Pros: this sounds like a great concept.

Cons: There were GOOD bits in THE INVASION?!?!?

Though this does sound like the epic DTV classic PROGENY, by my hero Brian Yuzna and the immortal Arnold Vosloo ("I don't get angry. I'm a professional." in the only decent Van Damme flick EVER).

Could be very cool though. Remember THE FORGOTTEN? Those abduction shots still freak me the fuck out, and now the open sky makes me very nervous.

Was very good indeed. Didn't wimp out, got a lot of the British touches right, great non-Hollywood casting for the supporting players and a note perfect dig at bird flu and panic media. Quality popcorn.

Thought the movie was ok. But a bunch of people I know say its there most favorite movie ever? IDK I always thought it was funny how the British celebrated Guy Fawkes day. Then again they also celebrate boxing day.

With that said, I reiterate my philosophy that foreign directos need to stay PUT! If they do make the trip to hollywoodland they get one chance to proove that they can work it American Style with the big budgets and fancy cars. If it sucks (Invasion, Derailed) then they have to go back to there homeland and continue making great movies there. I know there are success stories (Del Toro, Paul Verhoven) but Oliver Hirschbiegel please go home. Lets see how Timur Bekmambetov fares this summer, though if there was anything else I betted on besides black, it would be his ability to make a decent big hollywood movie.

No, I think you missed the point completely by viewing it as a right vs left movie, meaning that YOU can't see the forest for the trees. V for Vendetta was an excellent flick. The only downside is that now every stupid teenage psuedo-anarchist runs around in that Guy Fawkes mask. I think they're the ones that really missed the point of the movie.

While the book was government-vs-anarchy, the movie had clearly been re-engineered into some kind of bullshit allegory for the times we live in under the current administration. Ground that had already been covered, I might add years earlier by the starwars prequels.

I'd talked V up for months prior to release and felt genuinely embarrassed as me and my friends shuffled out of the cinema in complete silence after watching it. V For Vendetta is to political debate what Crash is to the race issue.

then it's a really good film. I can understand if you, like myself, read the comic book before the film but were unable to go alone with the updated issues. Personally, I went along with it and had a good time. It's the best adaptation of Moore's work to date, and judging by what I've seen of The Watchman, it will remain the best adaptation for some time.

I recommend it in a double bill with CHILDREN OF MEN. Both have similar TV propaganda inserts ('Only Britain Soldiers on' etc) But amazingly different in texture. Much as I think CHILDREN is pure movie heaven, V FOR VENDETTA stands up as equally enjoyable, and full of exhilarating ideas...

It had serious problems. Stephen Rea's policeman had absolutely nothing to do but look miserable and plod about. He didn't really solve anything. And why the hell was HE one of the inner party? Why did they cast the hideous, snaggle-toothed John Hurt as Chancellor (urgh) Sutler (double-urgh) when they had Roger Allam, who was the dog's bollocks for about ten minutes and then was boringly dead. Stephen Fry's comedy skit was agonisingly bad, so awful that you actually wanted Mr Creedy (Tim Pigott Smith: excellent) to black-bag him. The whole shiny new London of Tony Blair just didn't work. New Labour is NOT fascism. You can't have proper totalitarianism without the filth and grime of economic catastrophe. What, the USA is a leper colony and London still has waste-paper baskets and water coolers? Please. If they had got Curaon to do V like Children of men, it would have been a classic. The problem was that it was a movie about fascism, concentration camps, nerve gas, murder, anarchism, bombing, rape and terror that was filmed for a PG13 audience. You can't do that.

Because they've only ever had centre-right governments. They have NO experience of communism, socialism or fascism. Sorry, but that is the case. I'm tired of having to listen to the 'difference' between Hillary 'obliterate Iran' and John 'Bomb bomb bomb, Iran' from American voters. They're all the same. and they will be, until the US collapses as a viable state.

I've been to 48 US states. I have family in three. I stay in the US for at least a month every year and every year it's like falling into a coma when I get off the plane. People in suburbs on meds watching TV and bleating about the political system. People who have never known a hunger pang; who are literally overfed at every hour of every day. people who measure the distance they walk every day in inches. And then I go home, to where people aren't on Xanax, obese, driving from house to mall and back again without getting a sniff of fresh air. hold on; back to my point; when was the last time that an American utility was nationalised? That's the lowest rung of socialism. WATCHING OTHER COUNTRIES DOESN'T COUNT.

Georeg Bush doesn't even have the guts to say ONE BAD THING about gay people and you think he's going to declare martial law, suspend the constitution and make himself Fuhrer? No, sorry; checks and balances. I agree that things are worse in the US than they've been for ages but you are still one VERY unregulated society, that politics is totally corrupted by lobbyists but the situation is closer to the hobbling sprawl of Later Rome than a proper fascist state.

I thought the ninja craze had come and gone. Are we bringing Michael Dudikoff out of retirement? Are we digging up Lee Van Cleef's bones?

I don't understand why some people still think ninjas are in any way cool or relevant. They all died out hundreds of years ago and (shock, horror) they're not magical.

As to why the ninjas (and samurais) died out hundreds of years ago, just watch the scene from Raiders where Indy shoots the guy with the sword.

Now mulitply that scene by ten thousand and whaddya know, no more ninjas.

I'm surprised you guys are so positive about that one. Children of Men was about 10 times the movie that V was trying to be. The original comic book was great, but the movie was the typical Moore adaptation. I was really hoping for a better movie version, and felt completely underwhelmed after walking out of the theater. Portman and Agent Smith were good, I guess, but the stuff with John Hurt, and especially the end, was just blech.

Just a sub-par, godawful, disposable popcorn flick with laughable pretensions of being "relevant." It's even worse when you consider how mind-fuckingly brilliant and nuanced the source material is. But leaving that aside, the film taken on its own merits is a piece of crap. Shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as the feat of dystopian brilliance that was Children of Men.

This movie seems to be lacking in any kind of 'soul' or 'heart' and looks to be inspired only by money, as opposed to anything genuine or artistic. Though it is all rather sad, I can not pretend to be surprised. I am sometimes scared for the future of entertainment and, more broadly, culture.
