Joss LOVES Battlestar Galactica...
by expert40
Mar 26th, 2008
10:22:47 PM
... in fact, he's come out as saying it's the best show ever made. Including his own frakking awesome entries into the television lexicon.

I wouldn't be surprised to see if he could steal Katee Sackhoff and or Grace Park as soon as Galactica wraps, because you know how Joss LOVES to be dominated by strong women (at least, I assume he does as it comes out in his writing... methinks Joss had a domineering mama).

Seriously, now that Galactica is wrapping, you could literally write shows for some of the actors on the show to lead. I'm thinking Eddie and Mary could lead a show like Sally Fields leads now, where they are the patriarch / matriarch of a family. I could also see Eddie adding his considerable gravitas to an existing show like Law & Order (any of them).

In fact, I think David Eick totally frakked up by NOT casting Katee as the new Bionic Woman. I'm sorry, but the other chick just didn't cut it. She couldn't hold her own against Katee when they were on the screen together. And I'm sure David is kicking his own ass for this, over and over and over again.

For some reason I'm not getting as excited for this as I think I should be. I'm a huge Whedon fan. Angel is my favorite show of all-time, and Buffy is damn near close.
You really think CBS would pull the plug faster than Fox?
by TVguy4566
Mar 26th, 2008
11:03:47 PM
Are you joking? I hear Fox has already written the press release to cancel the show. No network pulls the plug faster than Fox. I think they cancelled Drive before the pilot finished airing. You know that is exactly what happened with the Return of Jezebel James. Firefly was dumped quickly.

Sorry, but I give the show a far better shot at surviving on any other network than Fox. CBS would stick with this show just because it is a Joss Whedon project. Fox doesn't give a crap who's name is attached to it. If it doesn't get ratings quickly, it will be gone in 2-3 episodes.

I do have high hopes for this show, but lowered expectations of it survival just because it is on Fox.

I think it's good that Fox only ordered 7 episode, it will force Joss to move the story forward more quickly. Firefly gelled faster than any of his shows. It took Buffy until about halfway into season 2 to find its legs and Angel doesn't really work all that well until the kill off Doyle and bring in Wesley.
Economics of 7 episodes?
by snowpuff
Mar 26th, 2008
11:27:54 PM
I can't even figure out Fox. What's the economics of ordering a new show with 7 eps?

Fox is just WEIRD. They are certainly willing order a lot of different types of shows. You sort of could give them credit for that... except they stick with almost none of them... which makes you wonder... why they order them?
Joss should STOP putting shows out for FOX...
by expert40
Mar 26th, 2008
11:28:07 PM
... they've already proven that they aren't to be trusted.

He should put out his show on The CW, which has generally treated his shows well (if you count the fact that they were once The WB and UPN)

FOX is the worst at pimping genre shows and the worst at letting a show gain an audience. Sometimes, it takes more than even a full season to find an audience. FOX puts a show in the death slot on Friday and if it doesn't have the numbers by the third show, they kank it. It's frustrating.

... it's TRUE. Funny about the Browncoats, but it's true about Joss being gay for BSG

Check it out on scifi.com. Look in the BSG section at the video entitled, "Phenomenon." It's cool how BSG can touch such disparate people as good 'ole boy Brad Paisley and his wife, the forever hot Kimberly Williams (Father of the Bride), the lead singer from Anthrax, Joss, S. Epatha Merkleson from L&O, and of course, Seth Greene.

BSG and it's themes cross all boundaries of race, creed, and gender. It truly is the greatest drama in the history of television. It's better than Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, Rescue Me, DS9, and yes, Buffy, Angel, and Firefly.

Ron Moore is a frakking genius!

Indeed. And I believe Sci-Fi will be broadcasting those half-hour specials starting this Friday. (The "Phenomenon" one was a lot of fun.) It looks like they will also be running all-day marathons of the show (Seasons 1-3) throughout next week in preparation for the Season 4 premier. It's about frakkin' time...

I bet Helo dies this season.
What I think happens...
by expert40
Mar 27th, 2008
01:42:03 AM
... I'm pretty sure that the first death (in ep. 3) that they've talked about will be Cally. It makes sense, as she has an irrational hated of Cylons, and she is married to one of the legendary Final Five and is mother to a human-Cylon hybrid.

I think Baltar dies eventually, but at the end of the series, along with Laura.

I think that the second big death, the one that either happens in ep. 10 or in the second part of season 4 (or will that be considered season 5?) will either be Apollo or Lee. I put it at 2-1 odds that it will be those two.

Also, remember the picture they put out? The one with the two 6's... the Last Supper picture? The picture where Ron said that no one in the picture is the Last Cylon? Guess who's missing who SHOULD be there?

Gaeta and Dualla. So, 2-1 odds that the Last Cylon is either of those two, although it could be someone random like Hotdog or Racetrack.

The only thing I don't even want to guess about is how the Lords of Kobol and the Cylon God fit into everything and if they're going to reach Earth in our past, present, or future. I really want to be surprised.

Tom Zarek could be Last Cylon...
by expert40
Mar 27th, 2008
03:21:45 AM
... I didn't think about that, but making Richard Hatch's character the Last Cylon is something that Eick and Moore would get off on doing, just to needle those crazies who worship the original, cheesy version of BSG.

Besides, it would fit with his character's lack of background info besides his terroristic activities. I mean, we don't know anything about Anders or Tory, and Tyrol claims to be from Geminon with priests for parents, but that could be programing.

One of those things is that people will be born. Another is that people will die. Another is that no matter what state you are in, there will always be long ass lines at walmart and too few cashiers. And the other thing is that Fox will have a decent sci-fi series on their hands and cancel it before it has a chance to mature.

Does Whedon honestly believe this show is going to find an large enough audience with network viewers? The premise is just too quirky and too strange to draw a large audinece to be considered a hit on network standards. Joss would've been better off shopping this to cable network like FX or even Sci-Fi. Oh, and thanks for the troll bait TheCap.

Remember how at the very end of each Buffy episode the Fox banner would come in? That's because fox produced the show, and then it got sold to some other network. So Fox seems ok as producers, but as a network they can't hold sci-fi show for more than 3 episodes.

I'm pretty sure that Joss has said that the people (assholes) who messed with Firefly so badly are no longer there, and that he has more confidence in the new blood at Fox. I'm bummed that they didn't cast Jonathan Woodward (Knox) in the techie role, but I have faith (no pun intended) in his casting. Four leads yet to cast, so maybe another Buffy/Angel alum (perhaps someone who's not obvious).
