...what a near miss that was!

I don't know--this looks a bit fakey/Photoshoppy to me--I wonder if it's a mockup or trial run.

It would be pretty hideous, but would fit with the increasingly stark atmosphere that Nolan's building. It would actually make the Joker look mild in comparison!

Something about that mouth area reminds me of Jonah Hex--anyone else remember?

Come on people. Do you think this is real? I mean, Aaron Eckhart is a dedicated actor, but I seriously doubt he'd let them melt the flesh from his face. He really wouldn't be able to get any other parts if they really spilled acid all over half his face. And talk about infections.

It's not an actual screengrab from movie or an actual candid pic of Aaron Eckhart. It's a concept art and this is close to how it'll end up since they are going with this. If you haven't read "The Long Halloween", you should see how two-face looks in that comic for they are going with that design.

didn't he look pretty nonchalant in the trailer in the one quick shot of him in the taxi where his face looked to be burnt on the opposite side? also, if the burn came from that pile of gasoline, there's no way it could do that serious damage to just one side of the face, without even singing his hair on the opposite side...

someone find the aaron Eckhart pic that the photoshopper used to make this and we can put it to rest...

One of my best friend's uncles works on the production team and he said straight up that this is what Two Face is going to look like in the film. This was leaked and WB is trying really hard to get them off the internet, so save this picture while you can because it won't be here much longer. Let me repeat now, this is NOT photoshopped, this is REALLY from the movie.
Definitely Photoshopped.

But that doesn't mean it's not a Photoshop image done for a concept sketch or something.

Coming from a graphic designer this is really nice looking, so nice that it's hard to think this was an amateur job for a hoax.

Count me as skeptical but hopeful.

I still like his classic look int he comic a bit more. I eman yay that a director is going allt he way and whatnot but it's still based on an established character and I can practically see Nolan behind hte scenes saying "Oh look at how gross I can make this! Aren't yous o grossed out at how far I went??!!" It all just seems a bit....much. I don't mean I needed him to have purple skin on the burned part or anything like that, but going outright skeletal seems more silly than it does realistic.

Two-Face would be cooler as Three-Quarter Face
by microwavable?
May 5th, 2008
06:37:49 PM
i always thought the concept of Two-Face was a little unlikely. how EXACTLY half of his face was burned, perfectly down the middle. obviously, it made for some very cinematic drawings and such. but given Nolan's take on the Joker, i figured Two-Face would have a tuff of burned scalp and a nasty chunk missing from a third of his face. this mockup looks realistic, but still improbable.

IF IT'S A FAKE
by BurgerTime
May 5th, 2008
06:40:39 PM
It's damned well done. There's been some serious time spent on it.

But here's why I think it's bullshit:

1. The neck. Not sure what it is about it but it doesn't look right. Like the shadows are artificial, and the gradient between the make-up of Two Face and the plain face of Harvey Dent is too perfect.

2. The graininess. As someone who works in TV and uses tools like Photoshop and Combustion a lot, graininess is something you add to finished footage, not only to give it a grittier look, but to cover up subtle details like photoshop-looking shadows and touch-ups.

So my ultimate verdict: FAKER THAN KENNEY ROGER'S NEW FACE

id say
by teddy_duchamp
May 5th, 2008
06:40:42 PM
it's probably a pre-production image, a make up test or photoshop mock up. i think its pretty close to what we'll get in TDK. and seeing the toy link that yackback posted pretty much confirmed it, they are almost identically in style. Cant wait to see this movie, do you think the joker is the one who scars dent though? what do you all reckon?

May 5th, 2008
06:42:34 PM
then won't he have to look this disgusting throughout the entire next movie? no way they're gonna let that happen, it's too gross and realistic.

just because WB doesn't want this out there, doesn't mean it's real. it might just be that they don't want a seriously disgusting image out there being posted as an actual grab from the movie. it's PG-13, they don't want to scare away anyone, after all.

and please stop with this shit: "my dentist's friend's uncles' dog groomer's sister works at the building next to the guy who drives Aaron Eckhart's personal assistant's rich aunt to the mall, and he says that he heard from a guy about this, and it's real."

Two-face is CG
by shagg187
May 5th, 2008
06:47:22 PM
This is my last talkback for this post. CG Artists need concept art. Concept Art helps him bring the CG to life for they have something to visualize. CG Artists NEED Concept artists and vice versa. That said, this is a concept art that will be used for the final CG. THAT SAID, Two-face is a mixture of CG and actual makeup.
The action figure can't be accurate yackbacker
by IndustryKiller!
May 5th, 2008
06:49:44 PM
Although I sort of wish it was if I had to compare the two. But int eh action figure his nose is almost completely intact and int eh trailer there is clearly burning at the edge of the nose. So there you go. This isn't terrible but the exposed muscles and bone is kinda eh. Just because it worked on print in The long Halloween doesn't mean it works on screen. But htat's just my opinion. I wish they had gone for something a bit cooler looking than just flat out grotesque. maybe in motion it will be better. It looks like they're gonna have to use CG to get this effect though, and thatll be unfortunate.

But damn if I don't have faith that Nolan is going to turn this fucker into gold. The tone is awesome, from the trailers anyways, and I can definitely see this one being the "Empire Strikes Back" of this trilogy...if it is a trilogy, if you ask me they could make ten of them if they are of the quality of the first two. Two bad about Ledger for alot of reasons, but as far as this topic, really too bad he won't be able to get the praise he deserves for this role.

Are you trying to infer that the democratically elected officials of the United States are all two-faced and must not be trusted? Must you drag out that conspiracy??? - this is probably the concept art for two-face. (which is why WB would still want it taken down) this isnt real, but the direction they were headed.

-The toy, trailer, concept art all have the symmetry of the scar a little different, so they probably played around with a few different ideas.

-yeah it looks gruesome, but no worse than the mummy, and those are kids movies.

-the dark knight is going to be awesome.

Two-Face is meant to be pittied and feared at the same time. Because when you look at his face you see 2 different men. The man he used to be and the man he has become. Even in the comic books, Two Face is easy to feel sympathy for because he used to be a good man but then he got fuckin owned and he indulged in his darker side. He's a very unique, complex villain, and he was also a good friend of Bruce Wayne and they both believed that the city deserved absolute justice.

He looks too much like a zombie or, like Mirajeff said, Darkman. It's grotesque for the sake of grotesque. I'd much rather something that allowed him to be a bit more expressive and look kinda evil and crazy rather than just dead. The other side of Harvey Dent is a madman, not simply just a lack of good. But I doubt most of the talkbackers on this site could tell the difference or care. With Christopher Nolan involved you could make his head half a Care Bear and everyone would be proclaiming brilliance.

Man, this is so much better than the cartoon Two-Face we got in BATMAN FOREVER. Nolan is taking the big-screen BATMAN mythos to whole new levels. He's not afraid to take chances, and he knows that over-the-top cartoony crap is not what the fans want. This is at the same time scary and DAMN impressive.

"TDK is going to be a comics film for adults." Well? Yep. Iron Man is also good for adults. My point is. compare what we are getting from Nolan and Favreau to... Raimi. Yeah. I like Raimi, but this is a different league, friends. Nolan is polished goods. DC and Warner can rest easy and let the director have full freedom.

WB asking someone to take it down isn't confirmation that this is what Two-Face will look like. It's just confirmation that WB owns the image.

I usually don't weigh in on these things, but I'm gonna say that's an early concept image. "Let's take it to the extreme and dial it back from there" kinda thing.

I say this for a few reasons. Execution of this design would take a lot of work in post. Does that extra work really bring all that much to the character that would have been lacking in a more practical design? Doubt it. Is the point of Two-Faces design to make a good portion of the audience vomit? Doubt it. I just think beyond the initial "wow" factor this design would just be distracting.

I could be wrong though. I'm not that bright.

The inside word is that Dent's scarring is pretty graphic and horrific looking -- and that it is partially CG in close-up shots. So it's not just a cheesy make-up appliance glued to Eckhart's face.
According to Eckhart
by ddschneider1972
May 5th, 2008
08:00:59 PM
I'm goinf with concept art, but in yesterdays LA times: "Eckhart says director Christopher Nolan “is going way farther than people think” with Two-Face...."I can tell you that, basically, when you look at Two-Face, you should get sick to your stomach. Being the guy under all that, well, that was a lot of fun for me. It's like you would feel if you met someone whose face had pretty much been ripped off or burned off with acid. I can't talk about it beyond that because I don't want to give away too much of the plans by Chris."
WHY this could be very real (WARNING! Possible SPOILER)...
by Big Dumb Ape
May 5th, 2008
08:05:33 PM
YESTERDAY the LA TIMES put up a new entertainment article online where they interview Aaron Eckhart. The article says (quote)...

The trailers for "The Dark Knight" have shown quite a bit of Heath Ledger's scabbier, surlier reinvention of the Joker, but the producers have been keeping the film's other Batman bad guy, Two-Face, under wraps. "That's right, people don't really know yet," actor Aaron Eckhart said with grin. "I can tell you that, basically, when you look at Two-Face, you should get sick to your stomach. Being the guy under all that, well, that was a lot of fun for me. It's like you would feel if you met someone whose face had pretty much been ripped off or burned off with acid. I can't talk about it beyond that because I don't want to give away too much of the plans by Chris."

The article then goes on to note something rather interesting. What the actual HEART and FOUNDATION of this film REALLY is going to be...

The death of Ledger and the word of his incendiary performance have made him the natural focus of early media coverage of "The Dark Knight." But Nolan told The Times this year that the foundation of the film is the tale and transformation of Eckhart's character, Harvey Dent, from a crusading Gotham City prosecutor to Harvey Two-Face, a maniac whose face is ravaged on one side by a horrible injury.

In regards to the debate over this leaked still, and if it is a photoshop job or not, we might want to take THIS to heart. The article then adds...

Eckhart won't discuss that, but he did say that the wounds are structurally deeper than in the comics: "There are fans on the Internet who have done artist's versions of what they think it will look like, and I can tell you this: They're thinking small; Chris is going way farther than people think."

So reading all that, it's possible that this really IS an actual production still, and it would explain why Warner Bros is now freaking out and frantically scrambling to have sites pull it down because they didn't want anyone to see Two-Face until the actual film was released -- in other words, they were saving the shock of "what" he looked like as an actual in-film surprise. Also, with all the heavy promotion on Ledger and the Joker, it's possible that Nolan DIDN'T want to tip his hand to just HOW MUCH Two-Face is actually going to be in this thing or how big a role he will play. In particular "who" is actually the one hunting down the Joker in this movie (SPOILER WARNING)...

There were plenty of name actors lined up hoping to get the role of Two-Face, but in the end Nolan went with Eckhart because of his "complexity and this aura he has of a good man pushed too far," Nolan said. Two-Face in the film is more of a vigilante hunting down the Joker than he is a criminal, as he has most often been portrayed in the comics. His trademark is flipping a two-headed coin, one side defaced, the other pristine, and letting its landing determine his actions, often in situations where he has a gun to someone's head. "The difference between Batman and Two-Face is how far they are willing to go and how they make their point," Eckhart said. "Otherwise, we're talking about vigilante crime-fighting. That's what Batman is all about. He has a strong sense of justice. And Harvey Dent has an extremely strong sense of justice. His fiancée is killed. He's horribly injured. But he is still true to himself. He's a crime fighter, he's not killing good people. He's not a bad guy, not purely." "My guy identifies with everybody in the movie," Eckhart said. "Really, all of it is more than an adventure tale, it's somewhat of a mirror of our times. It deals with some fundamental questions of what's going on in society. To me, this film is about how Batman feels about justice, how he takes care of the city, how he feels about the Joker when he meets him and sees what he is capable of doing. How he feels when Harvey Two-Face takes matters into his own hands. It's not simple, and it gets ugly. I think people will be surprised."

So...take it as you will. Maybe this IS real and Nolan is going balls out since he's tried to give so much of the other aspects a grounding in reality. So maybe he said, "Look, let's be realistic here. An acid burn that scars HALF your face is going to be fucking gross. So let's show people HOW gross it would be and literally WHY it would make your brain snap and turn you into a murderous criminal out for revenge."

For those who say this image goes too far for a PG-13 movie, I would agree with others who have noted that we have had things like the MUMMY movies where you saw him slowly regaining form, and during that time he had holes in his face with his tendons showing and all that kind of grossness. And the movie ratings board has long been LESS worried about blood and MORE worried if you simply say "Shit" when issuing a rating.

But secondly, and more importantly, someone above had a solid point. Even if Warner Bros. was speed dialing websites now and ordering them to take down this image, it's not necessarily a confirmation that this is the FINAL look in the film. Even CONCEPT art is fully owned and legally protected, and thus no one has the right to put that kind of stuff up EITHER. So Warner Bros saying "Take it down!" doesn't necessarily confirm one thing or another, other than it's THEIR image and they don't want it out there...

...er, Backlash? The Joker done as I see him - as Nolan seems to see him - will give small children nightmares. Now Two-Face looks like he walked out of a Romero film. This is all well and good for me, but there are going to be a ton of parents bringing under-10 kids to this thing, and I fear either the film will be too intense for them or (more likely) the kids'll be fine but parents will be upset they saw them anyway. Remember, people complained that Batman Returns was too dark, and this seems to go well beyond that.

That's just ridiculous. Why does it need to be there? Because anything "dark" and horrific is automatically cool and NEEDS to be in a Batman movie? I love this obsession with dark, a word that, at least in relation to Batman, has lost all meaning. Batman is still based on a comic book. It still has a man in a fucking Bat costume fighting men in other ridiculous costumes getting away with impossible crimes while fighting impossible odds. It's not Silence of the fucking Lambs. It should still be cool and fun for everyone. I'm not sure when you (and I'm using the royal you)say Schumacher went "over the top" that it's the over the topness that you necessarily disagree with. Because this is every bit as over the top as anything Schumacher did, it's just completely on the opposite end of the spectrum. There is a middle ground between the two. You can have your costumed heroes and villains as well deep characterization without going absolutely insane. Look at Iron Man. And while Batman definitely needs a different tone than Iron Man there is no reason whatsoever that you have to wash Shumacher out of your mouth by going the horror movie route. Not to mention that it really betrays Two-Face, who should look every bit as bad ass as he does ugly, which is really all this pic is. You know, like in the comic book, which we all love and this movie is based on. And as for realism, nolan is no more realistic than Burton. If he was everyone would have recognized that Bruce Wayne is Batman immediately and he either would have been arrested within 24 hours of that car chase or shot within seconds of confronting a warehouse full of gun toting criminals. Also Yackbacker is totally correct, if Dent looked like this he would be dead or completely incapacitated if this was the real world. Let's not get bogged down in realism here.

Look, I'm not going to argue with all the M.D.'s in this talkback, but it's kind of aimless to debate the realism of any kind of look for Two-Face. Yes, there's no way this kind of mutilation would spare his eyeball. Yes, the trauma and probable infections would very likely make it impossible for him function. But that's the character. Should it just look like extreme sun poisoning like Tommy Lee Pruneface? And as for the notion of a 3/4 Face or mild Phantom of the Opera scarring... The whole point of this character, why he's iconic, is the highly improbable way in which he's scarred, perfectly reflecting how his personality is split... wait for it... right down the middle. Personally, I'd love it if this is how Big Bad Harv looks in the finished project!

Just like Nolan's Joker needed to have a white face and red lips no matter what, Nolan's Two-Face needs to have the left side of his face seriously fucked up no matter what, no matter whether it's believable or not. If they HAVE gone with this design we won't see it as clearly as in this still, otherwise they would be hard pushed to achieve a PG-13 rating. That's why they should be going with the frakking R anyhow, especially with how horrific the acid-in-face scene SHOULD be, but that's another story. Nolan just went up further in my estimation.

What is going to make this character awesome is how they film him. The cinematography. When he is talking, anything that is twisted and shows the corrupt side of Dent should be filmed on his mangled side of his face and when he remembers something good it should show the right side of his face. Maybe even a conversation with himself between the two sides.

1. In the comic, Ras dies many, many times. He has access to something named 'The Lazarus Pit' which allows him to resurrect his body (damage his mind though, I believe) 2. It hasn't been PROVEN that Joker is the one to scar Harvey. It is pretty refreshing that the trolls ARE finally starting to dry up in the Batman threads. Batman-on-Film has a blurb on it. It's an early design from around the time the design of Joker have raggedy clothes (instead of the final purple suit). The source that leaked the accurate Joker information confirms that this Two-Face design is much closer to the final than the still unseen Joker design, but that it doesn't do it justice when you see it on camera.

Action figure versus this posted photo
by darquelyte

The photo doesn't quite match the screen grab of Harvey's face with the gun where you can see part of the scarring. That said, let's pretend that the photo is either a screen grab or a concept piece. Either way, let's assume that it's pretty darn close to the final movie version. Now, if they're gonna try to sell toys to kids, do you really think that they'd make THAT into an action figure? In honor of Cinco de Mayo I just have one thing to say, "No Way, José." They'd "tame" the toy down so that, while it's ugly and scary, it isn't "that" scary. Just a guess.

Burton's Joker shouldn't have killed Bruce Wayne's parents, but not purely because it goes against comic continuity. In most versions of the Wayne murder story, Joe Chill is killed by other criminals *before* Bruce Wayne becomes Batman. Bruce is forever denied a literal revenge against the individual who killed his parents, so he sets out to take metaphorical revenge on *all* criminals. It's very important for the character that Bruce Wayne be forever denied his catharsis. It's what keeps him in the Batman suit. Contrast with Burton's Batman. Bruce discovers, about two months after becoming Batman, that the one arch criminal terrorizing Gotham City is also the one who killed his parents. He chases the Joker up a tall building and throws him off of it, thus saving Gotham and exercising his personal demons at the same time. The convenient, ridiculously contrived plot twist helps giving false depth to the Batman-Joker relationship ("You made me." "You made me first."). But... what keeps Batman in the suit after the credits roll? Psychologically, he's already achieved everything he wanted. That's why Joker-makes-Batman sucks, in a way that Ra's-makes-Batman doesn't.

There was this afican american woman who would sing for Jesus on the corner where I used to work. She was horribly disfigured by a fire half of her head looked like a skull with no eye just a open eye socket and no nose or ear. She was very sweet but lord I still shudder when I think about looking at her face. I got the same vibe seeing this pict. Ive heard simlar horrifying stories from my cousin who works in a burn unit. And yes im too chikenshit to go and see. So I can see how this face can be plauseable. Hey its still a comic book movie. So a bit of comic book tweeking is not a bad thing one bit. But good lord! If this is the real deal there will be kids with nightmares all over after seeing this movie. And I LIKE IT! Far too long movies have been pussyfied and toned down. When was the last really scary horror movie?? Still thinking? Nolan will have balls bigger then beachballs if this thing is real and hopefully will be the end of non scary PC horror films. PG-13 rating hmm. Warner is prolly pulling every string in the book to get that rating.

It's camp classic...but you gotta admit Dr. Doom's look is perfect and way better than the new FF...11 years later....pretty sad) 19) Blade 2 (love Guillermo...hated this mess his only horrible movie) 20) Elektra (meh...) 21) Man-thing (it was a sci-fi movie with horrible story and acting but it had Man-thing's look perfect and better than 22) Blade 3 (utter shite...nuff' said)

I didn't say it was the best ever. I just said it was my favorite. I said that Val Kilmer was the best batman, adding the by far was stupid because its a toss up between him and Bale. I just chose Kilmer because he is American, and Batman is a purely an American. I did say that I knew it wasn't the best, just my favorite. I am sorry if I offended your Batman Begins is perfect universe, but lets face it Batman probably wouldn't be as popular had it not been for the Adam West show, and those first set of movies are a continuation of that. All in all its Batman we are talking about here, its almost getting to the point about arguing as too which Bond is the best. But I always felt that Batman was an American, and its kind of sad that it took a team of Brits and god himself to make a Batman movie that geeks like Rodo can tell there co-workers how much closer it is to the comic books then the original 'gay' movies are.

I don't know, really. I honestly wish that Forver and B&R had never been made. Joel Schumacher sterotyped gay people everywhere in his approach to to the subject matter. The two Burton films were good, with B89 being better, but they were both a bit campy and over the top. The problem is, back in 1989 the campiness worked for the film. It was cool, and everyone thought that Batman was the shit! No, though, we want more. We need realism. Even in fantasy, we need it to a degree. Begins was a great origin story and right now, my fave. Having said that, you ask the 9 year old inside of me which is better, and I'll say Batman 89. From what I have heard in basic buzz and "confirmed" rumors about the direction of Nolan's franchise, The Dark Knight likens to the discovery of The Hatch on LOST. This will be the Empire to a rather bland New Hope. You get my drift.

maybe we should see Batman fuel up the tumbler, which would like go for like what, 300 ft/gallon. Even with the billions that Mr. Wayne has, he'd have to start living at a normal million-dollar household in the middle of suburbia to be able to drive that thing daily. Or nightly, whatever you will. Point is, not to be an ass, but while there are many elements of realism present in Nolan's world, there are still some things, such as Harvey's wounds, there are things that call for the audience to suspend their disbelief. Seriously, that will work in favor of everyone wanting to enjoy this movie. Plus, if half of the third-one consists of Harvey getting skin grafts and falling in love with his physician/therapist who'll probably would be played by Sarah Jessica Parker, I'm gonna call "Return of Durant" on that shit.

People are saying it's not real as it doesn't match the action figure (which is not a 50/50 face split). However look at his left hand. The action figure is burnt, the trailer shows it is ok (holding the gun). This shows the action figure can not be used as an accurate source of what Two Face will look like.

If this phot is in line with what Nolan wants then i am 100% behind Nolan and the studio on this movie. I will be seeing this at least twice. Nolan has nailed the underlying current of the characters in Batmans world. And the theme that unites them all is the horror. Bats, Joker, 2Face, allhave strong horro motifs in their visulas and character. I am so well pleased with Nolan. WB keep Nolan on and complete the trilogy with Shadow of the Bat, and introduce Bats own alter ego Matches Malone, Dick Grayson (and his tragic family) and allow a sub plot with Bats hunting down Mr Zsasz who has become a prolific serial killer, all the while he is dealing with 2Face. Nolan can do no wrong. And this comes from a true Batman comic fan who knows ALL the continuity.

people keep mentioning that this is too extreme for the little ones. Your right, it is. And little ones shouldn't be in the theater for this film anyway. Blame it on the parents, not Nolan. I remember seeing a 8 year old brought in to Beowulf. Fucking Beowulf. Was it the directors fault then too? Give me a break. Parents need to step up and screen a film, get involved before dragging 8 year olds into these type of movies. IF they bring their kids, its their own damn fault.

I, for one, get sick and tired of seeing very young children at movies like this. I don't really give a shit about ratings, because I know enough about films before they come out to judge whether I should take a small child to see it. But for the uninformed, the ratings have a purpose. It's no wonder that so many kids are so fucked up. Face the facts-there are a lot of parents who need to have their brain dead faces slapped for being so stupid and irresponsible. And the argument about not having enough money to get a baby sitter doesn't wash either. If you fall under that category, then you probably ought to be spending your cash on something other than movie tickets in the first place.

And to top off the issue about taking responsibility for the films you take the impressionable to-several years ago, I went to see RED DRAGON. When I got to the theater, a van load of mentally retarded people were being taken into the movie by two guys who were there to "babysit" them, if you will. Now, what in the fuck were these idiots thinking-taking mentally handicapped people to a Hannibal Lecter flick. That had to be one of the dumbest, most irritating and irresponsible things I have ever witnessed in my many years of movie-going. And There were people in the audiance who had little (4-8 year-old) kids with them. What the hell are people thinking? It's sad as well as anger-inducing. And the people running the theater don't give a flying fuck as long as they get their cash. I guess it just more examples of the fact that in this world we live in we are surrounded by morons who don't care.

If you look on any U.S. currency coin, the particular U.S. President is turned to his left so you see the right side of their face. As a silver dollar is the symbol of Two-Face's modus operandi, it makes sense to make the right side of Dent's face the "good" side which is symbolized by the heads side of the coin, and the left side, symbolized by tails (also scored with a knife), as the "evil" side.

re: Nolan's "realism" in Batman Begins
by Rickey Henderson
May 6th, 2008
12:00:01 PM
Not sure why so many people think Nolan was going for a realistic film with the Batman franchise, because that's not the case. The tumbler jumping across rooftops? Bruce Wayne not ripping his his arm off when he saves Ras Al Ghul? Some sci fi device that vaporizes the water supply? These are not realistic plot elements. Granted, Nolan takes the time to explain how and how and why things work in the Batman universe (which elevates his movie above the others) but they're still not realistic. So Rickey's thinking this image is legit, or at the very least, a screen test. Looks pretty awesome too--that version of Two Face is straight out of "The Long Halloween."

It's a fucking shame that people are saying the movie is marketed towards adults, when I just came from Wal-Mart, and there is a whole fucking aisle of toys there with direct movie tie-ins. I know some of you basement-dwelling fanboys will go buy some of the TDK toys, but most of them will wind up in the hands of those under 10 years old, and that is exactly who this movie is being MARKETED to. Nolan doesn't have a whole lot to do with marketing, he was just told to make the movie.

And as for the whole realism/non-realism arguments? IT'S BATMAN you FUCKS. BATMAN can be REALISTIC, but BATMAN is NOT REAL. Jesus you pricks are finicky! Go watch Ghost Rider again, fags.

Unless they plan on combining his real face with cgi and not use make-up, this would be impossible to implement. A human eye could not be exposed like that for long, let alone for 14 hour days in make-up. It's possible this came from the studio as a template for what they did but they already shot everything so I don't see how this is real...

Riddler - CGI Penguin - Norm From Cheers Aunt Harriett - Angela Lansbury King Tutt - Dan Shanks Red Skull - Charlton Heston I see this as a three film arc for all the family (nana included!). be a half cg face? I've never heard once that Two-Face would be half cgi. That would never work. CGI has enough trouble looking real. They kind of pulled it off with Gollum by keeping eveything really dark. The Davy Jones thing didn't look that real but it wasn't that distracting. But, if they tried to continuously attach CGI to a human face for the end of this movie and 2 hours of the next, it would be too distracting. It has to be real make-up. I can't think of one movie where they combined a real face of a real actor with CGI and it looked real. It hasn't been attempted yet for a reason. Beowulf kink of worked because the whole thing was CG so the shininess problems and dead cow-eyes didn't stand out. There's just no way I'd be able to look at an actor with one real eye and one cow eye and take the scene seriously.

At no point will it ever be necessary for you to need to explain anything to Rickey. Read Rickey's original post again a bit closer you jackass, because you just posted the same exact thing Rickey did. No, its not a totally realistic interpretation of Batman, just much moreso compared to the Burton and Schumacher versions. Nolan is a utilitarian. He likes explaining WHY things NEED to work a certain way in the Batman universe. But Nolan's explanation of HOW things ACTUALLY work, well, that's not as realistic (tumbler jumping across rooftops, etc). And that's totally understandable because we want to see an entertaining Batman movie goddamnit. See what Rickey's getting at? Thanks for the half-cocked venemous fanboy post however, it was cute.

What a ridiculous debate. First, I've seen posts in the TDK talkbacks about whether TDK will be R or PG-13. How dumb can you get? Despite the dark tone, an R-rated Batman movie simply is not in the studio's interests. I also saw posts debating whether this film's box office will suffer because parents won't take their kids to go see it. Regardless of whether you would or would not personally take your child to see this movie, plenty of people will. If my moviegoing experiences have taught me anything, it's that people don't really care about the content of a movie if it'll just stop their kids begging and pleading to go see it, especially if it's a comic book movie. And why should they care? Not like any kids are going to be scarred for life for having seen The Dark Knight at too young an age. Are they going to have nightmares? Maybe, so what? Who doesn't have nightmares? We're talking about a movie for godssake. Anyone ever hear of a single case where someone has suffered psychological trauma for having seen a scary movie at an early age. I watched the chestburster scene from Alien when I was only 7. It scared the shit out of me, but am I suffering for it today, or even the next day after I saw it. Kids are tough. The movie will be PG-13, plenty of kids are going to see it, it'll make a shitload of money, and I doubt anyone on the planet will be worse off for it.

I'm sure your "movie going experience" means more than the experience of a parent with their INDIVIDUAL child. The problem is that parents don't see parenting as something that can be tough, and they don't stand up to their kids. They would rather give in to shut them up for 5 minutes, without thinking about the consequences down the road. My son (8 yrs old in august) is no longer allowed to be at his best friend's house, because his friend's parents let him have all of the Grand Theft Auto games, and allow him to play them. My son is physically and metally tough for his age, but not because I allow him to be exposed to that kind of garbage, but because I show him that there are things out there for kids, and things out there for adults. It's a constant struggle, but it's one people should think about before they reproduce. I am not saying that TDK is too intense for any particular child, that has to be decided on a case-by-case basis, but your attitude of ingratiating kids and not worrying about the consequences is not that well thought out.

The quality of this picture is too crappy for it to be real. From what Eckhart said in his interview, they are using latest technology to get the face right, so I am guessing they are using a little CGI... especially for the mouth and eye. Also if you look at the leaked toy, the scars are more uneven, and this looks like it is perfectly down the middle... not as clean as in the comics, but its pretty symetrical. I have to say though that this is the best of the fakes so far.

Being based on The Killing Joke, in which Joker shows Commissioner Gordon how crazy someone can go after a really bad day, DK has essentially subbed Dent for Gordon. It begins with Dent's fight against the mobsters, in which the Joker blames the Batman for. The Joker wants Batman dead, but at the same time, wants to drive that goody-two-shoes DA Dent crazy.

The Joker crashes Dent's engagemnt party to Rachel, in this EPIC scene, and ends up launching her through a window to her death. This is coparable to Barbara Gordon's rape in TKJ. The next major thing that happens is the actual attack on Dent, which leaves him scarred to hell. It's not going to be an acid burn, but instead just a straight flame-burn. The scene in the trailer is gasoline, not acid.

We've all seen the pic of the Joker in the Nurse's outfit in the Hospital. He's there because that is where Harvey was taken for his burns. Its in this scene where Joker delivers the freak like me line, and we see the aforepictured concept burns.

The rest is on you guys.

THAT is additional reason why Iron Man was boosted to stardom. Sure, some of these comics films have built-in audiences. (hey I will be there for TDK anyway), but Iron Man is very fresh and new and out of left field. A new feeling and something different for a goddamn change. That energizes the casual non-comic-fan movie-goer. See trailers, that looks badass, c'mon let's go. Not everyone has time to be a comics fan. If something looks good, it's gonna attract. THAT is why "obscure/lesser known characters" have a chance at the BO. Do a good job, advertise, they will come. And I am not biased. I don't play this favorites BS that the fanboys do. I support'em all.

Practical Vs CGI
by Reverend Toast
May 6th, 2008
09:30:07 PM
I think the practical makeup/cgi debate is a little misguided. CGI should ONLY be used when it is necessary (Like Batman Begins) not for every damn element (Like Star Wars Episode 1-3). While having an over abundance of CGI effects on a persons face (like in the Mummy) look fake, its cuz there is no blending element. If this is a combination of prosthetics and makeup, and then CGI to enhance the parts that can't be done (Removing the ear, messing with the eye and exposing the teeth) it will look great. CGI, in moderation, is amazing. When something can be done practically it should be (Like the First Matrix vs the sequels)

I hate thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach, when feeling out of sight for the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I hate thee to the level of every day's most quiet need; by sun and candle-light. I hate thee freely, as men strive for Right; I hate thee purely, as they turn from Praise. I hate thee with the passion put to use in my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith I hate thee with a love I seemed to lose with my lost saints,--I hate thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life!--and, if God choose, I shall but hate thee Batman Begins after death. Being a big Cormac McCarthy fan, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing THE ROAD on the big screen. I wouldn't be too concerned with them turning it into some sort of "summer action movie". It's being directed by John Hillcoat who also directed THE PROPOSITION (a very dark, moody Aussie western that is very much in the vein of McCarthy's BLOOD MERIDIAN). So, I think we'll definitely get something intriguing and, hopefully, faithful to the book (much like the Coens and NCFOM).

The casting of Viggo as the father is a damn good start. And I imagine that Pearce will be the character you mentioned.

Malachi Throne as False Face in BAT 3
by FlyingToupee
May 7th, 2008
03:54:25 PM
Yeah, he's a little old, but Malachi Throne could pull a reprise of his False Face role from 1966 in the next flick. Have him team up with the Archer and the Minstrel for a bid to take over Gotham City. He can disguise himself as all of the rogues gallery at various stages of the film so no one will be left out. And at the end of the film Bale should abandon the Tumbler for the George Bariss Batmobile, and trade in his body armor for a set of tights modeled on Adam West's outfit in the show. Add Commodore Schmidlap to the cast, and perfection will be achieved.
