Lalo Schifrin is great...

..."Enter the Dragon" is one of my favorites of his, as is Kelly's Heroes.

penultimate means second to last. Why don't you look shit up before posting dipshit comments about grammar and spelling.

I probably still do someplace. I was a little disappointed to view the track listing of the CD and see that it apparently eliminated the track that had Eastwood reciting the famous Harry "I know what you're thinking" monologue. If it still had that I would so buy this without hesitation.

Don't mean to take away from the main article, but I'm still stumped as to why AICN, which, as we can plainly see, likes to cover film soundtracks both new and old, still has failed to post an obituary on the late Bebe Barron, who helped compose the groundbreaking electronic score for FORBIDDEN PLANET with her husband Louis. She passed away this past April.

Seems like a no-brainer that AICN would have acknowledged her passing. PLANET is an old-school geek classic. What gives?

"The penultimate" of the trilogy?

No way. The first two are the best. In fact, "Sudden Impact" is probably my least favorite, because of Sondra Locke. She's ugly, her character was ugly, and the theme of this movie (raped woman seeking revenge by shooting her attackers in the balls, then killing them) was ugly

Harry didn't say that line in this movie. He said that line in the first movie. In this movie, his big line was "Go ahead...make my day."
If penultimate does, in fact, mean last

then I agree. Dead Pool wasn't great, but this wasn't a whole lot better. The first three are all pretty strong.

Nosferatu, You are correct. I have a memorial post ready to go but I sadly didn't hear about her passing until about six weeks after it happened. You've inspired me to go ahead and post it. Expect it soon. Better late than never, right?

Yes it IS the "penultimate" one because "penultimate" doesn't have ANYTHING to do with quality. It means it's the next to last, which it IS. LDWhWJK:Adh-21e4u802918iewdqwd qa

... that it means "second to last." Pass it on! // Which was the one with Jim Carrey lip-synching "Welcome to the Jungle" (which Schifrin also composed, I'm told, after drinking a fifth of Jack Daniels).

whether "Impact" is next to last ("penultimate") chronologically, or whether it comes in as the second word of the series(next to last place) quality-wise. We all know that it's the fourth movie (1983 or so) and Dead Pool was the last (1987 or so). Quality wise, I'd probably say those two are about equal.

Where was Jim Carrey's acting the worst: The Dead Pool, Once Bitten, or pretty much everything else he's ever done with the exception of Eternal Sunshine? I vote: The Majestic.

I'm certainly not trying to hate on AICN... I just found it odd that they've posted obits in the past for other composers, and PLANET's score is rightfully considered a classic and light-years ahead of its time. I finally ordered the CD from Amazon after hearing the news and it's just as goosebump-inducing without the visuals. Good, creepy, inventive stuff.

And lest I take away from the Lalo Schifrin article, he is indeed one of the greats. Rewatched the original AMITYVILLE HORROR the other night (for the first time in years)... hard to fathom I ever believed that nonsense ever actually happened, and the film itself is almost complete garbage, but the score still made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Reminded me of when I'd watch it broadcast on CBS back in the early '80s and then had to sleep with all the lights on in my room! Nice to see Schifrin getting some props... certainly underrated when compared to the likes of Williams, Goldsmith and Barry (and it doesn't help that he seems to have more than his fair share of schlock on his resume), but a master just the same.

News to me. I heard Eastwood was supposed to be recording lines for a Dirty Harry video game... did that ever come out or what? Haven't heard anything about a new film until now, Robstar. Maybe Harrison Ford can pull off a new INDIANA JONES, but an 80-year old DIRTY HARRY? Not so sure about that one.

I've heard many great things about JOHN ADAMS both the series and the score. I don't have HBO so I haven't seen/heard any of it. I'm anxious to watch it and will be buying it the day it's released on DVD. I can't wait!

I haven't seen the film yet and I won't dare listen to the score until I see it. I have a copy of the soundtrack but haven't even listened to it yet. I believe mightily in judging film music with their respective films and something this cool I totally want to wait and get my first impression of from the film. After I see it, I'm sure I'll weigh in with my thoughts of the score. It's not every day I get to review a new score by JW.

I have zero will-power and cracked open my copy of the score today. I won't spoil anything for ya, don't worry. You're correct, music written for film needs to be heard within the context of the film. That being said, this is quite an enjoyable listening experience!
