Its like watching the Jazz singer which is a silent movie and suddenly you get sound when he sings except here its of an ordinary sentence. But I think Quint is paying homage to the old "Cinerama" "You wont believe your ears!" "IN 3D!!" ,1950s gimick cinema days...AMAZING SOUND_O_TEXT! Wow, text into sound!

You got that right, theycallmemrglass (great handle, by the way). I've definitely got a voice for print.

I think eventually we'll post the full audio, but we're still working on hosting these files. They're pretty massive and with the traffic we're getting... well, having 35 meg (15 minute interviews) to over 100 meg (45 minutes) downloaded by thousands means crazy bills. I'm sure we'll get it going soon enough, but you're right that Amazing Sound-O-Text is definitely a nod to the William Castle type gimmicks. It all started when I upgraded to a digital recorder and it was easier to pull sound clips. Now they're there to add to the regular written interviews, but I'm sure we'll evolve at some point.

Looks like I'd better invest in that multi-region DVD player at long last. Also, Pegg's ability as a dramatic actor was first evident in the final episode of series 1 of Spaced, when Tim and Daisy are having that huge row intercut with bits from Tekken (GREAT scene btw).

One of those rare celebs who you meet and feel like they're genuinely interested in you and who takes the time to talk with you. Same goes with Edgar, Nick & Jessica, so it's easy to see why they stick together and get along so well. I hope Hollywood doesn't twist them or that they let fame go to their heads. Long may they continue working together and churning out quality movies and tv shows. By the way, if this 'Paul' project turns out to be about an English nerd moving to the States and how he adapts to life over there, I'll be forced to talk to my lawyer!

Is it broader and less funny than his previous output...YES. Is it meant to be broader and gentler ....YES. Its also a reasonably entertaining 90 minutes, not mascerading as Oscar material but a nice little rom-com and Pegg shows hes a good actor in it. My fave Pegg acting moment which i think shows his acting ability is the last episode of Series 1 of Spaced. The "life just isnt like the movies" speech is really well writtten, heartfelt and well acted. Along with Steve Coogan hes the best our UK's funnymen-turned-actors. Plus he sounds like a jolly nice bloke. Good on you Simon and i hope it all goes well for you.

The problem was that "The Long Game" felt like a filler episode between "Dalek" and "Father's Day" and is easily overlooked. I'd love to see Pegg make another appearance on the series, especially facing off against David Tennant's Tenth Doctor.

The Amzing Sound-O-Text is the way it is because that's the way Quint wants it, it's all just part of this site's particular style and charm. That any Shaun of the Dead or Pegg and Frost fan should just buy Spaced without question. It's absolutely one of the best comedy series ever and for my money still as good, if not BETTER, than any of their filmic endeavours. Their numerous and effortless references are beyond compare and Brian (neither Pegg nor Frost) is one of the most fantastic characters I've ever seen.

Kong and Cars
by Quint
Mar 27th, 2008
04:01:39 AM
Yeah, I liked those movies. So what? They're good films. Just because they're not the best from the filmmakers involved and flawed (I think Kong needed another character pass and Cars could have done without the modern references, which is usually alien to Pixar releases) they're both well executed films. And if you don't see the relation of the Star Wars prequels to JJ Abrams'... um... PREQUEL to Star Trek, then I don't know what to say. It's certainly not "random." You might not agree with it, that's for sure, but it's not random.

and King Kong was good. Of course, this could suck a lot harder than the SW prequels and get away with it because Star Trek has been down so many tangents that each new movie is not exactly on hallowed ground. I hope they cast Hayden Christiansen as Khan this time around

Seppukudkurosawa, Simon definitely said 'taking the piss', I spotted this as well. To all those wondering why Diablo Cody is involved, she appeared on Edgar Wright's guest spot on an American radio show he did, and they got along really well, hence her contribution to the Region 1 Spaced commentary. And Justafan_uk is correct in saying that Spaced pisses all over both Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz. Don't get me wrong, I liked both movies, but they didn't come close to the brilliance of Spaced in terms of comedy quotes, sequences and 'nerd' references. "You can't drink a pint of Bovril!"

It depends what type of movie you'd want it to be. They may have knocked out a fun, comedy type thing which is great if that's what you want. If you wanted something true to the spirit of the original, forget it, no one in the UK knows what the fuck Land of the Lost is. It's never been shown here as far as I'm aware, and though people (especially those guys) have probably seen some of it on the net or whatever, it's not quite the same as growing up with it and loving it like you guys seem to I'd have thought?
