BTW, I was a bit dubious about TPATF when I first heard about it, but the more I hear, the more I like. It's about time we got a full-blown voodoo/cajun/louisiana jazz-style cartoon, I think the closest was that fat croc from All Dogs Go To Heaven...

There's a series of Barbie movies featuring fairies that are making a buttload of money in the DTV market. I guarantee Disney saw that and these Tinkerbell movies are a direct result. They want their slice of that pie, or more likely the whole damn pie to themselves. I've seen most of these Barbie movies (again, the 4 yr old daughter), and they pretty much feature crappy CGI animation and piss-poor storytelling. I have to think Disney can pull off a much better "product," or at least I hope they can, cos I don't know how much more I can take of the adventures of Elina and Bibble...here's to hoping Mr. Lasseter isn't just blowing smoke up everyone's collective asses and these things really are halfway decent...

I'm sorry, but everything I hear about those Tinkerbell movies reminds me of Itchy and Scratchyland. "Yeah, you're too young to remember the short-lived 'Itchy and Scratchy and Friends.' They had to come up with some friends." I wonder which of Tinkerbell's friends is Disgruntled Goat?

There is no way they do King of the Elves right. I mean, there is some killing in there as I recall. Does Disney do killing? And,.the short story translates to about 20 minutes of screen time tops, what nonsense will they add? And that bit about DaVinci and the like, it shows the hubris of Disney again, comparing their crappy digital renderings to the highest achievements in western art. Ridiculous.

The last of Walt's "Nine Old Men". Now HE knew how to do it "old-school" (as he and Frank Thomas put it in their wonderful cameo in The Incredibles).

Mars And DaVinci
by BartholomewNeff

Princess of Mars is considered live-action that is why it wasn't included. As for the DaVinci and others comments, the reason they used that is not hubris. It's the style they are going for. It looks pretty amazing, almost like watching a moving painting. Rapunzel is inspired look-wise by the painting "The Swing" by Jean-Honore Fragonard. And they got the look pretty darn close. I'm really looking forward to this one.

...we see Princess/Frog stuff show up in New Orleans Square? While I have to give credit for getting back into the cel animation they never should have left, they've given themselves all kinds of tie-ins to existing Disney properties. In addition to NO Square, the same creole theme is already at WDW in the Port Orleans resort. The classic Peter Pan croc/gator is at the pool there, as well at their Blizzard Beach water park. That all is just a nit to pick. I still have to give Iger and the Disney corporate folks props for consummating with Pixar and reviving the brand.

I like the voice casting, especially James Lipton because that's just too appropriate. John Travolta for the lead might be good but the best choice would be Tom Cruise. We've seen Mission Impossible II, there were points in time where it seemed like he thought he was capable of that stuff.

The whole delay/name change thing had me worried, but this sounds like a movie I'll be seeing this November. The rest of Disney's lineup sounds promising as well, with the exception of the Tinkerbell stuff, though the fact that I'm not a five year old girl could have something to do with my disintrest.

Disney Screwed Sanders With "Bolt"
by Liahn

Chris Sanders got totally screwed with "Bolt". Instead of staying with his original concept, they changed the main character, renamed the film, and removed him from production.
