I really can't get my head around this movie. Why? Who fucking cares? Will there be extended shots of Brolin/Bush clearing shrubbery? Dancing with Africans? Stone will immediately be vilified by the right wing media, and he will probably pussy out and not make the film critical enough to please the left wingers. So, I predict garbage, but with an unusually hot Laura Bush. Hopefully this exchange will take place: Laura: "Ooh, you know where to shave me." Dubya: "Yeah! I wanna shave your head."

This casting literally makes the film sound like it's supposed to be a joke. Elizabeth Banks? She's young and attractive and looks and seems NOTHING like Laura Bush. I mean talk about shameless Hollywood casting. What the fuck kind of movie is Stone making here? Seriously it sounds like a David Lynch film or some sort of political comedy. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that it's just understood the Bush presidency is enough of a laughing stock that we can freely make films about it while it's happening and no one bats an eye, but what the fuck is this movie supposed to be??!!

Is right on the money. I can't imagine for the life of me how this movie could possibly please anyone. If it were being made in say, 15-20 years, while we're all changing the subject when our kids ask us if we voted for him, maybe. But the man is still in office, for shit's sake. What the hell is going on?

And Oliver Stone, my god, it's a recipe for a disaster of biblical proportions. I'll probably go see it with the same type of curiosity I reserve for car accidents. Strange times. Strange fucking times.

Oliver Stone hasn't made a good film in forever, and continuing his president schtick isn't going to fool anyone. Too much of the movie won't be accurate. We need to wait at least 6 more years after McCain is out of the white house. And hopefully the democrats will get there head out of there asses and make someone like Al Gore president rather then trying to convince old/white trash America that a crazy lady and a dude with probably the worst name possible that they should be president. Nothing against them, but I mean come on, winning an election is all about appeal. So we know McCain won't let any secrets out (like he did on O’Brian), we'll need the next president to go into office and be like: "OH what? WHAT is this? AHHHh way is this desk so sticky? What is going on over here? Damnit what the hell is that smell coming out of the VP's closest? Where did all these teeth come from? Why is there a vile of blood next to the rum? From Satan, To Dick? Sign a bill to allow the Army to just fire bullets 24/7? No I am not going to do that just because 'Well W. would do it and he was cool'! Why is there a direct line on my phone with the name Osama Bin Laden next to it? HOW many illegal immigrates do we really have chained up in the basement?"

Once we get someone in office who is going to clean up the mess, and air out the smell of death from the White House. Then we can have a realistic bio movie. While casting Elizabeth Banks could mean that this could be a comedy (i just don't see her doing drama that well (check The Heights if you nay say), but Josh the only good thing about No Country Brolin? WAY too straight, dour of and actor to play the Yakko of presidents. Seriously Lil'Bush is a dumb show but its fucking funny, just fucking make that animated Bush the lead role. It is the only way to properly portray Walter.

I've read the latest draft of the screenplay. It takes place during their college years when Bush, son of a wealthy political family, first realizes that his carrousing youthful exploits must come to an end if he is to truly live out his destiny.

Then Klingons using the portal from City on the Edge of Forever, go back in time and kill him. This creates an alternate timeline wherein our government is now far more militaristic than it would have been (i know, right?) as we gear up for what is clearly a major intergalactic war about to drop on our footsteps. Simon Pegg will play Jeb Bush, and there's rumored to be a cameo from George Herber Walker Bush, but he swears he's never even met with Stone. I think its all a trick and he'll be in it at the end as a gift to the fans.

Treason and sedition exists in this country, there are federal laws on the books against it, which you can look up. People need to start getting deported. It's that simple. If we can deport Elian Gonzales by force, we can certainly do that for people like Oliver Stone. Lincoln suspended habeas corpus during the Civil War, FDR had traitors and spies shot and hung during WWII. It has been done, it needs to be done again. Hollywood is a nest of vipers that routinely supports the overthrow of this government and the destruction of the United States Military. Websites like AICN are accessories to high treason and sedition against the United States.

OBAMA RELATED TO BUSH, CHENEY AND BRAD PITT
by BringingSexyBack
Mar 26th, 2008
10:19:40 AM
Obama, the son of a white woman from Kansas and a black man from Kenya, can call six U.S. presidents, including George W. Bush, his cousins. McCain is a sixth cousin of first lady Laura Bush.

Genealogist Christopher Child said that while the candidates often focus on pointing out differences between them, their ancestry shows they are more alike than they think.

"It shows that lots of different people can be related, people you wouldn't necessarily expect," Child said.

Obama has a prolific presidential lineage that features Democrats and Republicans. His distant cousins include President George W. Bush and his father, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson, Harry S. Truman and James Madison. Other Obama cousins include Vice President Dick Cheney, British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill and Civil War General Robert E. Lee.

Pitt and Obama are ninth cousins, linked by Edwin Hickman, who died in Virginia in 1769.

What is Stone going to do with this anyway? When I heard he was doing a movie about 9/11 I thought it was going to blow the lid off the whole thing and then it was just some movie. Incidentally though, if you rewatch JFK in the current atmosphere, it's kinda freaky.

Supporters of Bush don't want to be subjected to two hours of Bush-bashing and opposers are just sick of having to live in the country under him and want nothing more than to forget about him. Plus a President is defined by his LEGACY, which doesn't become apparent until years after his term is up. I don't think they should have received as much attention as they did either. But the irony was too much to resist for us liberals. For eight years we had to watch the Clintons get raked over the coals for lack of "family values" and Bill's infidelity, but then Chelsea was the PERFECT kid. She was smart, and well-behaved and kind. The media had a good ole time making fun of her awkward looks during her adolescence but she has grown up to be fairly good looking. Then you had W roll in with his religiousness and his preaching of family-values and his condemning of Bill's infidelity and HIS daughters end up being the "problem" children - drinking and partying every weekend and embarassing their father. But like I said that is still normal behavior for college students and they were also treated unfairly by the media, and I don't know about Laura but Jenna has turned out to be a seemingly well-rounded individual workign as a teacher, doing humanitarian work, etc. I respect that a great deal.

He's a sociopath, for sure, but at least he's honest, and he seems to actually believe what he says.

ccchhhrrriiisssm, on the other hand, is stuck in a hamster wheel of political thinking, there are only Liberals (who stand for everything 'bad') and Conservatives (who naturally stand for everything 'good'). If I thought for a second that he actually believes this simplistic view, I'd pity him, and offer him a cookie, and gently ask him where his caregiver has gone off to, since he's obviously on the internet unsupervised. However, He's got at least a 6th grade education, judging by his vocabulary and spelling, so I assume he's intelligent enough to understand that such a simple, narrow view of politics (or indeed, any part of the human experience) is inaccurate, to say the least.

So, why promote such a demonstrably false premise? He thinks he's clever. He says this stuff to be divisive, to start shit, to be an agent provocateur, stirring up agitprop for the AICN masses. He's a toady, a flunky of the right wing, bootlicker, ass-kisser, stooge. Pay no mind to the little man with the incendiary words, he does not represent the conservative voice here, or anywhere else, for that matter.

The Clintons are obviously very protective of their daughter and I can't blame them. These people are nasty. Sometimes I wonder if this venom is from a conscious action. A while ago I visited the Huffington Post (the talkbackers under the articles make aintitcool's look like grandma's Sunday Bridge game)and for no reason that could possibly interest their readers they posted that one of the Bush daughters was getting married. This is barely news and is certainly not news to this site and the only reason I can surmise why this was there was for the talkbackers to spew their crap. I thought I accidentally clicked on to PerezHilton there for a moment.

Everybody (with exception of Cygnus and Chrism) knows about Rove and how he was fired from Bush Sr.'s Administration, who saw the value of Bush Jr., ingratiated himself to Dubya, became his mentor in the art of public speaking, hid themselves away for a time with Bush reemerging a new character, established valuable ties with right-wing Christian groups with the promise of supporting their aspirations for political control and wealth, engineered every dirty political campaign he was involved with to install Bush in the WH, for the sole purpose of selling that position of power to the biggest players around, namely the NeoCons, industrial military complex, oil industry, and K Street. I'd bet Rove will end up nearly being the central character in this thing.

More in common with us, rather than USS Cygnus and chhhrriiisssmm? Judging from his past movies, Stone probably thinks Rove was Bush's sidekick, or something.

I can imagine a scene in Stone's "W"

Scene- aircraft carrier-platform BUSH- (after landing an f-14 and disembarking to the tarmac) "Well, that was one tough bitch of a job, but praise Jesus, it's all over."

ROVE: "Boss! Boss! You're alive! Did you do it? Is it over? Did you ACCOMPLISH your MISSION?"

BUSH:" Well hello there, Turdblossom! (ruffles Rove's 12 remaining hairs) ACCOMPLISH my MISSION, huh? Well now, that there gives me an ideer."

For various reasons ... among them:

This is Oliver Stone first and foremost, who was once fearless in pursuing ugly truths. Now that the game is nearly over for Dubya, it's time to examine the origins of this 8-year descent into madness. Some say we need some time to reflect on his legacy. Nope. Now is the time. We live in an age of instant information. We have enough to examine the consequences of Bush & Co's actions now. We're already reeling in many ways from them.

Josh Brolin. His mother-in-law is none other than Barbra Streisand, hero of the Left. Despite his talents, I think there was some ulterior motive for casting him.

But...

Is a hollywood oscar vehicle really the best we can hope for, in terms of an appropriate context for examining the last 8 years and what went so wrong? I don't see movies as the first choice for a platform of social/cultural self examination, at least not at first. I think of movies as the side effect to real examination.

Also, It seems you think much more highly of Stone than I do, as a filmmaker. I consider him overbearing, obvious, and too dumb for his chosen subject matter. I thought Natural Born Killers was an obscene joke, Alexander was an overripe piece of shit, and the Doors was a tragic shame. I don't even like the band the Doors, and I still felt personally insulted by the movie. I think Stone is a hack of the highest order, so considering that he's the guy in the driver's seat on this one makes me cringe so hard I collapse in on myself and cease to exist.

A movie, though far from the ideal medium for examining a subject, is still suitable because it reaches so many. It's a massively popular medium, and one that can be revisited time and again. I get your POV, though. I think we're entitled to a more stately and serious examination, but let's face facts. This country is in some serious denial, and that ain't gonna happen.

About Stone ... I'm more a fan of his earlier movies, though I never saw NBK. I don't know how you feel about JFK, but here's my take. It's one of my most admired movies. I've seen it (and Wall Street) more times than I can possibly count. It's one of those movies I can just have on and let it sink into my subconscious. It's a barrage of theories and confusing as hell. But it's intelligent, and it presents lots and lots of questions. And that, to me, is what Stone strives to do. To question everything. I think it's even more worthwhile to listen to his commentary track on that movie too, to get a feel for where he's coming from and what his values and goals are in his filmmaking.

I used the word "fearless" before. I think, maybe hope, he is still fearless at his core. I haven't been crazy about his late works, but JFK and Wall Street (especially the part with Martin Sheen) solidified my respect for Stone, and his attempts at holding a mirror or magnifying glass to our society.

Stone doesn't need to have the answers. But he does seek them out, and given that this is a movie about Bush's formative political years, I'm confident he will have the best resources to understand his subject. In this case, I'm hoping he enlists James Moore and Wayne Slater among his consultants. If that be the case, this movie will find me first on line to see it.

To be completely honest, I haven't seen either of those films, so I defer. If you respect them that much, they're definitely worth a look.

I guess I'm just pissed that this movie is happening at all. Like I said earlier, it won't, it can't please anyone. Stone isn't going to portray what this presidency has really been about (to be fair, no one would be able to do that), partly because no one knows the real truth about most of what's gone on, the stuff we think we know is diluted with misinformation and half-truths, and besides, truth is stranger than fiction. I'm sure that even if Stone made his most 'fearless', controversial, 'speaking-truth-to-power' film ever, it still wouldn't hold a candle to the real shit. Hell, 45 years later and we still have no idea who killed Kennedy, or even the finer details of the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Republicans will hate this movie for being too hard on the man, and Democrats will hate it for being too soft. Stone can't win with this one.

It just doesn't seem like the Stone responsible for Platoon, Wall Street, JFK, and hell, even Born on the 4th of July, is the Stone that is still active in film making. It seems like after Nixon, each film cuts a little less deep. And World Trade Center? It seemed like he was expecting to be rapped buy the conservative mouthpieces, so he made a movie so superficial that the director of the Bourne movies surpassed him in terms of important 9/11 film making. Maybe I'm wrong, but I see Stone making a conscious effort to avoid controversy, which won't keep the Hannitys and the O'Reillys off his ass and won't please the people looking for an honest, critical portrayal. I agree with you a bit, samsquanch, that what we actually know about this administration is suspect, but there are a lot more former administration members looking for their post employment book deals now then there was during the Kennedy years, so there seems to be more information. That is if you can trust what George Tenet has to say.

Not sure if that's the right way to go. If you want to disagree with him on policy, that's fine. I'm a conservative (but sane about it) and God knows I've disagreed with him on a lot. We all know that Stone hates Bush. I hope he's not going to put Bush's past under a microscope and focus on every bad, stupid, or questionable thing he ever did. Many would argue that it would turn into a 4 hour epic. But seriously, anyone's life would look bad under that kind of scrutiny. Especially if the director has an agenda to try and portray the subject in the worst possible light. Same thing if you got a director that loved Bush (if you could find one). The film would have too much of a slant and wouldn't be accurate. Which is why I think you need to do a biopic like this years down the line. Let all the angst and hate for the man die down a little. It worked for Jimmy Carter.

The guy I was arguing with on the Mamma Mia! TB kept calling everyone homophobic assholes for daring to say the movie sounded gay. You should read through some of that crap. He thinks only homosexuals should be able to use the word, or that it only be used in order to describe homosexuals.

I'm frankly amazed at his hypocritical stance. I would assume that he's not the only one on here or out there that feels that way, though. Bunch of crazies.

Getting histrionic about the use of the word "gay" in a Mamma Mia talkback is quite hilarious since the movie, by being a movie about ABBA, is, by definition, gay in the most basic sense of the word, much like a movie obsessing about Judy Garland and her fans would be gay.

in regards to using the word festive to mean crippled
by Napoleon Park
Mar 28th, 2008

Gay, which means festive, was picked up as a slang term to mean homosexual and then high-jacked by the ignorant children parodied on South Park to mean "lame", a word that once meant crippled but is now used to describe something that is hackneyed or uninspired.

Face, it, using the words festive or homosexual to mean hackneyed or disabled is just illiterate.

And, hockingite, getting your semantic ass kicked in a talk-back about a movie based on a Broadway show featuring music by a '70s disco vocal band and then slinking off to other talkbacks to complain about it is teh ghey. Totally.
