Make them look something like the source material. Of any property from comics or cartoons, GI Joe has (or had) to be the easiest character designs to translate into film. Duke had green khaki pants and a tan shirt or something like that. Now he's Batman. I mean, they cant even put glasses on the Baroness and use sunglasses instead? Maybe they use body armor for combat scenes in the movie, but for fuck's sake, put them in costumes somewhat resembling the source material, at least for part of the film, and especially for the first shots released to the public! Let's than Sam Raimi and Jon Favreau for being at least somewhat faithful to the source material visuals.

I see this film as playing out where they go and recruit these guys, who appear dressed more as they did in the cartoon etc. and then when they get ready to go to battle they suit up in these outfits. I mean come on guys, you can't run out onto a battle field wearing a bright red jersey with big blue letters, and carrying a bazooka...you might as well wear a neon sign that says shoot me. This is about an elite anti-terrorist group put together from the best in the armed forces. I just don't understand the whole "make it look like the cartoon" argument. I'm sorry but if you've ever been to a convention where people are running around dressed exactly like the people from these shows they look silly. They would be downright stupid looking if you stuck them in the middle of Iraq dressed like that.

The all-black uniforms must be the "enhanced battlesuits", so there might still be hope for more distinctive uniforms. I have to agree that Quaid doesn't look good. Damn. Scarlett, Snakes, Baroness, and Storm Shadow are fine, the others are crap. Of course, they will probably look better in the context of a movie, but as it stands now they need some fixin'.

At first I was like, WTF but, then I realized that they're supposed to be a military outfit. As someone in the military it makes sense to me that this goverment agency would have them wearing uniforms, not everybody showing up in wearing whatever. It never bothered me as a kid, but now it's like so the navy guy just shows up in his utilities, the marine guy with a pretty gay blue vest and Village People Hat, Duke gets to wear an army uniform. They're supposed to be one team, not a bunch of individuals a'la JLA. So the all black stealth outfit makes sense to me, and like someone else mentioned, I'm sure they've got other outfits besides. Or even if they don't, it makes sense realistically.

I liked Transformers. It wasn't the best Transformer's movie ever but it was a decent movie. It was cool to see character's I grew up with on screen. I'm not saying that GI Joe is going to be the best GI Joe movie that could be made but it'll be cool to see it. I'm just not one to think that you can take what was origionally there and slap it on screen and people will love it. Writing a comic book vs. Making a cartoon vs. making a live action movie is 3 different things. You're just never going to see the greatest director with the perfect cast make the greatest movie based on beloved characters...it'll never happen. Politics, money, timing, all that factors in. You have to take each piece of work and base your love/hate on it as it is it's own thing. Somtimes you get a good collaboration and a great movie (donner/superman, superman, X2, Spider-man etc.) sometimes you get okay ones (Transformers, Fantastic Four) and sometimes you get bad ones (X3, Hulk).

I give a 50% chance that both Destro will NOT have a metal head, and that Cobra Commander will NOT have a simple mirror face helmet. Something tells me that those two aren't going to look anything like themselves. They took away Baroness's glasses, probably because she didn't look cool enough with them, and they took away Stormshadows balaclava, and cool grey and white camouflage. They basically have taken away every visual detail that made these characters what they are. And that prick who posted about that you cant go into battle with bright red, so of course they would wear black. Screw you. I don't see any soldiers in real life walking arround in black leather. There is nothing wrong with some color, and if the costume has red in it- for this movie it could be a very low saturated red. This movie is GIino.

Why does everyone keep bitching about Transformers, the film was fine. Both of these properties are based on toy lines form the 80’s and Transformers isn’t even from America. Some suit at Hasbro visited Japan I’m sure and snatched up the production rights. People pining for the Transformers from the cartoon are idiots the animation sucked and cars have changed since the 70’s. Filmmakers of this genre have to skate a fine line between peoples perceived imaginations, old cartoon animation and what is current and realistic TODAY. I grew up with the 60’s and 70’s Gi Joes so when these crappy little 3 inch wonders cam out I was appalled. But I grew to like the little dudes and even got married with a Zartan in my (top coat) pocket for good luck. I realized that times change, even though I’ll always know the original Joe’s are way better. Speed Racer isn’t going to be based in the 60’s but I’m going to give it a shot because well, it’s just a cartoon and if handled correctly could b really amazing. Making a movie based on a toyline and having it please everyone is impossible because we all have our own memories of the particular toy and the adventures we gave them. Oh how I wish they would tie a bunch of Firecrackers to shipwreck but it isn’t going to happen in the movie because that was my memory (and I was an adult). Half the people who comment in here never even owned the toys. Having said all of that… this really does remind me of the crappy Street Fighter movie.

You're right, I don't need to get nasty. But no, I don't think a single movie in my dvd collection is junk food, except I have "I Robot" embarrasingly in that collection, which I bought blind because of a strong but wrong reccomendation- I still need to get that pollution out of my pristine collection. There is harm in junk food movies, they cause you to forget just how good movies can be. There is nothing of interest in "Transformers". I think you are either so desensitized by poorly made movies that you don't realize this anymore, or you are not very intelligent (not just trying to be nasty). If you have been desensitized by terribly made movies- that is the very reason why Junk food movies are bad.

Trust me, most of my friends love that so bad its good stuff. I remember when I was a kid and I was amazed that someone would make something as bad as "American Ninja". But I am not suprised anymore of how bad movies can be, so theres no such thing as so-bad-its-good to me anymore. I guess I do sound like a pompous fuck, thats cool. I just get like that when I talk about stuff like movies. I'm just sick of bad ones, I do not enjoy them at all. And laughing at Leprechaun is something I can barely do- it makes me more sick than anything.

you still haven't given any examples of your "pristine collection". I grew up with Transformers toys, and I enjoyed seeing a live-action Optimus Prime on the screen, looking pretty much like I hoped he'd look. I'm not desensitized, either...I know what makes a bad movie and what makes a good movie. I also know what makes a movie entertaining. If you don't think giant robots blowing each other to shit is entertaining, no worries.

Baroness' costume is pretty bad.. which is a shame since it's supposed to be one of the more distinctive costumes in the franchise. Storm shadow actually does not bug me. The rest... I can deal with. Rachel Nichols is attractive, but the frontal shots of that costume don't look great. Quaid looks like Quaid, which is okay with me.

The Pod Race felt like a rehash of the speeder bike chase from Jedi (only not as good), and the two-headed announcer and farting aliens and superForcemechanicAnakin really just flat out ruined it for me. The good I was referring to was the final Maul fight.

Do you really want to know what makes up a pristine collection? Here it is (in my oppinion). Star Wars, Alien, Empire Strikes Back, Raiders, The Road Warrior, Blade Runner, The Dark Crystal, Return of the Jedi, Temple of Doom, Ghostbusters, Labyrinth, Aliens, The Princess Bride, Willow, Last Crusade, Terminator 2, The Matrix, All the Lord of the Rings movies, Sin City (maybe), Batman Begins, The Good The Bad and the Ugly, Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, Master and Commander, Miller's Crossing, Heat, Fargo, Fight Club, The Bourne movies, Kill Bills, No Country For Old Men. And there are others of course- but to me, a complete and pristine collection has these movies in it.

I'm convinced they're just doing everything in their power to make this not look like it stars U.S. soldiers. The Baroness actually looks like she should. It's just, everyone in this rubber/plastic Batman armor is aggravating. They didn't need to match the figures or cartoons exactly. Sure that would be silly, but what's wrong with some camo? I think that armor being worn over some gray, olive drab or camo would look cool, too. But honestly, what things look like don't bother me too much. It's the story and the writing I'm concerned about. Too many people were worried about what the Transformer designs looked like, and forgot to worry about them not writing a shitty movie.

I knew Willow would be the movie to get trashed from my collection. It always is- I consider it the worlds most underated movie. To me, if you truly love Star Wars, I can't understand why you would hate Willow- it was written and filmed in the same spirit. Oh and no, I wasn't talking about Pan's Labyrinth, although I do like that movie- I just don't really want to watch it a second time for some reason. Trust me, I am very comfortable right now with Guillermo Del Toro directing The Hobbit. I pray he does a good job. Directing it just like Pan's Labyrinth won't be good enough I'm afraid.

I haven't seen all of the movies you listed, probably less than half of those. But the ones I have seen, I agree with you on, and I have a lot of those too. In any case, you seem to have pretty solid taste in movies too. There is nothing in your list that I can criticize, except maybe "300" althouth I am just splitting hairs at that point. And yeah, there are a ton of great animated movies I left out- certainly those Miyazaki movies and more belong there.
