It was quite frustrating seeing him get thwarted in past episodes, when he was the only 815er who seemed to have a plan and the solid skills to go against enemies.

As for the situation with him outing Michael: I hope Sayid did that as part of a bigger plan to take down the captain. I'm thinking that Sayid doesn't trust the captain at all.

but why does he stay? Why does Jack go with an eased conscience? Someone is not going to be truthful as to the rescue plan. Six go with the others thinking the rest are following. And they do not. Or maybe Des believes Pen-auh is on the way so he sticks it out. But Jack leaving without "fixing" everything and fulfilling his promise to GET THEM ALL OFF. Something amiss with that.

Four hours left and then seven months. I did NOT need to be reminded of that.

The Gashleycrumb LOSTIES

A is for Aaron, asleep in a bed, a bay-bee whose mum's boyfriend called turniphead.

And A's Ana-Lucia, a bad cop, not a winner, gave her handgun to Michael who popped a cap in her.

And A's sarcastic Arzt and I won't try to con ya, he blowed up real good, dude, there's some of him on ya.

And A is for young Alexandra, killed and gone, because her dad used her life as if she were a pawn.

B's for Benjamin Linus, a quite awesome baddy, whose crimes just begin with nerve-gassing his daddy.

And B's for Boone who survived Oceanic, but died from a smaller plane crash, how ironic.

C's for Cindy the stewardess, taken by The Others, watches over The Children as if she were their mother.

D is for Driveshaft, a Brit one hit wonder that broke up when one of the band moved down under.

And D's Desmond, a Scot, soldier, monk, and a seer, brotha's unstuck in time, now he's then, now he's here.

E's for Mr. Eko who stood silent, strong, tall, until Smokey smacked him around like a ragdoll.

F's for Tom Friendly, fake-bearded pretender, who was killed on the beach as he tried to surrender.

F's for pilot Frank Lapidus, a man with a history, a darn good chopper pilot, a drunk and a mystery.

and F is for Faraday, a physicist twitchy, with a crush on Charlotte, archeologist bitchy.

G's Greta with Bonnie in Looking Glass Station, 'til Mikhail, obeying Ben, performed their elimination.

H is Hurley Reyes, a big helpful man, played cursed numbers, got rich, drives an old Dharma van.

J's Sayid Jirrah, who knew how to torture, but that's in his past, he just kills in the future.

K's bilingual Kwons, there's unfaithful wife Sun, forgiving fisherman Jin and their daughter Ji Yeon.

And K's for Kate Austen who manipulates men, and winds up with Aaron, we don't know how or when.

And K's Karl, Alex's friend from room 23, his water bottle sprung a leak, and then so did he.

L's for John Locke, unable to commit patricide, who conned James Ford into performing the homocide.

L's also for Libby, of whom we know nut- tin'; she kinda liked Hurley, got shot in the gut.

M is Michael, some really bad things were his fault, but you have to admit that he loved his son Wa-a-alt!

and M's Miles Straume who's a would be ghostbuster, with psychic abilities and a noisemaking dustbuster.

N's for Nikki and Paulo who were there all along, and died in a way that was horribly wrong.

P's Charlie Pace, Desmond forsaw his doom, ex-junkie turned hero who drowned in a room.

P's for Pilot Seth Norris, whose cameo brief ended with him dangling up in a tree like a leaf.

R's for cured Rose who had faith that her husband Bernard was somehow alive and somewhere on the Island.

And R's Danielle Rouseau, crazed French fighter, not lover, who was shot, died, and was buried beneath shallow cover.

S is for Sawyer, who was shot by an Other, he got better, caught and executed the mother-.

S's also for Shannon, man that bitch was hot, did that Iraqi guy (and her brother!) and then she got shot.

S's Dr. Jack Shephard, who'd rather be drinking, but they made him their leader - man, what were they thinking?

I didn't mind last week's episode (I'm looking forward to this one's much more, but I think that if it hadn't interrupted some other brilliant story lines, it would've stood alone as an ok episode.

I hope that this week, Jack doesn't laugh at something that isn't funny (or supposed to be funny). That's my new drinking game for Lost. Somebody says something to Jack and he pisses his pants laughing at it for no reason.
Xippy - about that

It's Thursday. I woke up in the middle of the night, so of course I started thinking aobut LOST. And in the ptevious talkback Redfishbluefish had mentioned Edward Gorey's Gashleycrumb Tinies. Which is a wonderful poem, an alphabetical list of children and the ways they died, delightfully illustrated.

So I started doing a LOST version in my head and once I had about a half dozen I thought I should get up and write it down.

Totally from memory, so I may have missed a few important characters. And a couple of those "rhymes" were pretty awful, I know. but I got a quadruple post out of it - I stuck it up at the Room 23 blog, in the old talkback before I noticed the new one had started, here and in my Napoleon_Park Yahoo! group.

I'm dying as fast as I can (2 points to the Trekkie who recognizes that quote) and writing weird stuff is what I do while I'm waiting. That's what that is.

Cabin Fever = This year's Man Behind the Curtain

This episode has to kick ass! SPOLIER...It has Jacob's cabin, dead Christian Shepard, Degroots..whose been dead for 12 years, Sayid and Desmond raising hell on the freighter. Oh and the return of Richard.

This has to be good. I'm going out on a limb and proclaiming 3rd best episode of the season, right behind TSOTTC (4.9) and The Constant (4.5). Slightly better than TBOTE (4.1)

So the scene with Keamy on the boat, how does this take place?

A) He returns to the boat with his squad

B) The events on the boat are taking place before him and his squad left (Actually I don't think that is possible)

Or C) He is both on the boat and the island at the same time a la Doc Ray

Also, the return of Richard, will we only see him in flashback form or do we get to see what's up with the temple and the other Others?

And for those of you doubting a John Locke episode...think of Walkabout and The Man from Talahasse (?). Tonights has to be as good as those.

I'm not totally sure why but I absolutley loved TBOTE. I actually would even (dare I say this) rate it above The Constant.

I loved The Constant but it didn't have as much of the mythology stuff in it.

There was something special about TBOTE and also TSOTOC. I guess being the first episode back after a hiatus makes it seem a lot better. But TBOTE had ghost charlie, Abadonon (?), Jacob/ Christian, and so much more.

for some reason that episode really had a huge impact on me.

the more i want them not to resolve everything. I want them to give us a more or less definite clue of what was going on. But i also want them to end it on an open note. I don't think Angel was a very good series. But 'Not to fade away' was one of the best series finales ever. Why you may ask? Because it kept you wondering what was going to come. Think about it. LOST is all about mystery and questions. If they end it with an resolving happy ending that explains everything you may feel relieved, but the feeling will fade very soon. If they will keep it slightly open, it will stick with you for years after. I think on the long run thats more forfilling.

Xiphos - regarding "dying"
by Napoleon Park

Specific answer to a question; non-Trekkies can ignore this.

On one of the spin-offs, DS9 I think, a Klingon General, named Gowron I think, was reunited with his estranged wife. she greeted him with a condescending and disapproving "Still alive, I see." to which he apologetically replied "I'm dying as fast as I can."

Not familiar with the McClinton milieu, but it sounds like a good song title.

regarding my formula
by Napoleon Park
May 8th, 2008
01:35:49 PM
Again, this responds to a couple of specific "what's he on?" type questions that I'm treating as if they weren't rhetorical quips.

In 1976 I flipped a bike off a short cliff and landed back first on a watermelon sized rock, so I have recurring back trouble. I'm also disabled with an open surgical wound because I can't afford skin grafts.

I smoked a lot in the '70s but it's out of my price range now - and it wrecked my lungs.

Sometimes Ibuprofin and whatever the sleep aid in PM pain relievers help me rest. I take aspirin for the heart benefits, acetominophen and Doans pills for the back, I shoot insulin for the diabetes and drop Lisinopril for a heart condition. I'm supposed to avoid caffeine but a couple cups of coffee enhance my creativity. I try not to overdo any one thing. Sometimes a candy bar or a few cough drops supplies a nice sugar buzz.

Sleep deprivation helps, too. I got four hours of sleep, woke up and wrote "Gashleycrumb LOSTIES," then went back to bed.

I only drink alcohol a couple times a year - too many alcoholics in the family tree.

So it's not exactly a Gonzo lifestyle. A couple of pills to dull the pain and a passion for a great TV show to supply the inspiration.

For the record, I endorse boycotting imported drugs, but those lucky folks in Hawaii have the best domestic homegrown in the country.

SkyGothFamEve is taking to you like Aaron to Jack (before he called him unwanted and a son of a bitch) and wants yo uto read him a nice beddy bye story! C'mon little shaver! Nap doesn't have time for you right now - eat your veggies and get ready for Lost tonight.

Just kick the little brat's Millenium Falcon across the room Napoleon and tell him you are only putting up with him to scrog his momma.

Better than the constant, and stands among the best of the series. That smoke monster attacking the mercs? Amazing. The execution of Alex? shocking. The confrontation of Ben and Charles? perfect. That was one of those moments that Lost fans will remember when all is said and done. I can't think of another show on tv that does it as well as Lost does. I mean, honestly.

regarding the "who kills Keamy?" poll at Room 23
by Napoleon Park
May 8th, 2008
06:50:15 PM
I know what I WANT to see happen.

In a running battle between the Losties and the Frighter Fighters, the mercs, in spite of heavier firepower and a sharpshooter, go down one by one. Under fire, Keamy retreats into the jungle and steps into one of Danielle's old trip wire net traps that hoists him into the air and slaps him against a tree. Benjamin Linus appears with a gun and aims as Keamy saws at the net with his combat knife.

At the last moment Benjamin changes his aim and instead of a skull-centered kill shot he puts a slug through Keamy's hand, forcing him to drop the knife. Then Benjamin, with the faintest hint of a smile, backs away, lets out a sharp whistle, pivots and runs as black smoke begins to emerge from the underbrush. Keamy's screams of agony can be heard in the distance for most of the rest of the show. In the final moments of the episode (though not the final scene) we see the camera pan through the jungle and give us a brief glimpse of a ragged net hanging from a tree holding a skeleton covered in shredded meat.

That's how I'd write it

If you connect using a client, it's VERY important to note that AICN on the chat page printed the WRONG ADDRESS for the network. It's not www.chat-solutions it's
irc.chat-solutions
Pretty surprising that the error has been there for SO long. No wonder everyone uses the java client!!

So here's the real info.

Either use the java client and when connected type /join #room23

OR

Grab a client.(program to connect to IRC) and when it asks for server, or if you "add new server" be sure to use irc.chat-solutions.org instead of www.

port 6667

Then when you're connected with your client, type /join #room23 . Be sure to put a space between /join and #room23 . Then you're in the club! Hope to see you all in there. I'll probably need someone to be an OP when I'm not around. Let me know if you want OPS. I want at least 4. But more than that is too many cooks. Just remember to OP GENTLY. Kick and ban only when absolutely necessary , not when you disagree with people. Other than that, the rules are up to you guys. Just let me know the way you want things to be and I'll comply.

Locke's Story
by Guy Who Got A Headache And Accidentally Saves The World
May 8th, 2008
10:07:40 PM
I think Locke's story is going to be about whether he can be a better "chosen one" of the island than Ben. Ben we've seen, no longer "dreams," and gets sick. He told Michael on the boat that he wasn't as bad as Widmore, because he wouldn't kill innocents in their war. But now we now he wants to kill Penelope. So I think Locke will either succeed as a better leader unlike Ben, like tonight where he didn't manipulate Hurley, and he'll become the "superhero" who will "save every one" like he's tried to become before, like with the hatch. Or he'll ultimately fail, go over to Widmore's side, and then maybe Ben will redeem himself somehow, not kill Penelope, and take out Locke again. Though I think that Ben will stay "bad," and once Widmore is taken care of we'll realize Ben is actually far worse than Widmore was somehow. And Locke will have to save the day. I really hope Locke doesn't go bad anyway, but I could see it happening.

Move the freaking island? I know there is a theory out there that has the island moving around the globe, and through time.

That picture on kid Locke's wall was him laying on the beach next to the plane crash, and Richard knew it. Richard probably went back in time and conditioned Locke to follow the same path he originally did, albeit to a like better result.

I knew you still had a little bit of the old stuff in ya. (Which is kind of a bummer considering the show is so far removed from the original tone it once had, IMHO.) Pretty cool episode though...seems that whenever they concentrate on Locke, the show works on all cylinders. Thoughts...

Claire dead? Maybe so.

Hurley and Ben sharing a candy bar = Priceless.

Keamy vs. Sawyer? I can totally see that happening. (***SPOILER*** - Isn't Sawyer supposed to die this season?)

No Jacob...but Christian and Clair. Hmmm. And it looks like Alpert and Abbadon have had their eyes on Locke for quite sometime. Theory: Alpert (and possible Abbadon) are part of Widemore's original Island group. And it's hard to say but after the last two weeks, it looks like Ben is now completely flummoxed.

One thing I don't get
by Guy Who Got A Headache And Accidentally Saves The World

Locke chose the knife over the book of laws and that disappointed Richard, BUT, when Locke saved Ecko, the Island spoke to Locke through Ecko and told him "You are a hunter John," like it was a good thing. So what does the island want from him? Damn, no wonder he gets frustrated. I hate when Locke doesn't have a clear purpose or goal, quit fucking with him island, is he your chosen one or not? And bad guy Abaddon is responsible for him going on the walkabout, thereby even GETTING to the island in the first place!? DONT FALTER LOCKE

I'm thinking Widmore and Ben are just replaying a conflict that's been played many times, some Dark Tower cycle shit here, that's why there was that book that said where Ben would be going, and that's why they just can't kill each other out right. They're just playing a "game." And there was some sort of balance kept at one time, but now rules are being broken? Hell I don't know.

It's not so much about it being a positive or a negative. It's more about how much you like/dislike the "answers" they give you as they continue to move along the story and its mysteries. If you had told me at the end of Season 1 that this is where we would be in Season 4, I would have asked, "Are we talking about the same show?!"

That's all really.

we knew that things moved quicker outside the island, but isn't this the reverse? That things happened on the island BEFORE they happened outside of it?

And god, I love Locke's story. Like he always seems so close to greatness and continually fucks it up. Started when he was a kid. I wonder if there was a polar bear in that 'Mystery Tales' comic?

Locke's mother was listening to Buddy Holly's "Every Day" which was released n 1957, then ran outside, was hit by a car, and at the hospital had her child delivered prematurely. So John Locke was born in 1957 or later.

Actor Terry O'Quinn, who plays John Locke, was born in 1952.

So Locke was born early five years late. Wrap your time traveling heads around that.

Island talking through the dead
by Charlie Murphy
May 9th, 2008
12:35:50 AM
there's a neat theory online that the "ghosts" people see on the island aren't really ghosts, per se. they're dead, but because time operates so differently off the island, the dead become "echos" that people can see. who knows if that theory is at all correct, but it does seems plausible that claire is dead. i was actually expecting colonel daniels-- er, abaddon to be in the cabin before i realized the hour was almost over and john terry hadn't appeared. tell me it wasn't my imagination that christian looked way OLDER than we've see him before. i do believe that little john drew smokey, and i really, i mean REALLY, want to know what's up with abaddon and richard. also, the promos aired on ctv in canada show the oceanic six arriving home in the finale (not sure what abc went with) so that looks fantastic. I very much agree with whoever wrote that the show has changed radically from the first season, but in the best ways possible.

richard has been looking for people the "island" wants for a while, but it was widmore that sent him for some reason? I didnt take it as richard and abbadon working together, just that richard had given up after the life of fuck-ups that locke led. did richard alays exist in '57 or did he jump back in time from the island?the time moves faster on the island,by about a day and a half almost 2, according to this episode. so it appears that if your body is on the island, you can exist, either unstuck in time or as a ghost, and yes claire is dead. looks like team jack will be swooping in to save the day, letting lock time-jump the island, then returning in time to catch a ride from sayid, who will be arriving much later then he thinks....any thoughts?

Who knew John Locke was such a nonconformist.

I've mentioned here a couple of times that that a man who can't walk wanting to go on a walkabout seemed a little bit crazy. Maybe a little bit less crazy now that we know it wasn't his own idea.

Meant to be a man of science, he becomes a man of faith. Told the knife isn't for him he gets a suitcase full, learns to use and throw them and ultimately murders a woman with one.

I did wince a bit and feel pandered to when they showed us the oriigin of "never tell me what i can't do" but I get that they were trying to reconnect with the "cool" Locke from season one, so it worked.

Too bad his mom wasn't listening to "He's A Rebel" the night he was born, but he would have had to have been born in 1962 for that to have happened. Terry O'Quinn actually looks a little older than most 56 year olds, so even with the fake hair I don't think he could pass for 45.

Other than reading Bishop's Fanny Hall and Mike Grell's Jon Sable I never got into weapons porn. I was thinking of the Man from U.N.C.L.E. toy gun I had as a kid. That had an ammo 'clip' for the caps.

And don't break down the difference between a weapon, a pistol and a gun for me, sir. It was called "The U.N.C.L.E. gun."

Not Powder or or ash in the vile. It was simply earth from the island or sand more specifically. The Island belongs to Locke and he is chosen to protect it.

That was an interesting seen. To me, John knew that the knife wasn't his, he just wanted it to be. We know that he do like his knives.

Alpert gave up too quickly, not much of a child psychologist I guess.

Man From U.N.C.L.E. toy gun
by Napoleon Park
May 9th, 2008

It broke down to a stand-alone pistol with a clip in the butt.

Had separate removable clip-on shoulder stock, barrel extension with hand grip and silencer, and telescopic sight.

Very similar to the break down sniper weapon 007 used in "From Russia With Love".

Must have been a double wide 'clip' on the show since it could be switched from conventional rounds to "sleeper" tranquilizer darts.

The toy only fired caps, and the silencer didn't silence them. I still have it, though the guts are rusted out. I don't have the triangular yellow U.N.C.L.E. badge the agents wore in their headquarters, though.

I also had the Fanner Fifty, the Rifleman rifle, a morter launcher and two different types of hand grenades. Yeah, being a kid in the pre-anti-war early sixties was awesome.

Also, the missile launchers from the Marx Cape Canaveral play set could be used and carried as guns, firing rubber tipped missiles. Man, my friends and I sure spent a lot of time killing each other.

I can admit when I'm uninformed about something. I thought pistols - automatic handguns, not revolvers - had clips and larger weapons like rifles and machine guns had magazines.

What would be the technical dividing line there?

Or do I just have it backwards? I think I've seen automatic weapons with something called "a banana clip" in reference to the curved shape.

I think it deserves further review.

and Claire was creepy. If she is sweet of cool when she was alive, why would she get all creepy and baby apathetic if she snuffed it? (Not too creepy for shagging but I would not sleep in the same house as her)

Maybe Kate would be a better mom than creepy dead Claire who leaves babies in trees.

and.. would Ben have had second thoughts about John's information if he knew that john didn't actually talk to Jacob? I liked the episode but that bit reminded me of the film Contact, where Jodie Foster's dead Dad serves as the face of the aliens, bogus.

...though part of it had me doing that "waves hand over head motion" gesture.

Anyway, if that curved magazine is sometimes called a banana clip, you can see why the civilians get confused.

I saw an awesome video 'clip' the other day, not sure where, the title was 'speed loader'. A man held an automatic pistol in a proper two handed grip. He slapped his bottom hand down to his waistband and grapped a spare magazine as he hit eject and dropped the empty magazine from the pistol, then brought his hand up, slipped the magazine in place and was good to go with a two handed grip in about a second. Though exact time was hard to judge since it was shown in slow motion.

And I thought a speed loader was something else too, from the old Dirty Harry movies, but that's what the video was called.

Great comic, cool show. Grell was another one of those guys that started out wanting to be Neal Adams Junior and eventually got around to doing his own thing. About fifty issues in on Sable, when he started doing single panel two page spreads of a couple zebras on the veldt I thought he was kinda phoning it in. But if he ran out of steam on that title, Green Arrow: the Longbow Hunters was a heck of a comeback.

I was never a Warlord fan, but breaking in to comics by creating and drawing fifty issues of a series that goes on for another 83 after he left, that's pretty impressive.

Really, I think that the Claire being dead thing is a little too easy. It's been telegraphed, and the only thing that the writers of Lost have ever telegraphed beforehand was the return of Michael... everything else has been them leading you down a path, then slapping the shit out of you and saying, "did you really think THAT is where we were going??!?!?"

Come to think of it, the writers of Lost remind me of Ben quite a bit.

They Moved the Island already, Widmore flashforward
by G100
May 9th, 2008
03:56:40 AM
Ben's encounter with Widmore and Ben's utter certainty that Widmore wouldn't find the Island tells me that they do of course succeed in "moving" the Island.

Then again how do you move something that has no real fixed point or Location ? The "Zone" around the Island of Temporal flux ensures no casual ingress is permitted so moving the island may be some form of manipulating (Bending?)the Temporal Zone that shields it.

The Volcano, the Temple or perhaps another Dharma station may be the candidates for where such a movement has to occur. As for who does the moving, surely Locke ?

What ISN'T clear though is that although Moving the Island may eliminate a future Widmore expedition or re-inforcement how they will deal with Keamy, already on the Island and Weapons Heavy as well as wielding his strange threatening armband, is another matter.

Course Jack will follow like a spud but it looks like Smokey will be needed and needs to be more effective this time around. (I hope for some freaky Island or Dharma countermeasure we haven't yet seen and not another Black Rock Explosive type battle.
