OK, it's not dead yet. When Knight Rider fails, Deal or No Deal can move to 8 ET, and Life can move back to Wednesdays at 9 ET. This is of course based on the guys at NBC primetime making the right move, or GE firing the guys because they balk at making the right moves, and hire a competent person or persons to make the right moves.-----later-----m

If you are going to have another "dumb office" sitcom, at least change things up - In The Office, the chaos is normally self-inflicted by Michael/Dwight. I'd like to see a more normal set of main characters who have to deal with customers and corporate being complete assholes and putting them into comedy hijinx - maybe make it about sales reps for DM on the road across America?

It's gonna suck. I know NBC is going to be lazy and set it at Dunder-Mifflin Albany and it's going to be the exact same show. All I know is that they better not take Andy out of Scranton and put him in this other office as a "familiar face". As someone suggested, do a Todd Packer show, outside sales. That's the only thing I can think of that really works.

"The result is that NBC will deliver almost twice as much original entertainment in 2008-09 than it did 10 years ago." Somebody was paid to write this, multiple sets of eyes presumably reviewed it prior to publication, and yet they included a mistake that a kindergarten student wouldn't be likely to make in casual speech!

I just can't believe after seven seasons, this is how they mistreat the best sitcom of this decade. Do we really need another half hour of the Office? And Thursday Night Live? Are they kidding? It's painfully unfunny on Saturday. Is it going to be any better on Prime Time?

Despite what another poster said, the one bright spot could be Merlin. When I heard about this I thought it was going to be a BBC production. It looks like it is, but they're airing it on NBC. It's cast with mostly British stage actors and not Hollywood types. And only one thing I need to know. Giles is Uther! So it could be good. I'm also glad that they're keeping Medium, one of the few intelligent shows they have.

Its like The Office. But not in an Office.

They should just leave the title as 'The Office Spin-Off', at least it would be funny to have as how blatantly unimaginative it is.

Is your network show getting too expensive to run? Spin-off time. Bin the original, set it in a new city, pay the new chumps next to nothing, cash in on the name and shell out only for the odd cameo from the established lot. WINNNAR!

The ultimate sin? Taking a cool plot about one man and his car and making it BORING. I was BORRRREED through the pilot. It's like taking a space adventure story and shoving in taxatio...ahh forget it.

by daglesj

05:03:50 PM
Oh god that sends a shiver down my spine. The whole reason why the orginal Kath & Kim works is becuase of its mundane suburban view of Australian life and how they coax the humour out of that. How everything looks the same, the houses, cars, not to mention the dire dress sense. Why dont they just show the australian version? its one of the best shows around. I feel another 'Coupling' coming on.

An Office spinoff idea that would work
by PotSmokinAlien

They ought to set the spinoff at the production house of whatever documentarians have supposedly been 'filming' what we, the viewers, have been watching this whole time.

That would be the only organic way a spinoff of The Office would not be as lame as shitting in your pants.

Damn, where's a good appellate lawyer when you need one? Seriously, if there was a worthy take-away from the new shows last season, Journeyman was it for NBC, if for no other reason than Kevin McKidd is one of the most compelling actors I've seen in a LONG time. I hope he gets into a nifty new project, 'cause much as with Nathan Fillion, I just love to watch the man work.

Re: the rest of the shite, well, at least Medium got picked up again. Talk about the little show that could! Keeps getting dissed by the network, and yet it remains their freshest and most satisfying drama. In a better and more perfect world, it'd anchor a great night of SF/fantasy on NBC, with Heroes before it and Journeyman after. One day I hope to visit that alternate universe...and stay there for the rest of my life!

was your winner this year. Weak season of Heroes (which I watched anyway with fanboy glee), flop after flop, boring Bionic Woman. And a quality show called Journeyman with SO much promise and the most improvement of any show this year throughout the short season it had. I just hope there's some hope left that another network can pick it up.

From what I can tell from this thread, (I'm a newbie to this site)you are as sick and tired of the utter drivel that we are being given to watch these days. Reality shows, game shows, remakes from old shows (oh sorry Hollywood, I guess that's called "re-imagining"), "re-imagining" of shows from the UK (perhaps their writers DO have the occasional "NEW" idea), shows that have the potential to become a joke (read Robin Hood Men in Tights)depending on how they approach Merlin, and now they create "The Office Spinoff"! Good God my friends, what's next, The Office - Special Victims Unit or The Office - New York... Nah, I've got it, The Office - Arizona (that way they could get back to the roots of the show by filming on the London Bridge! I believe I hear the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, Damn! that's just the soundeffects from a re-imagining of "My friend Flicka" (set in the 22nd century where Flicka, Trigger and Lassie have been cloned to create horses that work in an office setting... The Office - Just Horsin' Around.

"NBC has established itself as the place to go for the hottest, highest quality programs on television,..." - Yeah, like 15 years ago - "...and now we're ready to take it to the next level," said Ben Silverman" - The next level? What level is that? Seeing as where NBC is these days, pretty much any movement would have to be upward. Is there a level below where they are now?

" "Knight Rider" goes to series, building on the success of last February's "Knight Rider" movie, the highest-rated movie telecast on any network in three years in adults 18-49" - But how many adults 18-49 watched out of curiosity? How many will tune in every week? I guess we get to see.

" "The Philanthropist," a drama concerning a renegade billionaire who uses his wealth to help people." - Sounds like The Millionaire. Another remake? "Instead of spending $25,000 a plate at a fundraiser, he's dodging bullets in third-world countries to hand-deliver vaccine" - Um, he's a billionaire, can't he pay someone to do that for him? Really, wouldn't everyone be better served if he delegated rather than doing it all himself. And who does it help when he dies delivering vaccine and his fortune then goes to his evil cousin (you know there will be one) whose idea of philanthropy is paying for strippers to get breast implants?

" "Law & Order" returns to Wednesdays for the series unparalleled 19th season..." - Correct me if I am wrong, but The Simpsons are now in their 19th season and, when L&O hits 19, will be in their 20th season. Or maybe I just don't know what "unparalleled" means.

"Tidwell is a seen-it-all New York cop whose weaknesses include the track and the ladies. He isn't going to fit in Los Angeles, and he could care less." - They don't have tracks or ladies in LA?

"Edward Albright is an operative who speaks 13 languages, runs a four-minute mile, and is trained to kill with his teeth." - Seems like a kind of extreme way to kill someone. And unless he can throw his teeth across the room he'd have to be very close to the person to kill them. Maybe someone should have taught him to kill with a gun. You know, it's kind of hard to discretely kill someone when he has to bite them, especially in a crowd, and then try and walk away with blood all over his face.

"...they were ambitious young men looking for adventure, hoping to live up to their family's expectations, discovering love and finding their own true destiny, making mistakes along the way." - Oh, I get it - Camelot 90210.

I am in no way expressing the rabid and ludicrous sentiments of a Browncoat or any Buffyverse groupie. I am not tattooing Kevin McKidd's face on my arse or anything.

Hell, I'm not even going to send Journeyman-related food items in to NBC in the hopes that there will be a stay of execution. It just sucks because Journeyman was a high-quality show in the midst of a lot of stinkers. And it got canned while Knight Rider passes GO and collects $200. It just stinks.

And no, I don't want a Journeyman movie. I was and am hoping for another network to recognize its value and pick it up soon. Even NBC's own sister network Sci Fi channel would be an adequate place for it to air.

There are funny bits to the show (particularly anything NOT involving Zach Braff), but to call it the funniest thing in decades is just...mindboggling. Hell, Two and a Half Men has more consistent humor.

Sorry to see Journeyman go, but not surprised. Life will follow shortly now that it's in the Death Slot.

Most of the new stuff sounds just awful. Poor Christian Slater...clearly he WANTS to get back, but this ain't gonna do it.

Bit surprised we don't have a new Law and Order show on the list. Isn't it about that time where they roll out yet another one?

until the old ones are gone. The recent attempts to create shows in the L&O universe did not do so well. I think the courtroom one with Jerry Orbach lasted for only a few episodes. Same for Conviction. But maybe that one was due to the Eric Balfour Jinx.

I am a Whovian of old, and I do like the relaunch quite a bit...especially when the scripts are penned by the likes of Steven Moffat or Paul Cornell and not Russell T. Davies. I take issue with the fact that the new series has not been shot on HD like it should have for a show premiering in 2005, as well as comments/excuses made by Davies about how it is essentially inappropriate to shoot the series in HD. Everyone in the UK seems to praise the guy, but I think he's holding the franchise back...especially with his insistence with writing too many damn episodes himself. He's suffering the Joss Whedon Syndrome of trying to do too damn much and eventually it will cause him to collapse upon himself like a cosmic singularity. If he stays much longer, people will begin to view him much like a prior showrunner who stayed too damn long...that being Mr. Hawai'ian Shirt himself, John Nathan-Turner. At least Turner wanted to conquer the American scifi audience, but was held back by proper funding.
excuse me...

Thinking about it, they were always going to do a Knight Rider series - they went to all that trouble making the remote control car - there was no way that was gonna be just for a "maybe" pilot, "back-door" or otherwise...

Also the new guy in Life - I think the guy that wrote the copy for that meant "COULDN'T care less" - it's a fairly common mistake, although just a little bit unforgivable if writing is, like, your JOB man!

Templar sounds kinda cool - is it based on a book? I remember someone telling me about a series of books (fiction) that were all about the crusades never actually ending and there being a group still actively engaged in looking for the Holy Grail in the modern world - sort of the "section 13" of the Vatican, so to speak...

Could that be what this is based around?

are the best and I would love it if he got to executive produce this series, I'd also like another Jekyll, he left some seeds that could be made into a follow up mini or a regular series. But I do have to give credit to Davies for brining Who back in the first place and for making an awesome 3rd seaon finale. Also like his and Chibnall's work on the second season of Torchwood Looking forward to the fourth season of Who, at it's worst it's still a hell of a lot better than almost anything in the US that's not Battlestar or Lost. Didn'y know about Davies history with the HD issue, thanks for the info. I would love to see Who made for HD.

That's another point of contention for me regarding Russell T. Everyone seems to think he's a genius for having brought back the show, but in truth, the heavy lifting for bringing the show back was done back in 1996 and by a man named Philip Segal. But I definitely agree with you about Chibnall and the second season of *Torchwood*. The first season was just as much of a train wreck as any first season *Star Trek* show, not counting *TOS*.
