Carell is only funny on non live TV. His skits were just OK. The only thing that made me laugh was when they did a Mark Whalberg skit. It was random and the impersonation was dead on. I also so something with a goat. Thank God for the live feeds at my job.

I wouldn't sweat it. Herc is easily the worst writer on AICN and has awful taste in everything. He loves defending things that everyone hates on (i.e. the Justice League movie) because he has a reflex to love everything that sucks, such as SNL. I'm a little angry that he totally dissed the Sarah Connor Chronicles and gave it basically zero coverage on the site, but mostly he's just the one part of AICN that I hate. Ok, I'm done.

Devilcat called it: Herc, quit being a Tool
by Big Dumb Ape
May 17th, 2008
10:57:11 PM
Bitching about SNL's quality has always been a pointless exercise to me. I'm old enough to remember its PREMIERE, ok? And going all the way back to that...no matter how much you like to look at certain cast periods through rose colored glasses...there has always been one true constant. Namely, the show has always been up and down in quality from week to week.

Which frankly always surprised me as the years went on. I mean when it first launched it was one thing to argue that it was a "new" show that was trying to find its voice, but all these years later -- and after all the success and stature it has gained -- you'd think that Lorne Michaels would literally have the pick of the litter at finding all-new, all-brilliant writers looking to break into TV. So to that end I've never understood how such a successful LONG RUNNING show never got better on a more CONSISTENT basis.

As for Herc, Devilcat called it. McCain wasn't a WGA member or even a member of a standing union, so stop being such a tool and trying to make it seem like McCain did anything wrong. Why is there even a need to point out that McCain did the TONIGHT SHOW? As others have noted, where did it say in the WGA strike rules that UNSCRIPTED GUESTS had to stop appearing on the show? Why should McCain be held under the spotlight versus any of the actual fucking CREW that was still actively putting out the show at the time? Or even the audience members who kept filling the seats? Was McCain the ONLY person who appeared on the TONIGHT SHOW when the writers were out? Fuck no. And while we're at it, are you at least going to be fair and name EVERYONE who crossed the line and guested on the TONIGHT SHOW?

This is where Herc's politically tool-like head will soon explode. One day soon he'll be posting one of his already pre-written, all-kiss ass and glowing reviews for Whedon's new DOLLHOUSE show, and yet that week it will turn out the guest star was someone who likewise appeared on the TONIGHT SHOW during the strike period too. And do you think Herc will point THAT out in his review? Will he bring up the fact that his beloved Joss employed an actor who crossed the line to sit on Jay's couch? Ha! Don't bet on it...

I love Keenan Thompson because I hate him so much

Mccain calculated that appearing on SNL and making fun of himself for being old would pull the rug out from others why try to do the same, thereby stealing their thunder. Did he succeed? Not really. That monologue was sleep-inducing, and I felt like he was going to nod off as well. Doesn't build confidence.

by Big Dumb Ape

11:35:07 PM
Hating on McCain's age IS the hip thing for the Left, make no mistake. You know, I said this in a recent political talkback and I'll say it again: for all the Obama Messiah love (which frankly does get out of hand and ludicrous at times) I see NO sign that our country is coming together, and I actually predict this coming election will be one of the ugliest EVER. Even worse, when it's done I think we'll actually be even MORE apart.

That said it should be the Democrats year. They have everything going their way, so now I'll wait to see if another Reverend Wright type thing does come along to blow Obama out of the water OR if overconfidence will be the Dems undoing in November.

In fact, along those notes, the other night I got a great laugh watching some Democratic Strategist bag on McCain on some talk show. The host noted we haven't even gotten out of the nominating process yet and to the "Big Game" (ie. the actual run-off for President) at which point the female strategist got all cocky and said "We're going to DESTROY McCain. There will be nothing of him left standing. You are right. Right now Obama is still in the AFC playoffs and we haven't even gotten to the Super Bowl yet where we will OBVIOUSLY win."

So here's a small footnote in history to Dems or at least to that overconfident strategist. If you're going to use an analogy like football and talk about how UNBEATABLE Obama is and then literally cite the AFC playoffs, you might want to pick another example given that last year's AFC champs were the New England Patriots who went 18-0 and for having gone the whole season unbeatable were predicted to win the Super Bowl in an easy way...

...At which point they choked in the final big game and the Giants shocked the world by being the come from behind underdog winner.

So like I said, with all the O-Love that it seems you just can't escape since the media keeps ramming it down our throats, I really am going to laugh if Middle America gives the Obama loving media and all the pollsters and all the pundits the finger next election day and DOES elect McCain instead...

Orionsangels, if THAT'S your reason for WHY we should all vote for Obama this time around, please feel free to distribute it through as many emails, flyers and bumper stickers as you can.

Comments like that, much like Obama's infamous "people hold on to their guns and religion because they're bitter" comment, will certainly seal the deal with Middle America about who they should now vote for -- and I mean FOR McCain.

Yeah, she's hot. But, by my own estimation, she's been in about 200 movies during the past year. And all were flops (Alba is the direct-to-DVD diva. Her films are barely in theatres for a weekend; 72 hours later, they're cluttering Blockbuster shelves). I'm surprised that SNL (really lame shit tonight) didn't focus on Hillary Clinton's KKK rally (West Virginia). Personally, I'm elated to watch the old douchebag go down in flames. Viva Obama! As for McCain, he qualifies as a SNL regular (Jesus, replace Keenan with this guy).

Which I just figured out today . . . I think the Republicans know they're going to lose. Instead of building up and wasting some fresh Republican talent, they dust off McCain to fill an unwinnable spot on their ticket. Perhaps they are hoping they can repair some of the damage and find a way to compete in 2012. It's like trading down for a great draft pick, as if they now consider the current season to be a "rebuilding year." Then again, Mccain could surprise us and find a way to appeal to the ignorant lower to middle class shitkickers who STILL insist Obama is a muslim and that an illegal immigrant has more power over their state of employment than a multinational corporation that keeps its wealthand its productivity overseas (you know, to avoid all those pesky liberal issues like safe working conditions, consumer advocacy, and a decent wage). Good old fashioned Ad Nausem logical fallacies. . . . repeat it again and again, until everyone just accepts it as fact. Fox News, and the Bush admin, have been doing it for years . . . don't forget that the liberal media is biased, and that bias now extends throughout all accepted history, including FDR, Hitler, WWII, forgeign policy int he 70s and 80s, and just about everythign else. It's an important point, and McCain better not forget it if he wants to stay competitive.

Bush and Mccain are rivals going way back, they had an incredibly bitter and hard fought campaign for the nomination in 2000 rivaling this years Obama hilary bout. They have also frequently clashed over policy while Bush has been president. In fact due to Mccains frequent lack of towing the party line it has been often rumored he was switching parties. It is also a concern of the Mccain campaign that they will not get enough hard core republicans votes due to his more center of the road views.

when all the 'liberal hippie nut jobs' were telling us that both global warming and fuel crisis were both looming on the horizon and we needed to start planning for it and making very minor changes in our lifestyles and looking into alternative fuel technologies? and every last one of you goddamned motherfuckers put your fingers in your ears and said 'nope, nope, nope'? (and I can't speak for other liberals, but to me the strangest thing was how you actually seemed to get personally offended and defensive by even the suggestion that these problems either existed or would exist very near in future). You faggots actually *politicized* issues that we were genuinely concerned about and bucked against them simply out of spite for the other side. And now, here they both are, global warming and energy crisis. And John fucking McCain giving speeches about how dedicated he is to both issues. What utter bullshit. My point is, you guys are obviously counter-productive as a party in general. You inexplicably buck against ideas and proposals that are beneficial to the US and the human race in general simply because your 'enemy' the liberals proposed it and not admitting that side can be right about anything is more important to you than the welfare of your country. I think if I were you guys, I'd take a long hard look at just how much you were wrong about the biggest issues facing us this decade, Iraq, global warming, and the upcoming need for alternative fuels solutions, and how we were *right* about all these things to the point that most republicans are now coming around to our position, and give us the benefit of the doubt for a while, before you backwards nutjobs completely ruin this country beyond the point of repair.

Here's a really straight forward analogy. There's a dam right by our town and if it ever broke, we'd all drown. One day I see a weird looking spot on the side of the dam, and I propose we re-inforce it, just on the offchance it really is a defect. I mean, it's just a little bit of work, and there's no reason NOT to do it right? Because if I'm right, we've still re-inforced the dam, right? That's still good...in terms of positive and negatives of what I'm proposing, the negative being it was unnecessary and the dam was fine...we've STILL MADE IT STRONGER. There's no logical reason to not make our dam a little bit stronger if we can, if it spares us grief down the rode. And if I'm right, it is weak, and we don't fix it, we all drown next time there's a big storm surge. So if whether my theory is right or wrong, if we act on it we benefit in the long run. And if we don't act on it, and I was right, we die.
Now the worst part, is not only are you refusing to believe it's even possible the dam could break, you for some crazy reason actively prevent me from trying to get it fixed up. Like, you're going to dramatic lengths to prevent any action that would reinforce that dam. It's crazy. It's absolutely demented. if you don't believe there's a problem, then fine. Don't try to help, watch tv. But don't you realize how absolutely insane it is to try to stop the people who believe there is a problem from taking steps to fix it? Out of what...spite? Because you hate the guy who is trying to fix it, and you don't *want* him to be right?

I remember the race in 2000 (Death Race 2000), where Bush attacked McCain in a vicious manner which the Democrats never would. He even put out ads implying that Mccain was mentally unstable because of the years he spent in a prison war camp, and was thereby unfit to be a leader. So the Republicans now, who get mad at people for criticizing Mccain, did you get mad at Bush too back then? If not, then its just hypocrisy.

The bizarre thing was, Mccain didn't get mad either, and he followed the party line and supported most of Bush's failed policies and political stunts to follow. Even as recently as this Friday where Bush called people who want to use diplomacy with our enemies equivalent to appeasers like Chamberlain who appeased Hitler. Mccain followed with a speech where he agreed with Bush's moronic statements and went as far as to name Obama. Anyone who knows anything knows that diplomacy and appeasement are not the same things. Chamberlain allowed Hitler to take territory in Austria and Czechoslovakia hoping that it would satisfy him and prevent full-scale war - that is appeasement. It is not the same as speaking to your enemies.

Those are just a few reasons why Mccain is Bush's bitch, but sometimes a picture speaks a thousand words:

Funny how your analogy fits perfectly with Clinton doing almost nothing about the terrorist problem before it got out of control. In the 90's there was this guy named osama Bin Laden who blew up our embassy in africa, blew a hole in the cole, attacked us in somalia (aka black hawk down) & finally attempted to bring down the world trade center but only killed about 10 people and turned the lower levels (parking garage) into a massive crater causing millions perhaps billions in damage. hundreds would have been killed had it not occured so early in the morning. For some reason very little was done about all this. So when Clinton had a chance to put a finger in the dam why did'nt he? Of course this was left to be cleaned up by the next president. I think he did nothing because he knew that it would be unpopular and would tarnish his legacy. Bubbah has gotten very angry when this has been brought up to him over the past few years. I guess the truth hurts.

Was i mad at bush back then over his campaign? Nope. Am I mad at anyone now over their campaign? Nope. It is dirty politics, it wins elections and anyone that wants to win does it. I am sure bush and his people were smart enough not to have his name attached to any ad that distasteful though. Usually it is an organization supporting the candidate but not directly affiliated to them that slings the really nasty mud. that way they can easily come out against the ad if theres a public backlash. And you give one wafer thin example as to why they are in bed together? Geez even you can surely do better than that. The guys do not like each other, its a fact. just because they agree once in a while means nothing.

Obviously if Mccain wants to win, his strategy will be to try to prove he is different from Bush and does not support the same policies. But he supports a failed war, tax cuts for corporations and oil companies, has no universal health care plan, and believes in the same hard-headed foreign policy as Bush as evident by his comments on Friday, and numerous speeches and comments prior.

And the more he tries to shift to the left to prove he's different from Bush, the more wishy-washy he proves to be as he keeps flip-flopping. One strategy would be to adopt all identical policies as Obama, and then just put out a campaign that says "We're identical on the issues so vote for the white guy". In America, given the reality of the views in this country, that just might work. But he would have trouble still calling himself a Republican.

With a new safe haven to operate in and a lot of free time, what do you think Al-Qaeda will do? take up farming? Even Hillary knows better than to let this happen. yeah lets get Obama in there so we can take the pressure of Al-Qaeda and they can get back to the buiness of blowing shit up all over earth. Watching. Really good episode, minus the fact that the audience was laughing so god damn much and loud I missed half of the jokes, especially the office were it was prerecorded and couldn't pause while the audience shut up. Anyone else have that problem? May be my system?

If true, then it shows how far this country has "progressed".Many Hispanics are not even in power when compared to Blacks and those same whites who wouldn't support the idea of a Black Prez, definatley would far less likely vote a Hispanic in Office.

of Hillary Clinton that McCain would have thought twice before two two separate bits on the show AND hanging out to wave it out.

Still, I say let McBush have his fun. He's going to get his hat handed to him in November.

It's time for Hillary Clinton to take the high road and bow out of the election and let Obama focus on November. Hillary supporters will have no choice but to hold their collective noses and vote Obama if they have any shed of decency.

I am a fucking idiot? Wow you got the nerve to say that and you don't even know who was president during the Black Hawk down Incident. Do you have google? 30 seconds of research would have saved you from looking like such a tool. Also, Bin Laden has been linked to this incident by numerous reports, I saw a documentary that said it was believed that Al Qeada trained troops in Mogadishu to bring down US helicopters by firing Grenades at the rear propellers. Al Qeada has been linked to the incident in many ways just do a little research before you mouth off. Simply type things like Bin Laden Farah Aidid into google and see what you get.
