I noticed that difference and they seemed to shorten the scene where he is in front of a line of girls as a kid.

Why not show his brief change from boy to man while in shackles? It gets the point across of the length of time he endured brutality in this story. You're allowed to show people being slaughtered but not that shot? *sigh*

Looks good - can't wait to see it. Although it probably will go straight to DVD as these types of flicks aren't too popular with today's movie going public who doesn't really care about anything historical unless it features elements of magic and/or fantasy as in Conan or 10,000 BC. After all, how well did "Arthur" or "Legion" do at the box office? You can also tell that this wasn't produced by a Hollywood sttudio, but is an import because they used an all Asian cast instead of blonde, blue eyed, white boys like the last movie that came out about Genghis Khan's grandson about a year ago called "Nomad". The hero in the movie looked like some boy-band reject, or at least like Heath Ledger in the TV series 'Roar".

I liked both trailers because the difference between the two wasn't drastic. The film looks promising. While I appreciate the concern for pointing out the differences and the talkback opinions, I think that the criticism of films discussed is often not constructive or insightful. The art and commerce of film making is complex beyond belief, which is why truly remarkable films are so rare. Keep up the passionate discussion and enjoy the movies!

"Oh, we can't see a child in shackles!" Geez, I'd like them to try and get ROOTS into theaters these days with the namby-pamby MPAA.
But yeah, I agree, this was my favorite film of BNAT 9. And it's the first part of a TRILOGY?!? Sweet.

Not sure he needs to be likeable, as he certainly has fascinating down in spades. Anybody that is compiling a Baddest Motherfuckers in the History of the Planet list and doesn't have Ghengy in the top three is just fucking up.

Man I love these big historical epics too. No CG, justs hundreds of guys on horseback, awesome. It will be funny to see the who Conan retread of the origins, but it works with Genghis Khan. and yes I know I spelled it wrong above, but I was going for a phonetic spelling to get the scream right.

The obvious cuts are the scenes with the young Ghengis. What I'd like to know is if there is a strict "rule" book in what is in and whats out. It seems to me that violence and horror is not an issue with MPAA that can pass easily. Its insinuation of child abuse and insinuations of violence that seems to worry them more than showing actual violence! Its a strange priority but I dont have a problem with it because they are small things that go marginally unnoticed. They are only affecting the trailer. The violent scenes are untouched so I aint omplaining. Many people complain about the indy guns removed. I would've complained too, if the secene with the guns made me go "OH WOW, BRILLIANT, theyre pointing guns at INDY!". but I didnt have that reaction so I didnt give a shit whether the guns were there or not. I hate censorship, but in trailers, I'm not fussed and certainly not fussed with what MPAA seems to be cutting out.
So will the call him Temujin in this?

I'm wondering if this will be in English, or sub-titled like Apocalypto was. That didn't take away from the movie, and for some reason to us rounds eyes it sounds a lot tougher and angrier when some Asian spouts off in his native language than English.

Temujin / Subtitled = YES

They *do* call him Temujin and "Khan" is like "King," more title than name. It is subtitled and spoken -- I assume -- in something that at least to Western ears sounds native. This film is incredible; best thing I saw at SXSW. Epic, huge, sprawling. Incredible historical story (though I don't really know how accurate it is), incredible action/imagery, and surprisingly incredible love story. I expected a brutal, savage film (based on a possible distorted lack of knowledge on Genghis Khan), but the honor and moral character at the heart of the film is quite powerful as well. Rumor had it that this was supposed to be the first of a trilogy, but I doubt more will be made unless it does really well. (It stands alone quite nicely, though his later years as conquering badass are only briefly summarized. The bulk of the film is him from 9 through middle-age and becoming over-all Khan.) It was supposedly terribly over-budget, but an awful lot of that shows up on screen. Beautiful, and good call for BNAT. (Oh, and the MPAA sucks. Idiots.)
Ugh, stupid MPAA

The Indy thing really pissed me off as well...I watched the edited version of this yesterday and actually thought it wasnt entirely clear at first that it was him in the shackles - they should have stuck with the original clearer version. You see worse things on the news each day, this is absurd.

Testing a player or no, I'm sure the original trailer will be taken down soon. With as pissy as the MPAA is about many things, I know they get REAL pissy about trailers being online with a "green band approved" card running on a trailer that has, by AICN'S own statements, NOT been MPAA approved. And fix the frakkin aspect ratio, would ya? For a site that loves film, that's just gorram offensive to the senses to view.

Damn you, MPAA! Mongol: The Untold Story of Genghis Khan's Rise To Power, Fame, Glory, Infamy, Assistant Manager, Manager, Franchisee, CEO, and His Ultimate Demise to Shame, Exile, Poverty, Famine, Demotion, Graveyard Shift, Line Cook, Janitor, Telemarketer, Recluse, Unmarked Grave, etc.

The MPAA took out the scene where the young Genghis does the Truffle Shuffle. Why? Fat bellies are hilarious!
