DenZEL is getting too old for these parts. Though he was awesome in 'Man on fire'. My god that movie rocks. I admit this sounds like it could be a good movie. Maybe James Mangold could direct - after 3:10 to Yuma I'd be up for another movie from him.

William Fichtner for Vasili!
by Sledge Hammer

06:35:00 AM
Of course that's not gonna happen, despite Fichtner's talent, and Peter Stormare's just seen as too damn quirky, plus neither would be considered 'bankable' anyway, as the producers will want another "big star" to play opposite Denzel no doubt. Maybe they'll go after Viggo Mortensen to play his ruskie schtick again. Or maybe they'll try and pull Denzel's bud Russell Crowe in for another go around. And I'm sure that Gary Oldman and Tim Roth no doubt will be waiting in the wings as backup choices just in case none of the "hot" stars of the day signs on.
Sounds like it has potential...

To be a homoerotic version of The Spy Who Loved Me. Seriously, just work in a love story between the two secret agents and you've got Brokeback Bond.

Denzel, is one of the pioneers in shaky camera acting. Perfecting the slow cool badass walk in front of a camera that feels like its being held by someone with epilipse in the movie, Man on Fire. Now combined with the assumed notion of that we are going to get that Oscar caliber seizure camera work and editing that makes the Jason Boring films so adult action friendly. And what do you get? Pretty much the same crap Denzel has been pooping out since he became the first actor to win a best actor Oscar for a supporting role.

Don't know that Ludlum had the spies crumping and working undercover in a emo band in the book, so I fail to see how age is relevant unless Avril Lavigne is the love interest. Indeed, Brosnan actually got better and more believable as Bond to me as he aged into the role. Actually Viggo or Roth would be brilliant casting on the Russian end of it. Much like cowbell, you can really never have too much Tim Roth for my shekels.

Instead of hiring an Aussie or Brit with accent skills, how about an actual Russian actor. Denzel is the draw. Get a real Ruissian.

Why the hell aren't we getting paid to cast films??!!?? That actually works. Throw Brosnan in there sum where. It's a damn shame how part of the equation is always getting Name for these roles as opposed to a good actor.

Why did he f*ked Damon out of a movie...
by Freefinger

Did Damon have first dibs on this one because he did the Bourne series?!?!?

If they went with Damon, then everybody would be thinking this was a part 4 to Bourne, which is not. So...

Althought I'm not all crazy about Denzel's casting, 'cause he ain't that good of an actor if the Director is just "ok", he did some good flicks that I liked.

Man on fire; the whole flashback story; the Inside Job, those were good, but not GREAT!... So, this will be another good, but not great movie I think.

Ambler Identity

I read and enjoyed "the Bourne Identity". based on that I bought another Ludlum book,"The Ambler Warning". I was super disapointed to discover that it was about a super secret agent who had lost his memory and was on the run from his former employers. I've only read two of Ludlum's books but I can promise you, at least some of his other works are just lazy re-treads. Beware.
This would only be cool if Denzel was the Russian.

I read this book like 15-20 years ago and MAN is it violent! I believe it's all about a shadow government running things behind the scenes, but there is a LOT of killing throughout. Could be cool as hell, with the right team behind it.

And I believe Denzel's age should work, if I remember correctly the character was an aging spy, maybe angling for a way out, when the shit goes down. The book was nothing groundbreaking but it was action-packed and entertaining as hell.

Will he actually break down and have a wardrobe in this film that goes beyond a polo shirt and Dockers? Will he glower? Will he have a nostril flaring shoutfest? Will he stop midway through being "angry" with someone, only to break into a giant toothy smile? Same guy every fucking movie. Just like Pacino these days.

Hollywood decides to make another film where the bad guys are willing to die for their cause. Are they Islamic jihadis? Communist fanatics? Nationalistic patriots in love with their ethnicity? Nope -- they're corporate executives! So grateful for their big paycheck they're willing to blow themselves up for the corporate good. While the action in the Matarese books was exciting, the bad guys have to be the most illogical ones Ludlum ever came up with. But Hollywood will love them. The only change they'll make will be to add a few Cheney/Halliburton references. Because that's the type of clever updating we can expect from the mental giants of today's Hollywood.
