No "Passacaglia" ??

Passacaglia is my favorite piece from the series. It was the music played in the opening teaser from "Kobol's Last Gleaming Part I (Season 1)". The music complemented the scene brilliantly. Any chance these concerts will come out on CD?

...were these performances filmed, by any chance? Living east of the Mississippi, it wasn't very feasible for me to travel to California to see this concert. I'd still love to see the music performed live though. A limited DVD release would be _awesome_. Even better: a DVD audio release in 5.1 of the existing season CD releases with video from one of these concerts. Oh yeah.

Kinda sad...I know it's only been used a couple of times in the show, but Bears version of the Galactica theme totally kicks ass. Check it out on the season 2 soundtrack.

attention comparatively. I guess we need a ridiculous hook. ScoreKeeper--throw a photo of a decent looking woman somewhere in your future articles. That'll be sure to get lots of AICN hits. Want even more hits? Make a political claim (or implication) in your future articles' titles.

No, the concert wasn't professionally filmed. But comments like these may influence future concerts. Ya, "Passacaglia" is one of my favorites too. Same with "Prelude to War." There were some ones I missed but I wasn't at all disappointed with what was on the set list. There's just so much great music something is going to be left off.

Great write-up, and like ScoreKeeper was very moved by the performance. Yes, you can buy the soundtracks, but listening to the live performance is electrifying from the emotion of the crowd to the intense performances of the band. Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Wander My Friends a revised composition on Apollo's departure in Season 4?
Thanks Scorekeeper!

Thanks for the write-up. I understand they wouldn't be able to play everything. I'd also like to add "Battle On The Asteroid" and "Olympic Carrier" to the list. It's all good! "Wander My Friends" is another gem. Was it sung?

I suppose they wound have needed a full orchestra (or at least string section)...but those two pieces, are the most wonderful, and haunting compositions Bear has made for BSG.

I went to the second showing so I can't say for the first, but for the second concert it wasn't sung which made me sad although it was still great to hear it live. Violence and Variations is another one that should've been played, granted like someone said you'd probably need a full orchestra but still even stripped down to just 4 or 5 guys it'd probably still sound amazing. Seriously amazing concert and if it happens again I urge anyone who's a fan to check it out, it's unbelievable!

...but I never dug Mcreary's work on Galactica. Kudos to them for going with something a little bit left of field with the music, but not my cup of tea.

Didn't mind his work on the Terminator TV show, but then he's just building on Brad Fiedel's already excellent work from back in 1984 there.

Just my personal taste but, as they say, taste is a matter of opinion - and yours is wrong ;)

Filming and Photos

For the record scorekeeper, I have about 400 shots made up of a combination of rehearsals, the first show and the second show ready to roll out. I'm just waiting for the go-ahead from Bear and I was there shooting for him specifically. As for filming, the G4 crew showed up to shoot interviews and hung around with three cameras and filmed the show so there is footage, just not footage that is going to be available to the public.
Bear scored my first USC student film!!!!

Bear scored my first USC student film called "The Last Film" about a guy who gets sucked into the world of his tv set. He did a great job. Anybody who wants a copy can contact me at vulcandeathgripproductions@yah oo.com. He has always been very talented and his success is much deserved. It's a tough business to succeed in, as in obvious by the fact that I'm 33 years old now, a graduate from the aforementioned USC filmschool, supposedly one of the most prestigious filmschools in the world (or so they tell me) and I still sleep on a fouton in a crappy apartment in Koreatown.

I can't honestly say I've been overly impressed with his work on Battlestar Galactica. I personally found it somewhat lacking compared to the score of the mini-series launching the new Battlestar Galactica. as for the best TV composer Christopher Franke's work far surpasses that of Bear McCreary (SP?) .

Thanks, Scorekeeper. Good report! It's always fun to read about unconventional concerts like Bear's being so well attended. Hell, if he took his Oingo Boingo crew to a stage near Boston, I'd grab some friends and go see it.

And Frank Darabont was there? I love that guy.

Finally, I love that female vocalist's pale belly. Holy cow. Can she please grab a guest appearance on the show at some point? And, yeah, she can sing like a seraphim too. I always enjoy hearing her voice during the show's opening theme.

I can tell you that some of the G4 guys (including Joe Lynch who directed Wrong Turn 2) filmed the show with three cameras on the second night (2 from in back and Joe up front and center) but that recording was done more for Bear then for public use. Hopefully Bear will decide to get some of that video online via his blog. Ill ask Brendan on Friday night and try to get a more official answer for you as well as word as to when I can release my photographs publicly.
