What with products from the fake ads featuring in the films, and some of the actors crossing over - that's what made it fun to watch in the theater, I think.

The man is overrated and his films are absolute rubbish. So of course, we’re going to promote him the heavens on Ain’t It Cool News. If this is the future of Hollywood, I don’t want any part of it.

and it was fucking horrible. Has Harry and the gang ever steared you wrong? Yes, of course they have, and asking you to waste 15 hours of your life to watch this slow-moving, retarded, self-indulgent mess of a turd is another one of those things AICN does to ruin your life. If you really think you want to watch it from start to finish, you'd better DVR it because it is highly unlikely you'll stay awake through the non-stop pointless dialog of Death Proof.

God I love that woman.

And yes, the dialog in Death Proof was meandering and pointless but it wasn't a deal breaker. Overall it was a damn fine movie going experience and I'm glad I got to see the whole thing in the theater. Don't have Starz though.

....Death Proof was a lot better when u watch the extended version (and not cuz of the lapdance) and it made the movie make more sense...Planet Terror didnt seem that different...

Is that it makes a long, boring, shitty movie even longer and shittier (although the lap dance is good on its own).

...then you're in deep trouble from the get-go. I seem to recall TV ads and/or behind-the-scenes specials where Rodriguez and Tarantino went on and on explaining the definition of "grindhouse" and why we should care. That was as bad as tacking on the definition of "mod" at the beginning of the MOD SQUAD remake.

The point: The grindhouse fad came and went in the '70s. The end. No one gave a shit anymore last year when the Tarantino/Rodriguez geek-fetishization known as GRINDHOUSE was released. Which was kind of too bad, 'cause "Death Proof" was decent. But not great.

in terms of the theatrical version, I saw it in a 2nd run theater. A little before the show started a cute old (OLD!) couple sat in a row near me. I thought "Wow, do they know what they're in for?" They made it through the trailers... and about 10 minutes into Planet Terror before running (read: slowly walking) out of the theater. I still feel bad that I didn't warn them.

Planet Terror was poorly put together, a shitty homage to movies that nobody missed, and had been done far far better. A five minute action scene at the end does not make up for horrid dialouge, acting, plot, and pretty much everything involved with it. I made it about fifteen minutes into Death Proof before realizing that I could not care less about any of these characters. You know why they don't make movies like this anymore? Because they sucked when they came out, and we've moved on.

And regarding Death Proof:

Obviously this new set won't mean anything to anyone who thinks either (or both) of the films sucked. My feelings: Planet Terror was much more fun; Death Proof had two VERY cool moments that added up to maybe twenty minutes of screen time. The remaining hour-plus was sprinkled with (mostly) hot girls that COULD have been interesting but got boring quickly, as they really overdid QT's penchant for repeating the same line of dialogue at least twice ("Now did you or did you not say that?...Nononono! Answer the question motherfucker! Did you or did you not say that?") On top of that, it featured an actor we all love cast as a character we're supposed to hate, which severely weakens the pinball-machine-style beatdown at the end: instead of feeling catharsis and rooting for the ladie--all of whom, by this point, we're sick of--we pretty much feel bad for Stuntman Mike; and I doubt this was Tarantino's intent. Having said all that, I'm still getting the set, mainly because this is the way it's SUPPOSED to be seen. Putting either of these films in HD makes as much sense as colorizing Casablanca.

before they were made, during production, when they were released and after they did lackluster box office, the Cartoon Channel showed that Aqua Team Hungerford movie tonight. Since I had some free time and it was free and in my living room, I watched it. I was not amused. I find it hard to believe that thing showed in theaters without audiences rioting and demanding their money back.

Death Proof bored me to tears with hot girls who were pretty unlikeable because of their annoying dialogue.

Planet Terror = badass zombie movie with plenty of WTF moments and superhot Rose McGowan. The fake trailers were probably the best part though. THIS TIME THEY FUCKED WITH THE WRONG MEXICAN.

"Werewolf Women of the S.S." has Udo Kier, who did 2 low budget films in Rome back to back around 1973, "Flesh for Frankenstein" and "Blood for Dracula." They ran Saturday night on The Movie Channel. Two grindhouse/drive-in staples. Eli Roth's was a little too obvious. Referenced "Halloween", "Silent Night Deadly Night", "My Bloody Valentine", "Texas Chainsaw Massecre", and even "Rocky Horror."

The marketing was all wrong. They spent millions on TV ads, cut-ins on the Sci-Fi Channel, but nothing on internet banners. "300" was all over the internet. Those of us over 30 remember bad movies at drive-ins, grindhouses, videotape, and on HBO and Cinemax back in the early 1980's. How many males 14 to 28 understood the meaning of the title?----later-----m

but I fucking LOVED that movie experience. The whole crowd was so into in when I saw it in the theatre, and just about everyone got what Rodriguez and Tarantino were doing. I loved both flicks and the trailers, and the old-school r ratings... great stuff. Does anyone know if there are plans to release in in North America in original form? I'm dying to have it, but refuse to pay for the split up, reels included versions. I'm a purist.
