Hmm...actually I like that choice. I never was a fan of Carson Daly. I tried tuning in to his show and was bored out of my skull. The guy has no charisma. If it'd had been him, Late Night would have gone in a completely different direction. Fallon is a great choice to keep things moving in the right direction for the program.

people we're pretty skeptical of micheal's decision to give "late night" to conan initially.

I don't care who is taking O'Brien's late night show. What I want to know is: Will Conan be changing his style to suit the Leno timeslot? Conan's show now is too "unique" for Leno-type fans. I view Leno's show as "tame" compared to what O'Brien airs. And will Conan tape in NYC or LA?

They built an entirely new studio for him, and he's mentioned buying a multi-million dollar house in the same neighborhood as Dr. Phil.

As for his style, I'm sure changes will have to be made, not the least of which certain racier elements that Tonight Show may not allow, but it'll still be our blessed Conan.

Maybe Jeff Zucker will be get the axe, but it will at least be Ben Silverman.

So a search for any past SNL cast member and 'snl' in Youtube and you'll find pages and pages of their funniest sketches. Do a search for 'jimmy fallon snl' and see what you get. Pages and pages of him singing stupid fucking songs (aka ripping off adam sandler) and the only 'funny' snl sketches you find are clips of him cracking up and breaking character in the middle of sketches. He has little talent, and the talent he does possess is him doing an adam sandler impression and passing it off as his own material.

Of all of them , CF is the funniest. Most of his jokes all are spontaneous. He starts off a joke by reading the cue card, but half way through the joke he'll remember something that happened to him which is funnier, and tell the audience about it, and never manages to finish the original joke. He is REALLY REALLY funny. He is the prefect successor for Letterman.

02:40:22 PM
I know you'll never understand this, if you're the type who think puns and typos in newspaper clippings. But Jay Leno's jokes are so pedestrian and easy. Let's see...someone in the news has been accused of sex with a minor? Let's end that with a michael jackson punchline. John McCain is in the news? Hmm...let's end that one with an age reference. Hilary Clinton? Let's make a joke about her husband being horny. Jay is an absolute hack, and his jokes are so obvious you could literally pause his monologue and guess the punchline to each joke. Conan O'Brien is a master of absurd comedy, he goes places douchebags like Leno and Letterman couldn't even conceive of. He doesn't go for the obvious joke, he goes for the least obvious, strangest joke, and makes it work.

...and this is coming from a longtime Dave watcher back in the NBC days. Leno has always sucked...Dave has been suck since NBC and Conan has always been good. I haven't watched regular TV other than a show here and there in so long I don't know if its all shit now but for a long time only Conan was truly funny. Even when he's on somebody else's show he's hilarious. That big giant Irish head helps I think (I too have a gigantic Irish head, so it's ok for me to mock or otherwise question both the size and genealogy of Conan's head).
I HATE Fallon...
by Mosquito March
May 12th, 2008
03:57:15 PM
...I "Hitler" hate him. I think he's an amalgam of the worst aspects of Mike Myers and Adam Sandler. In fact, if those two shit in a pot, stirred it up, and then Lorne Michaels came along and made shit sculptures out of the shit cocktail, you'd get Jimmy Fallon. But if you asked me who the most unprofessional cast member in SNL history is, I'd point to Fallon's cohort, Horatio Sanz. That fuck didn't even attempt to get INTO character, let alone try not to break it. That said, though, Fallon is the worst thing to happen to late nite TV since The Chevy Chase Show. And Chevy Chase had actual comedic talent.
Oh yeah...

Is it me or is Fallon not really late night talk show host material? I guess you don't have to wear a suit but can anybody picture this guy in a suit...with combed hair? Has this guy ever combed or otherwise brushed his hair? He's full on "helmet-head-just-got-outta-be d" hair. I don't think the look thing is a deal-breaker per se as I think he's pretty funny for the most part but still...he's not remotely the suit & tie guy type and the realm of late night talk has always been the purview of the Suit and Tie.

to begin with, Conan can only improve the show. However, Conan as of late hasn't been all that funny, hes become redundant, the writing seems to have become dumbed down ala Jay Leno. I think the new Conan show will only be worse, less racy, and more mainstream. I think The Daily Show, and especially The Colbert Report are superior to any of these shows, although different obviously. Never seen Craig Ferguson, although, doesn't come on in the UK.

is when he does "Headlines, ads, obituaries, wedding announcements, flyers, menu typos and photos of people standing in front of things that look like they're growing out of their heads" And then, after the actual funny clipping gets a laugh, he then messes up a scripted one liner that wouldn't have been funny even if he got it right and the audience murmurs politely. After all these years he still doesn't get that his "capper" adds nothing to the joke of the clipping.

years ago when newspapers were on real paper I clipped a headline. maybe you remember this story: "Lesbian National Guard Colonel Faces Discharge."

my other favorite Leno monologue schtick is when he reads a stupid quote and then caps it with a witty rejoinder of "Oh, shut up!" for the nine hundredth time. Because "Oh, shut up!" is comedy gold... if you're a twelve year old girl.

by romanocc
May 12th, 2008
06:53:04 PM
I haven't watched late night TV on a regular basis in 15 years since Carson retired and Letterman bolted to CBS. Those were the glory days, where Carson was consistently funny every night, and Letterman had that edge at the 12:30 spot. Leno has a good monologue but is an AWFUL interviewer, and plays it too safe. Letterman has not been edgy, let alone really funny since his days at NBC, as I think he bought into his own hype when CBS paid him 14 million a year. Conan does great bits cause he is a great writer from SNL, but IS NOT FUNNY ONE BIT!!!! The guy after Letterman is unwatchable, and Jimmy Fallon will just be another guy who doesn't have the talent to entertain every night. This is a tough job, as you have to be funny every night, and only a few have been able to pull it off. Man I miss the days of Carson/Letterman, nothing better then staying up late as kid in the summer when school was out. Now I go to bed early.

David Letterman sucks, since when does GRINDER GIRL, HELLO DELI, and DOES IT FLOAT constitute high comedy. David Letterman has been phoning it in for YEARS. He is giving the TV audience the BIRD nightly. And what do his idiot fans say? "THANK YOU, MORE PLEASE." as they bend over. The TOP 10 LIST is rarely funny. More like a TOP 2 LIST. I wonder what poor old CRAIG KILBORN has been up to lately? He deserved better. I will give JIMMY EATS FALLON (Fallon being a girl's name.) the same chance I gave CHEVY CHASE. If he can pull it off I will watch. I wonder if CONAN will keep the same writers, those guys are very funny in the skits. Hey I know, TRIUMPH THE INSULT COMEDY DOG for talk show host. Asking guests where they grew up and what they're going to do during the summer is oh so lame. He can't be bothered to read background on each guest and has a big star and couldn't give two shits about them and after 5 minutes doesn't ask most back for another segment because he doesn't have any conversation points.
