agree that these elements are some of the main ones present. So, fashion, as presented in SATC is what they "Geek out" on. The "Real Geeks" argument goes that this is incomparable to collecting comics, Blu-Rays or collectors models of princess Amedala masturbating. It's not really the same. I'll tell you what is the same.

There are manga nerds all over this site, and I will bet you dimes for dollars there are some serious Nike whores in that crowd. I bet some of you have spent a pretty dime on a hoody that zips up to look like spidey. So fashion does play a role in some geeks life. So if nerds like shoes and fashion, does that mean that some "Real Geeks" could relate to Carrie?

Gotham, boxofficemojo says differently.

That was a once-a-generation movie where it didn't the frak matter what age group it was targeted to, Titanic was seen by just about everybody, from teens to their 70's. No other film will be #1 at the boxoffice for 14 straight weeks. No other film again, IMO, will actually increase its second weekend take over its opening.

I mean, Sundays are always estimates at this time, but right now, it's SATC at $55.7m and Indy at $46m for the weekend.

I'm not trying to cause trouble. I'm just pointing it out that SATC made more money over the weekend than Indy. It could all change when the real numbers are counted tomorrow, but that's still a $10m gap that probably won't change too much.

Gotham, we're talking about different things.

I have said again and again I am simply talking this weekend. I don't think anybody thought that SATC would ever come close to Indy overall. Nobody here, at least. Who are you fighting?

We'll see how SATC does next weekend as well, considering it can't make more than $55.7m because it came out TWO DAYS AGO. So it's not its complete total. That's when a film goes out of theatres. Understand?

SATC cost $65m before advertising.

Catrall should have gotten less, but she was the holdout that made it so the movie was postponed four years. There is also a large ensemble cast, a fuckload of location shooting (with more than they did on the show, including the boring trip to Mexico), etc. etc. etc.

Also, 2.5 hours would mean five episodes of the show, not three.

Are the guys who say "dude your straight, but are a SATC fan?!!?!?!.. more like your closeted!" I mean really, people who say that are people who never watched the show (or say they were "forced to" by their girlfriends but didnt like it, which is a lie because those guys have no girlfriends period) I know many straight guys into the show, hell Howard Stern is really into it, and he may be the most manly man, but he is far from gay and his whole living is based on the male fanbase (of course he has alot of female fans, but you know what I'm saying). A great show is a great show period. And SATC was better then 90% of the TV shows the past decade. To be fair most of the shows on premium cable have been among the best this past decade (Deadwood, Weeds, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Dexter, Sopranos, Entourage, Dead Like Me, many many more, I mean damn thats pretty awesome for 2 networks) SATC has won awards, has been critically praised and is a success because of how great a show it is. Not just for females or gay men, but for open minded straight guys who don't try to act all macho by saying DUDE THAT SUCKS while they have their pants around their legs playing WoW like the geeks they are. And as has been pointed out many times before, for a show that only "gay men and woman" watch... why do posts regarding it continue to get the largest amount of talkbacks. Mostly by guys who say they hate it. I mean its so pathetic, its like you are all sad little geeks that are threatened by the fact that you know what, sometimes woman act just like men do... actually MOST woman act just like men do (woman aren't all Charlotte). So you are the guys who need to come out of the closet. Go outside and enjoy the world, see that yes many woman are like these four, many are nothing like them as well, woman are people do. As any straight man will tell you.

This film is not just for girly girls....I am far from. I hate chic flicks. I watch my horror, my sci-fi and action. But I LOVE this show and series. WHY??? Because this is how women talk about guys. We discuss how bad you are in bed, how your dick is too small, too big and how it curves weird. How you couldn't find the clit even with a map, how much you are "babies" that only momma can make you happy. Yes...we go on a LOT of bad dates until we can find the guy who is just right. From most of the talk back here I am guessing a lot of this stuff is said about most of you guys. The guys saying the give and take, they are correct. I have to sit through my man's UFC crap, he watches the show with me. And actually, he loves it and thinks it's hilarious! Of course he is secure with himself and this is the only "girly" thing he has to watch. From some of the talkback I have read I would say the average age here is about 15. You guys just crack me up with how much you know nothing of women and I must agree with the guys saying how you probably never get any.

Reminds me of the line from "100 Girls" - a guy is listening to a group of women discussing their sexual exploits and turns to his friend saying "wow, girls are way grosser than guys".

Trying to reason with most on here is futile. You are arguing with Fanboys (I use that term in the most derogatory of ways). This is a group who hates anything they don't love, and they can not love anthing that is similar to something else they love. Fans of Family Guy must hate South Park, fans of Star Wars must hate Lord of the Rings, fans of BSG must hate Firefly, etc. It makes me wonder: If irrational hatred stems from fear, for those above with such vitriol for SATC, what is it you are afraid of?

I am not HAL. I like South Park and Family guy, Star Wars and LOTR, Firefly and... well I am waiting to for BSG on DVD I'll get around to it soon. My problem with SATC is that its just a terrible show and promotes being a terrible person. But at the same time its almost like any fanboy movie for girls. They like to project themselves and live vicariously through these women. And I guess if thats the way women REALLY are then is it any wonder why men still rule the world. Case and point Sex and the City the movie was written and directed by a man.

yet Gone With the Wind is considered one of the greatest movies ever made. Same for Charles Foster Kane in Citizen Kane. I'm in no way saying SATC compares to either film, I'm just saying there has to be more to it than the characters being terrible people.

Really, the thing I don't get is the powerful hatred some have for this project. It's just a movie. It's not your thing, don't go see it. But reading some of the comments above you would think the characters and the show have personally injured people here; that the show was a personal attack against them. It was just a tv show that's now a movie. You don't have to watch.

And I seem to recall something about SATC reruns taking Mr Show's spot on the schedule, forcing it into an undesirable time which contributed to its cancellation. That action is worthy of a grudge!

Jarv, I guess the difference for me is I don't know anyone who sees these women as role models. However, I can understand the disgust one might have with those that do. I'm sure it's like fans of Entourage who copy the behaviour of those characters. When I see some pudgy dude walking down the street with a 3-day beard, oversize jersey, and askew baseball cap all I feel is sympathy for this pathetic loser. I mean, really, the highest you can aspire to is being like Turtle? So sad.

I guess the difference for me with regards to SATC is the women I know who enjoy it don't emulate the characters. They may see a familiar situation in some episode but don't sit around figuring who is which character. Perhaps the difference is they have IQs in the triple digits and can enjoy something without having to be defined by it.

But look at some of the comments on here, about how this movie should have never been made, it should be banned, it doesn't belong in the summer movie season. Those aren't opinions. Obviously, a SATC movie is not going to appeal to most of the members of this site, I even agree that it shouldn't be covered on this site. Shouldn't movies be made for everyone, not just a particular audience? That is what upsets me, to say SATC has no place in the summer season or to say it never should have been made? Grow up, opinions are one thing but thinking movies should be made just to appeal to a select group? Please.
