Great reviews, as always.

Little Borther in particular sounds fantastic! Although I grew up reading my Dad's and brothers Heinlein and Van Vogt respectively, so those are intriguing as well.

I've never understood that statistic. If the number of connections in the human brain exceeds the number of particles in the universe, what are the connections made of?

It is very good. And it's about something. I'm not sure about the love interest yet, but maybe she'll grow on me.

I'm not sure I agree with SF/F being in a lull, though. The last decade has introduced us to China Mieville's Bas Lag, after all, and I'm not sure I'd trade those books for anything.

I always find it hard to trust book reviews that get lazy about grammar and spelling. Your opinions are sound, and I'm glad to see a review of LITTLE BROTHER, but if you consistently misspell things like "Disneyland" and "Xbox", it puts the cynic in me on guard.

we're talking about. A guy who probably spent more time correcting the spelling of other people's posts than actually writing his own. My theory is, Mori hijacked his review [from the very first sentence, it seems] just to make sure he doesn't get too big for his breeches. That bastard!

let me do exactly that.

This may be due to the interconnectivity of the connections themselves. For example, if you have ten connectors, they may each be connected to the others simultaneously, so ten connectors = 10! (ten factorial) or 3,628,800 connections.

Or something like that. I'm not a doctor, though I have played one on TV.

Comparing it to the number of particles in the universe is meaningless. It's like how there might be 10,000 ways to drive to your friend's house, even though there's only 100 streets in the city... then bragging that 10,000 is more streets than exist in New York. True, but in New York there might be a hundred million ways to drive between two houses.

I REALLY want to watch those Heinlein shows with all the science and half-naked chicks. The two go well together.

Thanks for doing these book reviews!

Thanks for the science fiction book review, Mori. It's always fun hearing about Doctorow or other "young" authors rolling out their badass tales. A novel I read recently that knocked my socks off was "Emissaries from the Dead" by Adam-Troy Castro, another in Doctorow's generation. It's not an undead, zombie-infested, or ghost haunting story in any way -- it's a rip-roaring, hard science, make you think crazy new thoughts about AIs and aliens, futuristic murder mystery. I sent Castro a complimentary email and he wrote back to me, in the style of the book! It was very cool.

One thing: if possible, Mori, you might want to shorten your posted book reviews. I enjoy reading them, but even I was a bit low-lidded by the end of this one.

Nevertheless, thanks!
