And I fully support what images we've seen thus far. I'm sure these characters aren't going to be in those black suits more than 25% of the film. I'm sure they are mission suits.

Beyond that, TBers NEED to understand that there has to be some gray area when adapting a comic/cartoon into a real world medium. You can't have direct design adaptations... they just wouldn't work. The original Transformers designs WOULD NOT have worked. The original Joe designs, WOULD NOT work either. They would be far too campy. While I hope that the movie does manage to work in some SUBTLE nods to those character designs in various sequences, I honestly wouldn't want direct adaptations, regardless of how attached I am to the source material. Why don't some of you get that?

Snake Eyes is EXACTLY how he should be... and because his character design was basically an amped up version of a ninja suit, it works in the real world. The Baroness' pic is almost spot on. Storm Shadow's is a good design inspired by the source material but thankfully changed. And who's to say that we won't see him in his original white ninja suit at some time in the film?

If any of these pics is the defining source material version, Quaid's Hawk is the closest as far as looking like a G.I. Joe cartoon/comic character... and I have to say, it's the weakest because it is borderline campy. THAT is why the other designs work. .. because they mesh well in the real world setting. Those outfits look like covert suits for a special mission force like the Joes.

And again, they aren't going to be in that suit throughout a majority of the movie... much like the X-Men weren't in their black suits that much.

So take a breath, relax. Regardless, you've all pretty much decided that you're going to hate the movie. Based off of a frickin' small collection of images. The script has a lot of great buzz around it (see Latino Review) with a great writer attached. Director-wise, yeah, Stephen Sommers made Van Helsing... but Steven Spielberg made 1941, Francis Ford Coppola made Jack, Irvin Kershner (Empire Strikes Back) made Robocop 2, etc. etc. etc.

I'm not expecting a masterpiece. I'm not expecting this film to be an instant classic. If you love and are so connected to the source material, then let's be honest, you should expect a campy flick with cheesy dialog and plot lines (Although the cartoon actually had some great plots here and there) like the original cartoon.

I just want a fun and entertaining ride as long as they stay true to the general premise: G.I. Joe is the code name for America's daring, highly trained, special mission force. Its purpose, to defend human freedom against Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world. And yeah, that was from memory;)

Is this movie going to be any good? I guess it depends on how you define "good." Will it be any better than Sommers' other crapfests, probably not. I know it. You seem to know it. The difference between me and these other mooks yelling about it is that I can see it for what it is and move on instead of obesessing about it in a Talkback. Peace

They knew what they were doing when they posted Snake Eyes because what they had after that killed any momentum or faith anyone had in this film.

I feel really bad for fans of both Transformers and GI Joe as they're gonna need some serious therapy after this. But me all I can say is FUCK MICHAEL BAY!!! and now FUCK STEPHEN SOMMERS!!! I just saw it as being realistic, raw and real. I pictured Dennis Quaid in a beret, sure, but I thought he'd be in the sweet general's uniform with decorated ribbons and honorary medals... Duke with his trademark battle-worn browns...a 9mm and a big belt with a bunch of pouches for his grenades and stuff. I just wanted it to feel real.

Instead we're getting Street Fighter.

Some of us used to daydream about a live action GI:Joe film when we were kids, and now that the box office results from Transformers are gold, you finally make the movie. But, you predictably craft something that panders to the lowest common denominator because you don't have any faith in the vetted design. You miss the point.

For example, the Baroness was hot, but not just because of her figure. You put her in the Emma Peel ripoff suit, like that was good enough. You totally missed the point. Her glasses gave her this teacher from hell, smart lady vibe that you guys just threw away. You gave it up, because you don't get it. You're like "Oh boy, men! Glasses, they just aren't on MTV these days! LOSE EM!"

Yeah. You're right about Snake Eyes. They totally rolled him out first, to get the "Street Cred". But all that turned to shit in my mouth when I saw the other costumes. He works for them cause he's all black, but now it's ruined because everyone's all in black now.

They have a word for it, and it's called mystique. He had it before, but I think they drowned it out now, with everyone decked out now in all black.

You know the camouflage pattern the cast is sporting? You know, with the GI Joe MOTION PICTURE FUCKING LOGO PRINTED IN THE FUCKING PATTERN?!

Snake Eyes looked great in the first images released. I guess that was just because the first leaked image was so dark. The new images really lose the character!!!! BOOTS??? He should be wearing ninja shoes of some sort. something light. CARGO PANTS AND BELT? I never imagined him wearing something like that. How bout tights more similar to Bat Mans? Or even a manlier version of scarletts?

I really hope we don't see Cobra Commander's face in this movie. But i'm sure they will show it. WHY??? They should have known from the start, they should have worked it into the story somehow. Turned it into some sort of twist. Not, "I AM YOUR FATHER" But something. Just keep Cobra Commander in the shadows. Leave us guessing his age, his race. Etc... Don't give us all the back story to everything keep us guessing FFS.

Everyone here looks like they're more interested in not messing up or looking "un-cool" than they are in kicking ass in what should be a fun movie.

In the running debate of "original costumes vs. sensible updates", here's my stance: 1) Unlike, say, X-Men, the original character designs here were not all that outlandish. You could do the "military Village People" thing and just tweak it a bit, tone a few things down if needed, but it would still work. 2) Unlike with, say, X-Men, these characters can become pretty nondescript without visual flair. Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops, Rogue are still those characters, even in jumpsuits. They can extend claws, shoot lightning, shoot force beams from their eyes, etc. But stick all the Joes in the same costume, and you've got...what looks like a bunch of extras. Or SWAT. Perhaps they really will be given enough personality to stand out as characters while still being uniformed--it worked to perfecton in Aliens, and Predator--but with these mopey-looking actors, I'm skeptical.

Is it too late to take Dennis Quaid and Ray Park, scrap everyone else, and start a new movie? Sigh.
