I asked, but they really don't want to release anything since it's so far out. I feel the same as you do, though. One of the pieces of art coming out would go a long way to getting people excited for it. What I liked about the art in the slideshow they showed was that it was very painterly and lush. The artistry was there, it wasn't some flat CG production image.

if Boll actually said he would quit, I'd post that. But he didn't. In an interview he said he wouldn't quit because of the petition with 18,000 signatures. When asked what would be enough, he said "A million." He never pledged anything, just a throwaway line in an interview. Now that the petition is up over 120,000 he's backtracking. He'll never quit and he's just using this as a way to publicize his latest shitfest (yes, I saw Postal and it's horrible, surprise surprise). I'm not helping that tool publicize his poor excuses for films anymore, which is why there's no story about the petition on the site. If he entered into a contract saying he'd quit with 1 million signatures on a petition, then I'd be pushing that petition every day until it had a million signatures, but that petition could get 10 million and he'd never stop. We're stuck with him, but as long as he goes (and stays) direct to video, he can have a long career fighting with Charles Band for rental space on fourth tier Hollywood video shelves as far as I'm concerned.

I actually mean that seriously. I don't know what it is about it, maybe since I grew up with the Disney classics, all the 3D stuff just doesn't seem right. It seemed like a fit with Toy Story, but ever since then, it just hasn't seemed right.

How about taking a few minutes to head over to the Farrelly poster contest and update it with who won the poster and what the story was. I'm certain that you must have done like you said you would and notified the winner by the second weekend in January so how about letting everybody else know who won. Or did the Farrelly bros welch on the deal and not send you the poster on time? Those dirty welchers not following up on their promise. Boycott them I say!

WED & PKD??

Why not: FOX/DREAMWORKS (Minority Report), WARNER BROS (Blade Runner, A Scanner Darkly), TRISTAR (Total Recall), whoever did Screamers--- they all had a crack at bringing Phil Dick'stories to the big screen, so why couldn't the company that brought you Mickey, Donald and Goofy have a stab at it? Still, this is as surreal a H'wood pairing up as having Salvador Dali working with the Mouse...

Didn't realise PKD wrote anything with elves in it but King of the Elves sounds cool.

Anyone know why it is *Walt Disney's* King of the Elves though? What did the frozen head of Uncle Walt have to do with it?

"bear and the bow" originally disney?
by mansep
Apr 9th, 2008
03:28:42 AM
If you look at how the main films are staggered in the release schedule (with pixar and disney films alternating) it looks as if the bear and the bow was originally planned as a disney film (which kind of makes sense as it is a fairy tale)... so iwonder why it got turned into a pixar film... was it because the fairy tale is too obscure for disney?

(And I only noticed the double entendre as I was writing it, but I kept it, anyway.) Everything Dick ever wrote will be adapted, it seems. And the reason? Executive 1: "Hey, that dead sci-fi guy they adapted a couple times recently and made good money, he wrote anything else, Bob?" And so, because the executives only learn of writers and books once they're made into movies, every good, average and awful scrap written by Dick will be adapted, while Sheckley, Kuttner, Bradbury, Aldiss, Weinbaum and hundreds of others will remain on paper (and often out of print) only.
I'd rather see Tinkerbell get it....

Bradbury has at least had his day in the sun. Check his IMDb. In addition to Ray Bradbury Theater, the guy had dozens of stories turned into movies both theatrical and TV. He was in vogue in the '60s and '80s in the same way Dick is now.

PKD Books are mentioned in this TB except for We Can Build You. So... Disney/PIXAR's We Can Build You would rock!!! I for one hope they keep making Phillip K Dick books and stories into movies because, a) he was a fountain of great ideas and Hollywood is a desolate wasteland of formulaic crap, and 2) I always feel just a bit superior when saying, "Yeah well you should read the book if you want the real story." Also no one mentioned Paycheck or Next, although probably for good reason. Having said that, Next is based on The Golden Man which is a fucking cool story. Go read it.
