They could do a show which is just about Ben and Sayid assasinating people and trying to take down Widmore and it would probably be as great as Lost is right now.

I don't think Lost would have been nearly as good if not for the emergence of Ben as a primary character. The fact that much of the original cast has become somewhat complementary (or gone) has been a good thing.

The guy's an Oscar-winner and he's been churning out turds for nearly 10 years, playing the same smug "I'm smarter than you are" character in every single film. As entertained as I am by Emerson's work on LOST, I'd say comparing the two is actually an insult to Emerson. I tune in every Thursday night to see what this guy's going to do next, while I couldn't care less about what Spacey has done since L.A. CONFIDENTIAL. I'm sure Emerson will probably be typecast in the same way when LOST is over, but right now, Ben Linus is the best character on the series, and one of the best in television in many, many years. I'd love to see him play The Riddler in a Nolan BATMAN film, but I doubt he'd ever make the leap to the big screen. How many TV actors in iconic roles ever really pull that off?

That was the one that won me over completely. They had a great set up in S1 but what they did with it in 2 was so cool, and so well-done ... No, I would say based on the first episode alone it was not treading water.

Michael Emerson is such a wonderful, talented actor!! Its a shame he can't do the stage this summer! I have read number of articles that he and his wife are having problems with there relationship. She refuses to stay in Hawaii with him because she wants a career like his.

The captain of the Blackrock in fact. He was teleported by Ben through that secret room , can't find his way back and has been looking ever since. Think about it... think about it... Pirate/wealthy man... Pirate/collector of all things BlackRock. Obvioulsy more to it, but you get the baseline idea ;-)

Did you seriously just figure out that Michael Emerson's wife played his character's mother in "Not in Portland"?

Or am I being a total jerk assuming that all devoted LOST fans already knew that long ago?

I mean, Emerson mentions it on the DVD commentary for that episode, but I think it was well known around the time the episode first aired.

Thank God no one is calling him "Benry" anymore...

if he doesn't get an emmy this year,
by ArcadianDS

It will be an injustice on par with DeVito and his work on Taxi.

This guy is the Cal Ripken Jr of television drama - on the heels of a strike in which the only victims were the public, and which resulted in the public turning its back on episodic television emass, he reinvigorated not just one show, but an entire genre of television entertainment.

In fact, they should recast the emmy to be a tiny naked gold statue of Emerson holding a television up on the air.

okay, thats a bit over the top - but the point is, this guy has acting chops you dont get to see on 'the small screen' all that often.

As for the people saying, zomg he aint gay?' - guess what, the guys an actor. If he wants to play the 'making dinner for the doctor' scene a little feminine and child-like, your surprise today that he's married only validates the calls for an emmy award.

Here's hoping the Actors don't strike like the Writers

They could kill off pretty much anyone else by now and Lost would be pretty much just as good. Hard to imagine that being the case without Benjamin Linus.

Fair play to the guy. Taking a three episode guest starring slot and turning it into one of the most compelling characters in TV history takes some doing.

...are the only people I've ever heard praising the 2nd season. It WAS the worst of the lot so far, although very watchable. They introduced some great characters, but also some terrible characters. Luckily, in the season's best episode they used Michael to take out a few of them.

I loved season 2. The intro of Ben, Desmond & Eko, all time great characters on the show. It had some of the best cliffhanger show endings.

It still retained that sense of mystery that S1 set up, S3 lost (till the finale) and S4 shows in spurts.

Not getting all the speculation about character's constants
by Mundungus
May 3rd, 2008
01:23:37 AM
I'm not getting all the speculation about which character is another character's constant.

Ben is not Widmore's constant. The idea of a constant was a device for that episode and will likely not appear again.

Even in the Constant episode it was stated the a constant could be anything, rather than anyone, just a touchstone for somebody, sort of a temporal anchor, so it would might very well be The Red Sox for someone like Jack or a guitar for Charlie (rip).

Certainly it won't play a pivotal role in in anyone else's storyline, even if Farraday has Desmond's name written in his notebook. That bit is done with.
