anyhoo, of those films Eyes Wide Shut, A Few Good Men, The Firm, and Rain Man were hardly classics. And Cruise was shit in all of them.

Whether you like "24" or not, the show has maintained its generally hard-edged spark and viewership for many years, mostly due to its writing. Surnow and Loceff have even elevated freakin' Kiefer Sutherland into a larger-than-life character, yet Bauer is now destitute, emotionally crippled, and, paradoxically, has lost his family and everything he ever loved. He's not a happy man and at this point he's running on fumes.

Compare this to other spy-thriller shows like, I don't know, "The Unit," where characters are essentially the same caricatures every week and no particular tragedy afflicts them. I like "The Unit," don't get me wrong, but the reason people like Bauer so much is because he suffers. He's always in pain. Yet, despite the odds, he still tries to do the right thing. Surnow and Loceff are two of the main writers who've given Jack this, and I'm sure they could bang out a badass R-rated film. I'm excited to see what they come up with.

Fun aside...I've also heard he's a really kewl guy...stopped to help a young girl getting crushed by crowd and paparazzi and literally pulled her out of the crowd himself. Also, during a shoot for some movie (dunno which) he went to a local convenience store and on the spot dropped $5000 in a jar the owner had set up for charity for a local girl who needed an operation or something. I really don't care if he's queer or those religious gasbag's prophet. Keep participating in good cinema and I'll watch and enjoy. Thanks! (oh yeah, MI2 sucked and MI3 was not completely bad...it had Maggie Q...nuff said).
