trust me, kiddos...you need to tune in...the Ricky Gervais bit was so funny I almost choked on my sandwich...at the end of his bit he said, "Now Steve Carrell is going to come on stage and do the same bit, but much better and get paid much more money for it..."

Classic!

John Adams OWNS Sunday night until the mantle of presidential authority is peacefully passed on to his friend Thomas Jefferson.

And if HBO is listening, even though there is a bit of overlap, Mr. Jefferson deserves a miniseries too.

jefferson was interesting....adams an enigma

and yes, a full mini on jefferson would be interesting, especially to point out how far different the original republicans were as compared to our contemporaries...jefferson did not want nor trust a strong executive or central government...this was not lipservice, unlike todays republicans who use states rights as political fodder only...

Jefferson versus Adams versus Comedy
by NudeandAroused

Was a brilliant slave owner who was also a quiet secessionist. People tend to put all kinds of ideas and thoughts into Jefferson's mouth without ever reading what he actually wrote or said. The idea that anyone could quote Jefferson dealing with liberty is hilarious. While Adams wasn't the intellectual equivalent of Jefferson, he turned out to be more optimistic about the people and the country he helped established. That being said, I will Tivo this event because these people are very funny. Stewart and Oliver are brilliant satirists. Given what is going on today, we sure could use the laughs.
It'll take a big comment textbox to post about THIS many stars

That's why Firefox users should install the Greasemonkey extension and then get my recently updated and renamed AICN Talkback Form Tweaks script http://tinyurl.com/2ml3rs

Updated version embiggens the claustrophobic subject and comment fields in the quick talkback form. No more hitting your elbows on the edges of the comment textbox while you type out your article-size manifesto.

Also fixes embarrassing bug where "ready" checkbox was showing up in the quick login form *blush*. Other features: sets correct subject field maxlength (64) / Makes return in subject field advance to body instead of posting / Automatically cancels blank posts / Adds a safety beside the post button that helps prevent double/accidental posts.

which is why there hasnt been a john adams talkback...hbo has now made 2 series that need to be shown in every jr and high school throughout the country...the wire and john adams...i remember being in jr high and being taken to see 1776, which to me was as close as i ever got to really seeing the truth about the founding fathers...it wasnt till much later when i learned just how really hated adams was (which may account for why he has no memorial)...dude was a shit...but a brilliant shit and a true patriot...and had abigail been born in the 20th century, she would be the first female president, of that i have no doubt...she matched john in both wit and political acumen...to the point that when dignitaries visited the white house, they called her "mrs president"...i cant wait to see how they handle the alien and sedition act, which has tremendous parallels to today...and while some may call for a mini on jefferson, i would like to see one with john quincy, who was the smartest president we ever had, and who would never have served were he not an adams....and i really do like how they are portraying adam's son in law...and absolute con artist...just please dont show abby jr's breast surgery...it was horrific

they are cutting bits short, they have all these huge stars, and they let Rosie O'Donnell blad on and on with unfunny personal stories for 20 minutes? that was COMPLETELY unfunny and boring. I am aghast. I don't hate Rosie, but jesus christ, that Jewish phone call story was so random and unfunny.

so for the Steve Carrell bit has been the best.

Because they were at the Beacon Theater where they've done plenty of live shows before, especially VH-1 type stuff. So the mic thing was weird. And then they just weren't funny. And I like a lot of those guys too, but I think their over-confidence was their weakness. They didn't seem very prepared. They probably thought they could wing it. The best parts of the show were from the older guys like Larry David, Steven Wright, Jerry Stiller. It made the younger guys look worse having them there.

...and I have to say I didn't care so much. I love Jon Stewart the Great Colbert, and lots of the other guys in the show, but man... the posters above saying this felt rushed and thrown together at the last minute, I have to agree with you. People stepping on each other's lines, awkward back-and-forths between each other, missed cues, and yeah, the sound guy needed to be shot in the friggin' head. That whole bit with Larry David "calling in" didn't have the telephone filter on his mic at first, then it did, and then when he walks on stage, they kept the filter on for the first 60 seconds or so after he's "off the phone." I swear, did they even do a rehearsal?

Just flipped over occasionally, as I was quickly disappointed by the show and kept coming back thinking someone would come on and rock it, but I caught nothing.

As for the charity portion(which is what really matters) anyone know how they did? Saw on IMDB that the last time they did this in 2006, they only raised 3mil, which after the overhead, seems like low amount for something this size and advertised so heavily.
