The whole reason behind Marvel's ULTIMATE series is to erase the amazingly stupid storylines that Stan Lee drummed up in his moderately talented head.
Stan Lee needs to stick to cameos.

No, Mr. Sinister. Stan Lee WAS a genius. Nowadays, he's just a doddering embarrasment that should be kept away - far, far away - from any project requiring creative input. Trot him out for conventions. Do the odd signing. Let him go on and on about the glory days. But any "creative" works that you actually hope someday for people to pay good money to consume - yeah, no. Not from Stan.
Why You Guys Trashing Lee?
by lonestaricon
Apr 2nd, 2008
09:34:57 AM
Stan Lee was instrumental in creating some of the best and most original characters in the comic book history. He is one of the founding fathers of the Marvel universe and a living legend. While everyone has experienced failures, few experience his kind of success and fewer still are able to stay in the game and keep swinging for the fences. The lack of respect you expressed for Lee shows an incredible lack of appreciation for his contributions and reflects poorly upon those commentators.

Seriously, the last story he wrote for Marvel recently was borderline unreadable, his original stuff is crap at best, and there's a lot of stories around there about how he just took other creators ideas and used them for his own. Just keep him for those cameos and leave the rest of us alone. We don't need any more 'Sky High'.

Pair Stan Lee Up With Other Creators
by ChildOfMen
Apr 2nd, 2008
11:11:02 PM
I'm not going to pile on like some people, but I think it is clear that some of Stan Lee's best work has clearly been in partnership with folks like Ditko and Kirby. I don't think there's any shame in that, but clearly it would help to have Lee collaborate with other creators again (or who knows, maybe these things like Stripperella and the 7th Portal have been collaborations and aren't solely from the mind of Stan Lee). Either way, do something different,....

No, not old ones from the '40s. "The Last Fantastic Four Story" and "The Lost Fantastic Four Story". Both reunited The Man with his - and The King's - greatest creation.

Sadly, Stan has not had a great track record since stepping down as Marvel Editor In Chief. That DC "What if Stan Lee Created" stuff, Stripperella, "Who Wants To Be A Super-Hero?". Props for creating She-Hulk, but let's not talk about Night-Cat and Solarman.

At one time I thought he was the greatest writer on Earth, but I was 13 years old at the time. Since we learned that "Marvel Style" meant the artists plotted and paced the stories and he filled the word balloons on the finished art. Still, to oversee and script FF, Spider-man, Thor, Iron Man, Sub-Mariner, Captain-America, Daredevli, X-Men and The Avengers at the same time and get them all out on schedule... WITH a friendly letters page and the Bullpen Bulletins page in each issue, yeah, I'm still impressed. You create something like that and then criticize him for getting old.

Fuck anyone who takes a personal shit on Stan...

He may not have done as much as claims to have, but he still clearly achieved more in just a few years than everyone on this TB ever has put together, in their entire lives - otherwise we wouldn't be on this site right now, and would be getting on with creating our own culture difining icons. Although all the POW stuff does suck ass, admittedly.

We're simply point out, quite fairly, that he's over hyped and over rated. The ULTIMATES line was created because his stories, INCLUDING MANY ORIGIN STORIES, were just silly at best, and laughable at worst. He's famous now because he stumbled upon an industry whose icons were Sad Sack and Little Dot.

Just starts getting bored with pretending to do something in his movies (guy not paying attention crossing the street, guy mowing yard) and either just pops up and says "HEY I AM STAN LEE AND YOUR NOT! ENJOY MY CREATION!" or just starts doing shit that has nothing at all to do with the scene, like just eating a dead body or punching some kid in the face. I mean why not, he is getting paid either way and the movie will make money no matter what he does. Still can't believe Steven King didn't appear in the Mist. I think King and Lee should work on something together and also make cameos in each others movies for the hell of it.

who contributed so much to Marvel (it was his idea for iconic characters like Silver surfer,Black Panther and even..*gasps* Spiderman) Lee took most of the credit and Kirby..well we all know the story.

Lee had some good stories during Marvel's Golden age and that's it.
