I read that The Fall is getting a wider release on May 30th? Anyone have info on where else this movie will be coming to? I live in Chicago and want to see this.

I had no idea Tarsem went to such lengths during filming. Telling everyone in the crew Lee Pace was really a criple is just insane.

I am DYING to see this film. and it seems that the backstory not only of how the film was made, but why it was made, might be close to as interesting.

people can knock Tarsem all they want, but for christ sake, at least the guy is an original. you don't see anyone else even trying to evoke Dali-esque scenes on film, let alone succeeding. and marrying it with a great story and something made in a manner as truly unique as this was, you are at least guaranteed an interesting experience.

kudos Capone, for some great questions, and for letting him just go on for a while!

Tarsem and the Rebirth of Cinema

This man, this godsend does what I only hope to do as an artis. Tarsem utilizes the earth and her memories to tell a story. If art was liquid, then he is an addict. There is something so intangibly beautiful about his work.

Tarsem seems to work very stream of consciousness, which I completely relate to as an artist.

I experience art in a way that it moves and breathes right through me and I'm left out of breath, unable to explain what I've seen. Tarsem's work is the soul of the divine, living, breathing, dying in a moment.

I was able to meet and speak to Jean Pierre Jeunet and that was a dream come true for me.

I would carry Tarsem's Bandhani for a year, just to experience his vision.

For so great a treasure words will never do.
Yeah, nice

Enlightening interview, makes me rethink my opinions of Tarsem and his approach to his work.

Great interview, man! I actually saw the film last night at Arclight since I figured this would be its last week showing with SATC about to take over a couple screens there. I really dug it, and not just visually either. I thought the story was very heartfelt and both Lee and Catinca were excellent. Looking forward to Part II.

Good interview. I always thought that The Cell was given a rough time unnecessarily by the Angelika (art theater in NYC populated by "artiste" types) crowd. I am looking forward to this film.

he thinks capone is Mori, and says "you were on board when everyone else said I was full of it" and yet perhaps the most volatile thing every written about Tarsem was by Mori back when The Cell was released. I don't mention that to talk poorly about Mori at all, but I think it's proof that the stuff he writes, for better or worse, is the way he actually feels and it's the merits of the individual work that matter to him. To have that kind of a turnaround on a director makes me think the real change is in the quality of the work, and it's why The Fall is the most anticipated movie of the summer for me. At least it is now that I got Indy and Son of Rambow out of the way. If you get the chance to see SOR, go for it. It's a terrific movie.

He seems like a cool guy, a bit over the top, but that only helps when you are doing these kinds of movies. He might be the next Gilliam, and I completely love Gilliam(just bought Munchausen on Bluray) but I think this flick, which looks like Munchausen, might surpass that one because it looks like Tarsem might be going for some depth that typically isnt there in most Gilliam movies-Time Bandits and Brazil being the two main examples. And Twelve Monkeys. I hope this guy has a long career making stuff like this, and stays away from empty concept stuff like The Cell where any audacity or creativity was wasted and somehow made the movie all the more repellent for it being there. Kudos on getting this one made Tarsem. I hear an awful lot of work went into making it happen. Now I just need to see the darn thing. Here's hoping it hits Baltimore this weekend.

two main exceptions. Brazil and Time Bandits are the exceptions to Gilliams work that have an added layer of depth to the visual brilliance and absurdist fantasies. I'm cheering for Parnassus. After Grimm and Tideland(which was horrid) I'm really hoping he hasn't lost the spark of brilliance.

Tarsem's version on a character that does not speak much and is surrounded by great visuals. this director could go beyond the surface layers of Robert E. Howard's character and into the author's view of barbarism as the natural state of mankind.

Motherfuckers act like you've never seen a Tim Burton movie. Like Burton hasn't fucked up a script before. I for one, enjoyed the experience of The Cell, but found the psychology annoying. The best character is Vaughn's FBI agent.

I enjoy reading in-depth discussions with filmmakers. Their energy and passion jumps through the page and connects with our enthusiasm as viewers.

A nice, fresh change from the trash interviews we get from junkets where the reporters get five minutes of shallow rapidfire questions.

Keep up the brilliant work Capone. Love it.

Thats right, I'm trolling. I didn't even read your post, just the title, but if you can't get something out of this interview because it's not a picture of t3h new tranzformerz zomgz! then you must be very, very stupid. Also, the Cell was a great movie. IDK why people say it has no plot. It just does not explian itself clearly. The viewer has to (gasp) think about what is happening and what the crazy visuals symbolize.
