with Batman the animated series, THE Batman or Justice League/JLU, I take it. Based on the bad imitation of Timm doing Kirby drawing style.

You know what would be cool, would be if they could get the rights to do cross-opvers with other DC series, both past and present. You know, do guest shots from members of the Teen Titans, legion of Super-Heroes... Static, Batman Beyond... heck, if they're going for comedy even do crossovers with the Super-Friends versions of Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Legion of Doom, etc. Think Harvey Birdman, but based around Batman. I'd watch that.

It's got to have Wildcat and Aparo's style...

Outside of the bright color schemes and odd designs of the characters, I feel the real problem here is how blatantly out of timeline these characters are. Green Arrow has a golden age look, Batman kind of has the 1960's cartoon thing going on and Blue Beetle is the very current (and not nearly as cool as Ted Kord) version. Very odd pairings. Very odd. Like most things DC oriented I will give it a look see, but this doesn't appear to be a step in the right direction for DC Animation.

The whole point of this is so Mattel can sell a new line-up of hero action figures. (Kids prefer buying heroic figures, and not villains.) I understand this, but I wish WB Animation would put together an adult-oriented Batman series for another network, like Adult Swim. A "Batmanime" series could be cool.

Great idea but the animation looks like...has anyone seen those Fisher-Price DC Comics action figures? Why can't they just carry on the same animation/actors with new stories?

Obviously this toon is based on that line of pudgy ever-smiling Super Friends action figures for toddlers. Which means it's also obvious that the stuff on TV will continue to pander to tykes with ADD, while the DTV Timm flicks will cater to the more mature (and the more likely to have $20 in their pocket). Clever, WB. Evil, but clever.

There has almost been a Batman series on the airwaves since the late nineties. It needs a rest. Again the WB executives are ruining the character with overkill/exposure. It needs a rest. Why dont they get Paul Dini to do a killer take on Wonder Woman in an animated series? Or a Nightwing series set in the Bludhaven era? (going up against Blockbuster with cameos from characters like Black Lightning), done in a noir style? Batman needs a rest from the animation. WB are showing a laclk of imagination when they have so many potential money makers with the characters they have. Green Lantern trilogy is at least 5 series worth alone. WB needs to give me a job in its animation section!!!

Make a superhero cartoon aimed at children. Get the young kids into the comicbook stores. DC/Marvel needs new blood to keep the industry going. It is slowly dying with the 30-50+ crowd. Just a fact. When was the last time anyone saw a parent bring a small kid into the comicstore a buy a few books?

the industry is back again. Until you convince a mom to drive to a comicbook store and plunk down twenty bucks for a short stack of comics for her child, the industry is going to die a slow death. At least WB is producing a superhero program for kids. The typical comic shop does little to attract parents/children to its doors.
Oh my God! Not a show for kids!

Is it really such a terrible thing to have a superhero cartoon aimed at kids? After, what? Fifteen years of DC cartoons aimed at older viewers from Batman to Superman to Justice League is a nice run. Maybe this will aim more towards kids, but jeez guys. Every superhero story has to be made for 30 year olds? Stop being so stereotypically geeky, guys...

I am thinking this is probably in response to The Spectacular spider-Man cartoon, which is very kid oriented. I suspect Marvel also changed the main Spider-man comics to fit the new cartoon to boost the consumption of both products. So that means... OMG! Mephitso is behind the new Batman series! The art makes sense now. It was forged in hell to damn us all and crush the spirit with infernal suckitude. Since DC /WB has become so divided in their own house, they often don't let characters cross over to other mediums. Since a seriously deadly, insane Joker is in The Dark Knight, i wonder if they will exclude the character from this ridiculous looking version. You know, as a Joker fan I might be grateful if they left him out, if this art is any indication of what they will look like.
Besides...

Face it, most cartoons are viewed by kids.

I'm actually really enjoying The Spectacular Spider-Man even though it's geared towards the younger crowd (especially the animation style). However, it still gives us some enjoyable villains who are more than just superpowers and a suit. They have a background and a reason why they're breaking the law.

In fact The Batman could have learned a few lessons from Spectacular Spider-Man. Too often The Batman was just twenty-two minutes of fight scenes. It got really boring really quick.

The Teen Titans was an enjoyable superhero show aimed at kids, especially in its later seasons. It threw me off initially because I was used to the adult oriented Dini/Timm stuff, but once I realized who the target audience was, I got into it.

Let's bash it now, and bash it hard. That art is like the preschool version of those characters. No good show can come of that, no matter what the other components end up being like. It's a kiddie show, obviously. That's fine (for the kiddies) but why should we like it? Art like that = case closed.

The problem is not that they aren't aiming cartoons at 30 year olds. It's that they could make these shows accessible and enjoyable for all ages, not just kids or adults. They key is not to dumb it down for kids (trust me, they are smart and don't need that done.) Didn't we all like things as kids that weren't made especially for us? Of course we did. Kiddie shows are usually made by adults who don't understand children, for parents who want their kids protected from anything that isn't 100% sanitized and mind-numbingly safe. Nothing in the Batman TAS to JLU run was especially aimed at adults to the point that kids couldn't watch it and think it was cool too.

I mean what happened DC/WB? u killed starting with Batman/Superman TAS, then there was the phenominal Justice League unlimited and even The Batman was decent. But this kiddie crap design is no excuse. I can't bear to watch another ep of Spectacular Spiderman cause of the animation.same goes for clone wars and even the new transformers series has that watered down look.

And it's no wonder why i prefer anime over most american animation.

Well said. I'm pretty sure I'm the oldest geek here...I actually watched Johnny Quest on Saturday mornings last century. And every kid I knew said the same thing:

"This show would be perfect if they'd lose the stupid dog."

Now I have a 3.5 yr old daughter, and I'm forced to endure endless hours of "her channel". Thank heaven for a couple of shows that are actually tolerable. It's a good thing there are shows like Fairly Oddparents, too much Dora/Diego and I'd end up in a bell tower with an assault rifle. So it ain't like there's any kind of shortage of dumbed-down kiddie animation, it's the other way around.

And I'd really like to see that edgy, 1985 Crimson Chin that swears...to bad he was cancelled...

they can't mimic the look of the comic books into the animated series. Does anyone know why? The style is vastly different. Maybe it would take too long to make a 20 some minute cartoon version of the comic style artwork.
