With true legends like Williams and Zimmer still pumping out soundtracks, I don't really get your taste but whatever. The man is very talented to be sure but nothing I've heard struck me as iconic. Perhaps I should watch the Cloverfield credits again.

Just curious, but how do you pronounce your son Toshi's name? "Toe-shee"?
Great! So it should be on Limewire later that day!

Is will there be 1 1/2 minutes of silence on the track before the actual music starts? I want the genuine movie experience!

But I did for Cloverfield. Nice piece of music. Mori, Giacchino has also done scores for some of the Medal of Honor games so if you love his work that much you should check them out as well. Great stuff to exercise to.
If only the end credits made up for the rest...

It's an OVERRATED track

CLOVERFIELD was a fuckin' blast. Sure its shooting style stretched credibility -- but it's about a giant monster! Should we delve into the physics and biological credibility of such a creature, too? We're lucky someone made such a cool monster flick.

Williams is "pumping out" soundtracks?

The new Indiana Jones movie will feature the first new Williams score in TWO-AND-A-HALF YEARS. And Hans Zimmer is a "legend"? He singlehandedly RUINED contemporary film scoring. Now every score is the same bland orchestral/synthetic mush, while genuine talents like Bruce Broughton are forced to score bad Lifetime TV movies. Giacchino is one of the few composers working now who can write complex, thematic orchestral music without leaning on techno synth pads or "moaning woman" nonsense.

Roar! is a fantastic orchestral monster mash. It is a tribute to the old Godzilla theme and Giacchino does it justice in his unique way. He also did the best ever Mission Impossible cover, yes, better than Limp Bizkit's version. Its his arrangement of percussion that really pumps your adrenaline senses. And dont start me on how radical his Lost soundtrack is. Cant wait to get this track.

for mentioning the season 3 Lost soundtrack. i didnt even realize they made any, and especially not one for the first 3 seasons. usually they'll make a "best of" when it comes to tv series scores so this is cool. so yeah, thanks to you i found out and bought the first 2 seasons and pre-ordered 3. i also picked up the two Alias scores cuz i loved his music for that as well, though there's only season 1 and 2, i assume sales werent good enough to release the rest. ANYWAY, yeah thank you...you made my wallet happy. :P

A Bond homage, his Mission Impossible homage, his Speed Racer homage, his Godzilla homage. Can't wait for the Star Trek homage! Lost doesn't sound like an homage but it's also completely indistinguished.

An author or artist is still showing proficiency even when evoking previously established motifs - by reworking them into new pieces. Rock n' Roll really hasn't evolved much since the 70's, but musicians still write new music with that beat and feel- some extremely well. Giacchino is quite simply proving to be a master at working in genre music without copying what's already been done. I also love the fact that to my mind he's showing a great deal of versatility in the process. Unlike Horner, for example (whose work I also like, but not as much) who you can pick out by his use of certain chord progressions and use of certain instruments in similar patterns.
Just purchased mine...
