heard nothing but good things about Iron Man and no good things about Indy. Also, I heard this movie is 165 minutes long and the studio doesn't want Nolan to cut it down. I'll take Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Wall*E, and Pineapple Express over Spider-Man 3, Transformers, Ratotouille (sp?), and Superbad any day of the week. '08 is looking like it's making up for last summer...

That trailer is incredible. Looks like a great Joker performance. I'm not angry any more that he died. Just sad as hell. There were a string of deaths in the groups lately, including a guy we thought had eight years sober but who gave himself several strokes by snorting oxycontin secretly... ...and now I am depressed.

I haven't seen Secretary in a while, so maybe her voice always sounds like that, but her voice sounds like she's trying to imitate The Katie 2000. But that's a minor, MINOR quibble in an otherwise badass trailer.

Looks awesome. I can't wait. I'm going to wish half my summer away just to get to see this thing. I live in Chicago right now. I find myself sort of humming/chanting that Batman hero theme as I walk around sometimes. I'm so excited for this. I'm pretty sad not to be excited for Indy 4 at all, but oh well. Maybe it'll rock my pants off...my cgi pants, that is.

Starts out like The Constant Gardner, but it ends closer to The Passion Of The Christ. It'll be interesting where they go with this. Gibson seems to be interested in the end of civilization, as was suggested in Apocalypto. Has celebrity deathmatch done Gibson versus Cruise yet?

Dope trailer. Thought the first one was better though. Still, this trailer is very good and gets better with repeat viewings. I can't wait for this. Heath is going to own us. I'll give Nolan this- he has cast these Batman movies very well. BB was perfect casting and I'll go out on a limb and say I expect the same from TDK. I think his voice and persona are awesome - very different than what I envisioned, probably better. Damn shame about Ledger. It seems like the Joker will be so captivating that every scene he's not in will seem a drag in comparison. Not sure that bodes well for the overall film.

Took us like 2 hours to crack that safe and get our joker cards and rafle tickets, I saw the trailer 3 times, 1st with the rafle of the reel at the end of the trailer, second time i got back in line with those who wouldn't fit the first time in the theatre, at the end of the second time I won a Joker goon mask, the type they gave away @ comic con '07, then an ENCORE!!!!! We start with a Ghost in the Shell openingg sequence of the bat looking down about to jump very crisp and clean, love the city lights shining of his bat suit, no cape?, then the joker and all of the mob bosses of gotham city somewhat like lucy liu's scene in Kill Bill vol.1, the joker speaks and all the bosses respectfully listen to the master... TWO FACE talking on the cell phone with a gun in his hand riding in a car! then BATMAN GLIDING through sky scrapers...

Sorry, I hate to be the hater, but this really didn't do it for me. It was even less interesting to me than the first trailer, which left me pretty unimpressed. I wish they would have just ditched the Rachel Dawes character. The action shots don't look all that great. It is a tragedy that Heath Ledger is dead (I guess) but I still think he was grossly miscast in the movie. I hate that we have a 20-something emo joker with long greasy hair and bad goth make-up. I hate the Bat-pod, with it's bouncy guns and rear tire that would instantly suck up and entangle Batman's cape the instant he hit the gas. I REALLY HATE Harvey Dent's STUPID ASS "You either die a hero" line all you people are praising the crap out of. It is not clever and subtle foreshadowing. It is totally fucking obnoxious, on-the-nose drivel that wishes it could be subtle foreshadowing. Anyway, despite the fact that I haven't liked a thing about the trailers, I am still somewhat excited about The Dark Knight. The first 3/4 of Batman begins was pretty good - although certainly not the be-all end-all comic book movie some of you make it out to be.

Actually I think it was a background joke in the first film; Bruce drove a Murcielago (which means "bat" in Italian, Bruce not being terribly subtle...). Lambo obviously clocked this and punted a bit of cash over to the producers in exchange for being mentioned in an actual line of dialogue.

like the batpod are starting to grow on me now that i see'em in a bit of action. Hope the same bodes true of the new suit although i so wish Nolan would find a way for the gray and black color scheme to work, hell he seems to find a way for everything else to work that we geeks seem to have doubts about at the beginning of these things.
May I add that

I am not a hater, I just wish they would have ditched Dawes. You know what would have been awesome? If that fear gas made Katie Holmes totally batshit crazy at the end of Begins. Then in this one they could have hired Katie Holmes to do one scene where she's chewing on padded walls at Arkham and screaming like a banshee. This trailer gives me goosebumps in my nether regions, Ledger's Joker voice is pretty damn good. Can't wait for the high res version. Oh and Bass Bastardson, Batman would obviously build air jets over the rear wheel of the Batpod for two functional purposes: a) so his cape doesn't get caught in the wheel and b) so his cape looks all badass and billowy. Lucious Fox already problem solved this one.

Mary mother of God that looks like a good movie. And this is coming from someone who has not been quiet over my disappointment for Batman Begins. I think the difference here might be both Nolans better grasp on genre filmmaking and the lack of David Goyer, whose script for the first film just did not take the beating it deserved. Thankfully Nolan looks to be a far more talented writer than Goyer. I mean jesus even int he trailer there is pathos and character in every frame. I'm so psyched it's frightening me. Please don't break my poor heart Mr. Nolan.

Almost every scene in this trailer is paying tribute and reworking things from 89's bats, as is the other trailer (which even more erriely mirrors another trailer in scene play almost too the point that your jaw goes slack) We have an important character falling off a roof top possible a demise scene. A big meeting with the powers of crim and joker. The joker disguising himself as a cop to shoot someone in power, mirroring the original 89 when the joker disguised himself to kill a kingping. The stand off in the alley. The party crashing scene seems a tad bit like the art galley crash in 89. The vehical destruction scene sorta feels like a revisit to returns. will have to wait too see how it plays out. Cause the new batmobile is tough enough to plow thorugh a the roofs of a few building and jump and bridge. tou have to wonder how it goes down. Big gun or manipulation????

why would they hire gylenhal to replicate katie holmes performance when she was the weakest link in BB. in fact why even have her at all. there seems to be no chemistry at all between her and bale and her scenes will just drag the movie down. I bet WB told nolan in the beginning that they had to have a female lead in the movie for demographic purposes, her role and this love triangle thing is starting to worry me. Also dent seems pretty dull in this movie.

Que? Ummm, well the Joker dressing up as a cop is a scene from the golden age era batman comic, which the film's writers said influenced them a lot, along with the modern-era Killing Joke story.

Unlike some movies, where the closer you get, the hype seems to drown out any symblance of what once seemed awesome, this seems to be doing the opposite. I have a feeling that we are in for a masterpiece, of a comic book film, of which we've never seen, and likely not to see again for a long time.

I think I'm in the minority in this opinion, but I really hope Nolan recasts Joker for the next go. We, as fans, have waited so long for a good Joker (which Ledger appears to have delivered in spades), that it just seems kinda cheap to lose the character after one flick. As awesome as Two Face is, I think Batman and Joker don't seem right without one another. So I think that Nolan should hire one of the best impressionists in Hollywood, have the make-up guys go nuts until he looks like this film's Joker, and include him in the next film.

You haven't seen the movie so a)You don't know if Dent is dull or not, and b)You don't know if Bale and Glagyhall have chemistry or not. Nothing can be inferred from 5 seconds of combined footage.

and yet Nolan tells you He isn't the figure piece of this film. It's about Batman!! The trailers focus on the Joker more than Batman same goes for the viral marketing. What a strange way too sell a film when your saying it has more too do with the Protagonist then the Threat. No matter what you fanboys say the Joker is selling this film too the common fan and he ultimately is the reason people are going too see it.

I certainly hope his scene time matches and or eclipses Batman's. Because Batman is boring to me. He doesn't do anything except lock away crime and we all know how well that bit seems too work. He does that, and He prevent disasters. Disaster that more than likely would not happen if he wasn't around. Him being him, elevates the actions/repercussions of the criminals. His very existence upsets the nature of crime, Criminals have to up the game to keep him busy to get away with crime, that or they seek him out with all weapons and terroristic activities on go in hopes of destroying him. He has no life outside of his mission to fight crime, and he's such a lonesome prick. He doesn't have a real relationship with anyone outside of the paid help, and the real genuine friends he does have work with him as his otherself- the nutty Batman. I'm more in it for the villain.

The reels won in the raffle at each event are of the trailer with the Joker writing little quips and drawing Joker faces on different characters. Nobody seems to have been able to transfer their reel to digital yet, or at least film their reel as it played on a projector, but some guy did take a lot of pictures of his and posted them on his blog: http://tinyurl.com/6eqtdo

Gotta admit - the fact that they matched up the first trailer to the '89 Batman trailer is too, too cool. Shows that Nolan isn't dissing what's come before it, but that this movie is still going to KICK ARSE!!! Looks like their not going to play the whole Bruce/Harvey as old good friends - it would have really made Harvey's transformation much more tragic for Bruce. But, that tragedy may come in the 'fall' of Dawes. We can only hope.

move over heroin, everyone say hello to Viral Marketing Campaign
by i kick tits
Apr 29th, 2008
08:16:07 AM
You guys have no idea what geeks all over the world went through just so you could all be able to watch this trailer. It was supposed to be released online today through this viral marketing campaign they created, and legions of lazy computer nerds across the world spent hours staring at their screens slavishly trying to solve this lame ass puzzle together so this trailer could finally be seen by everyone online. In a joint effort in several different cities all over the world, groups made up of hundreds of non-lazy geeks, went on scavenger quests in the cities they lived in to help the lazy-geeks at home solve the puzzle at home. They were all told it would take a half hour to complete the entire puzzle so they could finally see their holy 2 minute Batman movie collage. 6 hours later, the puzzle was finally solved and there was much sappy rejoicing among the geek community. But instead of finally watching their much anticipating trailer, they were basically informed that they went though all their dorky turmoil for absolutely nothing and that no trailer was going to be posted online like they thought it would be. What happened after that was dorkpacylpse. They went ballistic. One can try to piece together for yourself just what happened at places like Imdb or Superhero Hype by wading through the wasteland of posts left behind from the shitstorm of their dork fury- but I really wouldn't recommend putting yourself though it because it is an extremely thing depressing to actually see. It was like there was one huge fanboy orgy that all these legions of nerds were expecting to go to together, but instead were really just blindly being led into one huge slaughterhouse like Jews in a concentration camp. It was a sad time indeed for dork-kind when they realized that yet again, the cool people of the world had fucked them over once more for absolutely no reason other than to take pleasure in their pain. One huge joke had suddenly rendered all their lives completely meaningless and they were there was nothing left for them. All they had left in their life's was to whine to eachother on their precious message boards about how cruel the world was to make them wait another whole entire week to see the their magnificent flash movie. As hilarious as I found this all to be, I must admit I was also bummed slightly myself as well, because I realized I would have to wait just like the rest of them. But what I did not take into account however is how strong the bond between dorks is, and that all the torture these losers have endured together over the years, as hilarious as it may be at times, gave them a power that I never even knew existed. If the people living in Darfur could come together like the nerds on internet message boards, maybe they would all be watching awesome Batman trailers on Youtube instead of getting their limbs macheted off. Basically the only reason you guys are watching this trailer right now, or anyone is watching the trailer for that matter, is because there was one single diehard nerd in Sao Paolo, Brazil who decided to get sneaky for his fellow dork brothers, and out of loyalty to his people, smuggled his cellphone into a screening and recorded the entire thing. And like the coming of the nerd Messiah, he brought it back to the internet dorks at home who were humilated and miserable at sitting at their computers. And when he did, as you can all imagine, there was a really extremely gay amount of joy among them. I mean capital letters everywhere. Even for this shitty ass bootleg crap they went ape-shit over it. It was like the end of Return of the Jedi when they saw this thing. Anyway, I don't know exactly who to give credit for this to, but someone over at Warner Brothers is a freaking genius for creating this whole viral marketing thing. These people were defintely nerdy to begin with, but there is something brilliant about just how easily and quickly they transformed these already exceptionally geeky geeks, into drooling blood thirsty maniac junkie geeks over something like a freaking Batman trailer. I love it. A bunch of people going to make one gigantic shitload of money on this one when itcomes out, mark my words.

if they off Joker in this or if he doesnt come back/get recast in future movies. Ledgers death is damn sad no doubt, but the character lives on, and should. I'm not sure what part he plays or how much time he is in the film, but Joker is Batmans arch and deserves, at least, to be represented in 2 films. Their story is large and itd be a damn shame to just stick with the new movie new villain format. (Although that does work best for Batman movies b/c he's got the best villains). As for Dawes, I bet she doesnt die. I bet due to whatever happens she becomes the sidekick of one of the villains (I say she becomes Harley, how sweet would that be) that would 1000 times worse for Bruce than if shes simply killed, that validates the need for Batman then, if she just gives up and becomes one of 'them' what hope is there? B/c remember Dawes is Bruces moral rock. Also I'll open up the shit storm of discussion and ask who we'd like in the role if Joker is recast?

But why do we have to have a love triangle in every single superhero movie? That scene looks exactly the same as the Peter, MJ, Jameson Jr. part in Spiderman 2. I think it would have been better to make Dent a family man like he's been in every every other incarnation. That would make it more traumatic when he makes the change to Two-Face. Still, I have the feeling that this will turn out to be the best superhero movie ever made.

For one thing, the philosophy behind it is totally flawed. There have been a fuck load of heroes throughout history who have grown to be old men and died heroes. They never turned into villains. This movie still looks sick as fuck and I am on it like 5 asian dudes on a Dance Dance Revolution arcade machine but that quote just kinda makes me slap my forehead and go "Oh boy... " Does anyone else feel this way? It seems like Harvey Dent is trying to be profound or some shit but he just ends up sounding pretentious and, well, dumb. Heath Ledger, on the other hand, looks like he is going to become the definitive Joker for our generation. I am so fuckin psyched to see this shit when it comes out. Me and my bro are gonna watch the quicktime version of this trailer like 50 times and then I will politely ask him to leave the room when we're done so I can watch it 50 more times while I masturbate to it repeatedly until my cock is sore.

taken literally as most of you have done, i could mean that people can keep trying to do good for so long, they get warped, cold, vengeful, punishing. there are lots of examples. government. religion, etc. there have been several examples of this in batman comics with batman himself, until a robin or some other foil snaps him out of the wrong path.

he could also mean getting villified by a fickle public, quick to judge and change allegiances like so much tabloid fodder- not neccessarily becoming a truely villainous person.

From a continuity standpoint, Batman Begins was truer to the medium than any other incarnation created. Falcone, Flass, and Fox all showed up, Joe Chill murdered Bruce's parents, his training was explored, Alfred was humanized, Gordon was portrayed properly, they didn't kill off their villains for Hollywood closure and they didn't rely on heavy CGI. It's character-driven and more down-to-earth. Plus, they're not holding out on us to please the kiddies. No jar-jar in this mofo. The first one was like a kung-fu horror flick, in my opinion. Now we got Ledger climbing out of body bags and Harvey getting his face slammed into a gasoline-soaked floor?? How can my blue balls be questioned? Their color should be obvious to everyone, I think.

it can also mean that when you become a hero, people will expect more from you. if you don't get out quick (become a martyr) and can't keep up with the demands, be everywhere at once, be everything for everyone, they will turn on you and resent you.

I think he's refering, in context, to being a lawyer and bringer of "justice". Think on this, though it may be cliche. Whether we're talking about do-gooder lawyers, or vigilanties, nearly everyone, if they last long enough, sells out in the end. They become the abyss that they've spent their lives looking into, become the monsters they used to fight. I think this was Harveys point in that line.

wheter or not they were planned in his performance, there is at least one nod to 60's romero joker, in that the mask the joker wears in the bank robbery is almost dead on with one worn in the old series by the joker during that clown opera (name? eludes me) there is a reference pic somewhere on the net.

also, i am in agreement with the 'selling out' translation of what harvey said. i think it's a bit of all of that.

mentioned earlier he didnt like the "Die a her or live long enough to become a villain" line. I have to agree, which leads me to Aaron Ekhardt being a bad pick for Harvey Dent. If there is gonna be a big rise and fall for this character, they should of picked a likeable actor to do it, make it really dramatic. Aaron Ekhardt comes off as really arrogant in all his movies, he's the same guy from Black Dehlia in every role. Thats why that line comes off as pompous instead of profound. I'm actually looking forward to seeing his face get burnt off. I dont think thats what Nolan was trying for. Just my Opine

Floods are not as common as they used to be, at least where traffic is too dense. But it's a dump anyway. It's the kind of place you'd have if you did everything wrong in SimCity, a incredibly bankrupt, polutted, overpopulated, crime-ridden ultraviolent piece of shit. Well, except for the south, the whole country is like that. So, by the way, if anyone here is considering visiting Brazil and is not going to the south region, DON'T GO! I mean it. You'll NOT enjoy your stay and will probably be killed. I am not joking.

...probably refers to someone asking him if he isn't afraid that he'll be killed due to his brash facing of the criminal underworld in such a dangerous city. So the point he makes, which I hope will sound like less of a cheesy soundbite in context, is that if you don't take a chance at dying by doing the right thing, you just tacitly accept what's going on and thus end up becoming a part of the corrupt system....you wash your hands of what's going on and are therefore a villain who willingly participates in the wrongdoing.

Apr 29th, 2008
01:56:01 PM
I read a very good point earlier. If you look at a vigilante or law enforcement agency that does a great job, the expectations become too high, and then they become unrealistic. There will be escalation on the part of the criminals. And as we love to do we will then blame the heroes for it, for their failure to protect us. There will be resentment that can turn to out right hatred, and even though he may be still doing the same job he was doing before they will see him negatively. That negativity can even go to the point of feeling sympathy towards his victims and an overlooking of their crimes because he was the one that stepped in to capture them. Think of it as the world Frank Miller laid out in the beginning of the Dark Knight Returns. The world where Bats is no longer appreciated or seen as a true hero. I think it’s an allusion to that, as well as a foreshadowing of Dent truly becoming a villain. of course I am the king of over thinking things.
