Actually, I don't think that she will have a hard time shaking Fred - she was a positive bad-ass when Fred became Illyria. Hopefully this character will allow her to show more of her bad-assedness (if that isn't a word it should be)...

BTW. I don't think Acker will have any problem shedding her Fred persona. She is a very good actress. So good in fact it was almost jarring when she became Illira and you realize Fred wasn't just an extention of Acker's own personality.

..and I was right. Then years later when I watched it (plus Serenity) I was kicking myself.

Maybe if more of us didn't take that position of pre-emptive boycotting and we had watched, it wouldn't get cancelled. Kind of becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Don't make the mistake again - watch and support!

gotham - yeah i remember those Serenity figures, but there were only 3 characters (Mal, Jayne, Reaver) and they were HORRIBLE - ugliest I've ever seen. Why can't McFarlane or NECA or someone pick it up?!?

Big Jim: That is the one reason I'm glad I'd waited. But I'd rather have multiple seasons with the first couple shown out of order than only 14 episodes total.

Jonathan M. Woodward - one of Whedones triples (Angel,Buffy and Firefly)...so I think we may see him in an episode of Dollhouse simply cos Whedon likes him and hes a great actor too. I took would love to see Denisof back on TV. How has he not been snapped up by a show-he was amazing as Wesley.

I think that's the wrong approach. How are shows supposed to make ratings if people don't watch them because they're afraid of cancellation. That's like being afraid of dating because your heart might get broken. Live for the now, my friend! I watched Firefly as Fox screwed it up, but then watched it again (and again) in the order they were intended. It was certainly more enriching to see things work out how they were meant to, but at the same time, there's a certain energy to watching something as it's broadcast - that sense of wonder, discovery, and anticipation at the same time that everyone else is discovering it. And by everyone else, I mean the handful of people who watched it while it was on. It's the reason why I only watch 2 other shows (Lost and BSG) practically live and the rest I DVR. Though it's harder with BSG since it's a weekend, and I do still tend to go out on Friday nights.

And there were more than 3 Serenity action figures. Dark Horse is still selling them, along with those little ship replicas and the lunchboxes.

If you've read the description of Dollhouse, the Dolls aren't actually assassins. They take on various fantasy roles according to the needs and desires of the client. So it's not really like River so much. Maybe it's more of River + Inara. Okay, that's a nice image.

I was hoping for Woodward (Knox) as the tech guy, but I guess he's already played that role. I hope to see him show up for this one, too.

Dushku and Acker! Okay, I'll watch the series, Joss.

He was the best actor of all Joss's shows. The subtle things he did taking Wes from goofy to dark to slightly crazy by the end of the Buffi-verse in the last season of Angel was phenomenal. No character had such a wide arc. And the traitorous lab guy mentioned early was named Knox on the show. He was good too. Not sure the actors name.

like others have said, not going to bother watching until, 1 season is in the bag and second season confirmed. it has joss, it has folks from the wheldon universe. i know its going to be good. but im tired of watching great shows only for them to e canceled, for another reality show. fox is the absolutely worst network ever to support new shows. this decision for most of us does not come likely, but quite frankly we're fucked off in investing the time in a new show only to have it ripped away from us. If there's one talent that Joss Whedon possesses, its finding GOOD TALENT. Amy Acker is a phenomenal actress. Though it wouldn't help if she downed a few steaks. Her transformation from Fred to Illyria was MIND BOGGLING. Her entire character changed, her entire body language, her speech. I was blown away by her performance and felt bad for Fred's demise. And Acker was amazingly convincing as an evil bitch in Alias. I couldn't help but hate her. She deserves the best roles and great success. Wish her the best.

Damn, I thought that show was done forever when they introduced Kara Cousin Oliver, so when the fuck did they get grown up writers? That was an incredible episode! I always liked the show, without thinking all that much of it quality-wise, but for one hour, they kept it up to Lost, BSG quality (on their better nights, that is). Or maybe I drank too many beers. Either way, what the fuck?

Seeing as Buffy (1997) fans are always hijacking Doctor Who (1963) threads to rail against how Doctor Who steals everything from Jesus Whedon... is there actually any evidence that there will anything remotely original about this new nonsense? Or will it just be the usual ripping-off of superior TV shows that Whedon et al hope their 15 year old audience are too young to have heard of? I know what my money's on... Good to know they're filling it with a good T&A quota. At least they know their target audience. Who needs drama when you have cleavage, d00d!

I really disagree with that. Ever show he's done has sounded stupid (valley girl vampire killer, vampire detective, and space western... no really a western in space), but I think that was kind of the point. To take cliche storylines and twist them. So naturally there are situations that are seemingly "stolen" but the punchline is what makes it original. There was a Firefly episode where Mal gets in a huge fight with one of the bad guys henchmen. Jane and Zoe bust in to save him. Jane moves to help, Zoe stops him and say sometime cliched like "Captain's gotta work this out himself". Mal croaks out, "No I don't". All his series are filled with scenes like that.
