LOST has been great this season. It is such a refreshing change from the tired police, detective, hospital dramas. LOST has remained fresh and intelligent -- even when so many shows become shells of their former selves.

Well, I had some concerns about that myself, but after mentioning them in a previous talkback it was pointed out to me that "Lost" kills off cast members of both genders at a relatively comparative rate.

After giving it some thought I realized that while life on The Island may be brutal for people of both sexes, the writers of Lost at least are somewhat merciful when it comes to the distaff slayings. The male characters are blown up (Arzt. Mikhail, the Others attacking the beach tents), drowned (Charlie), ripped up (Scott), shredded and left hanging in a tree (Seth Norris the pilot), beaten against trees and the ground like a rag doll (Mr. Eko), skull-cracked on the rocks (Kelvin), killed during surgery following a small ironic plane crash (Boone), executed while captive (Ethan Rom, Tom Friendly), sucked into a freaking turbine engine (Gary Troup), run over by the Dharma van and so on. all pretty horrific, brutal ways to go. Now I'm not saying a gut-shot isn't painful, but with the women, well Sherrif Isabel of The Others was blown up (off camera) during the attack at the tents and Joanna and Regina drowned (both presumed suicides). Naomi was murdered with a knife, but pretty much all the other women (Shannon, Ana Lucia, Libby, Mrs. Klugh, Bonnie and Greta, Danielle and (possible spoiler - ***x) are all taken out quickly by gunshot. Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang.

I forgot to include paralyzed by spiders and then buried alive (Nikki and Paulo) but then that was pretty much evenly divided by gender too, wasn't it?

And a friend of mine who has two infants tells me that the "invisible" flavors aren't just a stupid gimmick, they help prevent furniture and carpet stains.

I'm not a Family Guy fan but I liked the running gag they did with Kool-aid Man. A couple times they had courtroom scenes where a verdict would be read, everyone would say "Oh No!" and then Kool-Aid Man would crash through the wall shouting "Oh yeah!" Then once it happen and the judge ordered everyone to stop saying "Oh no!"

Later a runaway car crashed through the wall of Kool-Aid Man's living room while he was reading the paper and he remarked "You know, it's not so funny when you're on the other side."

For those of you who have grabbed LOST and BSG from me - you know everything is legit and I don't slipe anything funky in there. I share because I have a love for fans of my favorite shows. Some can't see them for months or years later...if at all. So I do what I can to help.

This episode was wildly uneven but it saved itself with the face-to-face between Ben and Widmore. Which has got me thinking:

Who else thinks that Widmore used to be on the Island many years ago...long before Ben came there? Cause I'm thinking Charles and Richard Alpert might have been on the Island circa Black Rock...if not earlier.

(If that's the case, then it would make up for the stupid multi-millionaire industrialist who wants the Island for himself! stuff.)

Maybe Widmore was the original captain of the Black Rock. (Wasn't it a slave ship?) So that makes him double evil -- a slave-ship captain. Since Widmore has been unable to return to the island, he has been growing old. He's mortal now. He doesn't want to die. That's why he wants to go back to the island. Simple as that.

Time/Spacial teleportation and the "effects" witnessed right in the first 30 seconds. Ben has quite a toy...which he leaves behind (and now can't find the island) by coming out to deal with Widdy.

We get Ben's ability to call Smokie to defend the island...though if Ben or anyone else got in it's way, it is probably unpredictable.

Ben and Widdy are locked in a game for control of that island - but the deal was, no killing family. WIddy broke the rules. No our lovely Penny is in harms way. Des and Ben have got to work this one out.

Ben IS AN ASS KICKER!!!

Jack is gonna need surgery (maybe why they take him as an O-6?)

Damn there is just so much.

I admit - that is a truly cool concept...but Ben's face is quite messed up on island, and his scence in London he is very well groomed and as Widdy pointed out "Tan" - Ben said it was from being in Iraq.

I really like the idea - going to him right then ansd there to say"you broke the rules, all bets are off" - but too much talk about them both needing to find the island again. Penny is on that island with Des...and Ben wants back to kill her. Des will be against that.

Unless you have some super scoopage to spill - I just can't buy into that as much as I like it.

I am beginning to suspect that Widmore and Ben (as we know them) are from the distant past (or future) and are trying to find their way back to the island.

Obviously that is NOT the number of remaining Flight 815 survivors, just a headcount on the extras who have played the roles. Actually there ought to be about a dozen of so unaccounted "redshirts" left from flight 815. One source stated there were 4 with Lockes group and the rest with Jack's group. We saw three die in the attack on the Otherton barracks, so that leaves ten or less with Jack's group. Not counting Cindy, Zach and Emma who were taken by The others from the tail section group.

I think Desmond is going to be the hero. He's the only character without any real flaws. He's certainly the most noble.

In spite of Ben Linus's famous claim to the contrary, I suspect there are very few "good guys" on this show. Our "heroes" are drunks, junkies, killers, torturers, con-men, spies, drug smuggling warlords, patricidal bank robbersm incestuous step-siblings, enforcers, unfaithful wives, bad cops...

Desmond, fallen monk, kicked out of the monestary for drinking the wine, accidentally killed Kelvin and harpooned Mikhail - and failing to kill Mikhail led to Charlie's death.

Hugo Reyes may not have done anything worse than being superstitious before ariving on the island, but he ran an other over with his minibus during the rescue at the tents.

Rose, had faith her husband was alive. The island cured her breast cancer but she is willing to risk her life to return Bernard to their old life.

Cindy the stewardess or flight attendent noticed when charlie began to act flakey - either she worried about his welfare or feared for the flight's safety. she called it to the attention of other flight attendents and they chased charlie into the lavatory near the cockpit. Yet when instructed to return to the rear of the plane she did so unquestioningly - the plane began to break up right after that, and she was part of the tail section group. She took the dangerous back-up position on the march to the beach and was taken by the others. she was then seen, when The Others had Jack, kate and Sawyer, settled in as part of the others community in order to serve as caretaker for the taken tailie children Zach and Emma (and possibly the non-canonical "other girl" seen only in ABC promo photos.)

So I'd rank cindy and Rose as the noblest and most guilt free of the characters on the show.

I suspect the only real "innocents" are the children. Aaron. Walt. Zach and Emma.

since then, every episode has been badass and i have to eat my words. the evil dead smoke monster tonight was one of at least ten incredible moments, and seeing ben play carmen san diego makes this one of my favorite episodes ever. i'll think twice before ranting about the show sucking from now on.

I don't know, but holy shit. The episode was massively shocking and satisfying. The sequence with smokey raping the mercenary team... I mean, honestly, if that sequence didn't make you smile you are not a Lost fan.

Ben takes two armed men with a folding baton, shoots one, leaves the other with a crunched skull (dead, dying or just unconscious?) and leaves them where they lie. Ben is Moriarty. Ben is Dean Moriarty.

The look on Sawyers face when Ben 1.) pulled a shotgun out of his piano stook anbd pumped it and 2.(then handed it to him.

BEn telling Keamy he knows exactly what kind of man he is.

Ben trying to deal with Keamy and the realization he will always have to live with, that the last words he said before she died were (along the lines) of "Go ahead and shoot her."

Ben escapes into his safe room, then through his closet into an ancient tunnel... then comes back out.

Smokey, like a freight train of vengence.

Ben crushed over his daughter's body and kissing her bloody brow.

Ben using himself as bait to lure Nadia's killer out so Sayid could kill him. His casual "I think that's enough" after Sayid emptied a clip into the guy. His wicked smile as he walked away. I don't think he actually engineered that to recruit Sayid, but I think he improvised well and was very pleased with the outcome.

Ben tanned and healthy in a black suit, oozing charm and inocence while clutching his baton, fully ready to kill an innocent hotel employee. Ben casually picking the elevator lock to get into Widmore's penthouse.

And Jeebus, I thought "Ji Yeon" with the flash forward/back was tricky, but they set the entire episode up showing Ben as deadly, cunning, James Bondian cool, awesome, vulnerable, fallible, vengeful, practically heroic... and then he coldly vows to kill an innocent woman to get at her father and we see the monster we always knew was there come out again. DAMN!

If Keamy is very, very lucky, he will be dead before Ben Linus gets a hold of him.

Sawyer was allowed to live to enter the house and throw Ben out as was explained,hence he didn't get hit.

The smoke monster still at least sounds mechanical to me though that inscribed doorway speaks of 4 toed statue elder civilisation tech.

Is the english chick perhaps trying to poison Jack or is it as simple as appendicitis or similar ?

Will Jacob appear as jacks father again for Hurley ?

Many new questions but many answers too. Lost is delivering.

Claire's freaking cabin explodes and she survives entirely unharmed because she was under an unburnt, untorn blanket. Huh?

I'm glad that even at 10:00 Lost isn't going the ultra-explicit violence route. Alex with blood on her forehead, as Ben kissed her, very sad. But seriously, the way Keamy capped her, half her head and face should have been blown off. Again, not complaining about how they did it, just saying, not that realistic. Especially after the medical traumas of "intestines in hand" and that torn scalp on the doctor show that aired before it.

Remember Boone explaining "redshirts" to Locke and Locke's appraisal of Kirk as "a piss poor captain." Three people from Locke's group are gunned down like shooting range targets. Ben stops to cry over Alex, but Locke heads out without a thought to his fallen. Claire's cabin explodes (with her presumably in it) and he doesn't even blink. Locke is a very piss-poor captain indeed.

And then he pulls a gun on Sawyer and it willing to take hurley captive in order to find Jacob's cabin. Locke was awesome in season one and parts of season three, but he's totally freaking LOST it.

I watched it live as broadcast. My immediate reaction was to come here and just post a series of vulgar non-sequitors. "Holy sh*t" "Holy f*ck" "Holy crap" "Holy Jeebus" "Holy McCall" and so on. But instead I shot up my insulin, made popcorn and watched the thing again and it was better the second time.

I've blathered on a bit and barely touched on half of what was awesome about that episode. I mean, that was...

Holy f*cking f*ck on a bouncing f*ck-stick. .

They can either fix Locke or acknowledge that he's gone insane and kill him. Sad to say since he was once my favorite character on the show, but at this point I think I'd be okay with that option.

Ender, yeah, cold of him to leave Sawyer and Claire 'locked' out on the porch - unless he thought she was already dead after the directors credit blew her cabin up. At least he showed concern about Aaron, twice telling Hurley not to stand in front of the window holding the bay-bee. And he acknowledged Ben's grief over Alex.

But my favorite Locke moment that ep: with all the death, explosions, chaos, terror going on, his big concern was confronting Ben: "You lied to me when you said you didn't know what the smoke monster was."

Oh John, what has happened to your priorities?

In the mid-'70s Marvel had a comic called Master of Kung Fu and artist Paul Gulacy was doing some awesome art, Steranko-lite mixed with photo-swipes. The problem was, he wasn't fast enough to do that quality of work on a monthly basis, so every other issue was a Keith Pollard fill-in done in the stock Marvel house style. Very disruptive, and folks complained and said Gulacy should work faster. I disagreed - if he needed two months to create the quality, the finished product was worth it.

As much as I like having Lost as a weekly series with no interruptions, if it took them a month to do an episode that good, maybe it's worth it. Maybe the weekly series format is obsolete. Think about it - if they did a Monthly TV series - 12 episodes a year - but they were all THAT AWESOME...?

Worth the wait, I'd say.

I SO agree about monthly tv shows, should it stick to episodic dramas. Fill the rest of the schedual with Sitcoms, news, and reality. Have a few nights a week with a "special monthly presentation". Only problem is, I think advertising dollars would suffer. Some network should try that format, though. Would be interesting to see the effect on viewership.

And killing Naomi just to get her off the telephone? I thought my dad was bad... I'm suspecting that sitting down in that hatch and pushing that button may have driven Locke around the bend.

Nice to see Jurley manning up a bit, though. You don't want me to open the door? Here's a footstool through the window. elegant solution. And coming between two angry men with drawn guns? Blessed are the peacemakers.

Oh, keyser, that's always been such an appealing solution, but "Darlton" have said that the show won't have a one line high concept punch line. The pay-offs, tie-ups and big finishes with be deep, rich and complex. it won't be a show that can be wrapped up with a one liner. No "they're all dead and in purgatory", no "Hurley's in a mental institution have a dream".

"The Prisoner" didn't end with "the people he used to work for ran the Village" and "Lost" isn't going to end with a punch-line or easy explanation, eigher.

Ben time/space traveling into the middle of the dessert and then totally kicking some Arabian ass. (Why did he need a parka, was he not sure where he was going to land?)

Widmore did not have Nadia killed. Ben did. And it was all part of the plan to recruit Sayid as Ben's assassin. Yes, Ben conned Said by killing his wife.

Okay, for thos ethat know me here, you know I can come up with some crazy shit. But you also know I tend to look at the big picture rather than the minute details. I think last night told us the overall picture of the show.

The gods never died.

Widmore is one of the gods, as is Jacob....and probably Richard, etc. That's why Ben said he couldn't kill Widmore (paraphrased). Ben is human, and somehow he got control of the island. Maybe it was a test to see if he had what it took to be a god. I don't know. Smokie may be Zeus (god of thunder) or may be what Zeus used that made him known as the god of thunder.

The subtle thing was this:

Remember the "incident" where Halliwax lost his arm?. Ben went "through the Machine" or whatever to teleport into the Sahara (love the effects with the coldness/steam breath...very cold when you are teleported - hence the jacket) and did you see the wound ON HIS FREAKIN ARM!! It is a wound, that if it was worse, would have taken his ARM OFF - JUST LIKE HALLIWAX!!! They obviously made improvements, Ben kept the arm, but there is obviously a glitch causing the same frackin injury when you use the machine. Very cool.

Ben said "Shock and Awe" about the military attack. This is a military term, but there is also the relation to Chakana, from the incan. I noticed Ben's secret passage door had some ancient carvings that looked incan.

I'm looking thorough my Ep library ( I have EVERYTHING LOST related in filefolders on my PC...but nothing marked Candle/Halliwax or anything so I can't find a good clip of his fake arm so I can do a screencap). Warm breath hit COLD air causing extreme flash condensation, hence the "cold-air breath". Is their slang or a simple one or two word definition of that???? COld-Air Breath seems clunky.

I think the EXTREME temperature has EVERYTHING to do with the science of Time Travel /Teleportation. And somehow this is tied into the small cold wave Miles' Dust Buster-like device created when he was contacting another dimension (dead or otherwise). Don't know if they will ever expand on Miles' DustBusterish tech...but there it is.

I'm in love with everything you guys have mentioned already...EVERYTHING...so I won't waste time rehashing. But, I want you to think about something...

The Rules.

We have seen this before...When Michael got captured trying to get Walt back...he was taken to a Dharma tent where Miss Klugh laid it out for him. "If you want to see Walt again...you have to do something for us". Michael says "Anything"...She continued, "We need you to go back to the hatch (Swan) and release our friend". When Michael asks why HE has to do it...why THEY just don't go bust him out...and Beatrice replied..."We just can't DO that".

That line always stuck with me...Because, obviously The Others COULD HAVE gotten ben out themselves...but a "rule" was in place preventing them.

So, even as far back as then..."rules" have been in place. Last night these rules were clearly addressed...twice...when Keamy killed Alex...and again in Charles' bedroom.

The question is...What rules? Who established these rules? Who enforces these rules? What are the consequences for breaking the rules?

In a world as crazy as Lost is...why are people following these rules...and where did they come from?

This is complete foreshadowing of the later scene involving Locke and Sawyer taking aim at one another. Maybe Hurley's line is also a bit of foreshadowing, and Sawyer taking Claire to the beach is a big mistake. Maybe because if he does that Clair and/or Sawyer will die! Hmmm.

A "grandfather paradox" was spoken of by physicists who argue that you could never go back in time and kill your own grandfather. Why? Because you would have never existed -- and could not subsequently go back in time to kill him.

There are two alternative theories of time travel. One calls for the ability to change the past (or future) by changing anything along the timeline. This is part of the rationale behind the "Butterfly Effect" theory of quantum physics. Secondly, there are physicists who believe that there are NO alternate timelines. The timeline is fixed. If someone in the past has been killed by a person in the future, it stands in time. This is sort of like the episode of Futurama where Fry became his own grandfather. Fry always existed -- and was always his own grandson. It was a "fixed timeline." Changes made by time travelers are not really changes, but a destiny that causes history to continue as it always would. It sort of borders on a Calvin-like theory of "predestination" in regard to human history.

It's a little complicated, but it is interesting nonetheless. I recommend reading Hawking's A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME. Good stuff. I think that the writers of LOST are borrowing from it's theories.

If this is correct, then the writers realize that Ben could not go "back in time" and kill anyone who they know to be alive in the future. They could only kill those who were destined to be killed by themselves. Ben could not kill Widmore...because Widmore was alive in the future. Any attempt to kill him might cause a paradox. These are the "rules" of physics.

Alex was NOT supposed to die; yet Keamy killed her anyway. Ben knows that he cannot kill Widmore...because he knows that their timelines are interwoven. But Penny? It seems that Ben is willing to break those "rules" just to make Widmore suffer.

The theme song from MST3K begins to play on the muzak system as, in rapid succession, a vault door, an air-lock door, an accordian door, a french door, one of those Star Trek doors that go "whoosh" and a rough hewn wooden outhouse door with a carved quarter-moon open as he approaches.

The music seques into the Get Smart theme as an old aluminum garage door slides up and he passes through a babershop door complete with striped pole, the curtain to a tailor shop's changing room, the beaded curtain to the back room of a head-shop and the door to a '50s style British police call box all allow him passage. At the end of the tunnel he enters an old fashioned glass enclosed phone booth that has a slot machine in it. he deposits one Dharma dollar in the slot, pulls the handle and drops down into a barber chairin the Smoke Monster control chamber. The unblinking eye of hal 3000 stares at him - he balefully stares back - and a metallic voice asks "Hel.lo, Ben.ja.min...do.you.want.to.pl ay.a.game?"

He faces a roughly cut cheap plywood "computer control panel" with various flashing and blinking lights behind a bolted on tinted plastic sheet and various knobs, buttons and toggle switches. A row of dials are clearly labels with large white slide-in cards "On/off," "small/medium/large/ginormous, " "slow/fast/freight train," "spooky/scary/fucking awesome" and "frighten/intimidate/kill/slau ghterfest". There's a volume control set to go all the way to eleven.

LOVE IT Brodarlton. I absolutely (as mentioned earlier) how Sawyer's character has changed. He REALLY cares about Hugo (remember the jungle scene with the cabin when he was shunned by a distracted Hurley) and now this. And Big Brother with Claire. Next to Vincent, he is becoming my favorite. That is really strange because he was one of my most despised a couple years ago. Just the character - I never dislaiked Josh Holloway, but the "chain-smoking hillbilly" as an ass.

Ben rotates the chair to the right and there's a large carnival wheel of fortune. The large pie-chart style wedges are labeled "roar, jiggle trees, shred and leave hanging in treetop, rend into bits, impress & inspire, pull into ground, slap against trees like rag-doll" as well as other effects we haven;t already seen, such as "slice, dice, blend, puree, vaporize, eviscerate, shake, turn inside out, skin alive, abuse, poke, vibrate, draw & quarter, deflower, slice like a stack of pancakes, burrowing insect enema, centipede douche, toss into ocean, "the safety dance," behead, charbroil, facialize, turn into drawer knob, steam press, Martinize [tm], Lasik [tm] circumcision, tie into knots, infibulate, mess with and "random mayhem special bonus pack".

Also, Krycek, please. Because Lost doesn't settle neatly into one genre, the writers "can't decide"? Try again, champ. You are in the extreme minority in disliking last night's ep, and you can't even come up with legitimate criticism.

Ben is great, his wee beating stick will hopefully make many more appearances...and how did he get to the desert, we will find out eventually...

Kacob will have answers for John, bring on episode 11...

The hotel meeting just makes me believe that Ben is the man in the coffin....but I do agree with whoever said above that both men being the others constant, that would be deep and brilliant..

Panny being threatebed with death, will Sayid do it, he knows about Penny from being on the boat with Des..maybe this is one killing too far....I really feel for Des..I hope he gets to be with her and live happily ever after..

the story deepens and is truely fantastic..what a great way to come back after the break...

and as I said so far this season, it really doesnt feel like a typical Lost episode, there is a pace and urgency that is really hieghtening teh tension, if they can keep this up for another 2 and a bit seasons I might take a heart attack before it ends...

Sawyer runs through the jungle...when he stops suddenly. He sees a flicker of light through the trees. He runs towards Jacob's cabin.

He finds Hurley sitting on the front stairs holding a torch. Ben & Locke are nowhere to be seen.

SAWYER: Hugo...Hugo...we gotta go!

Hurley sits up and sees Sawyer hiding behind some bushes, waving at him to come.

HURLEY: Sawyer?

Sawyer gives him the "shhh" sign and approaches cautiously, gun drawn.

SAWYER: C'mon, Big Boy, Helicopters are gettin ready to land...and you and I are getting a first class ticket off this rock! Where's Locke?

HURLEY: They're in there...talkin' to Jacob.

SAWYER: Good. I don't care if they're talkin to Obi Wan Kenobi...you and I are gettin the f....

LOCKE: Hold it there, James.

Lock has his gun out....Sawyer spins and points his gun at Locke.

SAWYER: Look, Ghandi...you got what you wanted...He led you to the cabin...now me and him are leaving.

LOCKE: Can't let you do that, James.

SAWYER: Why not?...and talk fast...We have a helicopter to catch!

LOCKE: That helicopter isn't taking you off this island, James.

SAWYER: Is that so? And who's gonna stop me? (Sawyer cocks his pistol).

LOCKE: Jacob.

A shot rings out from the dark...Sawyer is struck in the shoulder and falls to the ground. Ben stands up from behind a bush, and slings his rifle.

LOCKE: I'm sorry about that, James...but you didn't give us any choice...Hugo has a strong connection to Jacob...and we need him here.

BEN: Hugo...Let's go inside. Jacob wants a word with you.

Hurley looks at the motionless Sawyer on the ground...and looks up in anger at Ben & Locke.

HURLEY: Well...You can tell Jacob to go screw himself, dude. Because I'm tired of this...of ALL THIS!! I made a mistake...I should have never left Jack...He needs me...I can feel it.

LOCKE: Hugo...

HURLEY: Shut UP, John!...and the name is Hurley....and I'm takin my friend here back to the beach...and we are leavin this island forever! You can shoot me if you want...But we are leaving!

Hurley tosses his torch through the broken front window of the cabin. Ben and Locke scramble inside. Hurley lifts Sawyer up and drags him off into the darkness.

lists "Locke's Group" as consisting og John Locke, James, Hugo, Claire, Aaron and Benjamin Linus plus, briefly, Vincent (alive), Danielle, Alexandra, Karl, Jerome, Doug and "blonde woman" (dead) and Steve and "unknown red haired woman" as "status unknown". Miles Straume, hostage, is not mentioned.

So the three redshirts we saw die last night were Jerome, Doug and 'blonde'.

The listing for Danielle Rousseau is actually contradictory - her status is given as 'dead' but the write-up says she was 'injured' in her last shown appearance.

As you know, Sawyer told Hurley that Steve was sleeping with Tracy, a married mother of two from San Diego. Some people suspect this one-off casual mention of an otherwise never seen character was simply inserted in order to refute the rumors that Steve and his close friend and seemingly constant companion, the late Scott, were the shows token gay couple. The middle aged redheaded woman identified as "unknown" appears to be the right age to be a mother and housewife, so it is possible, but not yet verified, that she is "Tracy" of the "Stacy 'ship". (Steve + Tracy = Stacy).

Vincent was sent on a decoy mission carrying Charlotte's transponder and is currently with the Jack group. As of last night Sawyer, Claire, Aaron and Miles are trying to make their way back to the beachfront Jack group. Of the five redshirts that were with Team Locke three are dead and apparently Locke, Ben and Hurley have left the Otherton barracks area in search of Jacob's cabin without giving any thought to the whereabouts of the remaining members of the group.

At this point it is not known if Steve and his female compatriot, who may be Tracy, were killed during the attack by the Freighties assault squad, were killed during the attack by the smoke monster or are alive and, if so, are trying to catch up with Locke and company, return to the Jack group (in spite of Steve's reported dislike of Jack) or are simply heading off into the jungle to live on their own. At this point no one has yet suggested that they pass through a Dharma time anomaly and become the Adam and Eve skeletons in the caves near the waterfall and fresh water spring. But the possibility has not been conclusively ruled out, either. The skeletons were found with black and white rocks similar to the playing pieces from Locke's Backgammon set and Steve and 'Tracy(?)' were part of Locke's group before he abandoned him. I think this is reasonable evidence to support idle speculation that 1.) "Stacy" are Adam & Eve and 2.) Locke is indeed a piss poor captain.

on second viewing it was also a bit all over the place, but stll really great and moved the WTF? factor up a few notches.

i was an alias watcher, but it lost me when it got a little too ridiculous with the ball of water and zombie people, and then in the end it just gets solved in a really lacklustre and pathetic way.

i really hope that doesn't happen with LOST. I'm really hopeful.

(Just a little over the top satire of your comments from last week Nap when you called me a criminal for sharing free or next to free TV. I probably should get over that. You really are a good guy - don't know why that chapped my ass so much. Probably because it is alot of work, I get NOTHING out of it, and then catch grief for it...it was too much for my fragile psyche. I'll get over it. You just be you)

But MUSIC. And Feature Films. Stuff that you put your $$$ down THEN you get the entertainment. When that stuffis paid for by one person, and they spread it around the world for free - THAT IS THE PROBLEM. I look at it as - If I d/l it, I wasn't going to spend money to see it anyway. And then if I happen to like it - I'll go to a theatre and give them my $10 to see it on the big screen. If I didn't like it - well, I wouldn't havepaid for it anyway. Helps when you can burn it and watch in HD onna 52inch TV though ;>}

Point is, they want the dudes (God bless them) that sneak digital cams into theatres and record a cam version and put it up on Pirate Bay risking prison time so we can check out a flick we might not have otherwise paid for. They want those guys behind bars. They are the SOURCE of the problem. Music is more difficult cause anyone can distribute stuff easily. But they arrest a few they pick out that have done a TON of damage w/uploading hundereds of albums. They grab them, make a big scene, fine them half a million and try to scare people.

IN THE END...what I do? A couple dozen free TV shows a year that I put out there, seed for 2 or 3 days and then shut it down and hide it all on reserve drive...Feds and Television could care less about that. If I sold it - I'd be busted in 48 hours. But what I do - fart in the wind. I NEVER share motion pics or music, so I keep the EYES off of me. If they pic up a blip about a guy in NC torrenting a popular ABC show, they'll ask - is he selling it as a service site or per episode? And the "special agant" will say, "no - he starts a torrent, a couple hundered jump on, it's an hourlong show so he probably moved out 100 copies in 3 days - all for free. He's off line now he's done until the next week's show, same pattern"

And you know what? They laugh at the small numbers and the lack of a money trail and they get back to REAL internet Pirating and Copyright Fraud.

How do I know this? Many friends. Several at Quantico that were hired ahead of me out of college (bastards). But a GREAT source of info.

Much like the JTS group, AICN is a media discussion group - in this case one devoted to sci-fi and fantasy TV and films, escapism and comics. Even within a talkback about a specific show, you have a forum of like minded people who may share other common interests. A discussion of the best shows on TV might begin with Lost and extend to BSG - or even Dexter, which is not technically a sci-fi or fantasy show, except in regards to typical super-hero/vigilante adolescent power fantasies. Certainly AICN may sponser specific talkbacks for BSG, such as this current one

but if the point is to contain a discussion of BSG to a group of fellow Lost fans, then a Lost talkback it the place to do it.

Apparently some Lost (and BSG) fans engage in downloading the show from peer-to-peer file sharing sites. There was some controversy in the news about a decade ago about how this practice can lead to some cases of copyright infringement. Sometimes when laws - even international copyright laws - are broken, the commision of the violation can be, by some extreme stretch of the term, considered a criminal act.

In discussing this I recall citing that one of the minor objects of the writers strike was for the creators of copyrighted material to receive royalties when their work is downloaded. In general, most people engaging in P2P file sharing do not pay royalties on the material they trade.

Still, P2P file sharing is a very minor violation. When someone saves a single digital copy of a program for personal use and then uploads or 'seeds' a file sharing site giving hundreds of other people, some of whom are strangers, access to the material, no money is actually LOST because the program is not currently available for purchase. and when the DVD is eventually released, everyone who cared enough about the show buys a legal copy and everyone gets paid, so no revenues are LOST.

Personally, I do not engage in P2P file sharing or downloading. Not because I don't like getting free stuff, but because I don't have the disposable income to treat computers like Bic lighters and buy a new one every time I get a virus.

According to the AOL Active Security Monitor "P2P programs allow users to share files over a file sharing network. Using P2P programs increases your risk to attacks from viruses, worms and other malicious programs."

Now if other people want to use P2P sites, that's their personal business. Now, I did break the laws against possession and use of marijuana on occasion during the late '70s, and my advice is that if someone is going to be breaking the laws, even in regards to something that 'all the cool kids are doing' and is "practically legal," it might be best not to discuss it in a public forum.

I also see a distinction between doing your own marginally illegal activities and actively encouraging other people to do so. A person might say with 100% certainty that the material they upload is completely virus free and they might recommend a P2P program, service and site that they are confident is free of malware, spyware and adware. But not everyone is as smart or as careful as you might think or hope. Give someone the key to the candy store and tell them "only download this show from this source" and they may very well start getting shows, movies, comics and music from other sources as well, some of which may include malicious coding that could damage their computer.

Someone might also, for example, inadvertanly offend someone by stating unequivocably that an uncensored copy of an episode of Dexter either taped off of Showtime or downloaded from a P2P site is inately superior to the edited version that has been airing on CBS and that the edited version is not worth watching. And a person who only has access to the broadcast television version and does not engage in PSP file sharing might respond to this with the typed equivelent to a rude gesture. But that would be childish.

Since many people here engage in file sharing, I don't want to alienate everyone here by making a big fuss over the matter. When the topic came up in this talkback I posted a message at 3.28.01 which covered some of the same points I've rephrased here. When a troll attacked someone for "video piracy" I refuted the claim at 3.43.24 and when someone else attacked the troll I pointed out that there are two sides to a discussion, here - 6.26.56. My side of the discussion is that it's not for everyone and it may be dangerous for some inexperiences users. Actually I'd be fine with it if every favorable mention of file sharing simply included the disclaimer "P2P programs allow users to share files over a file sharing network. Using P2P programs increases your risk to attacks from viruses, worms and other malicious programs" the way cigarette packs have warning labels. That seems like an apt comparison since a computer virus can be a lethal cancer for your think-box.

This is not my personal crusade, it's not even a topic I care much about. Oh, I had a friend who was downloading some Disney porn one day and was shocked to see that someone had downloaded a painting from his website and reposted it elsewhere, and try as I could I couldn't get him to see that he was being hypocritical. Another friend felt that a Chicago based comic book convention was 'ruined' when a couple of bootleg video dealers (that he frequented) were busted. His argument was that video/DVD bootleggers only offer material that is Not commercially available from other sources. That was not exactly correct, but that was the material that he was seeking.

As I was saying, this is not my crusade. I'd say that when I'm reading a talkback, at least 90% of the times when peer-to-peer file sharing is mentioned I just roll my eyes, shake my head and hold my tongue. Having posted a few remarks in this talkback, I'd said my piece on the topic, but my name was specifically brought up here, so I thought it would be rude not to reply.

Upthread someone here did post a link to access to the current episode of "Lost" under discussion at a P2P filesharing site called The Pirate Bay. They know what they are and make no (skull and crossed)bones about it. Their logo is a Pirate ship - their Jolly Roger has a tape for a skull. They have links to threatening letters from lawyers and corporations and proudly brag that they've never deleted anything that anyone's asked them to delete. They talk about how they've moved their servers from one country to another to avoid international laws. They offer no pretense about being "legal".

If someone uploads or 'seeds' material to file sharing sites and never downloads anything - that is, never acquires anything of cash value that would cost them money if they bought it in a store - I have to admit I don't understand why they do it. Is it some sort of revolutionary public service, a free speech issue? Generally P2P is a 2-way street - you share what you have and upload in order to have the right to download material as well. A loose bartering system. If someone does not get paid - that is, gets nothing of value in return for generously uploading their digital programs... why do it?

I write for my own entertainment, sometimes late into the night. I don't memorize everything I write - or even proofread all of it, unfortunately.

I do remember making the point about the writers strike and writers residuals and how their children need shoes. Even a child who engages in an occasional fast ought to have shoes. I recall being insulted over my taste in fantasy and non-fantasy television programs on several occasions and shrugging it off. I recall making disparaging comments about off-topic posting concerning sports broadcasts, BSG and P2P sharing, And I was out of line and hypocritical in doing that. I even remember using the Steve Ditko coined term "crimesters" in regard to P2P file sharing of copyrighted material. I do not specifically remember calling anyone by name a criminal but someone here believes I did and seems to be holding a bit of a grudge over it, to they extent that they even felt the need to ask me not to post comments at a blog they assist at.

It's time to raise the white flag and extend the olive branch of peace.

The sobering fact is that it would be hypocritical of me to do so. I was given moderator status and eventually ownership of a Yahoo! group that I began as an active posting member at - a BDSM photo sharing group called Bound_To_Please. Once a month or so I go through a bookmarked list of other groups and gallery websites and download the best pictures I can find on a variety of specific topics. Then I alter these in Photoshop by reversing and resizing them, airbrushing them, moving or deleting elements, cropping them, adding borders and, yes, in some case removing watermarks and copyright notices. Then I take these "stolen" pictures and repost them to my group. Sometimes as many as 100 per month. I justify my activity by claiming that it is a service for BDSM beginners - that I only post depictions of "mild" activity and no imitatable images of dangerous, violent, uncomfortable or threatening activities, as compared to many other sources of BDSM imagery on the Internet. But the plain fact is, I'm taking copyrighted images that do not belong to me and then reoffering them freely to a segment of the population. I am a filthy pornographer and a thief. And Edshrinker, what you do is in no way any worse than what I do, so if I called you a criminal, it was hypocritical of me, and I apologize. I regret that I posted anything that annoyed you enough that you're still dwelling on it weeks or months later. I am truly sorry.

You never used the word "criminal" and "Ed is" in the same sentence. You just constantly alluded to my offering of BSG and Lost to some of the folks who post here and elsewhere as criminal activity and an act that takes food and clothes away from folks in the entertainment business. Yes - that kind of thinking does chap my ass. I just made my case above 11:47:13 - my information comes from the 6 or 7 friends I have in the FBI Cyber Crimes Unit, some in Milwaukee (past hometown, went to school in Madison...they made the employee profile, I did not, but we remain friends). My explanation is paraphrased, but accurately sums up the current LEGAL thinking on TV file sharing. Like you, I wonder why anyone would go through all the effort to sneak a camera into a theater to give us pirated movies. Wow - that is alot of effort. Risking that, then reformattng it, then attaching your name and IP to it - seems alot of risk asking nothing in return. Some say the same of me...but my risk is as close to Null as statistically possible. There is time and effort, however (I won't bore you as to what goes into prepping an ep of LOST to go out on The Pirate Bay for instance). I do it because I have received soooo much wonderful stuff from P2P activity and because of programs like Windows defender and PeerGuardian - in 10+ years of P2P activity, I have NEVER ONCE downloaded a virus, bundle, or trojan. Nothing ever piggybacked and only 2x in 10 years has anything ever tried. So I feel, Napoleon, you are misinformed about the scare scenario you offer up to all those who may not know any different. In the previous talkback you mentioned a new action figure or toy and described Jack as the shows best character and I made a flippant comment to express my disagreement. You counter-argued that he was, from season one on, the shows "lead" or "star" character. And that, frankly, I can't argue with. I've generally found the Jack and Kate ship and those characters and their back stories the least interesting part of the series, just as I find almost all of the other characters on "Grey's Anatomy" more interesting than the shws title character and the MerDer 'ship.

They slapped Jack Shephard's punim on the season one box sets cover, so I won't argue that the promo department didn't consider him the "face of the show" - the lead, the star if you will. But the word "best" indicates a value judgement and an opinion, not an unarguable fact.

Then since he first appeared as Henry Gale, I've found Ben Linus fascinating, though after the final minutes of this latest episode, when he let the monster show again during his encounter with Widmore, he certainly can't be considered likable.

You had posted something about the Saymondites jumping groups. I was bemused at first about all the discussion of Team this guy and Team that guy, but I have always declared for "Team out of focus girl in a yellow bikini walking around in the background" and have never changed allegiances. We were promised a show with 48 airplane crash survivors, so I stand with the followers, extras, nameless background characters and "redshirts" like Scott and Steve, Lance, Neil, Tracy, Cindy, Emma, Zach, etc. I'd claim Rose (who was gone half the first season) and Bernard (who no one but Rose thought was alive until year two) but I know how possessive you are over Team Jack members. Joanna is our founder, the words of Leslie Arzt, who said "I know a clique when I see one" is our motto. And Jerome, Doug and "blonde casualty" are our newest martyrs. I worry for Steve and "unknown redheaded female" who may or may not be Tracy. That son of a bitch John Locke said "If you want to live, you need to come with me." and they did and got gunned down like shooting gallery targets and he abandoned two group members and three fallen comrades without a glance back. His words "sounds like a piss poor captain" come back to haunt him.

They say a captain goes down with his ship, but if Jack does get off the island and leaves his half-sister Claire, his friend Juliet, Jin, Sawyer, Rose, Bernard, Desmond and the dozen background players listed as being part of his group plus Cindy and the children behind, then being incapacitated with a life threatening medical emergency condition is about the only possible excuse that makes sense.

Picking favorite characters for imaginary team leaders is all good fun, but we're all devoted fans of the same show. Declare for Team Lost! and I'm with you.

But I do not think Ben Linus is as cunning and infallible as he makes himself out to be. He's good at improvising and taking charge of opportunities, though trying to talk his way out of Alexandra's execution backfired on him badly. Some people seem to think he engineered Nadia's killing to acquire Sayid - I don't, but he was clearly pleased with how it turned out. But to address the one point you made that I strongly disagree with, I do not believe Ben knew Charlotte was wearing a bullet proof vest when he grabbed that gun and shot her. I think he intended to kill her and was surprised when she got back up - or would have been if he wasn't busy getting one of his well deserved beat-downs.

Not saying I buy into your other ideas, but they're all quite creative.

Well, I believe a lot of misinformation I read in magazines or in the Internets, but I also learn from other people's mistakes.

I knew a guy close to your age whose mom buys nice things for him. He had a computer a lot better than mine and screwed it up when he uninstalled Zone Alarm so he could download some Hentai from a P2P site. Last I heard he has to unplug it to shut it off. AICN is a public forum and considering the vulgarity, libel, slander and threats, I'm not sure what isn't allowed. If someone posts a group participation game, I'm a team player and I participate. Actually Blogger is also a public forum and you were the one that convinced the blog owner to open it up to unmoderated posting.

And the neat thing about a public forum is you really can't misrepresent what happened there when anyone can go and check the facts. You say I answered the questions ten minutes after they went up? Actually, you posted one set of questions with your own answers simultaneously and answered another set one hour after you posted them. You point out I replied - in all caps no less - to every set of questions. This is not factual. I didn't answer the first set or the next to last set, and I didn;t post answers to the last set at the blog. And as I mentioned before in the other talkback, I've got several years of group moderator experience at Yahoo! groups so if someone asks a question I hate to leave it hanging unanswered. Especially if they're actually trying to get a fun group participation activity going.

Out of curiousity, I checked the room 23 blog to see when the "5Q for Darlton" interviews and my answers were posted.

The first game, I didn't respond to. The second game (Redtoad) was actually posted inside the comments section at room 23. You answered less than an hour after it went up, I added a second set of comments 8.5 hours later. I did jump in and reply to gotilk's set about two hours after they were posted. So far no one else has answered them. I posted a set of questions to the talkback and you reposted them to the blog, then answered them about four hours later. So far no one else has answered them. Brody wrote a set you posted to the blog and I replied 9.5 hours later. I responded to Nodecodes set six hours after they were posted. So far no one else has answered them. I did jump on MP's set three hours after they were posted. Fishies wrote a set and the Q's and A's were posted simultaneously by you. So far no one else has answered them. brog77 posted a "nice set" of Q's. I replied at the talkback seven hours later and did not repost my answers to the blog, just a link to my Yahoo group Napoleon_Park where I reposted them. So far no one else has answered them.

Obviously in this forum there's a time limit. Who logs in and then scrolls up to read the last ten hours or 200 posts worth of material? Is someone asks a question or poises a riddle or something, you really have to get on it before it's forgotten.

I'm pretty sure that two or three of those interview writers did post "thank you"s addressed to me for answering their clever questions when no one else would. Sorry if I don't feel like sifting through that 3500+ post talkback to figure out who, but if I didn;t say so before, "You're welcome."

Your position, as stated repeatedly above - seems to be that by playing a game I prevented anyone else from playing. Even though the questions were posted on the main page of the blog where anyone could read them or cut'n'paste them and my replies were buried in the comments section. And my opposing view is that If I hadn't stepped up to try to generate some group activity, no one else was going to - and so far, no one else has.

I never gave much credence to Jack in the jungle post crash as anythng more than a landing spot in the crash. But comparing the wake up between Ben and Jack - it is eerie. I'm afraid though (while a FANTASTIC IDEA) is not reality. Why?

1. No Cold Breath upon waking from the transport. I think its established (With Ben wearing the Dharka and freezing in the Sahara upon wakin) that the "trip" EXTREMELY lowers your temp.

2. Jack was on the Plane in established timeline.

3. There is nothing about memory loss as a side effect...unless Jack is REALLY good at faking he is just a crash victim all this time

4. No tell tale injury to left arm. A bit of a reach here (pun intended) Halliwax LOST his left arm. Ben has a HUGE gash on his. The tech has a flaw that needs to be worked on methinks.

5. Mobisode 13. Christian and Vincent. "Wake up my son" and all that. Jack was traveling home to bury hisdad after begging Oceanic to bend a very big rule. He was on a plane...not in a Dharma station time traveling. What happen to that Jack if "this Jack in the JUngle" is a time traveler?

there is more. It is such a FUN theory, but I don't think it holds weight. Ironically - If Jack gets to use it and he DOES return, I think he will appear close to his pose in the Pilot, in the jungle...but this time breathing out condensation and with a big gash on his left arm. And Kate will run over and say - "Hey you! Why are you in a parka!"

Psychologically, it is a way to avoid conflict while still holding serve on why the other person is a screw up. I have done it myself.

If you want Nap to post - that is your call it is your baby, Paul. He has a lot of great stuff to offer. He would certainly add a unique voice. Pardon me for a second... Cap'n Jack, Room 23 is a fan site at blogger. It's a collection of material pertaining to Lost assembled by fans of the show. It may not conform to the highest professional standards you might expect from a commercial website, but it doesn't have to. It was begun as a spin-off from the previous Lost talkback (as well as last summers 10,000 post epic) and the main purpose is to have a place where people who want to post and read spoilers about the show may do so while leaving them out of the Lost talkbacks at AICN for the benefit of those fans who prefer to remain spoiler free.

You stated in writing three times that you were upset that I called you a name - I issued a formal written apology to which you replied that I never acually said what you got me to apologize for. Okay, that was fun.

You also clarified that your asking me not to participate in the "5Q for Darlton" games wasn't related to that. You brought that up and made some misstatememnts of fact which I clarified. Since I can string more than a couple of paragraphs together on the same topic you labeled it a "story" which implies fiction. Actually, when you said I posted responses to the interview Q's ten minutes after they were posted, or posted to every single interview, that was the fiction.

I did, however, just notice that enough people have stopped chattering about Superman, Hobbits and that weak Batman poster that swiped the burning logo concept from the Daredevil and Punisher movies that the Lost talkback about one of the year's best episodes is finally in the #1 slot on the talkback top ten list, where it belongs.

Well, I was thinking about the misleading spoilers for this ep. Yeah, I read spoilers sometimes, though I'd avoid a complete episode synopsis. Anyway, Room 23 invisotexted [tm] a mention that there would be deaths by three background players or "redshirts" and one "minor major" character. Actually, I think it said "a major character depending on what your definition of "major character" is.

So someone watching the ep could see doc Ray wash ashore and think, well, he's a well known actor who's been in several episodes, so that must be the "relatively major" character. That way Alexandra's execution still came as something of a surprise. (Or would have if she hadn't been specified by name in a different spoiler)

But back to the point about more adult content in the later time slot... anyone think this episode was more violent that usual?

Doc Ray washed ashore with his throat visibly, though not TOO graphically, slashed. Desert parka Ben with king fu grip and collapsible nunchuck shoots a guy and leaves a unconscious guy in the desert to die. Three redshirts are capped. Alex is executed. Sayid's wife is killed (off camera). Sayid empties a clip into the man who killed his wife. Smokey slaughters the "frighter" assault team - reportedly a six man squad, though Keamy is shown alive in the preview - that means five dead soldiers, although we only saw one dragged off into the red vapor. Ben would happily have truncheoned the hotel maitre-d. Ben vows to kill Penelope. Oh, Locke and Sawyer draw on each other and Jack's dying of apendicitis. Violent much?

With all that mayhem, not much time for sexual tittilation. Still, an enticing glimpse of bare-shoullder Kate provocatively and seductively slipping out of her top strap. Alex handcuffed and blindfolded on her knees for the perverts in the audience. Claire lying on the ground under a blanket. Brief glimpses of Juliet, Sun and Charlotte, though nothing too lingering. So, low scores on the sexual pandering, but they ramped up the violence. Maybe they're saving the sexy for the Jack-centric episode.

How in the hell can I ever hold a grudge if you are going to go and something as brilliant as that.

I refer to your interpretation that "The hunt is on" means Ben looking for Pen and Widmore for the Island. A lot of folks post wack theories about things they seem to have misunderstood about the show. When I saw that scene I got the impression that Penny was on the island with Desmond and that Ben was off the island and didn't know how to find his way back home. But your version makes a lot more sense.

Imaginary scene I'd like to see: Widmore's in bed reading, there's an elevator "ding" noise, he looks up, the elevator doors in his penthouse suite slide open... and the smoke monster comes charging in like a train out of Hell.

to see it come flying out of the elevator shaft would be enough to put me in my grave.

The story he told Sayid about sailing in on the Elisabeth on the "heading" seemed contrived. I assumed if he couldn't get back...it is because he physically left this time. I thought the same thing you did, Napoleon. Fishy's is MUCH more nerve rattling from the standpoint - most of us really want Pen and Des to sail off or shack up in paradise or whatever.

How can Des protect Penny if Ben can scoot around and Des is stuck on Craphole Is.? Cripes I hate the thought. And I don't want to believe Ben could do it if Pen and Des are standing there...

then I think of Ben's face when he miscalculated and Widdy broke the rules - and Alex went down.

And I think of Locke in the pit and Ben just weeks ago in Island time popping him in the missing kidney

And gassing dad and dozens of Dharma folks

Des and Pen would stand there side by side smiling, and Ben would be smiling...

And he would shoot her 3 times in the ample chest while Des developed the same look on his face Ben had when Alex was shot.

We don't know where many of the Losties were dumped when they crashed. I've seen a whole lot of posters call shennanigans because Jack woke up in the jungle and he "knew" to run to the beach and knew where the beach was.

1.) - We didn't actually see Ben teleport - he might have been drugged or knocked out, put in a freezer or cryostasis chamber and shipped to the desert, then abandoned. But I doubt it - that wouldn't account for the vibration effect as he awoke. My thought was that he either teleported from a freezing environment or he was supposed to be teleporting to one. but the theory put up here about the actual function of the teleporter requiring sub-freezing temperatures actually makes more sense.

Ben is a monster. Not like Smokey, but a truly deeply disturbed and dangerous human monster. Ed fic'd a scene of Ben capping Pen three times in the chest while Dez watched. I think Ben is el monstro but not necessarily a sadist. And I don't recall if he has anything against Desmond. I think, given the opppostunity, Ben would execute Penelope mob hit style - small caliber handgun, one to the back of the neck, one to the temple. I don't think he's have the nerve to do it in front of Desmond - a small caliber handgun would barely slow down an angry Scot. I don't think Ben wants Penny to suffer - she's only a pawn in his game. He would get her down on her knees at gunpoint and make her beg for her life... but only if Charles Widmore was watching. And several people upthread mentioned Sayid killing Penny or Desmond killing Sayid in defense of Penny. I DO NOT believe that Sayid Jarrah would kill an innocent on Ben Linus's say so. Especially after someone killed Nadia to strike at him.

3.) - And, really folks, wack theories are fun, but all of the Ben flashforward scenes were that - scenes occuring in chronological order in the future... well, 2005 is our past, but the Island is still stuck in 2004, so, well you know what I meant. No time traveling. On October 23rd, 2005 Ben Linus teleports from some other location to that desert. Because leaving the island can cause that Desmond/constant temporeal displacement thing, he asked about the date to be certain of when and where he was. That's it. Unless I'm wrong.

...it is so hard to believe the relative age of that blog. But as for why Jack would go straight to help Claire... well, back in the early '80s in the Atari 2600 era there was a bootleg Atari compatible game that basically involved driving like a maniac and running down pedestrians and according to the scoring system "pregnant women count as two."

That's just minutae, of course. Currently, from what we've seen both on the island in the 2004 "present" and in the flash-forward future scenes, so far Jack is unaware that Claire is his half-sister. So, why does Claire fail to get off the Island? How does Kate wind up with Aaron? and Why does Jack not want to see Aaron? Currently, we don't know.

(Actually it's not 100% confirmed that Kate's baby Aaron IS actually Claire's baby Aaron - but it certainly seems likely.)

Has it occurred to you lot that you NEED Gotham? Cliques need outsiders to exclude and Good Guys need a mutual foe to unite them.

I don’t think Claire was in the house. Of course, I could be wrong about this, but Sawyer asked that first guy who got shot if he saw if Claire left her house that morning. After he turned over the picnic table he was shouting for her. It could be that she was outside when the house exploded. Then again, Hugo said she was there after Locke told him to get the baby away from the window, so who knows.

Ding dong. With all the fire power and the explosion and the panic and mayhem...and as Sawyer is grabbing Ben saying it’s not such a bad idea to throw Ben to the wolves, Miles walks up and rings the doorbell. That’s hilarious.

For those that don’t think Ben is still in control of the island in the future, Sayid asked him how he got off the island after he tackled him in Iraq. Considering Sayid is one of the O6 and probably knows who was on the island when they left, and considering what Widdy says at the end of this episode, I’d say Ben being in control of the island is a pretty safe bet.

Ben manipulated Sayid...conned him into being his assassin. And he did it by lying, because Widdy did not kill Nadia...Ben had her killed. He knew of Sayid’s heart and what would make him think with it, and he intentionally turned Sayid’s own heart into a cold place. And he’s lied to him and told him Widmore did it so Sayid could focus his anger in the direction that will most benefit Ben.

You gotta love this character.

The smokie scene was about as good/bad as possible. Ben watching the carnage with a “mess with me, huh” attitude, Hurley asking if he called it, Miles and astonishment at what he was seeing. But when Locke asked him “What did you do?”, it seemed like he knew this was not supposed to happen...that what Ben had done was wrong...against the rules.

I know it’s easy to say anything after you know for sure what it is, but I totally called appendicitis during the Morse code scene.

The last scene with Ben and Widdy may be one of the best scenes in TV history. Ben accuses Charles of killing his daughter, Widdy says not to look at him with those horrible eyes and that Ben in fact killed that poor girl, Ben says it’s not true and he’s going to kill Penny so Charles regrets changing the rules. “I know who you are, boy...what you are. I know everything you have you took from me.”

We know who Ben is too. He’s a liar. A con. A person who will do and say anything to get to his desired outcome. So Widdy may be right about Ben. But Widdy may also be just as bad. In war, or even in games (and I do think this is a game of some sorts between these 2), it’s not as simple as some folks would have you believe. There’s not always good and evil. Sometimes all sides are bad. And when Ben said he was going to kill Penny, Charles didn’t flinch. In fact, he referred to it as a hunt...a game.

Now, to expand/give more thought on my “the gods” theory. Widmore says that island is his, “always has been.” What appears to be the ancient ruins of a giant 4-toed statue is on the island, so “always” would seem to be a very long time. That would seem to indicate Widdy’s been around quite a long while. We think others on the island have been around for a bit too. So are they immortals, as the gods were called?

The statue theory posted a few weeks back was that it was the Colossus of Rhodes, a tribute to the God Helios. Helios was oft times confused with Apollo. A few hundred years after the statue fell, a rich man is said to have bought the ruins.

So whether you agree with this or not, you have to consider that Widmore may have been around then and bought the ruins hundreds of years after they fell. Why would he want them. Well, when someone pays a tribute to you in such a fashion as building such a huge statue of you...

Yes. I think Widmore may be an aged Apollo. And he’s being bested by a lying mortal conman.

I may be wrong, but it’s out there in print for you to use against me later.

From the opening pill-popping scene and through several other moments, Jack kept reaching back and rubbing his back. I assumed that his wound - remember Kate stitching him up like a curtain with needle and thread in the pilot? - had finally gotten infected and was giving him trouble. Yes, the Island magickally seems to speed healing, but it also heals selectively - Locke can walk and survive a gunshot, but the cut on his face leaves him permanently scarred. And the guy whose leg Jack set in a splint in the pilot: we've never actually seen him walk again, have we?

So, sorry, Brighteyes, but Jack is well intentioned but not always a good leader. In this episode he states at one point his gut tells him they're really getting off the island, then seems devastated when Faraday tells him "No... no" in reply to the question "Were you ever going to take us off this Island?" They say that a Higher Power can both give and take away. If The Island or one of the Island's manifestations (Smokey, Jacob, the apparitions, the healing properties) is such a power, perhaps it can heal and unheal. It gives wellness to the deserving, and if they mess up, it can take it away.

We've already discussed how a debilitating and life threatening medical emergency is what makes Dr. Jack abandon his charges and gets him off the island, so the question would be, if The Island makes Jack's appendix swell and rupture... and that's what gets him off the Island... then is it a punishment, a reward or a banishment? Hmmm?

In the context of the show I think the name applies to more than the shape. That is, I know those Goldfish [tm[ crackers or the generic Whales aren;t actually fish flavored, but I'd assume the fishbiscuits actually are protein enriched with ground fishmeal. Not they you'd want to make something that tastes like dog biscuits or cat treats to serve at a party... or wedding. Not to flirt with a married or engaged lady, but you've shown an affinity or at least a tolerance for double entendres in the past, so may I ask, did you notice that picture of the cook at the bottom of the article, her mouth invitingly opened, the large oval head of the bright salmon colored fishbiscuit approaching, it's orifice mouth opened equally wide, preparing to share it's cream-filled goodness... You see what I'm getting at? Anyone else notice that, or is it just me and my dirty mind again?

2.) We're not all moderator wannabes here, either. 4we8 actually is the moderator of the Lostroom 23 blog, and I moderate 4 Yahoo! groups - one I actually founded and three by invitation, some some people seem to appreciate my efforts.

Seriously, you have an eccentric personality and a unique style - as random as your non-sequitors sometimes are, they're usually recognizable as your 'style'. Sometimes you actually participate in discussion with valid points and people have hope that you can be "domesticated" if not 'tamed'. Other times you're just randomly rude and vulgar and insulting. Which is what inspires people to target you and respond in kind. I don't think everyone here is mean - though personally I am a sadist - they just don;t think it's mean to swat a mosquito or step on a roach. Act like a pest, get treated as one.

I was semi-serious when I said I hoped Leobloom was your new imaginary friend - that is, an alternate ID so you could talk to yourself when no one else would.

And i was very serious a while back when I addressed you and suggested you get a new ID and reserve it exclusively for showing off only the 'good' side of your personality - even if it means actually creating a fictitious persona and "pretending to be nice". That's all a lot of us really do, after all - we're born sinners and innately bad people with rotten upbringings who, at some point, may have made a conscious decision to be good. We meet people and think bad things, but we try not to say them. We see things we'd like to steal, but we restrain ourselves. As Captain kirk once said, we wake up and tell ourselves "I'm not going to kill... today."

Sorry if being spoken to freaks you out, I fully expect you to respond by calling me a narc and a feces eater. Lapidus seems like a nice guy. Perhaps his drinking problem is related to guilt. Keamy was described by Ben's information as a good, distinguished Marine who then became a less than noble mercenary. I suspect Frank Lapidus has a similar back-story arc - a relatively good man who's gone into work-for-hire - including some things he isn't proud of such as flying mercenaries around - just because, well you work to survive (and buy booze) and he has a pilot's license, so flying is what he does what he's good at and what he loves.

Unrelated non-LOST note; I refuse to use the Americanized misnomer "Sahara Desert". My Junior College science teacher told us that the word "Sahara" means desert. So saying Sahara Desert (the desert desert) is silly, like ATM machine (automated teller machine machine) or DC Comics (Detective Comics Comics).

Yeah, Goth guy, I think you're right. The Island has bizarre properties and forces which can be harnessed or contained in different ways. It seems Dharma was trying to see if they could use that as a power source for teleportation. and while that's generally considered sci-fi, there was an actual science article a few years ago that stated that Star Trek style teleportation might be possible, but actually deconstructing something down to an atomic level and then rebuilding it someone else would require incredibly vast quantities of energy. Which the Island seems to possess.

I haven't seen it (or, if it was on the show, I don't remember it) but someone described a Dharma test film that showed that they were conducting tests on the numbered rabbits - those might have been teleportation or time travel/chrono-temporal disparity tests. Logically they would have progessed to using larger animals, such as one of their polar bears.

It's been suggested above that the teleportation process involves extremely low temperatures, so a polar bear, which is accustomed to low temperatures, would be an ideal test subject and explain why Ben was wearing the Dharka (Dharma parka). I don't know what kind of carrion eating animals and birds or carnivorous insects live in the Tunisian desert or what the rate of decay for half a ton of meat would be, so I can't say how long it would take for a polar bear to be reduced to skeletal remains. Time travel May have been involved, but I'm not sure that bear skeleton was as ancient as the presence of an archeologist would seem to imply.

It's also been mentioned above that in the Dharma orientation films Dr. Wickman or Candlewax or whatever his name is had one arm, and Ben's sleeve and arm were partially cut in the same location.

So the sequence would seem to be that the Dharma Initiative discovered the Islands strange properties, figured out how to harness them (the button), figured out how to use them as a power source for their teleportation experiments, and began experimenting, perhaps with a fly or some mice, then the numbered rabbits, then larger subjects including the polar bear Charlotte found in Tunisia. Finally with a human test subject. That may be how Dr. Marvin Candlewaxmanwick or whatever lost his arm. Then, either feeling the process was safe enough or his need was urgent enough, Ben used it and wound up in the Sahara on October 23rd, 2005... which may or may not be the day he left from his point of origin.

I don't think Alvar Hanso is a chimp. It's been assumed that he's human,though apparently someone has an interesting theory that he may be an ancient mythological god. Seems not-too-closely-fetched but at this point the show is getting so strange that it's hard to conclusively rule anything out. We'll all know in about two years and getting there is most of the fun, right?

He attacks and is disarmed, he and Sawyer fight, superior training tells and he puts the knife in, the miles redeems himself and establishes his new layalties by putting a twenty opound rock through the back of his skull. Or, option #3.) - Benjamin. In the laboratoory. with a scalpel. for days. and days. And what's left is used to see how many different places one body can be teleported to at once. Bits of Keamy spread over all twelve vile vortices.

So don't get too attached to him... he's fishmeal.

Actually if you go all the way back to the very first articles AICN posted about "This new JJ Abrams show, Lost" one of the first things we knew was that theire were 48 survivors of an arliner crash on a pacific island that had polar bears and a "monster shaking the trees in the jungle". Some folks made a connection with King Kong's monster island as well as the 'something in the jungle' punchline of some movie the name of which I've forgotten. Kong fought Godzilla, Godzilla comes from the pacific ocean, and in the pilot something pulled Seth Norris out of the cockpit, ripped him apart and left him dangling in a tree, so some people jumped to the assumption that it might have been some T-rex sized redatory "monster" and certainly no one was gussing "smoke monster" or 'electomagnetically charged metal filing mnster' at that time. So if you went all the way back to the speculation that was around immediately before or after the series debut and factor in the fact that Lost co-creator JJ Abrams movie "Cloverfield" was an atempt to crate an American Gojira movie, then the godzilla comparison is not entirely far fetched or off the wall.

And you realize that 'do my laundry' doesn't really seem to have any clear double entendre connotations, right? maybe you were thinking "clean my shorts"? Handle my unmentionables?

Ratings down in the new time slot. "Lost," 7.6/13. Good for 2nd place, behind "Without a Trace." What I can't believe is that "Are you Smarter than a 5th grader" and "Don't forget the Lyrics" score better ratings than NBC's powerhouse comedy shows. I guess you can't underestimate the American viewing audience!

I, too, feared after the slow start of Season 3 of LOST (anyone wishing for more 'Kate and Sawyer breaking up rocks' scenes?), that we were about to have another "Twin Peaks" on our hands. That TPTB didn't have a direction...that there was no one at the rudder...that the candle that burns brightest...burns out twice as fast.

There were moments for me during Season 3 where each new episode actually filled me with dread...dread that the story would take a turn down a path that I could not follow. Luckily for me, once the "mini-pod" of the first 6 episodes unfurled...and the second stretch of the season grew with intensity with each passing episode...until it was speeding like a freight train without brakes down a mountainside.

Then came the news that Darlton had reached the agreement with ABC to set the End Date for LOST...that there would be no need to "pad" episodes to delay the stampede to the finish line any further.

I gotta tell ya...that finish line still scares me...for two reasons. The first, is that nagging fear that LOST could STILL take that wrong turn...I dunno...where it becomes too "Stargate SG-1" for me...and starts to become less based in reality...and more into the supernatural realm...or, I should say, the super-dupernatural realm, as much of LOST is currently treading the supernatural aspects already....But in a "Twilight Zone" and not "X-Files" sort of way. Many of you know, Cheif Brody ain't fond of "time travel"...and "teleportation" in my LOST stew...BOTH of which appear to be factoring in the ingredients. However, as I have also said, as long as it's explained away as being 'only possible' because of the island's unique, organic properties, I'm giving Darlton a wide pass on these matters. Now...if we get shown, for instance, that inside Ben's lil 'Mancave' there sits a UFO that crashed on the island long ago...and some of the aliens are playing cards with Bigfoot and the Smoke Monster down there...well, that could be enough for me to start TiVoing LOST and watching "MILF Island" instead. But when an episode that begins with Ben apparently having just "teleported" from somewhere, I am more than willing to suspend my disbelief for the awesomeness that followed. I have faith that TPTB will eventually explain what went on there in the Sahara Desert was, at least, reasonably plausible....that has nothing to do with aliens playing Texas Hold-Em somewhere. But...that nagging fear is always there.

The second fear I have about the finish line...is just that. The finish line!! If LOST continues to barrell forward...constantly impressing me by re-inventing itself...and zigging where I was expecting a zag...by consistently shocking me week after week...well...I don't WANT it to end! If LOST bucks tradition...and keeps firing on all cylinders...and doesn't somehow 'drop the ball'...or...'jump the Dharma Shark'...like so many great shows before it have done...then May 2010 will be a heartbreaking month for me, my friends. When I finally have to say goodbye to Jin...and Sun...and Hurley...Jack...Kate...Locke and Sawyer...and even bug eyed Benjiman...It'll be tough. If...IF...LOST can keep that freight train on the tracks THAT long...we, as TV fans...will have witnessed something very special, indeed.

But...Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.

I can do one liners and direct statements, but usually I figure if it's not a few paragraphs, what's the point. On the other hand, if I write something and it doesn't all fit on the page without scrolling, I figure I may have overshot my mark.

1.)- The Plan to break Season 3 in half in order to avoid the season two curse of preempts, delays, reruns and sweeps related postponements was a sound one. Splitting it into a small chunk and a big one, questionable. Though quite a lot of the long part was faith renewing. The six-episode Lost mini-series had some good moments starting with the opening book club/plane crash scene. It introduced the others compound, the "other island," drove a Sawyer sized wedge into the Jate 'ship, gave us the classic Ben's back surgery scene. And, um, appealed to the segment of the audience that likes watching people have sex while kept in cages. And if it seemed limited and covered some of the same ground over and over, the best defense I can suggest is that it introduced some key players (Juliet, Mr. Friendly, Karl. etc.) and plot threads and yet managed to tie up in six parts without starting a whole lot of new dangling plot elements. In other words, a failed experiment, maybe, that worked fairly well for what it was - a self contained six-part mini-arc.

2.)- I agree and have frequently stated that I rejected the season one theories about Smokey being nano-bots, and was reluctant to buy into time travel as recently as "The Constant". I preferred the idea of Lost as a character driven anthology based in realism, but apparently there's enough weirdness on the island and in the lives of its occupants that a lot of it will need sci-fi and fantasy/supernatural/occult elements to explain it all.

Still, it's not all about my comfort, and I do enjoy the constant WTF did-not-see-that-coming twists and surprises, where ever that may lead.

I co-mod the Yahoo! JTS group and I DO NOT see any jumping Sharks in Losts future that don't have Dharma-tattooed fins. With that finish line in sight, I think a lot of the next two years is going to be dedicated to tying up all the loose plot threads and providing explanations for the questions from the first four years. At least, I hope...

If you count things like "Amazing People", "the Real World" and "Cops," "Reality television" had been around a LONG time. I grew up in the era of I've Got a Secret and What's My Line so night time game shows are nothing new either. There does seem to more of them than ever because, well, they're cheap to make (especially since the writers union let the reality show scripters get screwed over in the strike), they're easy to mount during the summer or during a strike, and because, well, in general we hear abut new ones and don't really notice when they get canceled.

The airwaves are filled with police procedurals, too, and unfortunately all the propaganda and brainwashing that crime doesn't pay and the police are infallible doesn't seem to be lowering the crime rate.

Television isn't down to one good show quite yet. I only have basic cable, but I'm told the new remake of Battlestar Galactica is very well made and much superior to the vheesefestive original. I have been enjoying the violent vigilante power fantasy escapist elements of Dexter (a Showtime series that has been showing in edited form on CBS). I am in a very small minority here, but I consider TNT's "Saving Grace" to be one of my favorite shows. Although it's currently between seasons, "The Venture Brothers", a Jonny Quest parody, is my favorite animated series. And though a lot of the material on [adult swim] is virtually unwatchable, I have enjoyed The Boondocks, Moral Orel, Frisky Dingo and even occasional parts of Robot Chicken. I came very late to the party but my local PBS had begun showing Dr. Who and I've been favorably impressed. And that's just basic cable (with some upper tier bleed-through). I'm told that for the financially better off, HBO, Showtime, the Sci-Fi Channel, Comedy Central, BBC America, FX, USA and other outlets have some quality programming. The Food Network leaks through my basic cable hookup and I do enjoy "Good Eats," a brilliant combination of the educational and informative with the educational.

I admit it's funny that I was asked to co-moderate Jump The Shark since that's a TV criticism concept and frankly I'm not that critical of a number of mainstream broadcast network shows. This last night (Monday) I watched Bones, House and Medium and enjoyed all three. And since I don't have a problem with it's apparent liberal bias, I very much enjoy Boston Legal. There are a number of other evening soap operas that I enjoy involving the medical profession, crime solving groups and suburban housewives, but I'm sure I'd be crucified if I mentioned them here.

And while it's hard to predict the future, I have hears that three directors who have had past success with the sci-fi/fantasy genres (Whedon, Abrams and Moore) have programs in the works for Fox's fall season. And several shows I didn't mention here which fell off the charts due to the strike will be back in the Fall, including the spy spoof Chuck and the fairy-tale-ish Pushing Daisies.

Needless to add, there has been a revolution in home video and most quality programing from the past is available commercially, so if you feel in the mood to watch something as good as Twin Peaks, The Prisoner or Wonderfalls, if you can afford the cash outlay, you can.

Of course we're doomed as hell - next February the government will wisely pull the plug on analog broadcast television and all across the country impoverished people suddenly deprived of free entertainment will be rising up in revolt. We'll be lucky if we survive the two years until Lost concludes, but I certainly don't think we need to worry about running out of things to watch before then.

And...I REALLY enjoyed "The Constant" BECAUSE Desmond never 'physically' time travelled anywhere. His consciousness did all the travelling...which was fine by me. Add to it that it nearly killed him, which means he won't be doing it again every 5 minutes on the show, makes it all the more palatable.

I am very hopeful that Darlton & Co. have every intention of blowing all our minds when the big wrap up comes...and I'm so happy that the writers now know EXACTLY how many hours they have left to tell the rest of the story...so the 'treading water' days are a thing of the past.

Now if I can just get them to write the scene where Vincent jumps on Keamy's ass and chews through his neck like it's hot butter.

In fact...I think that's WHY everyone was on that plane together. I think Widmore found, in some cosmic way...that ALL the Losties had some weird connection to the island BEFORE 815 ever crashed on it. Hurley had the numbers...so that's easy. I think he was monitoring these people....using "guiding forces" (Claire = Malkin, Locke = Randy, his boss at the box co, Hurley = Libby/Randy, etc)...to see if they would eventually lead him back to the island...back to take his revenge on Ben.

I dunno...But I like it better than "Groundhog Day".

I did peek in one of your Pirate Bay links out of curiousity and noticed in the comments section you griped that no one was grateful, followed by someone saying "thank you".

A recent news article says that modern medical science now has a clue in discovering the cause of happiness (let's just hope they don't find a cure). Drugs help - specifically chocolate, which triggers the same brain chemistry as love. Contact with nature is a component - they suggest a walk in the park but being lazy I find a drive in the country is nearly as good. And they endorse "being appreciated". Being loved or having someone thank you.

I just remind you that you've repeatedly said you upload for free with no renumeration or reward. And yet the gratitude of others is clearly important to you - you even directly asked for - and received - your "thank you." That's what you get out of it - that's your payday. And as you remarked above, enough ingratitude and criticism might take the fun out of it for you. Now I get why my own mild chiding "chapped yur ass" so badly, and I'm sorry. Do your thing, man, you're making a lot of Lost and BSG fans happy and making their lives a little easier and more convenient. And I'm sure the quality of what you offer is excellent considering your devotion to your craft, your fondness to the materials and, of course, the price of your offerings.

I send VHS tapes to my brother now and then (I assume sharing with a close family member counts as 'personal use') and I guess our VCRs aren't compatible because he keeps me supplied with blank tapes and asks me not to tape in EP or SLP - SP only for him. The slow speed's fine for me as long as there's no snowline - but then I have a 25" RCA TV that's at least 25 years old and the picture quality is kinda impressionistic at best anyway. I'm glad the rich people will have 62" hi-def wall screen TVs like The Jetsons or a James Bond villain in the far flung future of the 21st century, but I'm skeptical of this modern technology - I've still never seen a DVD player that really worked 100% of the time.

I never get to post much any more! Track season - I'm coaching, and we lost a close one tonight. Bummer.

Boston Legal has been on for four seasons and may be down to a few episodes - it's a bubble show and renewal has not yet been confirmed. Actually the lead character and premise were introduced and set up during the final season of The Practice, of which Boston Legal is a spin-off.

It has evolved over the years. During that final Practice season James Spader's Alan Shore character was totally amoral and unscrupulous - sort of a lawyer supervillain willing to do anything to help a client. Obviously they couldn't continue with him facing disbarment and/or firing week after week, so eventually he mellowed, especially in regards to his relationship with his boss, friend and mentor-figure Denny Crane, played by William Shatner who is doing the best work of his career at age 75.

The show is both very funny and sometimes a bit preachy. Last week Shore and Crane appeared before the highest court in the and and no less than a US Supreme Court Justice told Shore he was tired of his liberal bias. This week the show moves to its new Wednesday time slot (a fact the characters break the fourth wall to comment upon) and, to balance things out, Shore sues the Democratic Party.

If you've never seen it it's well worth an hour of your time to at leach try it out - or 44 minutes if you tape or TiVo.

I don't know why you'd be so interested in lil ole' me, browsing the pages of comments with the torrents I've made. Yeah - I had a bad week. Not so much from not getting a thanks, but from asinine comments like I mentioned (can't you increase res, or reduce bit rate or find more seeders or upload quicker or do it in .wmv instead of .Mp4) and I had HAD it. So I made one or two venting posts. Sue me. Necgrey is right, it is ok to comment on quality - it is a good "heads up" on whether it is worth a d/l. But it is the WAY you express it. Look through some of the torrents. "This video sucks" "Whoever u/led this in .rar format is a dumbass" and much much worse...And honestly, those that question legitimacy is annoying when you can plainly view a person's history. So while I wouldn't exactly say I go around and pout often (quite the opposite), demanding everyone worship me with thanks...it would be nice to have the ratio of "thank yous" to "gripes" to be around even.

That particular week, as I said, was a bad week.

No chapped ass Nap - its just for someone who finds this all so completely deviant and criminal, I just wonder why you take such interest in my post - enough look me up on TPB. And read posts to me and the posts I return. Actually - its a little creepy. Unless you are just trying to get to know me better and want to be, like, friends. Personally, I skimm stuff first and if looks good, I quick post it so everyone can get at it - then I take my time and enjoy it bit for bit. Then maybe go back into edit and post a comment.

Man ther eis just so much, While SkyGothFamNut thinks it is an insult, I take some pride in the speed of our cut and paste ability. Rb, 4We8, Nodey - those guys are quick...and you have to be or we'd be double posting constantly (and HAVE! Thank you delete option!)

I can click "RELOAD LIVE BOOKMARK" and it shows me EVERYTHING that has been posted in Room 23 right up to that very second and 30 posts down. Very nice for sites you want to check often for new stuff.
