Bekmambetov can keep up the emotional intensity that was the hallmark of "Night". "Day" was somewhat of a disappointment on that level, but the performance of the two leads (Mikur and Iska? Not sure on the spelling) more than made up for this. I should probably add that I've never heard of these movies.

Although both Watch movies were visually interesting, didn't the ending of DayWatch essentially nullify everything that happened in the 2 films? It felt like a bunch of foreplay with no payoff, hopefully Dusk Watch will be better, and hopefully "Dusk Watch" sounds cooler in Russian.

He just takes what he thinks is cool about dumb American movies and puts it in his Russian movie. Night Watch is truly a big CGI infested mess. Day Watch is better but not that much better. Its bloated, soul less, and to think that foreign cinema aspired to be like Hollywood is just disgusting. "Hey we can make big budget garbage too" You sure can Russia. You sure can.

I couldn't sit through either of them. It was more flash than substance not to mention how slow and dull the pacing was.Love the effects, but that's pretty much it, it's out there but needed some serious tweaking.Unless you're not planning to sell the DVDs, I suggest you watch the first 20 minutes and see if it grabs your attention or not.Just that it did nothing for me. Finally watched a bittersweet life and I hope Tartan releases this stateside, great performance by Lee Byung, whose image was used in the Capcom Videogame Lost Planet and is now playing the part of Storm Shadow in the GI Joe movie. (Not having my hopes for that one.)I figured he would be cast for Sulu in the new Star Trek movie especially since there is a resemblance to Takei.

Also I think Twilight Watch sounds better, but I guess Dusk fits in with it. Has anyone read the books? Also if this is made in Russian it won't fucking matter here, because they may as well just call it a DTV movie, since Searchlight has its head up its asses with the promotion of the first too movies. Also whats the deal with Trilogies now a days? Can't anyone make a movie that goes beyond three movies? Or is it just immpossible to keep the Audience interested that long? OR do we have to wait 10+ years for anything new (Die Hard/Rambo/Indy). Whatever I can't wait for this movie, I need to go and re-watch Daywatch, that ending was bat shit crazy.

..you kind of nailed it there, but Alot of American movies are bloated and souless..I can name hundreds of them(with bigger budgets).The bitch driving that car around on the sides of the buildings in Daywatch reminded me of Ultraviolet,lol. I dont have high hopes for "Wanted" either. It looks like UltraViolet part 2...curve ball bullets?? ..shelly...cOmE oN!! ..

Yes, I've read the books, and they're worth your attention if you haven't. The third book is called "Twilightwatch". That's where everyone has been getting that title from. Doesn't matter tho, cause the first two movies only covered the first 2/3 of the first book anyway.

In a bloody violent way, heads exploding and all. The more i see of the film the cooler it looks. McAvoy is looking very comfy in the role. Millar looks very happy with the adaptation. I just miss the more superhero-look of the comic, and hope some of those fantastic over-the-top characters make it into the film.

the reason the first movie was so good is because they only covered the first 3rd of the book. but for the movie day watch, they combined the 2nd and 3rd parts, and the results weren't as successful, IMO. I just wonder if the 3rd film will be based on the book Day Watch (book 2), or the book Twilight Watch (book 3). So goddamn confusing...

Glad you liked A Bittersweet Life. I'm happy to have watched the region 3 version but I think American audiences deserve to be introduced to it's awesomeness. I've always wondered who decides which ones to distribute and which not to. I mean, how does Dragon Tiger gate get a N.A. release but this doesn't? Makes no sense.

Yeah, as much as I'm disapointed in the casting and wardrobe of the GI Joe movie, I think Byung is a good choice for the role of Storm Shadow. If not (Dae woo Kim of Lost)Lee deserves Major arts in Hollywood as the guy can speak English so hould the Joe movie be of any uccess, hopefully he'll get more recognition from the Westerners. I'll check out Cut, but first I have to get through Shiri and maybe JSA (Both starring Lee)before anything. Actually HOD, I kinda liked Dragon Tiger Gate, moslty due to the fight scenes and of course my boy Donnie. But the story dragged and needed a rewrite if you ask me. A Bittersweet life is a classic no doubt and matches fine when compared to Park chan wook's Revenge trilogy.Almost lie a spiritual succesor IMHO and the ending can be interpeted in two different ways. I'm sure to add this to my collection if it gets here Stateside.What's funny is I managed to snag Invisible Target, but not in it's native language (the audio is Spanish)and had to add english subtitles.So fr it looks worth the effort digging for this.As always,great suggestions!!

The books were phenomenally better--As mentioned above, the first movie was the first third of the first book, although the ending was so incredibly skewed by the end that the second movie was devoted to skewing it BACK. How badly was it changed? In the books, Yegor isn't Anton's son, and in fact isn't all that important; he's just played up by the Night Watch so that they miss the real prize in Svetlana, who is given a crash course in magic through the rest of the book so that she can use the chalk at the end (and only an extremely powerful Light Sorceress can use it), and even then THAT's a fakeout to distract the Day Watch so Olga can use it, just so Sveta has a shot at giving birth to something like the next Messiah. I can't do the books justice, but suffice it to say that what I read of the movie plot of Day Watch crippled any interest I had in seeing it.

I watched the first two movies because a friend loved the books. I watched both movies and like them both. A month or so ago I started reading the books. I'm half way through the second book, Day Watch, but when I was reading Night Watch I kept thinking to myself "Is this the same book as the movie??" It was just hard for me to match the two up, there was only one scene I read that I could remember in the movie. I'm still really enjoying the books, but it's like they're made of up short stories and the movies just take a little bit of the book and turn it into the movie. Once I'm done reading Day Watch I'm going to watch the movies again.

As I was saying, I hope wanted is good. I enjoyed the comic and it will be drastically different than that. Creative Screenwriting mag interviewed the wanted writers, and they basically said they got the job after only the first issue of wanted. Similar to how there's a movie deal for Millar's "Kick ass" after only two issues. Anyway, they said they couldn't have a character like the comic book wesley because the general audience wouldn't watch a movie about a guy who rapes the biggest movie star on the planet just becuase and shoots up a police station becuase he can. So I have hopes the direction they go will be entertaining, but so far the previews haven't shown me anything incredibly original. Just rehashed matrix effects.
