"gay", but calling someone "gay" is so Kevin Smith... And by Kevin Smith, I mean "former comedian turned over-the-hill, self-important douche".

Anyway, great interview as (almost) always, Capone. Schwimmer seems to be nice, and I've heard many good things about his flick. Where I live the movie tanked but Pegg ain't exactly a star, and the posters and trailers were off the mark. Too bad how lousy marketing can kill a film; I'm gonna check it tomorrow night anyways.

Because then it would be Run, Deadboy, Run...

I'm too tired.

On an entirely related note, I just opened my mailbox and along with my Time Warner cable bill was a screener copy of Run, Fatboy, Run. Suddenly, my evening has a a greater purpose. Though JAWS is playing at the Ziegfeld tonight, too. Decisions, decisions...

The Big Nothing Had Amazing Potential...

...for like the first 15 minutes. I was hoping the film would have been more about Simon and David working in the call centre (the title was applicable, after all) and the few scenes they did there were hilarious. I've worked in various call centres for the past 4 years now and they really need to do a film about life there.
As for the rest of The Big Nothing, it was ok, but got incredibly weird as fuck near the end. Good chemistry between David and Simon though.
This movie was a real disappointment

I went into this expecting to love it simply due to Pegg's great track record, and while it isn't a total turd, it was a disappointing film. Incredibly predictable and formulaic, and on top of that, Pegg's Dennis isn't particularly likable. It's hard for me to root for a guy who ran like a little bitch from his pregnant fiancee on their wedding day, is a pretty shit father to his kid, and only decides to win his ex back AFTER he sees her with someone else. Yawn.

Schwimmer

Mar 24th, 2008
12:50:51 PM
I always thought Schwimmer was the most all-around talent to come out of Friends. 20 years from now, he'll be the only one w/ a career (not that it matters with the $ they made). He's the one that engineered the $1 million / per ep deal. And he took the opportunity to become a director; always smart. His film Duane Hopwood was surprisingly good and well executed. And when you see him in interviews, he's the only one that doesn't seem like their Friends character; like he might have actually "acted."
This is not worth paying for

A great cast is wasted on a cliched ,been there, done it storyline with Pegg as a not very sympathetic loser. Blame the script (and Schwimmer for not trying harder when he really should have known better). Anyone who says this is really funny or cute is a plant.

Needless sarcasm ahead: Simon Pegg's first movie without Edgar Wright and Nick Frost? Oh, right. I forgot how Wright directed Mission: Impossible 3, which of course featured the inspired casting of Nick Frost as a completely reimagined Ethan Hunt. Come to think of it, that might have been a better movie.... *end needless snarkcasm*

A good call centre film is the boiler room. Not 100% about call centres but more about shady share dealing from - you guessed it - tele sales outfits. Giovanni Ribisi was fantastic in it as were (surprisingly) Vin Diesel and Ben Afleck! Yup, shocked the crap out of me too!

LeBlanc and Kudrow don't appear anything like their Friends characters in interviews or other projects either.

Aniston and Cox do though. They're by far the worst. Perry obviously does as well, but that guy is just too damn awesome to hate anyway. He can just play himself in anything and it's great, well, his "performance" at least.

Chandler was by far the best Friend and the most "real" character.

"The Opposite Of Sex" with Lisa Kudrow. No joke, it's a great movie and she's great in it. In a key supporting role, so it's not just a star vehicle like all those "Let's just put the Greek girl with the big nose in a rom-com movie that winds up on Oxygen" movies.

Admitted Kudrow wasn't the shows big breakout star and her own sit-com vehicle based on the high concept "former TV star tries for comeback" was a bit too clever for her own good. But "The Opposite of Sex" was wicked awesome.

By the way, considering that the name of the show was "Friends", did you ever get the impression that Phoebe never really liked any of them?

I'll do best movie for each of them...

Aniston = Office Space
Cox = Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Kudrow = Wonderland
Schwimmer = Big Nothing
Perry = The Whole Nine Yards
LeBlanc = Charlie's Angels
Strangely enough, Aniston, the worst of the bunch, was clearly in the best movie.

Why is AICN covering this movie? Because Simon Pegg is in it? Let me ruin the movie for you. Simon Pegg is a "fatass" who decides to compete in a marathon against his ex-fiancee's new fiancee in order to try and win back his old fiancee who he left at the altar (pregnant). Simon Pegg goes from not being able to walk down the street to being able to walk 26 miles on a busted ankle with NO training. He literally wakes up the day of the race, late of course, and rolls out of bed and tries to run 26 miles, busts his ankle and walks the rest of the race. Sure, there is the obligatory "let's get in shape montage" but that is short lived as Pegg's character gives up early on. The End.

I love Pegg, but this film will REALLY make you appreciate the talent of his cohort, Mr. Edgar Wright. You, Mr. Schwimmer, are no Edgar Wright.

Thandie Newton has got to be one of the most unattractive "leading ladies" in all of Hollywood. Fortunately, I was introduced to India De Beaufort, a walking goddess. That is all.
Schwimmer is brilliant

I love his work on "The Friends." With UPRISING he showed that not only is he a Jewish man, but also a strong Jewish man and he did a fine job of sending those Nazi bastards to hell. I thought he was brilliant in DWAYNE HOPWOOD. He showed his versatility as an actor, using every explosive exhale to its full extent.

I plan on seeing RUN, FATASS as soon as it hits my theater. I am certain that Schwimmer has brought out Mr. Edgar Wright's best performance to date as the titular character, Fatass. I wish them well in whatever future endeavors they embark on together.

Also, I thought they were a fine duo in BIG NOTHING. I think they played a gay couple in Oregon, except it was obviously shot in British Colombia. As a lifelong Oregon resident, I was very angry. So fuck that movie.

Continue to dazzle me with your directing prowess, Schwimmer. And please give us DWAYNE HOPWOOD 2. I want to see if he will relapse.

All good points. I know I'm really splitting hairs about the six Friends. Perry was great on his West Wing stint. Courtney Cox might have the longest resume of any of them. LeBlanc sadly morphed into a caricature which may be more the writing than his acting. Kudrow is great, but she came out of Groundlings (I think) and was always doing sketch/ character work. Schwimmer is the one I really think is now doing something different and daring with his position and career.

And not the glamorous Hollywood alcoholic. I'm talking the blackout drunk who goes home and beats his wife, then passes out in the gutter and shits his pants. He wakes up in the morning to find a dog pissing in his face. He shrugs it off and says, "Wednesdays."

The Oscar is calling for Mr. LeBlanc.
