That doesn't really imply the seed was planted. What with various types of protection available. Without those, there's also the possibility that Pam likes things a little dirtier than you may suspect.

My filthy implication brings up a point. While we've always seen Jim "in love" with Pam, have we actually had an occasion where he seems to be turned on by her? I realize we tend to stay in the office, but, has he even been spotted checking her out crouching down in front of a filing cabinet, or something? I suppose the producers want to make sure they keep them "cute" saw the viewers (especially women) can watch and go "Awwww..." C'mon, Halpert, there's a wild girl in there struggling to get out...

...this season the writers have made Michael functionally retarded. I man, seriously, Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin retarded. And that's unfortunate, because a completely stupid Michael is not that funny. They need to go back to writing Michael as not stupid but completely devoid of sensitivity. That guy was hilarious. However, I suspect the network was uncomfortable having a lead character who was, in reality, a racist, sexist bigot in this day and age. Too bad.

I agree that The Office has gotten kind of tired in its fourth season--having Pam and Jim finally together is annoying--but, the show was getting back on track before the strike, and the return of Paul Feig is reason enough to watch. Plus, I just love the whole wickedly dysfunctional Jan-Michael dynamic. Now, 30 Rock coming back is something to get excited about. It is truly the new ruler of network comedy. The one they did right before the strike was outrageously funny and dark.

Meanwhile, Weeds, which methinks is the very best comedy on television today, will return in June.

However, when they began to play the theme song, this intense rush of happiness came over me. Great episode. Glad to have the best show on television back on the air.

which is kinda weak for me during the Office. The first was seeing Micheal sleeping on something like an 18th century trundle bed at Jan's feet like a servant and the second was when the police showed up and said, "Not now, Dwight." I don't know but the shambles that is Jan, while definitely awkward, is not Ha Ha funny. That bitch is crazy...Serenity font indeed.^

I agree w/ buffywrestling... this office was a bit low on the laugh quotient compared to most offices. Granted, a weak office is better than most comedies on TV (including an hour and a half of saturday night live). Definitely interesting from the perspective of a study of the characters tho :) Oh and I did like the part where dwight's date left (was that his mom or just some random lady??) and he saw her at the bus stop, frowned and kept on driving. Also surprised Andy didn't offer to take Michael home since he's SUCH a kiss ass, but I guess he was worried about scoring with Angela. Also in regards to the spoilers, it said they were coming up, not all on tonight's episode. And the spoiler of Jan and Michael having problems did come true. It was also funny how everyone ragged on Pam for no reason. But not laugh out loud funny like the office usually is. I can't wait to see the upcoming episode that focuses on Kevin and then the one about Stanley -- those are two of the funniest characters.

This one did take things a bit too far over the top. Michael and Jan's relationship and actions toward each other were horrifying, if they were happening in reality. To the point where Jim and Pam making fun of them ("Babe.") was just wrong. Also, I do wonder if they're leading us to some relationship issues with Jim and Pam. I'd hate for it to come to a breakup and turn this show into Friends. But, Jim was pretty damn close to ditching Pam and saving himself.

And yeah, Angela's probably a freak. She smacks you around and tells you when you're not doing it right.

Like another talkbacker mentioned, this episode was reminiscent of the best parts of the U.K. version of the Office. But there is WAY too much looking at the camera for comedic effect. At most it should only happen a few times an episode, but it happens at least a few times in each scene. And Krasinski is the worst. He really drags the show down. He's not funny, he's not a good actor, and he is annoying as shit. He's no Tim Canterbury, I'll tell you that!

Michel and Jim transforming into each other. Michael is becoming Jim. He's likable and he gets the other people in the office and Jim is turning into Michael where he is unbearable and not quite right for Pam. He's going to lose her and he's going to realize that he f'ed up big time. It's going to go the friends route, folks. I called this from the beginning. By the end of the season, they'll be back together (just like the British version). And I don't care if that's a f'ing spoiler.

I found the turn of this episode really inconsistent with what had transpired earlier in the season. After the "touching" moment Jan and Michael had on the train when he was ready to run away, I actually thought the two connected. Kind of odd the writers completely reversed that character development and brought us back to where we were in Season 2. Also, why does Jan suddenly not want kids? She divorced her husband because she wanted them and he didn't. And all Michael talks about is wanting kids so him just blindly accepting a vasectomy seems odd. Then there is the little bed at the foot of the bed which wasn't there at the beginning of Season 3 (when we saw Jan passed out on it). How much time has passed between that episode and this one? And why the hell is Jan spending money to set up a business when her and Michale have money problems (and even though he's asking others to invest, it takes initial money to make all that stuff she had). I just really felt like this episode would have worked better as the first episode of Season 3 rather than here in the middle. It really negates parts of what has happened and doesn't feel like it belongs. I laughed, but I didn't feel comfortable with it. Yeah, I'm too into this show.
I really liked the episode ...

though I do agree it was contrary to the characters (especially Jan) in many ways. I suspect they had to do this if they planned to sever Michael and Jan, which is kind of necessary, I think. In any event, I thought the episode as a whole was great - the awkwardness of the whole thing was so palpable I could barely watch at times. I've been to dinner parties like that, and I would have paid any amount to have my house flood so I had a reason to leave in the middle. Anyway glad to see it back on the air.

by offput
Apr 12th, 2008
11:42:41 PM
I've seen relationships like the one Jan and Michael have, and they're not a fiction, they are scarily and uncomfortably accurate. Also, he was trying to involved Pam in his rescue but after they told him Pam didn't need to leave, he figured "fuck it" and the reason they're great for each other is that Pam didn't just sit back and take it. She stood up and told him that he was going to have to suffer through it with her. And as for Jim and Pam making fun of the "babe" comments afterwords, that's not a dick move or something an asshole does. It's what they do: they entertain themselves with the bizarreness of their world. It's not that he doesn't sympathize with Michael -- if anything, he sympathizes with him more than anyone else in the office -- but that doesn't mean he can't have a little fun at his expense. I think you people are just too used to fake characters on television.
