.... and don't let the door hit you in the ass. They completely ruined the show and now they are jumping ship like the rats, they are! Hopefully the WB fired them behind-the-scenes and they are just trying to save face. Maybe this could be because of the Welling thing. Gough was the main reason the WB weren't able to cast him as Superman. Things might now change. And the petition asking the WB to cast Welling for Superman seems to be getting stronger. I can't see how their departure will change anything. In fact, the show seems to have gotten worse since they got less and less involved on the creative process. In fact, I'd say they've only been attached as producers for so long because of the money and since the ratings have gotten worse and worse, it means there's not much else they can get.

Flights AND Tights.

I think Clark Kent was a college graduate and around thirty when he put on the suit and moved to Metropolis (In the current comics continuity, not the Superboy version I grew up with). Get Welling in costume, give him the name and the powers and get on with it. Oh, and I guess they'd have to change the title of the show to Metropolis.

Not a regular Smallville viewer - I checked out the first 3 or 4, dropped out, caught a few more, enjoyed the Justice League episode. last year. but now that they don't have the Hawaiian girl playing redheaded Lana Lang any more, maybe if they turned it into a Superman show I might actually start watching.

Smallville's best season was Season two--it didn't feel like "Las Vegas" meets "Superman" every week like most of the seasons since then. Season five wasn't bad... but it had so much more potential. The "No flights, no tights" rule, while clever in the beginning, I think started to hamstring and limit stories. Clark seems more like a retard since he's like 21-22 show time and can't fly. Hell, he just got ice breath too.
I hope you guys are joking...

I loved the show from the beginning, but the last 2 seasons were at best mediocre. They held back the show to a standstill, and I agree that it's become a "Dawson's Creek" with powers. All it needs is a new version of the song "I don't want to wait" by Dido.

Too bad 'cause yes they're not GREAT actors, but they work fine for the series. The potential behind the series was incredible when it first came out, Young Clark getting his powers slowly and getting involved in some incidents. The problem is that they went ahead and made all the powers appear within the span of a season instead of making a new power appear every 5 or 6 shows, this way you'd be able to explore a little bit more the talent he just got instead of jumping from X-ray Vision, to Super-Hearing then Laser Eyes within the span of three weeks...

It would've made more sense this way of not making him fly already. All of his powers are not active, yet he can't fly yet... Not making sense, if we look at it, he should've been flying last season, and I mean "Conscious Clark".

I would expect the next season to try to get more involved with how Clark becomes Superman, not the costume but the saving the world part. He starts visiting other countries, helps out but remains very discreet so not to get too much attention from the media and stuff, like the Byrne Redux of the Superman title "Man of steel", which probably was the best series ever written for the character. Made him more human, more vulnerable, and explained some of his abilities instead of just saying "he does this and he does that.. Why? Don't know he just does it..".

I hope they can finally get moving to less paranoia and more story driven.

Anyhow, don't see the negative behind this story, unless they get Bryan Singer involved!! Now that would suck big time! (no pun intended)!

The finale of season 7 will be Clark FINALLY accepting this destiny of his, going to the Fortress to complete whatever is left of the training process, and season 8 he turns up after have been gone for a year (or two, or three) with powers intact and the renewed sense of purpose. Only problem is, unless they pull some kind of freakish "mind-wipe" everyone he has ever known is going to recognize him as Superman.

Mini-watchback episode 4.3...I think you are gonna like this
by rbrog77
Apr 3rd, 2008
07:45:50 AM
I think we were so fixated on the time thing in 4.3 that we missed a few things. Here are my thoughts on The Economist.

The golf course scene is still amazing, even when we know what’s about to happen.

So why did Naomi have Des and Penny’s pic with here? If we think about it, we know now she’s been on Widmore’s boat and that Ben has told Locke the freighties work for Widmore. We have heard from the captain Widmore planted the wreckage at the bottom of the ocean. So can’t we assume that Des wrecking was Widmore’s doing...not fate, but choice? And if that’s true, then doesn’t Libby have to be in on this somehow?

I know others have said all this, but logically speaking looking at these facts and assumptions, I think this is proof.

I love the beacon.

I don’t know if anyone mentioned this before, but the passports we could make out were from Japan, Brazil and New Zealand. If Ben has passports to these places, it would seem the expanded BTriangle would need more expansion.

“I lost a dollar, you know”. In one of the next few episodes Locke pulled a dollar out and gave it to Ben.

Continuity, anyone?

Sayid said to Locke, “Allow me to do things my way or a war is coming we will both be powerless to stop”. When we last left Danielle she was lying face down with a bullet in her. No one (as far as we know) from the freighter had left to fire the shots. We speculated that it may have been the others that fired the shots, but maybe...just maybe...the freighter had a shadow. Either way, the war has begun.

Bear with me on this one. Let’s say both Ben and Widmore know/see/understand the future...even if it’s only bits and pieces of it. If you could see the future and knew your enemy could too, wouldn’t you suspect...well, everything. So you send a boat knowing your enemy probably knows about the boat. Might you not tail the boat in another boat...or maybe a submarine?

Sayid in the quote above did not say getting on the freighter would stop the war from coming/starting, he only suggested to Locke that letting him have Charlotte would get him to the boat. And being on the boat and knowing things going on there COULD possibly stop the war...even after it had begun. And the way it will probably end...the war, that is...is Sayid will think with his heart instead of his gun.

So my summation of the last 3 paragraphs is the war has now started, but somehow Sayid will be able to end it. The ending will not be the best outcome for the island. And Sayid will indeed sell his soul and go to work for Ben to right the wrong his heart caused.

One more thing. Elsa’s boss doesn’t like technology. Neither does Jacob. Could Widmore be coming to free Jacob? And would that mean Jacob is bad for the island? That Ben’s been the good guy doing bad things all along?

Now that’s how to stir the pot!!

As always..."Screw the naysayers". Smallville rocks.

Everyone's a fucking critic. The show has been one of the best Scifi themed network show on for 8 years and counting. Not only that but is it easily the best Superhero show based off of an existing character. It'll be sad to see Miles and Gough move on after so many great years, but season 8 should still wrap things up nicely.

How are Lois and Lex NOT going to recognize him?

How are they not going to recognize him as Superman?

The only thing that is possible is if the "power" of Jor-El that is the Fortress sends out a massive mind-wipe to the people of earth. In the show's mythology, this is definitely possible, as the disembodied memory in computer storage of Jor-El seems to be all-powerful.

The biggest screw-up this show did was making Metropolis in Kansas and not on the eastern seaboard (I believe it's in Connecticut, north of New York City and Gotham City which is supposed to be in New Jersey).

To me, that's the worst thing they did. Metropolis is NOT a midwestern city. Star City and Central City were the midwestern fake DC cities. That always bothered me, to be honest.

I'm suprised how no one mentioned that Gough and Millar wrote Spider-Man 2. That was one of the best super-hero flicks in a long time. They also wrote the Smallville pilot, the episode with Christopher Reeve, and a season 3 episode where Clark and Lex have some dramatic flashbacks to their childhood. There were also some pretty terrible episodes but those guys cant be blamed for that. Whoever is the showrunner for season 8 sould definetly ammend the No Flight rule. Its freaking Superman and for 7 years the fans have been waiting for him to fly. Season 8 should end any remaining plot points and be about him leaving Smallville to go the Fortress of Solitude to begin his training. Also, one episode should be some sort of flashback to Krypton showing how Jor-El saved his son.

For the love of all that is decent in the world can we please get him flying finally and move on past Smallville. Hell, change the name of the show to Metropolis if you have to, but by this point it's borderline ridiculous.

This week, I have embarked on a "Service to America" tour visiting various places that have had great importance in my life. I have always considered service to our country the greatest duty and highest honor, and I continue to encourage others to answer the call, as I believe it is everyone's duty to serve a cause greater than one's self. Like so many American men and women today, I answered our nation's call to duty early in my life. From the time I entered the U.S. Naval Academy at the age of 17, through the years I spent in Vietnam, and during my tenure in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve our nation. I am convinced that every challenge I have confronted during my years of serving our country and its ideals has made me better able to lead and ready to serve as president from day one. I humbly ask you to join my campaign for President of the United States today so that I may be so fortunate as to serve our country a little while longer. I have had the honor to share my service to America with many great men and women. Most inspiring of all was President Ronald Reagan. Today, I am as sure as I was when I first entered public life as a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution that the principles of the Republican Party are always in the best interests of the American people, I've fought relentlessly in Washington for conservative change to cut taxes, put an end to wasteful spending, and strengthen our military. On issue after issue, never in recent memory has there been such a stark difference in the direction that opposing candidates want to lead America. I intend to win the war in Iraq and bring our troops home with honor in that victory. Senators Clinton and Obama want to surrender and withdraw our armed forces. When I'm your president, I will continue my fight to end wasteful spending and restore fiscal responsibility to Washington. My Democratic opponents will raise your taxes. In these challenging economic times, the last thing we need is a Democratic president raising our taxes as both Senators Clinton and Obama will do. When I'm your president, I will promote market-based solutions and consumer choice in order to provide families with affordable and quality health care. Senators Clinton and Obama will offer a big-government solution to health care coverage. As your Republican candidate for president, I have an enormous sense of responsibility and duty. That's why I am not in the habit of making promises to my country that I do not intend to keep. Therefore, I come to you offering leadership, experience, judgment and real solutions based on my commitment to the conservative agenda - for that is what separates me from my Democratic opponents. These are the qualities that I firmly believe have prepared me to guide our nation forward. But I cannot win this election alone - I need your help. I stand before you ready to continue my service to our great nation - and prepared to uphold the conservative values that millions of Americans hold dear. I hope you will join me in this fight by following this link to make a campaign contribution of any amount - up to the legal limit of $2,300. Thank you... John McCain ...P.S. I have never forgotten what it means to be an American. Even during the toughest of times, when I was a POW in Vietnam, what sustained me during those 5 ½ years of captivity was my faith in God, faith in my country, and faith in my fellow prisoners. And I'll never forget that day, 35 years ago, when I and many other very happy prisoners of war were returned to freedom. My friends, we are so fortunate to live in the greatest nation on earth. I am running for President of the United States because I believe in the greatness of this nation as a beacon of goodwill throughout the world. Please consider making a generous contribution to my presidential campaign of $50, $100, $500, $1,000, or $2,300 today. Thank you.

CLARK, GET OUT OF SMALLVILLE ALREADY!
by OtisSpofford

As a cranky TBer who has read Superman since the 60's and watched Smallville since its debut, I have to weigh in here. I think Welling has improved over 7 seasons, but I think the writers and directors have hamstrung his performances with a passion-less relationship with Lana - why is the only hot sex with Lana a flashback with Lex? It's more than the tired "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" fear (thanks, Larry Niven), because Supes should learn to control his powers - even in anger he pulls his punches, lest he reduce some malefactor's face to Beefaroni... And why is SUPERMAN, the first hero and inspiration to all others (except Batman) being coached by second-stringers like Oliver Queen, who initially was a bad Bruce Wayne as Robin Hood knockoff? Why is everyone giving Clark ideas for his career as Superman (cape, glasses, reporting, etc etc) - will there be NOTHING he creates on his own? He's supposed to be one of the smartest heroes in the DC Universe! And Millar and Gough really dropped the ball with Jor-el - many of us felt that the casting of Terence Stamp was a hint that Jor-el was actually Zod leading Clark astray, pitting him against family and friends... Why else have Jor-el act like a nice guy (the early 50's episode where Welling played Jor-el and met the Kents) but have him be a complete tool the rest of the time? That ain't Jor-el, my friends! And this hatred between Jor-el and Zor-el is just manufactured drama - even if it was in the current continuity of Supergirl comics... The writers should back off the hopeless, hapless BORING whining and bitching of the Dawson Creek relationships and bring in a "big bad" like they did each season in Buffy... Someone who would give a fledgling Superman a run for his money and show why he is the greatest hero of all - get Clark out of the barn and into the skies!

I know that Smallville has pimped itself out before to product placements ("Acuvue to the rescue!"), but that was seriously the WORST, most shameless product plugging I have seen since Short Circuit. I can't even remember the plot, I just had STRIDEGUMSTRIDEGUMSTRIDEGUM running through my head for an hour. Christ...

Clark seems to be the only person in a Superhero show who can't fly! This show got off the rails ages ago, they should have had him flying since season 4. Having dragged his feet through the last three seasons alongside some corny renditions of other DC heroes, the whole production has become overly incestuous and badly contrived. What this show needs right now is a final season without additional corny Superheroes, it needs a flying Clark, it needs a foundation of the Clark/Lois relationship and an end to the Lana Lang infatuation ASAP! It also needs for him to spend less time in Smallville and more time in other cities until he leaves for good at the end and leaves all that Lana bollocks behind him to embrace his true calling and the Lois Lane thing. END THIS!

And kept only all the good or better episodes, you'd have like 3 or 4 seasons worth of show. This series' problem (one of many) is that since it's an ongoing show and since the CW wants it to keep going, they need to have lots of filler and drag their feet to a conclusion. When they get back to the main plotline/mythology in episodes, they do well. When they go off on tangents and write filler episodes, it can get really bad. The problem is, the filler is like 80-90% of EVERY season. It's disappointing to me that there will be a season 8 cuz it will only get worse.
Oh, and...

changing the "canon" or the mythology or whatever doesn't bother me. It's the never reaching an end that does. The Green Arrow character keeps telling Clark he's gotta get off his ass and stop hiding in his one little town. And he's write. As someone said above, END THIS!

Entire episodes based on Stride. High profile cast leaving the show. Show runners leaving to be replaced by four of their underlings. I smell cash flow problems at the CW. If you add all of the departures up it probably cuts the show's cost by at least a third, if not half.

This is a show that basically run out of ideas after season 2. They went totally out of character on so many levels ( how many people has Clark killed now? ) that it is a mockery of the source material at this point. I watched a season 2 episode this weekend and read the first comic TPB this week. Then I lowered my head, rested it in my hands, and said what a sad turn of events. Fresh Breat -- AWESOME!!!

This show could have been great, but Gough and Millar were determined to ruin it from the get go. They should of hired the guy from Supernatural who was Jason during one of the seasons. Much better actor (which isn't saying much). Killing off Pa Kent was a terrible idea. The storyline with Ma Kent was retarded. Clark's actions have resulted in the deaths of about 100 people. Not to mention just about everyone knows his secret. Why the hell would he not tell Lana his secret 5 years ago?
Also, I read that Lex will be leaving the show

Since he and Lionel are the only two actors on Smallville, I'd say the show is fucked. And how come Chloe never gets naked? That'd be nice. And they should have a spinoff with the Flash. He was a lot more likeable character than most of the others on this schow.

The answer for this show's future is so obvious! Change the name to Metropolis and move the story forward. That way you can stop having to pretend that Lex doesn't know Clark has powers and let Clark finally start wearing glasses and bumbling around trying to hit on Lois. After a couple of years add the costume in and, whatever, hire some writers or read the old comics and steal. This show isn't perfect but I have really enjoyed, (not sure enjoyed is the right word, maybe been fascinated by), the ongoing emotional damage that is being done to Lana. It's like she's some coveted object that EVERYBODY lies to. If you think Clark is the point of this show, I think you've missed the most fascinating part. For the record though Chloe is the hottest chick on the show.

The only thing that's saved this show on many an occasion is the Clark and Chloe stuff, mainly because Allison Mack is gorgeous and I just have to stare at the screen no matter what (she's a great actress, shame she's not been in more films) the chemistry she has with Tom Welling always beats him and Kristen Kreuk, of course it helps that Chloe is a better character than the insane Lana, who really should have died seasons ago!!!

Smallville pisses me off more than any other show because it had a good premise, and has had occasional moments of greatness, but mostly it's been a retarded soap opera and product placement opprotunity. As long as the show is going on, why not try and make it, oh... entertaining? Kill Lana, Kill Lionel, drop the prophetic bs story line, send Lois off on some journalistic crusade for a couple of seasons, give Clark glasses and have him move to Metropolis and begin interning at the Daily Planet. Put some distance between Lex & Clark, follow each almost as seperate storylines for a season or so, let Lex gain power, let Clark start fighting crime & the occasional super villian. Just because the name of the show is Smallville doesn't mean it has to stay there.

Now, I will say that I enjoy the show way too much for all of its terrible flaws, but Smallville has given me one of the most fervent reactions I have ever had to a tv show. In Episode 100, when Clark chooses to save Lana over his dad, I absolutely lost it. I thought that the show had finally gotten rid of a huge problem, and instead it made the whole thing worse. I still tune in weekly, though, in hopes that someday Clark will finally reach his destiny.

1. Clark used to have some semblance of a wardrobe now it's red shirt blue jacket/blue shirt red jacket (how subtle) 2. In Seasons 1 through most of 4 Metropolis was a 3hr drive from Smallville, now it's 30 minutes (urban sprawl?) 3. Charecters would seemingly drive across town (or from Smallville to Metrolopis when it was still a 3hr drive) to have three minute conversations with one another and except for Clark (super speed) it really drove me nuts.

Lois Lanes a whore I know she hot but doesn't hooking up with every other superhero make her Sloppy seconds for superman. 3. does clark still go to school, have a job something what the hell does he do? 2. Would he hurry up and knock chloe off already damn stop the BS. 1. no body sees, feels or has video footage this fool running a supersonic speed.

Lex will never be the villian he's supposed to be if they keep on with the daddy issues. Sorry, he's gotta go, just like Pa Kent.

But I'd rather see Lana gone first. Really dead. No cameos. Dead. No ghosts. Dead. No clones. Dead. No twin sister. Dead. Clark is allowed 3 eps to moap about and grieve... then we move on and let him briefly hook up with Chloe and let the CW get their first FCC fines for graphic nudity. Yea I know she isn't an 'official' Superman ex, but show me one guy that wouldn't tell Supes to hit it.

Lana dead, really, forever, DEAD. No more.

But he's not going to die though, he's signed for season 8.

cancel the show completely, fire the entire cast. Smallville had its faults but quality-wise, when they were "on" were superior and succeeded in bringing about a fresh, new generation Superman more than Singer ever will with Superman Returns. Smallville is the Superman people knew the most in this generation. I suggest they should be bringing the whole crew and the actors to the big screen. You could say it's ten years later of the actual Smallville Universe.

Come on people, let us face facts. The show reached its zenith in Season 2- the episode "Rosetta", the introduction of Jor-El "The day is coming", hearing the Superman theme etc. Since then it has been entertaing, with flashes of greatness. Thank god this will be the last season. Kristen Kreuk will appear in a few episodes as she is starring in the new Streetfighter movie has the Lana character reached her arc two seasons ago. I just hope that the last few episodes really delivers: Lex killing Lionel- taking over Lexcorp and sitting atop of his skyscraper thinking how he will rule the world, Lana devastated she realises that her and Clark will never be together, Lois moving to Metropolis to work at The Daily Plant, and of course seeing the Superman suit at The Fortress, cue music, end credits.

Although I can't see how they could make Smallville any worse. This is a good thing and time to rejoice.
