Dude I love celldweller, maybe one day they'll get past the world of trailer music. Though for some reason the song Switchback got copied onto my Zune like 50 times so when I put it on Shuffle its like every 3rd song, getting a bit annoyed. Added to the fact my external craped out on me so I am stuck with the music on my Zune until i get it fixed. Also I've noticed Muse is getting stuck in Trailer music hell.

For the first time the racing action seemed defined enough to be able to follow, and vicariously participate in the thrill of it. The line from Trixie "What are you thinking, Speed Racer" seemed to be about the main story, not some creepy seduction line. I bought the whole thing for the first time. Hope the Big Screen does it justice.

The song on the Speed Racer trailer ("Birthright") is also used briefly on the new Iron Man trailer. it's from his new album (no release date yet). He does get a butt-load of soundtrack work but you know he's gotta be gettin' paid! I like it that he makes REAL songs and Hollywood just loves usin them in their trailers.

I am looking forward to this as it really represents the state of the art in filmmaking today. I'm sure the same douche bags on here bitching about the CGI will say the opposite thing when the trailers for Avatar start to emerge. What will make or break this film (as is the case with all films) is its story. If we aren't invested in what happens then all the eye candy is useless.

by Revolution_Now
Apr 15th, 2008
12:40:08 PM
Why is the trailer showing Racer X, unmasked, speaking to Speed? Isn't that a pretty big "reveal" to be showing in a trailer? Maybe the "W" Brothers are banking on the fact that the majority of people watching these trailers don't know the significance of Racer X's identity. Hmm.

...on this being like the podrace in SW:TPM, and it not being a good thing . . . The podrace was one of only TWO things in that movie worth a damn. The other being the Darth Maul fight at the end. I'm a Formula One fan, and George Lucas (hold back the vomit, people,) put a lot of Formula One-style ideas in that scene. Sorry for the delay in response. been sleeping for a couple. What looks like crap? Jeez, where do I start. Just ridiculous imho. I know it's based on a cartoon, but I still can't get past cars that include every gizmo under the sun. Where's the peril in a race where cars can regrow tyres, drive upside down on loop the loop tracks and all kinds of stupid impossible feats. I can accept it in a cartoon, but when you are trying to convey real people inhabiting a cartoon world it just doesn't work for me. I appreciate the style is true to the cartoon, but so was the flintstones... If you are a fan and enjoy the film then good for you. Money well spent. But I shall rent it on DVD.

In every trailer, there's one element/scene where a red holographic #4 car-blur-thing jumps off of a ramp, turns a corner, etc., ahead of the white #6 car. The white Speed Racer car then follows the same path as the red car-shaped "light trail" and moves into that same space a few frames later. What is that, and have any of you read anything about that effect? What is it supposed to represent? Thanks.

Because there were some awesome moments in there that are best left for the theatre. As the guy said, if this trailer didn't convince you, then you're not someone I want to ever hang out and watch movies with... Maybe you can buy 2 Fast 2 Furious and watch teh hell out of that since its chock full of realism and I'm sure you'll feel the danger the characters are putting themselves in hahahahaha! Because there's like no way futuristic cars with gadgets ever represent any danger... you know, kind of like how the Batmobile is totally invincible... but you'll all flock to the realism of Dark Knight and his Bat-gadgets! Anyway i for one am pumped for all the movies coming out, Iron man, Speed Racer, Dark Knight, hell even Forbidden Kingdom!

I dunno either. When I was a kid, we walked 18 miles uphill in the snow to school, Speed Racer came on before Ultraman in the afternoons, and he drove one car that had a five on it. Pops Racer could beat up 20 guys at a time, and the Monster Car was made of solid gold, and Speed raced in an event where if you lost your pineapple out of the car seat you got disqualified, but one of the pineapples had a diamond in it. Now, the red semitransparent car is #4 and Speed's car is number #6, but the new car is a #5, dogs and cats are living together, cars are flipping...It's anarchy, I tell you.
Right on, Johnno...

Why the hell is everyone taking this so seriously? It's not a NASCAR documentary, it's a goddamn fantasy film, based on a cartoon, for Christ's sake. by Pondscum

...is it fuck. The reason that this and Transformers (and God knows how many others) are being made is because Hollywood knows the following -

It already has a geek / nostalgia following

They can get both adults and children to pay to see these movies

The people who remember it as kids, now have their own kids which they will bring to the theatre

There is golden toy merchandise in them there hills

And because we remember how magical and cool these TV shows were from out childhoods, we somehow expect them to be wonderful again.

Which inevitably leads to crushing disappointment.

The end.

Yeah, been trying to figure out what's up with that too. Googling produced no viable explanations. So I'm left to ASSume that the Mach 4 was originally driven by Speed's brother, Rex (aka Racer X) before his "death". Maybe it's some trippy way of showing Speed channeling his brother's skills during the race (although I believe Racer X is in this same race). Fuck if I know.
