1 and 3 were good. 1 was a little confusing, but only because it was meticulously well structured and you had to keep up with an intelligently designed film. 3 was a fun espionage action thriller with memorable sequences. 2 was just a bad james bond knockoff more reminiscent of American Ninja 2 than anything else.

which leads me to think that if they made a sequel to number 2 (the worst) and it was better, than why the hell not make a sequel to 3.

At least Tom Cruise is still making movies. Big starring role action films, AND small cheap ones. AND appearing in Ben Stiller comedies.... give the guy that much.

I think both Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise are good examples of how to keep the quality of your work high.

I like this franchise a lot. Sure Tom Cruise may be off his cracker sometimes but he is still a great actor and he plays Ethan Hunt well...but the coolest thing about this series is that it is like a showcase of directing styles and they should keep it going. MI:1 was Brian DePalma's layers on top of layers kind of plot with intensity acting and it was good at it. MI:2 was John Woo's action movie in the key of an operatic ballet tragedy and it was good at that. MI:3 was J.J. Abrams mystery and suspense heavy characterization driven with great action set-pieces style and it was good at that. So I say get a different stle director and let us have another great movie. I would like that they get David Finch who was supposed to do part 3 back like 6 years ago and do a good dark and nihlistic installment but I am sure he's moved on from the idea.....so who do you guys think would be a good directoral choice for this? I am thinking maybe michael mann who would throw some real style and atmosphere into it like he handled Cruise in Collateral.
David Fincher ....sorry

Ethan Hunt is assigned to infiltrate a Rogue Terrorist group. His mission if he chooses, is to bring down scientology. where he comes face to face with his most diabolical nemesis yet... JOHN TRAVOLTA! totally different topic but..... i think Hugh Grant would make an awesome villian if that next austin powers movie really does come around.

M:I-3 was and is the best of the three... in every way. It escalates nicely, it shows a personal side to Mr Hunt, the bridge sequence (though ripping the hell off of True Lies) is fucking cool.... the Vatican sequence was very cool... including the spaces of skin where Maggie Qs dress wasn't. Philip Seymour Hoffman sucked his bottom lip in and phoned in a performance which was still way fucking cooler than any Mission Impossible movie villian has any right to be (just compare with the 'bad' guy in LFDH!). On top of that you get Morpheus and Marcellus Wallace, Simon Pegg and Billy Crudup.

In the realm of action thrillers (and please remember that) which have been made in the last 10 years, M:I-3 was a fucking masterpiece.

Cruise hijacked MI for his cash cow;
by wowsah156

04:44:45 AM
The whole point of Mission Impossible was that the MI team were ALL expendable. This meant that the MI team had "high staff turnover". Thats why the first one was the best poor Emilio and Kirstin didnt deserve to die but because of the nature of MI missions thats the price. Wagner and Cruise have forgotten that and reduced Mission Impossible to a Charlies Angels with penis's. If Cruise wants to keep making good money from MI then he needs to allow his character to die in the first 5 mins of VI and allow new faces to come in and take over, to keep it fresh. I never went to see MI3 because MI 2 became the Tom Cruise show. No MI is about faceless people doing the impossible. Not Tom Cruise!!

known as Cruise. Make it a team movie. I have to admit that one of my favorite parts of 3 was when they were all working in the Vatican. Each actor got a chance to shine. Loved the team effort and dynamic. You don't need Cruise to continue the series. Get the right cast and writer(s) and it will succeed.

You have ten seconds to read this post before it self destructs.

by SpencerTrilby
May 7th, 2008
06:37:07 AM
The first act was kinda cool and promising, and the opening scene was pretty cleverly thought... but after the Vatican I think it went downhill so badly it made me regret John Woo. The script's flaws started to show, the "personal" side of Ethan Hunt is totally cliché and uninteresting, and the action poorly shot.

Not to mention the complete travesty that was the third act, with his shitty chase scenes in place of the badass heist sequence Abrams and his scribes were probably too lazy to write, showing us instead one of the lamest "Team America" moments ever in a mainstream action flick (the van scene between Maggie Q and JRM was laughable - totally unforgivable waste of screen time).

and will not see it. MI3 wasn't bad, but none of the MI movies have shaken my world. I didn't see the TC Oprah episode, but I caught a couple commercials for it, and even that alone reminded me how detached both Cruise and Oprah are from the rest of the universe. In a 20 second commercial alone, they had clips of Tom's friends calling in to Oprah to kiss Tom's ass for 25 years of "work." Um, yeah, like no one else in the world has ever worked for 25 years. And both Cruise and Holmes act like their daughter is a golden child, and no one else has ever had children before. And the media are no help, the way they dote over that kid, who will surely grow up deranged.

I never liked Cruise as an actor, even before he revealed how crazy he was to the rest of the world, but I think his Lestat was surprisingly good in Interview. He's had one or two roles that impressed me but the vast majority of his work is overacting horseshit. The problem is, he's actually in a good number of quality films and he's always the worst part about them.

Following his crusade for Scientology and the inherent message behind his pathetic Oprah pageant ("I'm not gay!"), Cruise's subsequent LIONS/LAMBS movie died a horrible death at the boxoffice. And it's equally unprofitable on DVD. The public is tired of this cabana boy (every time the media outted Cruise, he'd hook-up with a hotty. Pathetic. He should have just come out of the closet and retained his dignity). Cruise's latest, VALKYRIE, has been bumped from its original release date: Cruise's German accent has been described as "hilarious" (will have to be dubbed) and the entire film has been described as "a mess." Now he's trying to make amends with the public/media? Trust me, nobody is buying his horseshit.

to CIA, what did the first MI have? Nothing. The only other bright spot was watching Emilio Estevez die early. MI2 was far worse, more like a parody of an action movie than anything else, bogged down with the Woo slo-mo. MI3 was the best of the bunch. Over the top and a little silly, but a great action movie that never got tired, and the soundtrack was a perfect fit.

They should get J.J. Abrams to direct in again. He did a great job with the third one.
The Rabbit's Foot was a maguffin, and that's

all you really need to know. It's like the case in Ronin. Unless the maguffin IS the movie, you don't need to waste 15 min. of screen time describing how deadly / powerful the maguffin is. If we're sold on the idea that the major players in the story want it desperately, that's enough. For me, at least.

Maguffin that is true, but in order to be sold on the movie, I wanted to know what the Foot was. Oh well. In the end MI-3 was hrrible for me, so it really makes no difference.

Just saw Lions for Lambs, and it wasn't half bad. They do need to look at some old M:I TV episodes and get back the flavor of the series - a true group spy effort thing and not just The Further Adventures of Ethan Hunt.

Make MI an ensemble movie again, with the good guys outwitting the bad guys. No more over-the-top action scenes. Put a younger Phelps at the helm. I repeat, that character was NEVER a traitor. Oh yeah, and add MacMuffins. Lots and lots of MacMuffins.

AND IT'S GOOD THAT IT SINKS. The first was great. The second was lame. THE THIRD WAS PHENOMENAL. If there is a fourth with that pace, that tension and that heart of the third, then we have a deal.

Ever since it became clear just how much of a brainwashed shill for an evil cult, I'll ONLY see his films when they're a weekly rental at the vidstore. No money goes back to him or his greedy cult that way.

MI:3 was great, I have no problem with seeing another installment of the the MI Series. Cruise is great and the movies have been great in their own way. I can't join the hate brigade on this one.
