He only had a total of 75 seats. I had 150. AICN friends & family took under 30 - Drafthouse had 20... 100 went to you folks - and the auditorium holds 225. AICN seating list gets priority. The passed out tickets at U.T. might have been an overage - but that'll be a separate line let in second... to fill up the remaining room aka 75 seats - so if you got a U.T. pass - get there early.

Yes - but what you don't understand is this - A PASS does not GUARANTEE admission. Your name on the above list DOES. Those passes are meant to make sure the theater is PACKED - but there's only 75 seats that those passes are for. The others are filled and reserved. So while he had STACKS of passes... only 75 people will be able to get in that have those. The rest will unfortunately go home without seeing the film this night.

the word on this movie is red hot. The test screenings from last summer were amazing - and that's why I campaigned. Sony was open to it because they had a very very good screening of SUPERBAD - and they have no guarantees of a positive review. That said - David Gordon Green doesn't make bad movies, but then this is a delicate film to balance - that said... word I've heard is that is fucking great. So that's what I'm hoping for. That they're screening it 3 months early for an audience with no restrictions shows Sony's confidence in the film. Wouldn't you say?

the passes are "First Come, First Serve" which means they don't guarantee admission. AICN folks get seated first. With the overage being students. -- There's a possiblity of opening a second screen - - but there's also a possibility of students being given a pass to see the movie - closer to release - that's still being worked out. If someone were to do a search on all the pass giveaways you'd see an AWFUL lot of the same names on each list. What happened to Fantastic Fest badge holders getting perks for dropping 3 bills on the pass? I got into SUPERBAD last year because I had a badge not because I had to make up some story to be judged by Harry the Gatekeeper. Knowing people has it's perks for sure, hell, at the FF last year I met all these people for the first time that I had seen at countless screenings before, and now I know their names. So I know from what I speak. I bet only about fifteen or so of those names are "strangers" or "common folk". If that. Seriously Harry for the last time dude if you're not really going to give out tickets to people who try and get in, don't make IT A FUCKING CONTEST. Just let FF badge holders get a hold of the other tickets. That way you don't have to be so obvious in rigging the lists with all the people that kiss your ass.

I don't want to be an ass kisser but the cheap shots are really childish guys. Fat jokes? We are more grown up than that. That aside, I do agree that the video thing is kind of bullshit. I thought it was a straight up e-mail format thing, and I feel as if I put myself at a disadvantage for doing simply what the post asked us to do. Dude - Take chill pill. About 90% of the events I do here in town are for the FANTASTIC FEST crowd. And they get a tremendous value for their pass. This event though was frankly something I was doing for those that didn't lay out three bills for a pass. as for me knowing all the people I've let in... In the above list - there's 12 people that I know. Mind you - that's that I know. Not that I have over to my house, not that come to parties I throw, but that are folks that frequent the Austin film scene - and they got in because they followed the rules pretty goddamn well and wrote excellent submissions for why they deserve to get in. the other 91 folks on that list - I couldn't identify in a line up if I wanted to. Some of them may in fact be Fantastic Fest folks, I don't know - they didn't identify themselves that way - but about a third of the remaining 90+ are folks traveling to Austin from other places in Texas and beyond - that have never once been to the Alamo Drafthouse and this is the event that they wanted to pop their cinema soaked cherry with. Fact of the matter is this - the vast majority of posts that were sent in were two sentence pieces. Hardly any effort or reason to go. Now sure - I could NOT have given seats out - and instead made this a charity event - priced tickets at like... oh... $150 a piece and sold out in about 3 hours - but instead I wanted this fairly remarkable screening to be a free screening for folks that instead of spending money they didn't have to spend... they would spend a little effort on a blank email... to put a little bit of charm, wit and grace and for that effort - they'd get into a pretty amazing early screening event. Sorry you didn't get in - but the "butt buddies" of mine - numbered about 30 (including that bastard Moriarty - who probably took your spot) -

So why didn't you? Why not price out half the seats for charity, which actually sounds like a damn good idea, and give away the other half? To me, that's all fair. You got $100 and you're quick on the trigger, you get in, or if you're clever enough with your entry then you also have a chance. I know I sounded bitter and like a little bit of a whiney baby, but I get so tired of getting passed over for everything. Also, one of the reason I bought a FF badge is not just for the very awesome fest, but because it gives me the opportunity for things like this. Only not this year since everything has to do with dressing up or writing. I was actually one of the ones who wrote about three or four sentences and that was only because I felt I saw the post a little late so I wanted to get my entry in as fast as possible so I rushed like hell. My fault. I knew that going in, but I thought maybe luck would be on my side. And hey, I was real careful to be nice man, I didn't say anything about your rapidly shedding poundage or "butt buddies". Only that you like the people who kiss your ass. Who doesn't? Next time I see you at an event I'll be sure to smooch it up real good. You'll know me, I'll be the one who's wearing the shirt that says, "I bought a Fantastic Fest badge, but I don't kiss Headgeek's ass, so I never get into any special screenings". ;)

I did write a well written, multi-paragraph email detailing why I not just wanted to see the alamo, but wanted to see THIS PARTICULAR movie. I didn't want in because it's a premiere, or because it's at the alamo. Frankly, Harry knowing you gave spots away to people coming out of town (realistically, are they all going to even show up??) because they've never been to the alamo before doesn't make me feel better at all. They haven't been to the alamo? Screw them for waiting and let them buy a ticket to a movie like everyone else and be paying customers to the alamo instead of free loaders. I've been a LONGTIME patron of the alamo, apparently that means squat. And yeah DannyGlovers_dickblood, maybe I do need a life, or maybe you need to find another site. This is a movie fan site. This movie I've wanted to see more than any other in the last few years. I made this very clear in my email to harry. Apparently a strong desire to see the actual film being shown isn't the main criteria in harry's choosing. And yeah it sucks that harry's being criticized. I run websites all the time and get criticized too -- welcome to the real world! And yes, I am bitter and will freely admit it -- that's how BADLY I wanted to see this movie. How many people on his list were going to be seriously bitter because they didn't see this particular movie? Probably not that many, which means they didn't deserve to see it as much as me. I'm not accusing harry of favoritism or the crap with the passes something mentioned or anything like that. I'm just mad that I know I'm way more of a fan for this particular movie than a lot of people on that list, and I really got my hopes up that I might get to see it early. I even told harry how let down I was going to be if my friend and I didn't make the cut. Fuck me for being a fan. The thing is, I know Harry's got to have been there with me on this one before. I don't get to go to premieres or prescreens or anything like that. So a movie comes along that I've been really looking forward to for months and I'm let down that I didn't get tickets for the ONE I really did want to go see early. My mouth is wide open in shock that you can't sympathize with that position even if you don't like the movie.
