Nothing will get the ass-like taste of the first one out of my mouth. Michael Bay took my childhood to the movies and did bad things to him. Screw this movie--I wouldn't see it if it were free and I got a hand job from Jessica Biel just for showing up...

comments toward his previous transformers effort was its departure from the source material that people remember. The memories that justified the movie in the first place.

Glad Devestator will be in it. He is a much loved character. Hopefully Soundwave will be included and EJECTS THE TAPES FROM HIS CHEST! Well they dont have to be tapes, they can be some kind of cybertronian information storage rectangle.

Uggggggh.

The plants/undercover advertisers should be gone (they'll be back) from this TB for now, but no doubt a few people will come in claiming that we're bitching cause we wanted it "exactly like the cartoon"....when in the UNIVERSE did anyone say that? I dont want it to be exactly like the cartoon...you prob dont...nobody does. What we wanted it to be was GOOD, and reasonably respectful to franchise traditions of over twenty yrs. Thats all.

Cease the upcoming claims anyone wants it exactly like the cartoon.

I dunno. It depends. Even though I hated the robot designs and info leading up to the first one, I never denied I would go check it out, because its the return of the Transformers to the big screen. This time, however, I'm not so sure. And I'm not bluffing. If its more tin-foil madness I may skip it, or maybe watch it late in its run if I have one of those free movie passes. If its more of the same I dont see the motivation to go opening night, even when the promotional onslaught begins. The first was just too depressing.

Why are the Autobots, whom we're trying to take seriously, running around like a bunch of freakin' keystone cops? How is Bumblebee, a giant badass robot from another planet, taken out with a few ropes and a helicopter? Why does Michael Bay insist on shoving the American Flag down our collective throats? Why is Michael Bay a friggin idiot? Why did Michael Bay take back his anti-HD-DVD/Paramount comments?

zom-bot.com, your title deserves to be in caps.

WHY NOT...

- WHY NOT give a decent rendition of Optimus Prime, flat nosed truck, with facemask??

- WHY NOT make the characters relatively (not exactly) resemble their twenty yr. traditional counterparts??

-WHY NOT provide a backstory that comprises the elements and attributes and concepts of the long-standing series...i.e. the battle for resources, war machines vs. dock workers, imperialism vs. freedom??

-WHY NOT provide the robots with alternate modes and colors relatively (not exactly) resembling tradition??

Bottom line is...WHY NOT??? Do the flames and lips and tin foil transformations really bring in THAT much extra audience?? Why not be reasonably faithful.....WHY NOT????

All I remember of the first Transformers is that instead of much actual Robot on Robot fighting most of the stuff on-screen was either Robots falling over as a result of off-screen Robot on Robot action or Robots smashing inanimate objects whilst running/shooting at off-screen Robots. The only decent moments I recall are where Optimus stabs one in the head, the sequence with Starscream and the Jets, and... no, that's it.

Because you see the posts from cheerleaders saying: "I hope they have Choadtron and Buttfucktron in it this time!" Either way the movie unquestionably sucked, I only watched it after seeing the pics of the hot chick and she somehow managed to be visually smoking hot but killed all boners every time she opened her mouth, and that's the actresses fault because I saw her on talk shows, again looking nova-hot and when she opned her mouth instant turtle action. Anyone that can sit there and continue to watch that piece of shit after "Baby come back!" HAS to be an old-school 'toon geek because I would have walked out of the theater at that point it was so goddamned stupid. As it was I turned the DVD off about 15 minutes later, only watched 30 minute chunks at a time after that and never did make it all the way to the end it sucked so thoroughly. I mean come on, when they had that 'intelligence briefing' and those MD drinking college freshmen were in there representing the 'best and brightest' I wanted to claw my eyes out. Indefensable SHIT, case closed.

Whatever you might think of the movie, you have to admit the special effects were astonishing. That movie cost $150 million and it looked like they spent twice that (unlike Superman Returns that cost $200 million and looked like it cost half the amount). Seriously, I thought those robots were real, man. Then again, I was kinda high. But to give the Special Effects Oscar to The Golden Compass? That movie had a little girl riding a fuckin polar bear. ... was Michael Bay's penchant for stupid, elementary-level jokes and hijinks he forces into his action vehicles. Fat guys playing Dance Dance Revolution? Eating a full plate of donuts, screaming "SHE MADE ME DO IT" and then needing to take a shit? You know, this is what you see in Disney live action television aimed at preteens. It can't be "Oh, well, just making a kids movie for kids" bullshit since he does the same kind of shit in his hard-R movies like Bad Boys and The Rock. I figure Mikey just likes this kind of goddamn juvenile garbage. And he fucking repeats himself over and over and over again. Christ. He still represents everything that is wrong with the current state of movie making, no guts and no glory, but plenty of cash and hookers to throw around at cocaine parties. and all you who claim that real fans wouldn't possibly like it were proved wrong because on fair reflection this movie drew yet another line down the fandom that is Transformers. Quite simply some fans actually hated this movie so much that they spent more time on boards like this inventing new ways to emphasize just how much they hate the fact it was being successful. On the other hand some fans actually experienced a revelation and realized that the cartoon they grew up with really wasn't feasible or as well developed as they thought when they were kids and welcomed the changes that saw the franchise jump from childhood fandom to world wide hit! What is it about the clunky robot toys with their ridiculous names, designs and incomprehensible so called disguise modes that made such a huge faction of kids from the 80's single out that era of Transformers as the the only way it should ever be is beyond me. I was an 80's Transformer fan, I had every episode of the first two seasons on VHS and the animated movie. But when i watched them recently on DVD they were STUPID AS HELL!! Yet these same fans claim the movie was so bad and this cartoon was so great? Are they even on the same planet as us with this kind of disjointed assessments? The cartoon had robots who leave their planets because of an energy crisis and 4 million years after crashing on Earth they resume fighting and on their home planet the crisis is still ongoing.. A 4 million year energy crisis?! The cartoon featured every kind of contrived way to represent the toys as some feasible robot like three Robots that combined to form one tiny camera, or a 25 foot leader of the Decepticons who turned into a small handgun and hoped whoever handled him had decent aim? It had joke after joke based on automobiles and vehicles of any kind, Spkie's dad was called "Sparkplug" for Christ-sake! I even saw an episode where a wheelchair bound kid called Chip, uses his home micro-computer to control n Autobot and make him fight three Decepticons! And if two season of this silly stuff wasn't bad enough on reflection, the animated movie which i loved when i was younger, simply can't explain its sudden need to wipe out every character representing the old toys so that it can feature the unexplained arrival and headlining of a whole bunch of new characters/toys including teenage robots and ONE FEMALE!? Literally this is "Smurf" social dynamics we're talking here! yet these die-hard fans maintain that this stuff is far superior to what Bay delivered. Well in the end of the day preference is down to the individual just as money speaks louder than words. In this case, Transformers never had a bigger payday at the box office than with Bay's film which notched up over $700 million worldwide in comparison to the Animated movie's £5 million. I thoroughly enjoyed Michael Bay's Transformer adaptation of the Toys, it captured the spirit of all that was good about the Transformers i watched as a kid yet delivered a much more conceivable story for both the casual viewer and the fan who doesn't have a narrow mind. (sorry die-hards but there is no way any nation in the world is going to let alien robots on their turf and not get involved in the fight week in week out like in the cartoon, you'd have to be so stupid to still swallow crap like that at your age) Eventually the 2nd movie will come and it will be met with the same die-hard, narrow-minded mentality about how they preferred the toys and no humans in the limelight etc but don't for one second believe because you die-hards can gather around to spill out your hate in forums such as these like a bunch of Wankers meeting up in a toilet to jerk off into the same toilet bowl. You will remain simply a bunch of Wankers who enjoy blowing your wad together while the rest of the world is happily moving on, enjoying such films as Bay's Transformers for what its worth and simply moving on. And YES, this exercise of constantly hating on Bay and his Transformer movie is simply MASTURBATION, it may make you feel good but it does not produce LIFE! ..Get a life!

"...don't do it at all."

WHy does it seem people never take that into consideration?

1) A film making money at the BO does NOT make it a "good" quality film

2) Just because someone's only expectations for a film is that it show "robots detroying things" doesn't mean that meeting this expectation automatically makes it a "good" quality film. If that was all you wanted to see, why didn't you just go rent Robot Jox?

If someone's goign to make a movie based on a property that has a built-in audience due to its history and nostalgia for that history...then perhaps the moviemaker should try to incorporate as much of that history as possible???

And if you aren't going to do that, why bother? Because it makes money....I know.....(rolls eyes)

I haven't met a single one of you Die-hards who can explain to me that with all you found hard to swallow in the live action Bay movie; you managed to eat up the bollocks in the animated flick. I'm Talking about after ten years of fighting on Earth as well as being stranded there for 4 million years, there was never any sign of another unique alien planet inhabited by robots. Yet in one movie, we get introduced by a Robot planet that eats other robot planets (that's two in the first 5 minutes) and then as they escape from Earth (with no help defending autobot city from any of the worlds nations except a little boy!) they crash land on a planet of junk inhabited by more robots (who watch Earth TV?) after flying for 5 minutes (that's three) and then crash on another planet ruled by more robots who judge and execute other robots (that's four)! FOUR robot planets withing spitting distance in one movie that were never discovered before in 4 million years? Along with make-it-up-as-you-go introduction of the Matrix of leadership, the sudden appearance of a whole new starring cast, ONE FEMALE ROBOT, a break-dancing robot and some twisted logic that defeating Unicon somehow equates to the Autobots suddenly winning the Cybertron war and claiming back the planet.. anyone preferring this drivel to Bay's Transformers deserves a permanent "Vacant" sign in the toilet while he performs his favorite past-time with the other Wankers!

The biggest problem with the Transformers movie, was that Michael Bay and a few dozen others decided that they knew better than the millions of Transformer fans out there. Bay and his collaborators decided they were better qualified to construct a story using their own measure of what is cool and interesting. Which, in Bay's mind, as he is a protégé of Bruckheimer, is how do you make the most money. So, you get the accessible, but not perfect leading man, the hot chick, the heroic and handsome military guys, another hottie computer hacker, the funny talks to loud overweight hacker, the grandfatherly Jon Voight character (it just so happens it was Voight) and the nebbishy, clueless, government baddy. In addition to these two dimensional, focus group appealing characters, we also got a two dimensional story. Lets see, lets throw in some Armageddon (with the meteors), some vast techo/hacker crap (which would be any number of movies made in the last ten years), ET (the BumbleBee capture scene) and you could even throw Matrix Reloaded in there too (with the high way chase scene). The last thing Transformers was about . . .was Transformers. They were absolutely beside the point in that film. The movie very easily could have just been called Robots from Space. If Bay wants to make films that make money I wish he would just say so. Call me a huge geek, but these characters and this story, meant something to me as a kid and it is disappointing that it is raped and pillaged so ruthlessly. There is a great movie, even a great series of movies in Transformers. I would bet a huge some of money that a more talented committed filmmaker could make a better movie, with a smaller budget, that would make more money than Bay can. If Transformers had been good, I certainly would have seen it more than once. I would have bought the DVD, maybe even a piece of crap souvenir or two. But now, I promise I will not see the second one. Michael Bay doesn't care about this material and it shows.

or don't because it's ridiculous.

"their ridiculous names, designs and incomprehensible so called disguise modes.."

The same could be said of Bay's movie.

AS for your diatribe above, if you look back at your episodes of transformers and think they're a bunch of garbage that you no longer appear to have any nostalgia for, then it's YOU I feel sorry for.

We all grow up, but I have no disdain for liking the "silly things" I enjoyed as a kid. Of course there are things like a guy named "Sparkplug" (which was obviously a nickname), but defending Bay's movie by picking apart things like Megatron transforming into "small" gun pointless and hypocritical. There were the same kind of inconsistencies in Bay's movie.

Bumblebee can scan anything with his headlights to change his shape? Why wouldn't they all be doing this shit all the time, then? One of the autobots "pees" oil?

Whatever, it's just funny to me that you complain about people in a MOVIE forum complaining about a movie, but then you go and...POST A BIG COMPLAINT on this site about complainers.

Never got the fascination with the Transformer movie

The TV show was cheesey and the toys usually broke in a could of weeks. I guess I never got the affection with the whole Transformers thing. I liked GI Joe better at the time and I have no emotional attachement to the new GI Joe movie coming out next year. I will probably see it, but I won't feel it raped my childhood if it sucks.

I thought the Transformer movie was ok, but it was just a loud dumb Michael Bay movie (are there any kind). I still think Michael Bay movies work best when he has actors who can carry his plot-less, stupid, action (like Nic Cage, Sean Connery, and Al Harris in the Rock; Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Tea Leoni, and Joey Pants in at least the first Bad Boys; and even Billy Bob Thornton and Bruce Willis in Armegeddon). Sorry, but I didn't think Shia LeBeof or Megan Fox are good enough to carry the stupid action. Let's face it Fox is to acting that Bay's movies are to film: Pretty to look at, but not a lot of depth.

1986 TF movie was badass. It was groundbreaking in terms of violence found in a cartoon, there weren't many like that back then. Yeah there were the usual issues that plagued the TV series, but it didn't have a Bay $150 mil budget either. The 1986 movie needs to be seen in context with the series/comics that led up to it, rather than standalone...the movie assumes you know the story/characters.

1. You really think Unicron ate 2 planets in literally 5 minutes? All your time lapse complaints are really reaching.

2. One female robot shown ON SCREEN. The Decepticons conquered Cybertron we dont know what happened to the ones from the series.

3. Break dancing robot? What was Jazz doing during his transforming in Bay's crap?

4. All your complaints are just being super picky and taking things out of context, unlike Bays movie where there is no context and its just standalone garbage. Compare your complaints to the stupid human story in Bay's movie, Autobots in the backyard, flames and lips on Optimus, those character designs, Bumblebee "peeing", Bumblebee speaking in song, the Sector 7 crap, the lame jokes, and the shaky cam...and you wanna make a comparison?

Your rationale does not explain how Titanic managed to make $600 million domestically all the way back in 1997 when no film had even topped $400 million and still today 11 years later no film has managed $500 million let alone $600 million. Nor does your rationale explain how Titanic made $1.8 billion worldwide (that's nearly $2 billion) when no film had ever come close to topping at least $1 billion in its first run; and even 11 years after that mark, only two other films have ever managed to scrape and struggle past the 1$billion mark while Titanic sits close to $2 billion? Buts on seats equate to popularity regardless of your own personal feelings on a films worth. Films that are not popular do not make money. The Animated Transformers did not make money, the live action made tons, why? Because it was popular! Welcome to being in a minority, obviously the feeling is nothing like what you ever conceived it would be.

How was the 1986 movie groundbreaking with Violence when animated films like Heavy Metal (1981) depicted worse violence and sex! And as for Jazz breakdancing, that's exactly what i'm talking about, you die-hards complain about that yet wheelie did the same thing in the animated film and he'd never even set foot on earth! You and others like you are trying to tell me one level of contrivity is superior to another, yet rationally Bay's reason for Jazz assuming the "street" persona after downloading all information on the entire WW.Web on entry to Earth makes helluva lot more sense than some robot wh's never even heard of Earth before let alone watched Fresh Prince of Bel Air episode suddenly breaking into Def, Dope and completely whack break-dancing moves! Trust me, you guys are simply biased based on your inability to let go of your childhood and the more you get together and agree on crap like this, the worse and more narrow-minded you all look when other assess your complaints about Bay's Transformers in comparison to the various versions they made in cartoon and comic forms. Bay's film is certainly no worse than any of those and it most definitely is a whole lot better for a general audience.

Learn to read, not wank! I said "Butts on seats equals popularity" not "Great Film!" you irrational Jerk-off! Poularity does not equate to greatness! A film has to be outstanding in its achievements at very least on a technical level in order to be considered truly great. And technically Bay's Transformers makes a whole lot more sense than the animated making-it-up-as-they-go tv show did so YES, it's greater than your childhood wet dreams in the real world, but in your Matrix of Transformer cartoon dreams where all makes nonsense swallowed like an over-eager Fluffer, naturally Bay's Transformers doesn't hold a candle to the mighty animated film because you and everyone you know bought the VHS and the T-Shirt? ...hmm, unfortunately for you the rest of the world didn't share your opinion of that 90 minute NEW toyline commercial back in 1986. But they damn right did share mine in 2007 with Michael Bays movie which I, like you was all prepared to hate, but can't honestly say in true comparison would prefer to watch the animated over this far more feasible and entertaining live action presentation.

So, you're now saying Bay's film is okay because it was better for a general audience? Because the general movie-going public doesn't need dumbed-down, trendy shit? Making something more accessible for the general movie-going public doesn't make a film better. It is only done in hopes it will make more money.

According to wikipedia:"Reviews of the film were generally favorable. Review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes reported that 57% of critics gave the film positive write-ups, based on 199 reviews, with a 68% rating from selected "notable" critics. At the website Metacritic, which assigns its own subjective rating out of 100 to each review, the film has received an average score of 61, based on 35 reviews." Roger Ebert:" It's goofy fun with a lot of stuff that blows up real good, and it has the grace not only to realize how preposterous it is, but to make that into an asset." BBC:" It's outrageous, stupid fun and you should see it on the biggest screen you can find." I guess people will post up negative reviews, of which there are many. Usually by people too old to care or too young to remember the original TF. It is bizarre to read all these people on talkback ranting on about the integrity of TF and how great the original was. It’s like saying the original Batman and Superman comics were so amazing and credible and edgy so they should be adapted like Sin City. I’m not comparing TF to those characters I’m just saying that if you look at the old cartoons on youtube- they look like ass. The animated film has aged better (probably because it was a bit more intense) but isnt great. I always went with the comics anyway and I've read some of the old UK ones recently and wished I hadn’t. I liked Transformers when I was a kid and sat through fucking Wacaday just to watch about three minutes of an episode. At least Moriarity had the class to admit that Bay had done a good job- and Moriarity review of Pearl Harbour was scathing (and the one of the best I’ve read on here). You guys will sit and wank all day over Star Wars but they really arent great- is anyone here gonna defend the Ewoks, the rubbish editing, the awful scripts, the stilted line readings in the original trilogy. I bet shitloads here loved King Kong and that was one of the most boring films Ive seen in a long while. The best review of TF was on here- one guy said it was like watching of his favourite Saturday morning cartoons come to life. All it needed was some beer, and GI JOE on after.

by Samus Aran

You don't seem to understand the basis for the hatred that the fans have for "Bayformers". I was a HUGE fan of the toys when I was a kid, and it was not because of the cartoon whatseover, in fact I could barely stand the cartoon really. You are correct that the cartoon was full of garbage ideas and explanations, and I have never seen that animated movie because I knew that they introduced a bunch of new and poorly designed transformers early on in the movie, and they killed all the well designed ones that I cared about. The simple fact is that it just isn't enough to make "giant fucking robots" (I have come to hate that term, hearing it over and over again). I think there were dozens of poorly designed giant fucking robots all throughout childhood, and I ignored all of them. But I loved original Transformers because they were well designed. Not only did I love the idea of cars and jets that transformed into robots, but I loved how they looked when the did turn into robots, because they still looked like cars and jets. Michael Bay and his concept artist Ben Procter (who is a very untalented artist, trust me if you can't tell by looking at his work), they have no understanding of why Transformers had such visual appeal in the first place. They don't understand that the reason Jazz looked so damn cool was because his chest was the hood of a Porsche, and his feet were made up of the back spoiler and had huge rubber wheels right there on the sides of his legs. I have read the talkbacks here, and people have been describing Michael Bay and Ben Procters designs as shredded tin foil- this is a perfectly acurate description of those designs. I do not like transformers because I am fascinated with tin foil and junk metal, I love transformers because I love to see a robot that litterally looks like he is made out of a car. I like Transformers because they look strong too, and Ben Procters designs look like the transformers are made out of a bunch of small weak pieces of metal that can break off any second or be bent. I have read that Michael Bay had no interest in Transformers at first, and looking at the movie clearly he wasn't a fan of the characters in any form. I see that Michael Bay wanted to reinvent them completely so that he could put his signiture on them. I am so glad that Peter Jackson didn't have such a massive ego that overpowered the original style and intent of a beloved story. I didn't really care so much about the bad story problems in Bayformers, because I was so distracted by the terrible robot designs, but I don't understand how people can have such a poor sense of logic, that the ludicrous ideas in that movie didn't cause them to totally zone out and stop paying attention to what was going on. And I noticed that Michael Bay used his cheap shot once again, the same one he uses in every movie of his- he put a very beautiful girl in there just to distract us from the poor quality of his film making. Having hot girls in movies is almost always the mark of a poorly made movie. When I want to see a beautiful girl, I'll watch porn, not Transformers. Mixing what should have been a somewhat serious movie with porn is like mixing a Ribeye Steak with Strawberry Syrup. Sure I want both at one time or another, but not at the same time dammit. Anyway, I have noticed that the only people that love Bayformers are the ones that never gave a damn about Transformers in the first place, oh and that one guy who posted earlier during his defense of Bayformers that his Transformers toys always broke within the first couple of weeks. Yes I noticed when I was a kid that all the dumb kids had broken transformers, while the smarter ones knew how to be careful with the delicate parts. All the people defending Bayformers speak like very uninteligent people, and they clearly have no sense of aesthetics. I would have never bought a toy that looked like these Bayformers when I was a kid- toys like that always existed, and they were the poorly designed garbage toys.

I have to admit, I enjoyed the Transformers movie for what it was. Not really really enjoyed but the movie didn't make me want to take my two hours back. But it wasn't anything special, it doesn't deserve a sequel at all. There were so many things that Bay got wrong that I'm afraid that the franchise is FUBAR. Cut back on the people and comedy. It's only funny the first time, but I cannot sit through that film again... second viewing will just make it annoying and you skip to the action sequences. And I'll stress it again, CUT back on the people characters and only focus more on the Transformers themselves... The only good people we need ar the military and others as basic plot devices. We cana lways use mroe of Megan Fux though... if you need a central character, use her. Fuck Shia's character, he and his family are just annoying. Cut down on the fucking jokes!

That's supposed to be embarrassing to me? I should be ashamed I didn't like that movie? I challenge you to explain to me in detail why you think it is a good movie or why you think I should like it WITHOUT using any of the following copouts:

1. It's not supposed to be Shakespeare

2. It's not supposed to win Oscars

3. It's only a summer popcorn movie, it is not supposed to be good

4. What did you expect? It's supposed to be moronic and insulting, not great entertainment

5. Why would you expect competent action sequences, nobody ever said you could tell which character was which, where they were standing, what they were doing or whether they were right side up or not

6. Good comedy is overrated, it is actually more daring to load a movie with groaner after groaner

7. It is actually illegal now to make great summer event movies like ALIENS or TERMINATOR 2

In other words it has to be about what the movie personally means to you and what you thought worked about it, and not what low standards you are holding it up to. If you can do that I will respect your opinion, although I will really, really, really disagree with it.

(But how did this become about me, anyway? I didn't say anything.)

(1 scene) characters in that character/casting list. Why? I find it so distracting in every one of his films that he has some relatively well-known actor in a one minute cameo that could be played by ANYone. Also why was every black person in the first Transformers the comedic relief for that part of the film, with the exception of Tyrese? I enjoyed Transformers because its brought to life characters I enjoyed when I was a kid and always suspected would be cool in a live action movie. Why is it good? 1. It’s got a cool central premise: vehicles and stuff are actually intelligent robots that transform to blend in. 2. There’s a good mythology- they have been fighting a war on their own planet. Their planet has been destroyed and they had to leave. They’re searching for the Allspark. There’s loads of cool characters and relationships- Prime and Megatron, Megatron and Starscream and loads of others in the comics that can be used for a sequel. Grimlock! 3. Visually it looked fantastic at times. If you’re saying that Michael Bay doesn’t make cool visuals that could all be postcards then you’re just hating and not being objective I’m afraid. And just because you didn’t like the action doesn’t mean that a lot of people did like it. The scene at the army base at the start is fucking intense, as is the highway battle, the part where Prime is holding on the Megs when he’s in the air and so on. There maybe was a bit too much shaky-cam. Batman Begins and the second and third Bourne movies had the same shit- maybe even worse. They were still good. I haven’t heard anyone say it but the Bumblebee design looks spot on - if anyone says it isn’t they need to look up Goldbug. Blackout was cool as well as Ironhide. Ironhide! The part where he drove in slow motion towards Devestator was cool! Also loved the scene where the Autobots arrive to Earth. Also loved the score (again if you say that crap you’re just hating). The part where Bumblebee beams an Autobot symbol into the sky... I liked it- if you didn’t Vern fair enough. I’m a fellow Blade 2 fan so we agree on some stuff. Go back to the talkbacks and see how many people slated that or how many awful reviews it got. You stick to stuff like Half Past Dead and other masterpieces. People who actually like to enjoy themselves at the cinema will watch stuff that has action, cool visuals and effects and a bit of humour. But Blockbusters come in many flavors- some people fucking hate pineapple on their pizza. I watched Transformers, loved it and then went to the pub. Can’t wait for the sequel.

Fine, I'll defend the film by doing what you all want: The source material. Transformers the series was never about anything more than a bunch of robots that can become something else kicking the shit out of other robots that can become something else in order to gain some great power. Autobots fought to protect humanity at behest of various leaders, usually Optimus Prime. Decepticons under Megatron fought to get the power and humanity be damned. And usually there were annoying humans involved in the storyline, which inevitably was simple and ended with a moral. Transformers the movie 2007 was about a bunch of robots that can become something else kicking the shit out of other robots that can become something else in order to gain some great power. Autobots fought to protect humanity at behest of Optimus Prime. Decepticons under Megatron fought to get the power and humanity be damned. And there were annoying humans involved in the storyline, which was simple. What the hell were you expecting? The entire franchise was only created to sell toys. It's always been about money, why are you so surprised with this? Transformers was a lot of fun, had some of the best special effects ever made (Fuck Golden Compass) and if you didn't like it, then I'm sorry for you and your lack of ability to have fun in a theatre any more. Fortunately a whole hell of a lot of people think the way I do, and I'm gonna get at least 2 more kickass sequels, which you'll swear to the heavens that you won't see but once the internet badass persona is replaced for your real life anoymity, you'll be in line with the rest of us on day one. You answered my challenge, although at the end when you said "People who actually like to enjoy themselves at the cinema will watch stuff that has action, cool visuals and effects and a bit of humour" I feel you were going against the spirit of the challenge. You clearly know that I enjoy all of those things, I just think this particular movie does a terrible job of them. Of course I like to enjoy myself at the cinema, that's why this kind of movie offends me.

With alot of the reasons you gave I sort of thought "I guess you had to be there," because without being familiar with all that stuff from the cartoons or comics or whatever I sure didn't get that out of the movie. For example I got no clue who most of those characters are that you mentioned. I do remember Bumblebee because he was yellow and Optimus because he was red. The rest I couldn't tell apart. Maybe if they had been given more screen time I would know who was who I guess.

But I'm glad you got something out of it and could explain it while (mostly) not falling back on that bullshit of calling somebody an elitist or saying their expectations are too high for wanting something more out of it.

Hey Zom Bot, I've been reading over your posts, and I think you and I pretty much see eye to eye on this movie. I think Michael Bay is clearly the least talented mainstream director working today, and so I was extremely dissapointed when I first learned he was directing Transformers. But basically, I just really didn't care way too much how bad the story and logic of it was. It would have been appreciated if the story was well written, but I didn't get a well written story back in the 80's either, as some Bayformers deffenders have correctly pointed out. However, as impressed as most people seem to be with the visuals of Transformers, a truly talented director like James Cameron would have filmed such a movie in a way that would actually make me believe that these robots were real. Michael Bay has no interest in convincing his audience of anything, whatsoever. At no time did I forget that I was watching a movie and believed even for a moment that this was real. It doesn't seem that the defenders of Bayformers actually care that something seems real in a movie. They just are satisfied with a visual bonanza, and their support for such low quality movies is the very reason why we have not seen a movie on the level of "Alien" in 20 years. For 20 years I have been starving for a truly believable movie such as that, but instead I get Michael Bay year after year after year after year. I'd like to know just how immersed people felt when they watched Van Helsing, because they are going to get more of that when GI Joe comes out, trust me. I don't know exactly why good directors aren't touching Science Fiction any more, but perhaps people like Michael Bay are easier to deal with for movie producers, than people who have an attitude problem like Ridley Scott and James Cameron, but make stunningly believable movies. Please fellow Science Fiction fans, let's put a stop to this constant stream of low quality sci-fi. I'm not sure if Transformers could have ever been a truly terrific movie- it does have a pretty rediculous premise to begin with (and I say that as a huge Transformers fan), but the best sci-fi that we have received in the last 20 damn years is the Matrix, and the simple fact was that it wasn't really that good. Back in the 80's we used to eat gourmet, But since then we have been weened onto a steady diet of McDonalds. I'm can see a lot of people think they are getting terrific movies, but that is only because they have forgotten what they are missing. Nobody seems to understand just how mindblowing our movies could be every year. This is what we deserve, we don't deserve the scraps off the table that we get year after year. Stop talking about good ol' mindless popcorn flicks, as if that is ok to be watching year after year. Demand a movie on the caliber of "Alien", "Aliens", "Empire Strikes Back", "The Road Warrior", "Blade Runner". Why aren't we getting these? It's because of you Transformers apologists, you just keep on excepting the poison that hollywood keeps shoving down our throat, and WHY? Don't go to see Transformers 2. Just say "This far and no further". Don't go see "10,000 BC", Don't see "GI Joe", Don't see "Jumper" Don't see "Spider-Man 3" a second time (many of us were tricked into that one). These terrible directors have got to be run out of hollywood. Learn their names and never see their movies. Their names are Michael Bay, Roland Emerich, Joel Schumacher, Stephen Sommers, Jerry Bruckheimer. Shun these assholes, they don't deserve any attention. More Michael Bays are popping up left and right. Those idiot writers had a strike for what seemed like a year, now it is time for us to boycott terrible science fiction movies. Eventually the producers will hear us, and will stop feeding us this trash.

The biggest difference between the show

and Bay's movie is that the Transformers weren't the main characters in the movie. This has been said many, many times and I don't know why people who liked the movie can't wrap their heads around that.

Sure, the general concept of robots from another planet coming to Earth is the same but the change in perspective changes the story.

My biggest gripe with the movie is that Starscream didn't do anything until the end. He's been aching for a chance to be the leader and with Megatron on ice he had his chance. I was desperate for that scene where would try to take control of the Decepticons. Brawl would have been on his side because he's a Combaticon. But Bonecrusher would have been loyal to Megatron because he's a Constructicon. That entire subplot -- the divide among Decepticons to either find Megatron or go with Starcream's plan (whatever that may be) -- could have been neat.

That's really what it comes down to. Retaining the tone and spirit of the show. A direct line for line adaptation of the show would have been embarassing. But if you at least capture the spirit of the Transformer characters the spectacle would have been more enoyable for me.

The absolutely crucial changes that bay fucked up on for me as a big time childhood fan were these 1. No inclusion of the Autobots spaceship the ark. He could have started the film with a banner saying 4 million years ago and had a heard of dinosaurs disturbed by a large screech from above as a spaceship comes burning through the atmosphere..would have been a cool start..over 4 million years of geographical shift the arc becomes buried and undetectable also due to its technology. The ark computer is reactivated after 4 million years by an earth quake and sends out a probe to search for lifeforms which it only recognises as metallic so after identifying cars and vehicles as the main lifeforms of the planet the arc ship itself alters all the unconscious transformers inside to mimic earthlike machines. Each transformer only able to become one thing only and not able to transform itself just by looking at something. 2.The fact that the tranformers were trapped and that most of there conflicts with the decepticons were about either the stealing of earth resources to make energon for fuel or machinery that might get them back to cybertron. 3.Bays Transformers came across as idiots and not intelligent beings with different well rounded personalities which was definately the case in the comics. There were so many great stories in the comics which would translate really well to film..Circuitbreaker would be a great character to introduce. She was a highly intelligent computer operator on an oil rig who was paralysed down one side of her body in an attack by the decepticon shockwave. But she designed a cool looking series of metal strips that covered her body and acted as her central nevouse system. It also gave her the ability to fly by repeling herself from metal objects and also channel enormous amounts of electricity through her body. Effectively she could then pretty much kick any transformers ass with ease. But she could never distinguish between good robots and bad robots because she was so filled with rage over what had happened to her. Circuit breaker versus several transformers could make a F***** awesome action sequence.
Jeez, how can you not like that.

What is it about Transformers that just bring the blithering idiot side out of everyone who actually deigns to defend it? I mean here we are again and immediately the same horseshit defenses begin oozing out of the woodwork. "It has action and I like action!" "It's based on a stupid toy commercial!" "Go watch your art films and let me have fun jerkoff!". Not a single one of these actually cares to defend the film on a single one of it's merits (or lack thereof) and are basically ways of saying "I'm an idiot and I'm threatened by your lack of idiocy!" Sorry, but Transformers was boring (that first hour is painful, concentrates on random terrible human characters, has personalityless robots which defeats the entire purpose of Transformers, and is poorly directed. You wanna give someone credit? Make it the special effects guys and Shia Labeouf for not sucking in that thankless role, because there is literally NOTHING else about that cynical movie worth enjoying. And tot hose of yous aying "You saw the first one and you'll go to this one too!" I didn't see the first one, I caught it on an airplane, efectively bypassing giving any money whatsoever to Michael Bay's terrible film.....and no I didn't even buy the headphones, I had my own.

Transformers has good action, looks cool, got cool vehicles in it, amazing special effects, characters from a comic I enjoyed, some funny jokes, Shia Le Beoufs' not too annoying, and it has a good score as well. I enjoyed it. I'm guessing you didnt. So why did you even finish watching it? Why are you here on this talkback then? Shouldnt you be on the talkbacks for the other news items? Maybe, even one that is about a film you might wanna see? You need to chill out. Its only a movie.

glad i reminded you of CB.. the thing is with transformers is that even though my fascination with it ended in my mid teens when the comic in the uk ended it was still pretty much the only comic book i really got into from when i was 9 in 1985 (deathshead and dragons claws being the other 2). Its so frustrating to see someone like Bay essentially disregard the entire canon of story and facts and essentially carry a few names and just the Transforming gimmick into a big budget movie that could have been so much more. I know it was originally designed to sell a toy range but the writers, artists and colourers did some decent work and frankly deserved alot more consideration and so did the fanbase. Changing some of the things he did was(for the fans) like giving superman a green costume or batman a utility rucksack. Those fans would be outraged at such changes and so Transformers fans have a right to be outraged. Unfortunately it made a big fat wedge of cash because todays kids loved it which is fair enough for them but this is not like Batman or Superman and i just dont think any half knowledgable Transformers fan is gonna get a chance to see the movie they really wanted to see.

I dont mind disagreement. Sometimes the talkbackers are funny with it. I guess I just get bored with people hating on a movie that hasn't even started filming, that nobody has any idea what the exact story is (though knowing Bay it will probably involve explosions). It also does my head in when people obviously are gonna hate on a film because everyone has decided that Bay has mostly produced films they didnt like and cant possibly ever change their mind about him (though a lot of haters seem to know a lot about those films). I thought Pearl Harbour was fucking awful- I couldn't even finish watching it. But Bay has made a couple of films I liked. Yes it would have been better if Guillermo Del Toro or the Wachowski Bros. had directed TF. But they didnt. the end product wasnt too bad though; it was worth seven quid.

If I had no previous knowledge about TF I think I'd have thought it was an okay bit of summer fluff. What annoyed me more than anything is that it really was a missed opportunity. They could have made made something really great as there is an glut of great characters and stories in the TF universe. Instead they made Toy Soldiers with less soul and giant robots instead of plastic toys.

I guess we just disagree. I still think it delivered spectacle and a sense of fun and awe at times. I think it hinted at other shit going on. I agree that there were missed opportunities. I also think some of the stuff (the Allspark turning stuff into robots) was not well thought out. But they made the best movie they could at the time. Go and look at the source material- the cartoons in particular. I personally didnt see the show much but read all the comics I could get. Dont any of guys think that maybe- now that they have established some stuff- that they might be able to do the stuff that guys wanted to see? Think Mad Max vs The Road Warrior. I know the same guys are involved. But it sounds like they have hardly started yet. And Transformers has had many iterations- just check out all teh different series on Wikipedia. stuff in Japan that I had never heard of. Im just hoping it could be good. Less goofy is good. More robots would also be good.

are both right.

Bay's TF was definitely spectacle but the missed opportunities were too pervasive. I was giddy as a schoolboy when Bonecrusher and Optimus faught on the freeway but it was just a 30 second scene when it could have been much longer. Compare that to the seemingly 10 minute scene of Autobots hiding in backyard and it just doesn't sit well with me.

gotham_night, I don't think anyone has said the cartoon does hold up very well. Like I said earlier, I direct copy of the cartoon would have been embarrassing. But just because we can look back and realize how silly it was, it doesn't mean we're going to completely disown what it meant for us as kids. The feeling we had as kids watching the cartoon could have been translated, it could have been adapted to the big screen in a fully functioning, live action, mass appealing summer movie spectacle that made everyone happy.

TF could have been Jurassic Park, the once in a generation event movie. JP made $350 million domestic in 1993 dollars. TF made $320 million last year. Bay turned it into just another summer blockbuster. A property as recognizable and appealing as TF could have made $500 million. It could have been absolutely massive.

i quite enjoyed transformers. so did everyone i spoke to about it. everyone. so i dont know where this "everyone thought it was shit" line of thought comes from. it was a fun film to watch and, believe it or not, more people than not agree with that and will have no issues paying to see another one. and, can people stop acting like their custom, their patronage of a movie is the most important ticket that will be sold in the world, like the studio is waiting by the phone praying for confirmation this one person saw it cos that means its a certified hit. the "i wont see this it the movies, i may however watch it if it crosses my path one night when im at home watching cable late at night". just enjoy cinema, folks, stop picking holes in it all the time.

You have to be fair and acknowledge that it goes both ways. For every person that didn't like Transformers and says they won't pay to see the sequel there is a person that did like the movie and says they WILL pay to see the sequel. Their individual patronage is just as meaningless.

And also about what you said about not knowing where the "everyone thought it was shit" line comes from -- well, you just said "everyone" you spoke to about enjoyed it. It's the exact same thing. A lot of people are going to say "everyone they talked to" enjoyed it or didn't enjoy it. People tend to hang around with like-minded individuals. It's not always that way but it tends to be that way. I think the cat's out of the bag -- Transformers is divisive -- but people on both says will continue to say "everyone."

And is it so hard to understand that people just didn't like a movie based exclusively on the movie? Saying I didn't like Transformers because I'm predisposed to hating Michael Bay is the same as me saying you liked it because you're just a shallow moviegoer accustomed to drivel.

I'm glad people enjoyed the movie. Good for them that they had a good time. I love summer blockbusters but Transformers wasn't my cup of tea.

I don't know why I even bother reading talkbacks for transformers. Because it immediately devolves into complaints that this was a personal affront to people's mothers or something. Like Michael Bay has literally murdered and/or raped and/or exploded your mother and this is the only way you can get revenge.

Of course now, I go into my personal opinion of the movie and explain why my opinion is right and everyone else's is wrong. I might even provide you with a list of things that I liked/disliked about the movie. Listen, I get why people hate it. I get why people love it. I get why some people are even indifferent to this movie.

The thing is, enjoy it if you want to. If you don't, then ignore it. The fact is the franchise is officially successful whether you like it or not. So create your own Transformers movie or move on. But anytime a Transformers news story is posted, it's like the internet explodes. It just doesn't make sense.

I'm not trying to say that anyone is better or worse than anyone else. I just think that this situation has been going on for almost three years now. This is the reality of the franchise, for better or worse.

I think what annoys me the most is the vitriol that is expressed against those who share a differing opinion. If people were actually having constructive discussions instead of attacking each other, I might be less annoyed with it. I think people who did not grow up with the cartoon underestimate the care that people who did have for the program and people who did grow up with the show overestimate the amount of "loyal" transformers fans there are out there.

To add my two cents, if the character breakdowns are to be believed, I find the continued presence of the military to be entirely useless in these movies.

Things wrong with Transformers: List Follows
by Stereotypical Evil Archer
Apr 4th, 2008

1.The Hackers were useless and not needed. 2. Sector 7 wasn't worthwhile and should have been kept more secret and mysterious. 3. Character design was terrible and it was hard to tell one from the other and who was good and who was bad. The robots should have had more human-like faces. 4. Megatron did not transform into something Earth-like; therefore it was pointless to have him in a Transformers Movie that takes place on Earth. 4. Bay used some human stereotypes that are just insulting. 5. Not enough robot vs. robot action. 6. Too Transformery; transforming was cool but WAY overdone. Simpler designs would have been just as cool and would have made the characters easier to identify. 7. The allspark was far too complex of a MacGuffin. Something much more simple could have been several times more effective. 8. Bay makes things pretty and sexy but not GRITTY and EMOTIVE. 9. The editing and fictional geography were confusing. Geography is very important, especially in battles. What happened to Barricade? He was on the highway and then without warning or explanation he wasn't in the movie. That's just plain stupid. 10. The whole thing of Sam being related to the Explorer was too contrived, and not needed. Boy gets car, car is a robot, crazy adventures ensue...that's a kick ass movie. So, that's enough. I hate those things about about the movie. Megan Fox was sexy but could have played that up more. Shia..., I actually enjoyed him finding out his car was a robot. The high school age/social seting was a little too forced. Despite all of that. Despite it being 30 minutes too long, maybe 40 minutes too long; I like the movie. There are moments that work, and those few (very few) moments are just iconic and lasting. It could have been a far greater movie and I wish it was. But I still enjoy it.

People who don't know what a McGuffin is. If it has a use, is actually used, or has a general purpose in the film, it is not a McGuffin. A "McGuffin" is the term used when a director makes you focus on a certain detail, sometimes over-implicating it (i.e. the license plate shot in the original "Psycho"), with hopes that you will think it will somehow tie into a resolve to the story. The twist it that the item in and of itself eventually has no place or used purpose in the story at all, and does not help solve a particular problem. So, in conclusion, don't refer to the Allspark as a McGuffin because it WAS actually used to destroy Megatron. Argue, if you may.

That's a very good point but I'm not sure it's that simple. I think a McGuffin can be central to the plot as long as we're not privy to what exactly the object is all about.

I remember a similar discussion about Ronin. The briefcase directly motivates the plot and characters but because we never find out what's in the briefcase or to what end it serves, it qualifies as a McGuffin. That's how I see it anyway.

Lately George Lucas has misused "McGuffin" when talking about the IJ movies. Those movies' plot devices are not McGuffins because we know what the objects are, what they do and we see them doing it. I agree with you that the AllSpark is most definitely not a McGuffin.

It's rather irritating, having to read just HOW MANY people insult Michael Bay's Transformers film. I'll agree that it completely ignored the source material. I have every Generation One season set on DVD, three different copies of the 1986 movie, and the 1986 movie poster on my wall and I am keenly aware of just how little Michael Bay gave a shit for the source material and how much said source material meant to the fans of the show and the comics. With that said, will people PLEASE quit their bitching! I mean honestly, Michael Bay's Transformers was a popcorn flick and nothing more. There WERE people that set aside the plot-holes and the departures from the source material in order to actually enjoy the film when they went to go see it. I was one of them. I knew that the film wouldn't respect the source material and saw it multiple times on account of the fact that I thought the movie was very entertaining. It's a lot like the 1989 Batman flick done by Tim Burton. BOTH of these films were done to entertain the general public, NOT to appease to hardcore fans of the source material. That so many people went and saw it and expressed such disappointment when these SAME individuals went in predisposed to HATING the film speaks volumes of their character(s). What also agitates the shit out of me is that so many people who fancy themselves intellectuals INTENTIONALLY hate films like this because they consider it to be below them. Honestly people, grow up, stop being insecure dicks and get over yourselves. If you're predisposed to disliking a film then refrain from watching the damn movie from the outset. And subsequently avoid posting on talkbacks where all you do is BITCH about how you were predisposed to hating a movie in the first place.

I'm sorry, but every time I read about someone getting all sniffy that 'Michael Bay raped my childhood', I have to suppress a giggle. Let's be real here, shall we? The 'source material' we're talking about is a ropey 80's cartoon created solely to shift some toy robots that turn into vehicles. End of. It was a lazy, tired concept then and it is even more so now, so can we please stop referring to it as if it were some work of Renaissance art or something? Yes, you were six years old and those twisty, bendy robots were special to you, but fucking grow up, ok?

FFS!!! That is Prime's iconic line that the fans craved more than any other and they dont even show him saying it. That REALLY annoyed me! Fucking idiot!

It took a while, but I think my continuing to watch Michael Bay films at this point would like buying every album 50 Cent releases even though I find him crass and talentless and depressing. I did see the Transformers, but it didn't even manage to make me angry. Truth is, I can hardly remember a thing about that film except some vague blurry whizzing images of animated metal and a sense of empathic embarrassment on behalf of John Turturro.

Therefore, I say NO to Transformers II: The Transformening, and I encourage everyone else to do likewise. Also, listen up, Vern: You will not be changing my mind this time. I tried Transformers on DVD like you said and that is 99p I will never get back. It was not even funny in a retarded way! So, I have my resolve face on this time. Resolve face!

I loved the first movie. Don't really know whats wrong with me, but most of you have assured me that there must be a screw loose somewhere to have really enjoyed the first movie. I think its in good hands with Bay, and i can't wait for the next movie. Also... Bay told us that any news we heard of the movie before it actually comes out is a fabrication. He told us that we will go into TF2 not knowing anything. This is not real news.

and i love how the children come out in droves when they see anything transformers so they can complain about a movie theyve prob watched and drooled at 100+ times already. just so they can see their (supposedly) cool screen name over and over down a 100+ post.. bottom line is, the first movie was a roaring success, why ? because TRUE transformers fans went to see it and loved it.. the robots were a wonderful update to the cartoon and the movie did have a plot, and all the characters were great..perfect balance of everything that makes an awesome movie....u lame-o losers are upset cuz u wanted carbon copy transferred to the screen cartoon transformers and it would have looked rediculous....on the note of "giant robots need the US military's help" why not ? theyre indestructable ? besides , the miltary killed ONE decepticon, blackout...prime killed bonecrusher, bumblebee killd brawl w/help...the allspark killed megatron....starsream and sccorponok and barricade got away...and whats to say theyre dead...the news that the contructicons could be in the next movie makes sense...especially if they get bonecrushers spark and reformat him into a construction vehicle...and whats to say brawl....who they "accidently" subtitled "devestator" wont be one of the constructicons too....it would make sense why all these wierd named decepticons were all in the first movie and what their future purpose will be.....but given that michael bay has already said they hes intentionally going to be leaking information...ill wait for more info or confirmation....

The old TF had a certain magic to it, because the robots were real character we cared about. The ROBOTS were CHARACTERS we CARED ABOUT.
In Bayformers, the robots (even though he tried to make them look real ) looked totally unreal with all those exposed parts that never broke, a meteor form, and a scanning ability that never really showed that maybe just the exterior changed, or something. The robots sucked. They didnt look or act like people/characters, they were just around. Especially the Decepticons. They need to talk Bay! Prime was the only one that seemed to even have a brain, or an opinion. Most of the subplots were unneccessary, as well. Hackers?

The second one will suck even more, because, a la Pirates, there will just be more of the same, cause it "worked" the first time. If someone is going to license source material, they should fucking understand it before they change it. Licensing means you get to use the material to make a movie, its not a CYA so he cant get sued for making transforming robots, nor should it be a marketing tool.

and the reason I, and everyone else, says TF2 will suck, is because:

1. I knew the first one would suck too, and I was right.

2.Bay is involved

3. Its a sequel to a shit movie that made a lot of money. Whats the drive to improve here for Bay?

I would not be surprised if Devastator wasn't a gestalt.

Go to hell Michael Bay. Your films suck! I have no envy of you, the guilt of unearned rewards would drive me mad.
slkboxerman, the robots were a bad update. you can admit it. Look at the new megatron. LOOK at him. Look in his eyes. He is not a lethal mastermind warrior. Hes just a dumb animal. The movie had a plot? what was it? Find the cube? why? its powerful? it brings cell phones to life?. Enjoy TF2, it'll be right up your alley. Watch it, go home, and then forget about it...cause there wont be any memorable characters or scenes, just cliches and "go-boom"

believe it or not...

.. the movie did have a plot: A teenager discovers that his first car is the member of an alien race of transforming robots who have come to earth in search of an artifact. One side hopes can bring life back to their home planet, while the villains hope it can be used to replenish their armies using our own technology as recruits.

I live in the Imperial Valley,CA, a farming community surrounded by deserts. A couple of days ago my local newspaper ran an article that there were talks about filming some Transformers 2 scenes here in the Imperial Valley. The only scenes filmed around here are desert scenes. "Three Kings", "Stargate", "Jarhead" and many more have been filmed around the Imperial Valley. The thing that all of them have in common are desert scenes so I am assuming that there will be more desert scenes in the movie (Scorpinok is back maybe). Just taught I'd let you guys know. I like many, MANY people knew that this BAYFORMERS was gonna suck, and yes it did. But we also new that it was going to make a shit load of money as well, and yes it did that too. Hell, there have been many movies that sucked donkey balls and still made money. Did that take away the fact that those movies still suck ass? No. So what would be different about BAYFORMERS 2? People NOW know what to expect. Now that people have seen what Bay has done, there will clear be more people wary about seeing 2. And to add an interesting note; even those people that liked the first STILL had major problems with the character design, the camera angles AND the plot. Again I echo the sentiments of many fans. If your making a movie based on a very popular material; in this case The Transformers, then you HAVE to respect the source material. Second you DO owe the fans of that material some acknowledgement of the past yet modernizing it. Again the argument has been said that hardcore fans wanted the exact same versions of the cartoons Transformers. No one ever wanted the exact same versions of the cartoons to appear in the movie. NO ONE. Would it have been nice to see some kind of "cameos" of those Transformers? Sure it would have. Would it have worked? Hard to tell now. But Bay pretty much ignored the past and the source material, that was a slap in the face to all the fans that; if it wasn't for them keeping the Transformers alive in all its medias-toys, shows, comic books, etc, then Hollywood would not have gotten their sticky greedy hands on this property. Yes, the plot had more holes than Bay has brain cells. Yes, the character designs were just horrendous. And yes, the source material pretty much didn't exist. Bayformers is what it is. . .BAY'S version of the Transformers. I like the idea of seeing the Devastator, but now that Bay has use that name another dilemma arises. I really do hope that Bay has learn his lesson, because this time, its note going to be a guaranteed blockbuster, is going to be good or another pile of shit. Let the waiting begin.
