So this is the new Halloween movie, right? Looks about as good! This thing looks hideous. Give me Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express anyday over this horror show. All Myers comedy is say something lame and unfunny and then repeat it and explain the joke, then repeat again. The man stopped being funny years ago. First poster is right this looks like Murphy's Holy Man and probably about as funny!

Mike Myers as a foreign guy who talks weird, someone has a f'ed up face and he can't stop mentioning it with clever word play, overacting cameos, little guy acting funny, you see one film you see them all. I really liked the first Austin Powers and think its the best out of the three cause it's original. Now i don't even thing he is trying.

The Thing to Remember About AP

Remember that the original Austin Powers was box offic poison.

The only thing that gave the movie legs was the drop in VHS tape prices.

I loved the first and second AP, but was way ober it by the time the train wreck with Beyonce came out.

At least with AP he was mocking a genre that spoke to a lot of people. Even if you hate James Bond, you at least know who he is.

The whole hari krishna (sic) thing was relevant back in the 60's and even then it was still counter culture.

You can't mock something if people are unfamiliar with the source material Mike.

Ruined his career by reusing the same bad impression, voice or character over and over until it annoyed us and we associate the actor with lameness. Im sure that its funny to them and their friends but we find it agitating. Now it becomes very hard to earn our trust in their comedic skills, there is just too much working against them.

Anytime the spotlight is put on him, he goes into his Bush senior impression and says, "Not gonna do it", and expects people to laugh. Its like watching one of Robin Williams ADD tangential rants where he desperately fishes for a laugh, but its like sitting next to one of the mentally disturbed people on the subway. As for your post, and a post I've heard ad nauseum, anytime anyone criticizes a movie or actor, and someone rushes to their defense claiming they've accomplished more than we (talkbackers) have - putting out crappy movies to become famous is not an accomplishment. Its an embarassment for which they were paid millions of dollars. My criticism is free - its a public service.

I live in Toronto, and work in the film industry up here. The Love Guru was filmed up here. The scuttlebutt I heard about Myers was that he is a spoiled rotten neurotic prim donna. Myers would have temper tantrums where he refused to come out of his trailer for hours. Also, they had a policy on that show of wrist bands: certain colors gave you certain levels of access to Myers, ie to be able to talk to him, to be only allowed to be within 10 feet of him. No one was allowed to look at him in the eye if they didn't have a certain color wrist band on. I was very disappointed when I heard this. He's Canadian for crissake! He's supposed to be a nice guy, not an asshole crybaby movie star! And I loved Austen Powers. So crushed.

His single "Choppin' brocoli" bit is still classic post 70's SNL to me. Movie-wise, the guy is totally out of his element...didn't even like the Wayne's world movies (altho I still think Laura Flynn Boyle was hotter than Tia Carrera back then). Myers has sucked for a long time. Austin Powers isn't my type of comedy so even though it wasn't funny to me, I get that it's hilarious to many others. I also absolutely and pathologically HATE Shrek and anything else that jams pop-culture reference up our asses non-fucking-stop. Plus, I used to have nothing but fond comedy memories of Eddie Murphy...now I just see that fucking donkey and want to commit assicide nonstop.

As far as midgets....well...I do like cats better but midgets do have opposable thumbs...cats can't pick up a god damn thing with their paws! But yes midgets are pretty much funny by default. Sucks really if you're a midget. Try to be serious n shit and all people do is think you're a clown or something. I'd be punching people in the nuts nonstop if I was a midget. Oh yeah...Walken is simply the greatest SNL guest of all time from now on and forever. The man is PURE GENIUS on SNL and should hold the SNL Hall of Fame all on his own. I know a bunch of people who worked on The Love Guru when it shot here in Toronto. By all accounts Mike Myers is an asshole and a loon. Supposedly there was a colored braclet system for the crew on set, and depending what color braclet you wore gave you different levels of interactivity with Mike. Some people were allowed to talk with him, others were not. Some could not even make eye contact with him. There were stories of him freaking out and refusing to leave his trailer. Now... to be fair I don't know Mr. Myer's personally but I did have the opportunity to meet him one night while my brother's band was playing a gig at The Horseshoe Tavern (awesome venue!) in Toronto. I AM a fan.. I DID approach him and he was nothing but friendly and gracious - allowing us a few minutes of his time for photos and autographs. He was a gentleman and very down to earth. So I'm having a hard time believing these 'rumours' of wristbands and tantrums. From someone who was so genuinely kind to some fans it doesn't seem like him. And as for the Love Guru? I can't wait! Sure there's some of the same style of comedy that he's famous for but that's his schtick... and that's why I love him. Good luck, Mike! The world needs more laughs! Not more cynicism!

Caught it out here in LA, and I hope it's an early cut. I loved "So I married an axe murderer." It was brilliant. I was not a fan of Austin Powers until the third time I watched it, and to be honest, while Wayne's World 1 was brilliant, I liked Dana Carvey in it the most. Hated Wayne's World 2. That being said... I really hope this is a first cut. Yes a lot of the jokes are recycled. I'd say a good 80% are. And he does play this role a little too close to Austin Powers with a different accent. There are one or two brilliant moments in it. But you'd think after so long away from his last "original" movie, he'd have some better ideas. Not the case at all. If you remember towards the end of his run on SNL, a lot of his ideas started to get stale, the original skits seemed to be less and less, and not as good, and it was more about Deeter, Wayne's World, Everything Scottish, and Coffee Talk (which I never laughed at.) Well, it seems like Mike Myers has finally run out of ideas. Plus, and I think this really needs to be said, he's not a good actor. It's actually awkward when he's on screen at times. How can you make movies when you are getting out acted by Jessica Alba and Justin Timberlake? Oh, a quick aside, I'm not a JT fan, but he makes the most of his moments, and really steals the movie from Myers. Verne Troyer is also good in the moments he's allowed to have, but it's obvious that Mike Myers toned down his part so he wouldn't steal it away again like he did in the AP flicks. But isn't that always the case. He hams it up for the camera, and since he plays all the roles, he seems to fit in. When he's alone with someone else, like Michael Caine, he is really outclassed. Even in a good Mike Myers movie, like So I married an axe murderer, Nancy Travis seems believeable, while Myers sticks out in every scene he's in. Go back and watch it, trust me. Alright, about "The Love Guru." The review is dead on accurate of the story, although with a few minor plot moments not mentioned. If anything it's sub par, but still pretty close to just being average as a film. There is nothing outstanding about "the Love Guru." And yes, if you've seen "The Guru" staring Heather Graham, or the Eddie Murphy movie Holy Man, or even the guru scenes from "The Ruttles" you've probably seen the majority of this movie. Best advice, wait until it comes to Blockbuster, or at least to the second-run theater.

And WTF man? His movies are really quite crappy. So when he and Roach, tested and fine tuned Austin Powers 3 that was the fruit of major labour? Are you kidding me? No. This will suck. It will maaaybe have a good opening weekend but then tank. Sorry but there is no relevance to his humour anymore. And no fine tuning will fix it.

The sequel just recycles the first film (but adds Mini-me and Fat Bastard). The third film gets points for trying something different, but both sequels fail miserably compared to the first picture.

Eddie Murphy vs. Mike Myers movie? In which they are the only two actors in the whole film. Thats it, just them in fat suits, sterotypes, women, people of different color and as Donkey and Shrek! Come on make it happen!

But his best work seems to be behind him. WAYNES WORLD is funny as hell and definitely holds up well. SO I MARRIED AN AXE MURDERER is hilarious and I'm glad to see so many here agree. And AUSTIN POWERS: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF MYSTERY is brilliant. The problem with the sequels is that they have no story. The original is about a spy who is cryogenically frozen in the 60's and thawed in the 90's to stop his nemesis from taking over the world. THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME and GOLDMEMBER are merely SNL skits strung together for two hours. Both have very funny moments but they aren't good movies. He hit creative bottom with THE CAT IN THE HAT which is possibly the worst movie I have ever seen in a theater. What a total miscalculation by Myers. And having a production designer direct instead of a real storyteller was a giant mistake. Obviously.

THE LOVE GURU trailer made me laugh but the entire time I was thinking that every joke was lifted directly from the AUSTIN POWERS series.
