Witchblade is originally an American property. It started as a comic book with Image around '96, so it's been around for a while. If you're talking about the Manga I think it airs on the IFC (the Independent Film Channel), not cable/satellite provider shows IFC, so that's probably why you haven't seen it.

Why are they even bothering to make another shitty comic book into a movie? "The Exterminators" or "The Walking Dead" should be made into movies before this gratuitous T'n'A shitfest (not that I have anything against T'n'A, just give me a decent story with it).

For one thing, its not the comic, this actually has a story and has nothing to do with Sara but another "Witchblade" The TV show was also decent, at least first season wise. Both wisely added storylines to what really was a shitty tits and ass comic along the line of Lady Death and Evil Ernie comics that where pretending to be "edgy" back then. They would never have made it 2 issues in these post comic code days.

Make The Darkness first, then introduce Witchblade in the sequel. The only reason Witchblade became popular was because Michael Turner was so good at drawing hot chicks. His other work, Fathom, would make a more successful transition to the big screen compared to Witchblade. But one comic that will be a sure hit if ever made to the big screen is Danger Girls.

Both were boxoffice duds, thus I presumed that Hollywood no longer yielded to superheroines. Caution: the trademark costumes for Vampirella and Witchblade were ditched in the TV movies (the actresses preferred more conservative attire). Take a look at Witchblade's near non-existent "costume": http://www.csmoorestudio.com/A rmor_Bikini_Witchblade_Statue_ PREORDER_p/csms1030.htm They'd better not fuck this one up. If the actress is barely clad in this Band Aid, I'm definitely there.

The series sucked because none of the characters were faithful to their comic counterparts. Yancy Butler is good looking but was not right for the role. I think someone who had a more volutpuous form but strong personality would have been key. Plus if you read the comic, Nottingham wasn't a bum-looking dude. He was well dressed but kick ass. I'm just having trouble coming up with someone who would have fit the part for Sara and Nottingham but no one in Hollywood really fits the bill in my opinion. Maybe they should go the Beowulf route on this one...

Dude was very detailed, and at one time, an awesome penciller. His early work was great and I saw great things in store for him. However, over time his style got lazy as well as his anatomical accuracy. He still does detail very well but his figures are more akin to Rob Leifeld I'm sorry to say. You want awesome art? Check out the works of Travis Charest, Adi Granov, Adam Hughes, Renato Guedes, & Gabriele Dell'Otto. These guys are raising the fucking bar as far as I'm concerned.

Whichblade always had my interest as a comic book, but once I was past all the gorgeous art work, there really wasn't enough to keep me engaged. Such was the plight of all the Top Cow (and subsequently Image) titles. So much promise, but not enough pay off (though I'd say the one exception to this would be Alan Moore's run on Wild CATs.). As for this, what'd I'd like to say about female based comic book projects has been said already. I don't know what the studio is thinking where this is concerned.

BAKER STREET or DEADWORLD would make better movies

Witchblade and all the Top Cow shit is just shallow fanwank.

Baker Street was a good storyline, had a proxy for the audience, and had a compelling main character and interesting punk setting.

Deadworld was a great twist on the zombie genre. It wasn't like all the Romero & clone stuff (ie "what happens on the day the zombies come?") and was instead about what happens AFTER, and what if some of them are smart and can talk, plot, and work to destroy humanity?

Gang... 'The Powers That Be' picked Witchblade and that's it. So let it go will ya? :) Yancy did a great job for the series but it wasn't her fault for the execution of direction that the series took. Parts of it were very compelling and some, well, you know... The biggest problem (The Fanboys agree) was the costuming. It started cool with the mid-armor, but it should have evolved before the end of season one, as well as the Gauntlet starting to grow and manipulate as well. If you Google 'Witchblade' and 'Cosplay' there are several girls who made their own 'Witchblade Outfit' WITH the Gauntlet! (And they look great!) So a 'big budget' film should be able to do the same. Without the outfit, it's just a CSI/NYPD/CSU detective 'chick' show. The actress has to be everything... IN the Costume and OUT! (Yeah, that too.) Anyone voting for Megan Fox in that outfit? I actually really liked the comic. I may be biased a bit though as I've liked media based on badass chicks as I like to consider myself one. Haha. I think this has the propensity to be either really good or really crappy. Hopefully it'll be the former. It seems like Rhona Mitra is no longer in it? She's not listed on imdb nor is WB listed on her site... Good news. Doomsday was a crap on a stick. I hope they also do a Darkness film... I'm just getting into that. Loler at Yancy's brows XD. It's like the "mole" bit on Austin Powers. Everytime I watched WB my eyes were slowly drawn to her brows. Also about the Darkness being fully "clothed," I can somewhat understand. Codpieces/speedo, (which I'd consider a WB-outfit nakedness equivalent,) while somewhat hot, can turn out really fruity looking hahah.

It was a poor comic that relied solely on T&A to sell. It wasn't even well-drawn T&A, either. It was ridiculous Liefeld-style balloon boobs and ridiculously-long thighs.

I still curse Todd McFarlane for opening the door to such crappy art styles. Before him, the most out-there comic book artist was Bill Sienkiewicz, but at least his stuff had some character and was unique.

Still, the worst famous comic book artist (as opposed to newer guys that weren't classic-era) was and remains John Byrne. I always hated his art because his characters were so damned interchangeable. The facial features were damned near identical. The anatomy was like action figures. He was a decent writer, but his art always left me cold.

Of course, I mark John Romita Jr. as one of my favorites, and he's coming back to Amazing Spider-Man, dammit. He's not as slick as some newer artists, but his style's a real meat-and-potatoes comic book style that does the job well.

And as much as I respect the man, Kirby's art never made me beg for more. It's iconic, and he deserves all the credit in the world for creating the look of so many characters, but sometimes I just can't help noticing that all his people look like they're made out of balloons; Like balloon animals.

I veered way off the point--- My point is that Witchblade and most other Top Cow comics were T&A rags with minimal story or character development. The art style was just this side of manga, and the focus was clearly, obviously on gigantic tits, guns, and swords.

I'd be surprised if anyone who actually every touched a real girl ever subscribed to a Top Cow comic.

Sherlock - THE SHADOW

We need some love for THE SHADOW. That movie was fucking awesome, and when shown it some weeks ago for the first time, Mrs Spud-To-Be said "How come I never heard of this before? It's brilliant!". Yes, it is, and it was buried somewhere early in the 1990s in some shit-ass non-summer position where no-one saw it except for a few faithful fans. It is a SPECTACULAR movie, it absolutely pisses on the lukewarm BATMAN BEGINS (in that this actually has a DECENT Act III) and is up there with the best superhero movies. Even Alec Baldwin is likeable - that's some feat. Sherlock, I got your back - this film is awesome, and deserves your respect, bitches.

Same problem with SPAWN...
by spud mcspud
May 14th, 2008
01:52:51 PM
Great idea, written by idiots. The pathos inherent in a guy becoming a hell-born undead superhero, having to watch his wife and kid move in with his best friend, having to do Hell's bidding while trying to find a way out of it, and the down-and-out Heaven's rejects backup that try to help him... Seemed like a slam-dunk to me, until I saw that fucking movie in the 90s. Jesus. The only person in that who can hold their head high is Leguizamo. That should be Leguizamo's legacy: in his obit, it'll read "this guy was the best thing in a LOT of shit movies. But if you find you're watching a shit movie starring Leguizamo, stick around, His contribution will always be great."

Seriously... how did they fuck up SPAWN? It should've been so awesome... Todd McFarlane - YOU SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!
