I have many small orgasms whenever Kevin Conroy speaks. I love how when he says that opening line, it shifts from Bruce into the Batman growl halfway through when he says "no one else's". Still can't believe the DCAU is all but gone.

Despite how they market this, I doubt its linked toTDK
by blindambition238

12:54:12 AM
While they've been saying that it ties into TDK, the stories seem self-contained enough to not have any actual bearings on the film. Also Nolan hasn't even mentioned any kind of involvement in this thing or tried to link it to TDK itself. I think this is kind of a good thing since it would give the directors/writers more leeway to craft their own Batmans/men. Especially looking forward to Azarello's toon.
Yeah, not sure how THAT fits into Nolan's universe

But I'm all for good Batman animated stories, since aside from the movies, the only exposure I've ever had to the character was the animated series from the 90's, which was pretty great. And is that the same voice? He sounds...different to me.

when you have music that, well, BIG...along with animation, to me it just does not fit. it's like when a film student makes a dinky, crappy short film, but uses Wagner or some bits from the Godfather theme, it just doesn't match up.

not trying to be a dick, it always just seems to be a bit much. but hey, if this is the project that changes my mind, I'll happily eat a crow sandwich.

Holy frosty sake soaked ballerinas with buzzsaw tutus drifting down like helicopter maple seeds from the top of a great steep pile of eviscerated wombat reincarnations of Schumacher and Goldsman's future selves (who must die sixty-nine thousand quite unpleasant times for their sins before they can go to heaven) brought back through a rift in space-time caused by the baddassness of that trailer BATMAN!!! You can tell because the trailer for these animated shorts features the more fanastical/supernatural villains, and Nolan sticks to a "realistic" take on Batman in his two live-action movies.

Whenever someone cites down Blade as a screen "credit", they lose all credibility. Goyer is a perfect vacuum of suckitude. Souless characters, poor structure, shitty dialogue. Batman Begins was passable in SPITE of Goyer (and due to Nolan and Bale).

by blindambition238
May 22nd, 2008

Considering that the WB brand is synonymous with animation as much as film, why don't they try releasing some stuff theatrically? I mean the last DC animated film to get screened at theaters was Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, which many Bat fans would argue as the greatest Batman film bar none. While it didn't make a lot of bank in cinemas, that could many be attributed to the fact that the theatrical release was a last minute idea and it had almost zilch marketing- I'm sure it made mone back from the dvd/video sales since. But yea, if they marketed this properly, I could see this and other well made (read: Timm and co.) DC films being cinema draws if they tried.
Damn..this really looks awesome.

It's the same voice from the Animated Series. However, Conroy changed the way he did it when the show moved to the WB channel and changed art style. He further refined this version in the various Justice League cartoons on Cartoon Network. I really hate the altered version. The Fox BTAS and NABR version was great. There was a distinct difference between Wayne and Bats, and on the WB TNBA and JL/JLU/Batman Beyond he just didn't sound distinct nor was the acting as good. He phoned it in (but it was still good, just not as good).

I have to wonder why he looks like hes actually flying, like Hawkman much of the time. Granted, he does a mean drop from the top of the stairs with his cape flowing around him move, and upcoming: a drop onto a car thats crushed attack and all, but he may want to rethink how important it is to manipulate himself up to the highest 4x4 perch he can find in every rainstorm. :) And I must admit, that sure looks a lot like DEATHLOCK he's fighting toward the end. Now THAT would be cool!

I just can't get it up for Nolan's new borefest. The first film had great character development, but everything else was borrowed from Burton's Batman. I've been a huge Batman fan since childhood but I haven't even watched Batman Begins again since it first came out. It's just like the last Superman film... totally unnecessary if you aren't really doing something different. This on the other hand looks very fun. It makes me excited to see Batman on the screen again.

All dubs are terrible. I don't know why, but even otherwise good American VAs sound like shit when they dub anime. I used to think it was because the anime characters had more Japanese mannerisms to their appearance and it just wasn't matching up with the voices or something... but I mean, listening to Conroy in this trailer, when you can't even see the character's face as he's talking... he still sounds awful, there's no conviction or feeling in that line. It's probably the fault of whoever's directing them, really.

Yes, it's set in the same continuity; however it's anime and is going to have a different take on it. There are no monsters in this, Mosquito March. Those are Batman villains Scarecrow, Deadshot, Killer Croc (the monster...he's really a man that looks like that), and Man-Bat (the other monster...again a human who mutates back and forth between human and bat).

Your majesty, if I may ask you a question... If adults watching superhero cartoons is so detestable, what do you think about adults who comment on message boards of superhero cartoons to talk about how stupid fans of said cartoon are? Pointless hating of something that really shouldn't affect you. On another note, I don't think this movie is going to be a "bridge" in the sense that you need to see it to understand TDK at all. In fact, I don't think it will even be referenced, I think that they are just using the "bridge" concept so that we can put it in a chronology of events in this universe. I really don't think it will have any bearing at all on the film. I'm totally pumped for this though, there hasn't been a really good Animated Batman since TAS in the 90s (all right Beyond wasn't bad at times, but outside of that)...

I've been a Batman fan for 30 years, I know who the characters are, and Manbat and Croc are "monstrous" adversaries who have absolutely no place in the practical world that Nolan set up in BATMAN BEGINS. Why don't you try explaining the inclusion of Manbat in a series that refused to delve into Ra's Al Ghul's immortality? A series where Joker's face is a result of knife-wounds and paint? A series where Superman would be a big no-no?

These works on the same character are interpretations of different directors. This is why the narrative is in continuity with events but the presentation, interpretations and visual representations of every character are meant to be unique to each story teller. In Nolan's vision he sans anything too supernatural in order to keep the feasibility as real as possible. His choice not to present the immortality aspect of Ra's Al Ghul does not mean if another director were to continue the series, the character would not have this element of his persona brought to light. This is an exercise in art and art is all about expression not conformity.

How can they say "this connects BEGINS to DARK KNIGHT" if they do shit Nolan refuses to do? And, don't give me that "artistic interpretation" shit. If it doesn't fit Nolan's interpretation, it cannot be viewed as connective tissue between Nolan's two films. And, you yourself admitted that Nolan has eschewed supernatural elements from his cinematic vision. That simple fact disqualifies characters like Manbat and Croc, who cannot be explained with the system of logic set forth by Nolan's films. If a character like Manbat is now considered to be part of the "Nolanverse", then the "Nolanverse" is jumping the goddamn shark. What we really have here is a plain old animated Batman anthology that ties into the *marketing* for DARK KNIGHT, but not the film itself. They just want to sell some fucking Manbat toys with their DARK KNIGHT toy line.

I miss the yellow bat crest

I think the yellow oval would be out of place on Nolan's Batman, but I miss it. I love the balance of the new bat logo and recently bought a fold out knife on ebay based on it, which I drool over, but not in a sociopathic way... just a nerdy idiot way. I want a bat tattoo one day but I don't know if I could ever decided on a particular icon to live with.

I just saw Iron Man and got a tad pissed off when his helmet got crushed. I should have known it was coming. Sheesh... movie comic book heroes rarely get to keep their mask on at the climax. Thanks to this site I stayed until after the credits - what a geekgasm! Batman better not rip his mask off on the big Joker Boss battle.

Sorry, I didn't know there was a universal consensus that Nolan was God's gift to Batman. Some people prefer a different interpretation of the character. These animations will give us quite a few.

It was just rolled out poorly. It was appearing along with some creator commentary and every scene in the trailer plays in this making of type of video that was on XBox Live and some other places.

I am not sure how everyone else feels about this, but the Animatrix was a prelude to some pretty disappointing movie experiences. It was not bad, just an indication that the filmmakers and production companies involved were a little distracted. Don't get me wrong, I love more Batman shit. I love Nolan's interpretation, but as a Batfan, we have been subject to numerous interpretations over the years and many of them have been great.

and TDK! I've always wanted to see the Batman animated in an anime-style way with a serious story. I'm glad, they got Kevin Conroy to do the voice ... he was always the best Batman animated. Man, this is a great summer for comicbook movies! Can't wait!
