Joanna drowned herself, Scott (or Steve) got Ethaned, the guy with glasses was never heard from again, Dr. Arzt blew up real good and the fans hated Nikki and Paulo so much they were buried alive to thunderous applause.

It was always surmised that the rest of the original 48 passengers were just there to fill the background scenes and to serve as red shirts and cannon fodder and "victims of the monster" or as polar bear chow. If those couple dozen non-characters were only created to die, let's get on with it and kill them already.

Anyway, since Ben seems to be warning his daughter to leave the camp. Maybe Ben got word from his spy Kevin Johnson that the heli is on it's way to the camp to bust things up. Maybe they are trying to get grenade mouth back too. Just a thought.

2. He was always a spy for Ben's group. It's why he never went to see Walt when he was young, how the Others knew to go after the raft, and how he was able to have a new identity quickly...he already had it.

3. He never made it home. He was adrift on the boat until he ran into the freighter. Unfortunately this doesn't explain much and doesn't match up with some of the things rumored to happen in the episode.

4. Kevin Johnson isn't Michael, at least, not the same one that was on the plane. We've seen (or most of us have) the Orchid video and there is a duplicate Michael. (The Prestige, FTW?)

5. Magic Walt has learned more about his powers and was able to change reality rather than just crash birds into windows. By manipulating reality Walt made it where he and his father never got on the plane, and they have been trying to get back to save people ever since.

Ok, my theories are getting more and more absurd, so I think I'll stop guessing and just have to wait to find out.

Yeah I'm sure they are going to flesh out the Ben and Alex storyline some more. She really is the only person he cares about well besides his boyish love for Juliet. Creepy dude there.

I do mention other shows I watch about once a week here just as a way of kidding the truly devoted Lost fanatics who seem to believe that there's only one good hour of television per week - or the more typical AICN kids who seem to think that if it ain't sci-fi/fantasy, it's crap. {Todays "tape Eli/watch Lipstick season finale" comment was specifically a spoof of last weeks spate of "tape Lost, watch Reaper" posts. New Reaper tonight, by the way.)

As for the challenge to post something about Lost to try to stimulate some discussion of the show, I refer you to "So Who Dies? (2.12.52) and "Dead Gilligans" (7.59.02) as evidence that I am making the effort.

I caught part of it a few weeks back and there is a scene where they go to buy a karaoke (?) machine. This asian guy comes in singing a really bad version of Jesse's Girl by Rick Springfield.

It is none other than Mister "I see dead people and eat grenades for breakfast" Miles himself. He is doing this horrible stereotypical asian accent. Then he stops and says "alright I'll sell it to you straight" and he is doing his normal voice.

It was so damn funny to see him acting like that after seeing him on Lost. You have to check it out.

My first thought was that NCAA was the organization that issues the Comics Code Approval stamp on newsstand distributed comic books.

Would Michael murder two women under orders in order to save his son? No doubt, but I think what actually happened was that he came specifically to assassinate Ana Lucia and Libby walked in, surprised him, he pointed the gun and popped her. I don't think that was deliberate or part of any master plan (other than the possible master plan to get the drunk party girls off the show.)

I have an antisocial question. Hawaii produces the best quality domestic marijuana in the United States and it's expensive - heck, it was expensive in 1978 the last time I saw any - but these hit show actors must be able to afford it. So why are they drinking alcohol? Or is it that stoners just lay back and mellow out and the drinkers go driving around getting caught? Don't smoke pot, kids; it's expensive and illegal. Don't drink and drive either; it's potentially lethal, and not just because Michael will shoot you when you get home.

Basically, we know people cant get close to the island and leave with out getting sick. (Fisher Stevens and Desmond, and the other guy). Desmond got sick because he was there when the hatch exploded. So who wasn't near the Hatch when it exploded..Hurley (O sixer, check), Jack (check), Kate (check), Sawyer (no check ?), Sayid (check), Jin and Sun (check). Does this factor into who is allowed to leave and who doesn't? Makes sense.

However, this brings up an interesting question. Does anyone know that Michael killed Ana and Libby or just that he betrayed Jack, Sawyer, Kate and Hurley? They may all still think Ben killed A and L and shot Michael.

Sun just had her baby which was conceived more than a month after being on the island. Their story claims that Jin died in the crash. Is she trying to convince everyone including her doctors that she was already pregnant and is giving birth very early?

There is a plane at the bottom of the ocean with a bunch of dead bodies. There have been press conferences and family notifications and all sorts of news coverage, so everyone knows about this. How can they possibly explain 6 living people?

Where did the black box come from? Is it the real black box or from the fake plane? If it's from the fake, who cares if anyone has it. If it's from the real plane, how did Widmore get it before finding the island?

Did Ben really plant the fake plane? If not, who did and why?

I wanna believe the note to Sayid, and in effect NOT believe the captain. What I'm more inclined to question is where one would get 324 bodies to place in a fake crash site. This coincides with a theory that Widmore set up the fake wreckage so as to not let anyone else go looking for the island.

On the other hand, that one will burn out eventually and this one will keep going until April 24th, so we'll get them eventually.

I still have that same problem with the walking through the jungle bit too. Everyone seems to just run into eachother like they are all on the same path. Then when Sun goes to get ready for a trek they say it takes two days to get to Locke's camp. Oh well this is all small stuff but it can take you out of the story.

LOST is going to change the game tonight. What we thought we knew will be thrown into question. 3.2 million? 32 hours until the commandos land from the other boat to take this island by force. My theory as to why Ben wants Alex OUT of there now.

Kevin looks older (as some very good ideas have pointed out)because he arrived in NY at a time previous to the time he ever took custody of WAAAAAAALT. He is now in a different timeline. THose on the island are in a "time bubble" and are immune to the effects of changes to space time on the outside. Michael knew what he had and now what he is LOST. And he is on a mission to die. But he won't.

Did anybody else notice the confirmation of the Oceanic Six in the April 24 promo? Apparently, Aaron is one of them. Glad that's been settled. Can't wait to hear my fellow east-coasters' opinions of tonight's ep. For now, here's mine:

(MAJOR SPOILERS)

1. Glad to see Libby's back. Thought it was a bit odd that Michael's guilty conscious was only visited by apparitions of her and not AnaL. Then I remembered it was Ana Lucia we were talking about.

2. Tom's a player. Who knew? Come on, guys. That foreign dude's gotta be a 7 by gay standards. Someone back me up here (pun intended). Speaking of which, I have to admit I was a little pissed by Naomi's cameo tonight. I'm still holding on to the hope that Regina will be revealed as her lover in future flashback eps. It would explain where that nifty bracelet came from and the suicide. Plus it'd give me more Zoe Bell.

3. Tsk, tsk. Sayid, you sneaky little bastard. Just one question: What the hell!? Did you pull a Desmond for the majority of the flashback or what? In case you didn't hear, he's trying to PROTECT you guys! The way I see it, Ben's the closest thing you've got to an ally right now. Could this be the catalyst that leads these two to joining forces in the future?

4. That 'bullet bouncing off the skull' line was definitely the creepiest thing I've heard in a while. If what I've read is true, that was the answer to the Jack/suicide question. You're not dying until the island says so. But does it only apply to everyone who LEAVES the island or specific individuals? I do recall Tom being shot by Sawyer.

5. Since Walt's growth wasn't addressed this episode I'm very interested in seeing where this all leads. Nana Dawson acted pretty unaware when talking to Michael outside.

6. Did anyone catch the "Slaughterhouse-Five" reference on Mike's telly? It definitely coincides with Desmond and Minkowski but I don't know if it has any significance in his case.

7. Is she or isn't she? Darlton have stated that Rousseau's flashback would come later in the series since it would potentially reveal many of the island's mysteries. But did they have to kill just when we were getting the old Danielle back. The mother-daughter exchange was pretty heart-breaking so it may be the real deal. However, I wouldn't rule out survival just yet. After all the trouble they went through making that hideous wound in Karl's chest why the ambiguity?

Well, these are just some of my thoughts about tonight's wonderful ep. Yes...there's more. What did you guys think?

I always personally thought this idea was weak because it makes the universe a kind of god but it could explain Michael being unable to kill himself.

She's going to be ransom, for sure.

But, I wouldn't put it past Ben to tell the Others to kill whoever was with his daughter if she came searching for them. He's proven he's got a BAD jealous streak. All in all one of the better episodes this week and we finally got ANSWERS about Michael. Took long enough!

2) We have gotten hints that things don't turn out to good for those left behind on the Island. I for one think that a lot of people are going to die. It's the reason why "We have to go back!" Plus Sayid becomes Ben's assassin to save whatever's left of the island losties.

2) Yeah, we don't know what is going to happen. But I still believe that whatever it is, it's going to be BAD.

Who faked the fake crash? Widmore. Where's Miles? Oh, here he is. Why did Naomi fly the first chopper when there was a better pilot on the ship? They address it. Did "not my type" really mean Mr. Friendly was gay? yup.

By the way, Wa-a-ay back when The Others took Walt off the raft, I repeatedly refered to them as "the gay pirates." CALLED IT!

After all the speculation over who dies Michael comes right out and says "I came here to die." - and then doesn't. Karl gets plinked and I'm going "Aww no they didn't, he's too minor, what a rip of..." BANG (or Phffft!) and Danielle goes down.

After weeks of arguments here over the identity of the 6th Oceanic Six member, the preview just shows closeups of all six, including Turnip Headed Aaron! Answers out the freaking wazoo.

Then after watching a few other things I taped I come here and everything is well organized and mostly on topic. No big flame wars or trolling going on, no rumbles, nobody live-blarging sportsball jamborees. And sensible theories are outweighing the "it's a show about time travel" nonsense talk. The point about Sayid being Ben's Man On The Boat with a deliberate reason for betraying Michael is so good I hope it's true. Even though Ben does, at one point, come out and say "Michael is my man on the boat" or words to that effect. Hey, Locke has to learn not to believe anything Ben says.

Speaking of the people who wanted all the answers now, was that the writers speaking through Locke with his line "I want to thank you all for your patience"? Brilliant!

And as I predicted before my nappy time, this talkback did make it up to #2 on the hit parade. One person complained about the "Terminator Of Endearment" thread at #1 but if you don't like it or don't find that sort of thing funny, just don't go there.

Great episode, great cliffhangers (Alex, Michael, in upcoming battle alluded to in the preview) - It's the first day of spring and here in West Michigan a blizzard is coming. It's all good. And only a month until another straight run of Lost episodes! "Two days ago I was sitting in a cell and now I'm sitting here eating pound cake."

Dang that was an enjoyable viewing experience.

Remember the brilliant scene where she walks in on Locke in the Black Rock and they both acknowledge each other as equals without saying anything much at all ? She is not a character to be thrown away simply because the writers wanted a shock death on the screen at this point in the show and the manner of her death was frankly, incredibly weak.

So me personally, I can't believe she's dead. There's more to that "ambush" than we know. The obvious answer would be it is the others waiting for Alex and taking out Danielle and the boyfriend on Ben's orders, so for that very reason I can't see it being that simple.

Also I take it people have already brought up the possibility that the Captain knows that Michael is a traitor because the Cap didn't seem to betray a whole lotta shock to me. But maybe he was just taking it in as Ben giving Sayid Orders is also plausable.

Finally "the Island" having these awesome powers to stop suicides seems raaather a big stretch for me but I'll go along with it if there is some logic too it eventually.

Roll on the next Ep thas for sure.

Okay, Locke was shot with a pistol at close range through the torso and left for dead but the astute observed (yes, I called it) that he was shot through where his kidney WOULD HAVE BEEN if his dad hadn't conned him out of it.

Dannielle "The Crazy French Woman" Rousseau is shot through the upper torso and appears to die but people refuse to accept it. Okay, let's say it wasn't fatal because when they stole Alex from her when she was a baby it ripped her heart out or at least broke it and the bullet passed through the break where her heart would have been. Yeah, that makes sense, right?

Or, gee, maybe being shot through the back with a sniper rifle was, you klnow, actually bad for her.

Was it an anticlamactic way for a recurring character to go, or one with unresolved issues and story elements? Well, considering that the episode began with, among other things, the scenes of AnaL Lucia and Libby getting capped (and Michael clearly shocked and surprised over shooting Libby, who also seemed to have unresolved plot threads dangling), then Dannielle's death seems exactly like something the show's writers would spring on us for the shock value.

And was it in character for her? Well, as I alluded above, people here used to call her "the Crazy French Woman". When you're pinned down by sniper fire, isn't "Let's stand up in an open field and run" a pretty crazy thing to think of? Seems in character to me.

Only one month and three days until the next episode. [Poom!]... LOST.

All the people who want all the answers should have tried Sayid's method years ago. Just grab a character by the shirt, throw them up against a wall and snarl "I want answers" in their face and out they come. Once you get Michael babbling his attention to the details of his narrative are remarkable - if I was telling I was driving at 100 MPH on my way to commit suicide by ramming a dumpster, of course I'd mention that a song by Mama Cass Elliot came on the radio.

I joke, but I skidded off an icy road into a utility pole to the tune of "Under Pressure" by David Bowie and Queen - that IS the sort of thing you'd remember. That's a true story, by the way, except for the part where I claim it's the real origin of Vanilla Creme's "Ice, Ice Baby".

I was just saying, it looked like Danielle and Alex were semi prone and behind a tree when Danielle decided to stand up in the open and run, and took one through the back. I think the result demonstrates that it was a questionable strategy.

Bern B - I did catch the Star Wars quote - "I've got a bad feeling about this" but missed the Barton fink allusion. That's why I enjoy coming here.

(When we flashed back to the present, and Sayid said, "does this mean you're working for Ben," did anyone else expect Michael to say, "Who's Ben? Do you mean that guy Henry Gale?")

But I'm a little confused why Ben would go to all this trouble to coerce Michael--more than a little unstable, and not at all loyal to Ben--into taking the assignment and infiltrating the boat when he has so many other Others he could plant there instead. But then again, I'm still not quite sure why Ben went through such elaborate trickery to get Jack to do the surgery on him when he could have just shown up on day one, invited the survivers to Others Village, given them food and shelter, and Jack probably would have been more than happy to do the surgery, and without double-crossing him. I'm afraid the only answer to that is probably "it wouldn't make good television."

I don't have the episode to review, but are we a hundred percent sure that the helicopter Naomi parachuted from crashed? If so, that seems to be, as people have said, a rather big plot hole.

I don't know why everyone's all up in Sayid's grill for grabbing Michael and turning him in. Maybe it's just that he isn't drinking the Kool-Aid that Ben's serving Locke and the others (and us) back at Others Village. Why are we all of a sudden convinced that Ben is the good guy? Although, with Michael's suicide failures, it does seem that Ben's intentions are in accord with The Island/Jacob--and it's hard to believe that THEY are evil too. Then again, I like the theory that Ben and Sayid's secret deal is that he replace Michael as the inside man. But if that were the case, Sayid wouldn't have spent so much time on the boat dinking around, wondering who sabotaged the communications, making Michael explain himself--he would have gotten down to business. (By the way--is Michael the one that opened the door for them?)

And lastly, I can't imagine that Danielle and Carl getting shot is anything other than the work of Ben. He has specifically tried to keep both of them away from Alex for a long time now, and it was obviously something eating at him while in captivity--now he sends them and only them to a specific place on a map, and when they get there they get shot. Come on!

Anything in the show's past that contradicts this? (The coffin, maybe?)

And Sayid was a hot mess this week. do you love it??!

And Rousseau obviously had to go so that Ben can keep his control over Alex without Rousseau elbowing him in the face every so often.

How does Michael make it back "shortly" to NYC in that little boat?

There was an episode of Northern Exposure where Joel finally left Alaska. He and Maggie were searching for some mysterious lights, and when they found them the lights turned out to be NYC. Yes, from Alaska Joel walked directly into NYC.

We know the coordinates Ben gave Michael were a little bit different from the helicopters. Suppose somehow you can get to anywhere in the world from the island just by following different coordinates. It might explain how a tiny plane leaving Africa can end up crashed on an island in the pacific.

This ep covered a lot of the things I hoped they would cover and I think it was even better than The Constant for advancing the arc. Hell, they even brought up "The Temple" again.

I think we can assume that Rousseau's murderers were not boat people since they didn't show them, yet implied it would be them. Likely the others instead. Ben can communicate with them through the black smoke just like he did with Juliet's "friend."

Mr. Friendly being gay was only confirmation that when a guy says that Kate is "not his type," then he's surely gay. It was interesting that he said that only "some of them" can move off the island. I wonder what that means.

Still not sure what the deal is with Michael. Why the fake bomb and why send him at all? I guess the Island wants him back for some reason (since it won't let him die) and Ben is just going along with it.

I'll miss Rousseau. She's obviously dead, given the tearful "I love you" scene. And I guess there's not much left for her to do anyway. Still though, she was one of the few on the island that I had any respect for. Same with Eko. It seems like scumbags are the only ones who get to live. That's why Michael can't die and he's now one of the "good ones" for completely selling his soul.

I can see the next episode stating with people, whoever they are, coming out from hiding surrounding Alex (who does look hotter) and checking both Danielle and Karl and finding Danielle not quite dead. They can't kill her now in front of Alex, so they take her and Alex with them.

We may see her flashback as she's dying in the next episode.

Or I could be totally talking out of my ass.

Back to Lost - I don't believe Tom's claim that Widmore set up the fake plane. The captain says it, Tom says it - but why should we believe either one? Have they proven to be trustworthy?

I'm sorry we went to the boat, found out Michael made it to NYC, found out where WAAAAALLLLTTT was, found out Ben had CONvinced Michael to be Ben's man on the boat, found out Ben's wishes and the islands don't always jive, found out only some people can go and come as they please, found out Tom's gay, found out these things and other things and more things.

I have to watch this Ep again. I watched the UW game online while I watched LOST, while I prepped Smallville for Torrent. I know - and thanks RB for pointing out my observation, Mike got home EXTREMELY fast for that little boat. I remember that Northern Exposure ep - and I keep going back to that theory that makes the most sense of this show

Vile Verticies. Fits so perfectly. THe Island is a "dumping ground for thos that enter at one of the points. And there is tear in space time at certain (probably moving) coordinate that will spit you back out at once of the enterence points. Ben knows the coordinated to "pass through" and come out at any of the VIle Verticies (hense the passports and foreign currency). At the right heading lies the right exit for one of the Verticies. It waould make those with that knowledge seemingly omnipresent.

I threw a theory Waaaaaay at the beginning before I started blogging during the ep. 3.2 Million was code to Ben that he had 32 hours before "the invasion" by shocktroops. Why do I think that?

1. Miles would know when they are coming and I believe Miles is Ben's ally.

2. Ben said something like "Why not 3.1? 3.3? 3.4?" - kinda like , you know the EXACT HOUR? Oh shit!

3. He knows bad guys are comeing so he works to get Alex oupt of there (yeah, nice work, dad!)

4. The time of 32 hours seems to fit - and now there are people with sophisticated weaponry on the island shooting to kill. I think at least a part of my theory is right.

THIS TB WILL SURVIVE until Ep 4.9. Those in the Big Ten will do their part.

As for people "coming back" after they die...Patchy has set up some sort of "invincibility" theory...like, Mikhail has got some superhuman shit happening. Perhps that's the case...the island does "heal" certain people. But, that grenade certainly solved that..."Dude...you've got some Patchy on you".

That said...Even if Rousseau IS, in fact dead, and not just "wounded"...she could STILL show up in flashbacks. For all we know...she could have been working for Ben when he was "caught" in her net....the same way he forced Michael to work for him by using Walt as leverage. Perhaps a ben flashback will show Ben using Danielle with Alex as leverage. I think we will see parts of Danielle's earliest island adventures...only through ben's eyes now.

So far...we have not seen Widmore's side of the story...sure...the captain brought out the 815 black box last week...but could the captain be working for BEN?! That's what's going to be fun to see, the captain's reaction to Sayid throwing Michael/Kevin under the bus. Will he toss Mike in the brig...or Des & Sayid? Some great writing going on here, folks.

Sorry, I really hate being the complainer all the time, but it's starting to get on my nerves. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

One of the few things that Ben has said that I believe is that he considers himself to be at war. It's possible that it's as simple as "the enemy is Widmore, he has an army, I have an army", but I think it might be more complicated than that. I still think Widmore and Ben are either in cahoots now, or have been in the past and are now rivals.

Very, very interested to find out how the Island can possibly transport people (magic box-teleportation device?) and even more mysteriously, prevent people from dying.

How long do we have to wait?

She has helped the Losties survive more than once now and has the steel to physically stand up to anyone even Ben if not perhaps to his incredible deviousness. She has achieved her goal of getting her daughter yes, BUT then to just kill her off in seconds in an Ambush ??? Nah!

I'll say it again that's just poor writing and throwing an extremely strong character away who has been featured since Ep 1.

Ana L was hardly a great character, Libby had alot of potential true but their deaths MEANT something. Everything that occured in last nights Ep flowed from that shocking but entirely understandable double killilng that also freed Ben.

In complete contrast. Pow! and Danielle is killed by an unseen sniper with no warning and the motive simply Ben wanting her out of Alex's life ???? Weak.

Don't get me wrong though it was a superb Ep up till then but if Rousseau dying is truly how it ended then it's a waste for cheap shocks and nothing more.

And one more thing..."FUCK LAMBEAU"? The football gods are sore dispeased my friend. As for Go Bears...we lost Brett Favre, and still have the best QB in the North. How do ya like dem apples? So, back to LOST. We see bad guys are coming to take coontrol of the island by force. They apparently want all the survivors dead. Ben is going to find a way to get those O-6 off the island - theories on how he does it? A station that can send you back through the enterence of one of the vile vorticies / I was thinking they'd have to sail away from the island and pass through it. But what if one of the enterence/exits were on the island? You could walk right throught it! It wild speculation -- but I'm sticking to the Vile Vorticies Theory.

The shot of Ben noticing Carl's "naughty hand" on Alex's ample, young rump (SHe's 20 in real life people!!) was put there for a reason. Ben wants Alex to have NOTHING to do with her birth Mom...who smacks him in the face everytime he calls Alex "HIS" daughter...and he damn sure doesn't want that idiot Carl knocking his little girl up and giving her a death sentence.

Ben is behind the ambush on Danielle & Carl...not the idiots on the freighter. Them being shown skeet shooting with machine guns last night was a red herring, IMO.

I just think it's premature to call the freighters the "Bad Guys" at this juncture.

My initial point is - to get all the O6 together, I bet Claire gives turniphead ti Hugo to bring to Jack. Claire stays in hiding with locke.

BTW, I really like the way Sayid handled himself this episode. He's one of my favorites, easy, and even when he's relegated to the background he still easily kicks everyone's ass, like we saw in "The Constant". At first I thought he might have shot himself in the foot when he turned in Michael. Not anymore.

From Sayid's perspective, Michael is a murderer and a traitor, and probably doesn't completely buy the "it's for my son" argument, I think Sayid considers Michael to be a coward and a fool, who's willingly sold his soul to Ben. Sayid doesn't trust the frieghties anymore than he trusts Ben, but I'm sure that from a tactical perspective allying himself with the freighties, at least for the time being, makes a lot of sense. Also, by neutralizing Michael, Sayid is effectively neutralizing Ben, which can only be a good thing. He's a badass! A shitkicker! More Sayid-centric episodes, please.

HOw long do we have to wait?

Did everybody catch my mention of the 4-toed statue in last week's talkback? It was one of the last posts before this one came up - said the 4 toed statue was put in the show by exiting sesaon 2 writers as a prank on new season 3 writers - didn't really have an explanation behind how it got there. Kind of a "figure this one out on your own" thing.

Still, what if you could go back in time and address the previous AICN talk-backs and give the answer-whiners the answers they were whining about. Wouldn't that be fun?

1.) Q. Is Lost "Gilligan as a drama." a Fictional "Survivor" or "King Kong with giant polar bears?" A. No.

2.) Q. What is the monster? A. Oh boy, you're not going to believe this, but it's an amorpheous black cloud technologically engineered to be a security system capable of reading minds, appearing as people or animals in peoples thoughts and physically lifting a man and slapping him on the ground and against a tree like a rag doll, but unable to cross an electo-magnetic fence. Q. No, seriously...

3.) Q.) What's with the numbers? A. Uh, serial numbers on a hatch to an underground bunker installed by a research team known as the Dharma Initiative that were contained in the distress call Danielle Roussou, a crazy French woman, sent out on a continous signal. This message was monitored by a man who later was committed to a mental institute where he continually repeated them. They were memorized by Hugo Reyes who won the lottery playing them but subsequently had a run of misfortunes convincing him the numbers were jinxed. The numbers also have to be input into a computer located in the underground Dharma outpost every 108 minutes to prevent the Island's magnetic field from going out of wack and turning the sky purple. Other instances of the numbers, such as hotel room numbers or their appearance on the backs of a row of cheerleaders are just the writer messin' witcha.

4.) Q. Uhh, all right. Who's Hugo Reyes? A. Hurley. And no they never specify how he got the nickname, but he probably just threw up at a party or something, I mean, how else?

5.) Q. Why doesn't Hurley lose any weight? A. They're only on the island for 100 days. A 350 pound man doesn't lose that much weight in three months. As anyone who's been on a weight loss diet can tell you, fat cells can shrink but not be destroyed. Neck fat and visceral belly fat is the hardest to lose. All pork including wild boar is high in fat. And the Dharma Initiative company, thinking their people are still alive, continue to parachute in a steady supply of rations.

6.) Q. The writers are just making this stuff up, right? A. yes, that's how fiction is created, people called writers make things up. Q. I meant, they're making it up as they go along, right? A. No. JJ Abrams and a team of writers locked themselves in an office for a year living on ramen noodles and tap water, writing seven years worth of complete scripts "on spec". I'm being sarcastic. of course they make it up as they go along. How would you do it?

7.) Q. Was Season Two a complete waste of time? A. Uh, no. there were some very entertaining episodes that year. However, it's true that most of that season focused on The Tailies and The Others. The Children and the Tailies who were taken by The Others have never been seen again and only infrequently refered to. Most of the key Tailies - Ana Lucia, Libby, Mr. Eko, wind up dying and rarely being referred to again. Many of The Others introduced that year also die and are infrequently mentioned again - although anyone can show up in a flashback at any time. In effect all of season two just existed to reunite Rose and her husband Bernard and justify her blind faith that he was still alive.

8.) Q. Are there "filler" episodes? A. Well, even the episodes without major revelations affecting the shows mysteries or overall forward momentum were usually entertaining. But, yes, in the 2nd and 3rd seasons some episodes were place savers or simply tread water. The nature of a long form dramatic television series is that you have a beginning and an end and you have to save the big finish for the conclusion of the series. If you don't know when that will be or how long the series will last, then you have to "fill" the middle of the series run. If that's what you mean by filler. Once the production company and the broadcast network reach an agreement to give the series a definite commitment of a specific number of episodes and a specific end date, then the writer can focus on telling the story and pacing it so it reaches a proper conclusion.

9.) Q. Back to basics, the premise of the series was originally that there were 48 survivors of the plane crach. So far we've only met about half of those characters? When will we meet the rest of the original Flight 815 survivors instead of all this stuff with Tailies, others, Dharma Initiative workers, Freighter sailors and people who just drop in on racing skiffs, parachutes and submarines? A. Probably never. The writers address that question in season three by introducing Dr. Arzt, Nikki and Paulo. Fans of the show who seem to only want to see stories about Jack, Kate and Sawyer complained so vociferously that those characters were quickly killed off and forgotten.

10.) Q. One last question. Do they ever stop with the flashbacks and just get on with telling the story of what happens on the island? A. Sigh. Over the course of the series you'll be amazed by how much happens on the island. But, seriously, if you didn't realize during the shows first month that it's a character driven anthology series and that the survivors back stories are what the show is all about, you really should have stopped watching then.

Networks know downloading and filesharing is a reality so they ofer alternatives. They also know if they crack down on filesharing they will lose big chunks of their auduience so they stay out of it. I've never heard anyone get nailed for TV shows. Movies and Music, Yes. I'm slightly concerned about the NFL as I put up Packer games and they can be a stingy bunch. But nothing so far.

Of course if only the Oceanic Six survive out of the original 48 Flight 815 survivors, there's probably going to be a fucking lot of violence and death coming. But in terms of the TV ratings system, since when does bloodshed and betrayal trump Katherine Heigl and Sandra Oh in a shower together? (Admittedly that was only that one episode - but it did get an Emmy nomination and I like to think that scene had something to do with it.)

gotilk, every word you typed it was like it was sucked directly from my mellon. Right through missing Art Bell. I remember listening to Dreamland ALL night on Saturday's. It would come on around bar time and I 'd a;ready be drunk, grab another beer and listen to stories (ahem, Hoegland) I KNEW were BS but were still so engaging and interesting. I still check out Hoegland's website time to time (enterprisemission.com).

Right - that was the night's before program. I have streamlink and I saw it listed...I was a day behind. For $6/mo I can listen to any of the shows, anytime, boot them down to my mp3 player, commercial free. I get my $6 worth...good jogging distraction, long drives, etc...

To the best of my knowledge the shows creators have never denied that that idea was totally stolen from "Calvin and Hobbes".

In this country, if they can prosecute you, it's either a crime or an act of terrorism. And I wouldn't go that far. To be fair, I guess I don't see a huge difference between taping a show for personal use and posting it to the Internet for the personal use of hundreds of strangers.

I'm sure having your product given away for free is great publicity. though if people can get what you're selling for free, why publicize? Still, the right to have your creativity distributed freely without being paid for it was what the writers strike was all about, right? Or did I get that backwards?

Once again the ever inventive TB - is it any coincidence his initials are the same as TalkBacker? - simultaneously quotes the comic strip sound effect for snoring with it's implications of boredom while repeatedly quoting the title of an award winning Greek political thriller that was considered Important Cinema in its time without anyone actually enjoying it. By doing this - repeatdly - he conveys a deep sense of contempt and ennui for those efforts at entertainment that fail to escape his disparagement. With the steady predictable repititon of one single letter - and always the same letter - he conveys so much feeling in a post devoid of content.

2. It is FREE TV. I'm not distributing copies of a movie or a rental from blockbuster, I only share stuff that is otherwise free.

3. There has been been some movement (ABC streaming their shows the next day) to try to hold ownership of how stuff gets distributed on the internet. You can be prosecuted for ANYTHING in this country if they can bend laws enough to make it fit. In the end, when they have tried, sharing free TV is not something they have been successful winning.

If I started charging for a site to download or downloads themselves - ABC lawyers would be on me like a pack of wolves. I don't - I share to help LOST fans enjoy the show as soon as they can and I ask nothing in return. I'm not a target, nor is anyone D/L ing a target.

Please get your facts straight before you write shit that might scare people away from filesharing.

But "FREE TV" has never been free. Broadcast Tv captured on an antenna is still paid for by making you watch nearly twenty minutes of advertising per hour of program. Cable and stuff like HBO costs money. Not free.

And I suspect there are a few writers, artists, cartoonists, musicians, poets, etc. here who have an adverse opinion of freely sharing the products of a creators talents when it's something they would otherwise be paid for. Thanx to the strike results and the new contracts, sell a DVD of Lost, the writers get paid. Legally post a streaming video online of sell it on iTunes, the writers get paid. Fileshare an episode and it's possible that not all of the people who download it sent a residual fee to the writers.

Filesharing copyrighted material isn't "sticking it to the man", it's "sticking it to the creators". But you keep doing what you do for your hundreds or thousands of friends you share with and I'll keep talking 1% shite.

In the scene where Sawyer runs to catch John and Miles to say the thing about 3 million, I think Miles knew how to get Sawyer. Probably that creepy side of him, but when explaining Ben would get the money he said Ben wants to survive. Sawyer told Kate when he went with Locke he was doing what he always did...surviving.

If the temple is that last safe place on the island as Ben told Alex it was when he gave her the map, why were they ambushed when they were nearing there? Doesn’t seem that safe an area. Ben also says if they knew Alex was his daughter, they’d use her to get to him. Think she was thinking that at the end?

“You can’t kill yourself...the island won’t let you!” So when the island “brings you there” it expects redemption. If you come to or near the island without its invitation it makes you go crazy/nuts/confused. If you leave without its blessing (remember, Ben didn’t agree with the decision to let them go) it will torment you, hurt you or allow you to hurt yourself, but it will not let you die. Until your work is done? Until you come back? Is that why Michael said he came to die? Because this was the only place he could? Because he has to complete his tasks before he’ll be allowed to die?

So the protectors on the island...are they guarding it from us or us from it?

And another thing about the island. It would seem that after you’ve been there the island is always with you. That would explain Hurley seeing Charlie, Michael seeing Libby, etc. A few religious undertones there, don’t you think?

When Tom asked Michael if the bullet bounced off his skull or did the gun jam, I think he wanted to find out the answer to that.

Tom also said they had reason to believe Widmore had found the coordinates of the island. He purchased the Black Rock journal years ago, so why does he now know where the island is? The hatch implosion?

“Your name isn’t Kevin.” I guess you don’t have to be dead for Miles to be psychic.

If Libby was the islands manifestation for it to communicate with Michael, and since Libby told Michael not to blow up the ship, it would seem the island and Ben are not on the same page.

In case anyone was wondering, the flashback was 45 minutes long.

Sayid and Michael. I’ve always thought Sayid to have sound judgment...well, most of the time. But turning Michael over doesn’t seem to be that sound. Karl was shot through the heart (I think). Danielle was not. The bullet pierced her lower and to the right. So I do not think she is dead. But she may be dying. I said it in a previous post, but it bears repeating. Next episode could be Danielle’s flashback as she lies on her deathbed.

And I really think Alex gave up Ben to save herself at the end.

Eppy 7 would have been the perfect stop point and we'd get the final 6 (numbers anyone) that would just steamroll to the end...especially now that we know that Widmore's shocktroops have lannded (or do we?) My bet is YES - Widdy is the Big Bad.

Have a buddy that JUST NOW got into Farscape - got seasons 1-4 and THe PeaceKeeper Wars. No having to wait years after D'Argo's "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" to see what happened. I was emotionally scarred from that scream, It was the ANTI- Vader in ROTS "Nooooooo". This was REAL from the fuckin loins scream I'll never forget.

Couple of oddballs on my bracket. I DID NOT see UConn, USC, and Vandy to go down already. I got 25 out of 32 games right. Not terrible, not good, but all my final 4 are still in play.

If "24' can take a year and a half off and no one ever knows for sure when the stuff on HBO is coming back, a four week gap due to a writers strike is nothing.

I was just saying that if it HAD been a season ender, "Michael on the boat with an assumed name" seemed like a stronger cliff than "Danielle might be dead".

Ed, as someone above said, "Gracias Autonomy" gets bigger ratings than "Lost" and double featuring them IS doing "Lost" a favor by providing it with a strong lead in, not, as you say, "b*tch slapping it" around. And for reasons I've already stated here, I think there are strong reasons why they should be switched with the evening soap opera in the adult time slot and the fantasy show airing earlier. It's a strong double feature either way, but I still don't think I'll be adding "Miss Guided" to my "must see" list.

And doing a block of six would have connected with the Numbers, but I think they gave up on that when they decided not to end the series with episode 108.

If Grey's is the higher rated show and provides a solid lead-in for Lost, how is that supposed to not be good for Lost or...[scrolls up to get quote right} "hurts Lost"? Solid lead-ins are a good way to build a receptive audience. "Grey's..." became a hit by following that thing with the housewives, which did the same to put Boston Legal on the charts.

I know sci-fi fantasy fandom is split to the point where some Lost fans mock the "shippers" - people most interested in the romantic relationships on the show, such as the Jack Kate Sawyer triangle. Or Charlie Claire or, for the incest fans, Shannon Boone. Or Rose Bernard. Even the icky Ben crush on Juliet. Hurley Libby. Jack/ex-wife. Sun Jin. Sayid's lost love. Desmond Penny. And so on. Sure, there's sci-fi/fantasy/adventure and character driven drama, but face it, "Lost" also has a fair amount of soap opera suds. If ABC runs promos stressing that angle before and during "Grey's" they're going to hold onto some of that carry-over audience. And a solid block is mutually beneficial, no doubt. There will probably be a few people who wind up catching Grey's just because it's "the show on before Lost". Maybe just the last few minutes at first, then a whole episode, and if they like what they see, they might become regular viewers. (And if they don't they'll come here to b*tch about it.)

The "Grey's/Lost" pairing will be good for both shows, with Lost standing to benefit the most. It's not going to "hurt" it.

And whether you focus on the mature relationships or the coming violence and slaughter that may leave the island with six survivors plus Ben (Shown in flash forward to have survived but clearly NOT one of the Oceanic Six). in spite of my japes to the contrary, "Lost" is clearly NOT a children's fantasy show. No sleestaks on us.

I'm trying to think of what about airing at 10:00 might actually "hurt" lost, but any young people who have to be in bed by ten on a school night probably aren't the shows key demographic anyway.

So sorry, Ed, you may say you agree with me in your topic line, but when you suggest that having "Lost" in the adult time slot following a strong lead in will somehow "hurt" the show, either I don't follow your thinking or I simply can't agree.

If the network asked me, I would have preferred it if they left Lost on Wednesday nights for the entire run of the series. However, the old Hill Street Blues time slot is one of the best and most prestigious cradles on TV.

I just mention this because calling the people from The Freighter "The freighters" just isn;t working for me, and I've noticed a few people here doing it already.

I'm not even going to suggest a term, just ask for someone or a few people to please suggest one that we can get behind. Not "the boat people." We may also need a term to differentiate Miles and the rest of the research team from the rest of the people on The Freighter.

also since the last episode, I think the most logical nick name for the researchers are the science team (or whatever Naomi) said...the group who really needs a nick name is the people off the island in the real world...maybe the real worldies?

But here's another good thing about Lost moving to 10:00 pm est.: No more of those goddam 62 minute episodes. You realize how many people with TiVo have to record Eli Stone just to keep the last few minutes of Lost from getting cut off? Well, neither do I, but at least one that I know of. (No, not me - I'm still in the VCR era.)

* I thought the reasons we couldn't see Walt were slightly sloppy and transparent writing. Something about Walt being so upset that his dad killed two women. Walt never even met them. I'm not sure how a ten year old would react to that but it seemed just a little contrived.

* I'm also disappointed that Michael so easily believed Tom and Ben's information. Shouldn't he know not to trust those guys? If Michael feels bad now wait until he realizes he killed a freighter full of innocent people.

* Did anyone notice the Christmas tree in the background when Michael was in the hospital? We know it was Christmas a couple days ago. I guess the timing works out if Michael was in the hospital in early December. It's interesting.

* I wouldn't be terribley disappointed if Danielle is dead. It sounds like a lot of people want her flashback, but I don't see how that would reveal anything interesting. We pretty much know everything about her. Only point of confusion is the "sickness" her crew experienced.

* I'm not disappointed Sayid turned Michael in. Seems like fine judgement to me. I would have done the same thing. Think about it. Sayid knows Michael is working for Ben to sabotage the freigter. Sayid doesn't want that right?

* I'm going to have to apologize to all the talkbackers that I made fun of for going on about their Tom is gay theories back in the season 3 premiere. I thought they were reading too much into Tom's statement to Kate, but it looks like I was wrong.

I probably look at all the day/time switches LOST has had to endure and I interpret it as a sign of disrespect. I realize that isn't always the case. But does it not seem like ABC has almost gone out of their way to shuffle LOST around and frustrate viewers? Just because it feels that way does not make it true. But damn I'm frustrated - that with the level this show is at (writing, production quality, actors, mythology/Lost related online tie-ins) that they do not do EVERYTHING they can to draw in the watchers...cause once they get hooked into the mythology, they got you. (IMHO)

Boy Brighteyes, I sure hope that is not true. I would really feel terrible if I was responsible for playing any part in the nastiness we've seen. Though even in Sam and I's arguement we never once resorted to name-calling or personal attacks. It was heated, but just some verbal sparring, raising our voices, but no hands, if you know what I mean. I would say some of this other stuff is a far cry from the tone of our Tb arguement.

I very much would have liked ABC to leave Grey's double featured with Housewives on Sunday.

You understand that the reason Thursday is such an important night for network Tv is that it brings in huge ad revenues, being the "last chance" for the film studios to hype movies that open on Friday. That's why steady performers (Smallboy, CSI, ER) grow roots on the night and the other nets try to counter-program by shifting their best shows there.

It was a gamble for ABC to move "Grey's" to Thurday at nine and toss it up against CSI, which continues to clock in as TV's top rated hour for some reason. Do the people who would hate to see "Lost" canceled before the whole story plays out really want to toss it up opposite TV's #1 show? Oddly, networks don't seem to care if there's no real overlap of demographics, they just look at the numbers and the high score wins.

And contrary to popular opinion, networks aren;t really out to screw their moneymakers. Sure, they shift shows they want to cancel to Fridays, a grave shift where nothing gets X-Files numbers any more.

Take Fox for example. Fans hated them when they canceled the cult fave sit-com Arrested Development, but the fact was, Fox kept that show on the air for four years when it NEVER got decent ratings in any time slot.

After a sophomore slump and the unsatisfying six part mini-season, "Lost" was this far from being a bubble shoe a year ago, but ABC worked out a deal that guaranteed the show would stay on the air long enough to tell the story, tie the loose ends, and have a firm end date. So the strike cost us a couple of episodes, what he have had this season so far has been lean and tight and forward moving.

Oh, while I said it makes sense to put together similarly themed shows, having "Lost" as a lead in didn;t help the quite good and continuously improving "Invasion". And there's such a thing as too much of a sameness. You think "Grey's" fans would be switching in drives to also watch "ER" and Fox would move "House" to Thursdays at eight to make it a medical drama triple feature, but it doesn;t always work like that.

Ed, with everyone here using pseudonyms, I never noticed that the entire Lost talk-back is an all-male fanboy central. The "Heroes" talkbacks usually get a number of female comments - or maybe it's just that Ororo Monroe is so vocal it just seems that way.

Still, if you read the "Lost" articles in the cheap media (TV Guide, EW) and online, there do seem to be a lot of "shippers" more interested in the love triangles and dramatic/romantic back stories on "Lost" than on the electromagnetic nanobot time travel theories.

Lost may be a closed market - that is, at this stage the back story may be so complex and hard to understand for a newbie that it may be beyond picking up any new viewers. So I wouldn;t guarantee that many "Grey's" fans will stick around to boost "Lost" ratings. But that does seem to be what ABC is gambling on.

Seriously, Jennifer Carpenter's potty mouth is one of the sexiest (and funniest) parts of the show. And uncut doesn't = gore. No, not at all. YOu just need it ALL, trust me.

I sat there for 4 days, every spare second I had through the weekend I watched back to back to back...I couldn't stop. Just awesome. Great overlapping ark with nice stand-alone eps.

I am reading the book that is the basis for Season One. Great read as well. Looking forward to reading the next two 0 I guess they have little to do with the TV version.

The one egregious offense was a censored bit where a black cop called someone a "motherlover". that was pretty sad.

i don;t know what your situation is, will it be on a broadcast network (will you be getting something trimmed similar to the CBS series?) or a pay channel (offering the uncut Showtime version?)

Never having seen the original version I guess I don't know what I'm missing, but the CBS edit strikes me as just fine.

If you're even considering watching it you probably alrready know that it is a very dark series about an amoral and emotionless police forensics expert (specializing in blood splatter) who is also a serial killer who channels his murderous impulses by specifically targeting other serial killers.

He is also oddly asexual, in a relationship while trying to keep his girlfriend at arms length - though in one recent episode he does seem to have consumated the relationship.

The narrative, in which he describes his inner thoughts about trying to "pass for normal" lend the dark proceedings a comedic touch at times.

Risking offending the "Lost" fans, I'd say that Dexter is currently certainly one of the best written dramas on broadcast television - very close to being THE best.

One of the major positives is the pacing: it was not cut to beats and five to ten minute segments to fit around commercials, which gives is a slightly more theatrical feel than the average TV series.

And to be fair, one negative comment: I was a bit surprised when they introduced the "Ice Cream Truck Killer" as an ongoing sub-plot. Each episode has a self contained story, but then there's an ongoing sub-plot about this Ice CReam Truck Killer playing cat and mouse with Dexter.

The series has my recommendation and endorsement. But that's based on seeing part of the first season only. Maybe some Showtime customers here can tell you if the series has long term legs.

rb..yes we did play the gig mate and got a really good review in our wee local paper for it, ended up raising £3000 which is near $6000 or so for a charity by doing it...also banged a fucking stunner after it due to being in the band...good times all round

Yes it has legs. Some were disappointed in the second season - but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Dex's "shock value" has been minimized by season two and he begins to show some emotion. And we definately find out he is NOT asexual thanks to a new character. I didn't care much for the NA subplot, but I understand why it was used. Treating his "impulses" as an addiction - working the 12 steps to stop killing, kinda leaves you wanting him to KILL! Is THAT not twisted? I should be using "I" statements - maybe you won't feel that way.

Anyway MP, as damaged as Dexter is, I personally connected to and am extremely interested in his character. Dexter has me really drawn in. I can't remember the last time a character did that to me.

You MUST get the uncut Showtime version, however.

Napoleon Park: I am currently getting a version of it on one of the most commercial channels on British television (ITV), so im doubting that it is the uncut version...we have a great wee channel over here imaginatively titles channel 4, adn Lost started its life there before teh big sky tv company bought it, and Soprano's was on there and uncut, just a shame they dont have Dexter then u could be assured of the uncut version..

Last night I dreamt that I was stuck on an island with Harry Knowles. Somehow we had an X-Box 360 and I TOTALLY demolished Harry Knowles at Halo. Unfortunately he got so pissed off that he turned into the smoke monster and chased me around the island and up the statue.

I was pissing myself in fear.

And by "the Island" I mean whatever mystical force/Jacob whathave you that is in action on the island/thru the island etc...

It suprised me that the Island could still yield power over those that left. But that bit of info from Tom (the Island won't let you die) means guys like Locke (shot in the gut, missing kidney or no, should have been fatal through blood or infection you would think). Sawyer recovered from his gunshot to the shoulder - but look how sick he got in comparison to Locke, who was up tossing knives into backs in hours...Sawyer was close to death, needed anti biotics and doctoring. Mikhail's rapid healing...shit, a harpoon to the fucking heart?? Yet he swims out to the porthole just to ensure CHaaaalie's death (which was fortold...meaning maybe this was Mikhail's and Charlie's final act...and then they both can die according to the Island).

I don't know - but there seems to be some selection as to the Island's mystical healing abilities (didn't help Naomi, Shannon, and others). It decided it was Eko's time..didn't get him the 1st time, just took snapshots...but the 2nd time? CYA. The Spiders=Monster? Means it chose Paolo ans Nikki's time as well. Actually, fans called the Island and TOLD it that it was Paolo and Nikki's time.

I'm sure you guys can think of tons of other examples where the island has chosen the fate of characters - either to keep them alive or to die.

BSG - for this LOST hiatus, April 24th - Episode 9.

Farscape - for the LOOOOOng Off season, May 22 until January.

Only part of the last post that made sense - Farscape the best TV sciFi ever put out...IMHO. I forever have a love for that show. Hard to fight sentimentality. Even with the muppets, the writing is dark and superior to anything on SciFi until BSG came along. They are a close 1 - 2 in my book. With a love for Claudia Black and Gigi Edgly in tight leather giving Farscape extra points. That and an honest to good funny hero in Crichton.

But Charlie wasn't ON the island. {Of course neither was Michael and neither will Jack be when their attempts fail - but they were trying to off themselves for selfish reasons - to make their pain end - while Charlie died nobley to try to save the others. And, darn this Lost-speak, by "others" I mean the Losties. I doubt anyone would make any sacrifice to save the Others - or that they need saving, except from Ben.)

Suicide, on the other hand, is a totally SELFISH act, a deed done only to remove oneself from life, despite the despair it will cause friends and family.

"Monk" is about an obsessive/compulsive neat freak homicide detective with a neurotic obsessio with hygeine and cleanliness - which, as you can imagine, makes it hard for him to examine crime scenes. "Psych" is about a police detective who cons people into thinking he has psychic abilities - although he doesn't. When spelled out to a simple high concept it's hard to understand how either series ever got green lit let alone survived more than a 13 ep buy, and yet there they are, both into multiple seasons. There must be somethng charming about the writing, I guess. I imagine others here with more familiarity with those series will expand on those comments.

Paul - that's right, Naomi is another example of hw the island is dictating who lives and dies. MKJ shows us the island has power off the island as well with the control it has on Michael.

And like I said, once Michael completes his purpose, he will either by smokie's influece, or his own volition, hang from those rafters in a LA loft.

There are so many eps in both these series where I just sat there for several minutes after it ended going, "That was so cool" or "No, they can't do that" or "Unbelievable" or Just, "HOLY FUCKIN SHIT!!!". Dexter did that for me. Lost does that for me. BSG does and Farscape and Angel did. On a really good day, Buffy TVS did too when the writing was spot on (Confessions with Dead People). So little TV can do that. So good luck to you Jack - I envy you - especially if you make the absolutely RIGHT CHOICE by choosing Farscape ;>} (bias)

I'm a sucker for a tearjerker but I swear every first season episode of that series made me both laugh and cry. And the first season cliffhanger actually makes a perfect, if downbeat, series ending.

(The second season, by contrast, spent the last few episodes reformatting the series to send it in a new direction - and was then canceled.

I also enjoyed the first season of "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda". It's not classic - sort of "Star Trek Lite" with some interesting tweaks. But very enjoyable. And the season one cliffhanger (SPOILER everyone is dead or dying and the ship is being destroyed) serves as an excellent and very dark ending for the series, which totally Jumped the Shark [tm] after that, as the series was reformatted to serve as a Kevin Sorbo star vehicle that downplayed the rest of the cast.

Enough with the Skywalker-bashing! Get over it! Why bother getting so personal over some fucking pixels on your screen - what's the fucking POINT hurling abuse at them???

I think some people are not quite comprehending what is presented properly. It's not that that island stops you from dying - it's all about the COURSE CORRECTION. Once again, I hark back to Desmond wanting to marry Penny and Ms Hawking telling him not to bother because it just AINT GONNA HAPPEN...

But if you have some sort of significant role to play then there is simply no way you can avoid fulfilling that role - not even DEATH will do you part from that task. Someone above (Napolean?) actually posted a good theory about time travel - that the universe simply doesn't allow paradoxes - so you can go back in time and try to kill your grandfather, but it's NEVER GONNA HAPPEN, no matter how hard you try. I think, actually that may have featured in a PKD story?

Anyway, that's why Michael couldn't die yet - for the same reason Desmond couldn't marry Penny and why Charlie couldn't live - in fact, it's also a good reason why Mikhail cheated death so often.

Point being - just like it looked like Locke bought the big one and then it turned out he couldn't die because he "had work to do" (did Tom use those same words to Michael?) so will it turn out Rousseau still has a role to play.

And yes Ben TOTALLY set them up - and yes I couldn't quite figure out why she went along with him instead of just slugging him when he suggested Alex is his daughter? We just saw in the Juliet FB how he likes to put certain people in danger and neatly wash his hands of "guilt" for their deaths.

He points out he didn't ask Michael to kill those people - sure he put him in the position of not really having any choice in the matter, but he didn't actually ORDER it...

Is THIS how he justifies being "good"??

Look at it from his perspective - he hasn't been told The Wid faked the plane in the sea - he's been told The Wid owns the boat and is searching for the Truth and nobody knows who planted the fake. Remember what he used to do for a living - finding out the Truth is important to him. MORE IMPORTANTLY the dickhead fuckded the ENGINES - on BEN'S orders! How would YOU feel if the boat that was to be your SALVATION from this shitty island was SABOTAGED by the same creep that has killed your people and consistently lied about EVERYTHING etc... Long before your time the FCC was alarmed over the violence on "the Untouchables" and "Combat" and declared 7:00-9:00 to be "family hour", a period to air only shows that could be watched by minors. This has long become obsolete, of course. Still, "Lost" debuted in the kid-friendly 8:00 Wednesday time slot and within the first few minutes had a guy sucked into a jet engine and shredded into a fine spray, and the implied image of Kate sewing up a gash in Jack's back with a needle and thread. In the CSI/House/Grey's/Bones era of explicit gore we're lucky they didn't make us watch, but the imagination probably made it even worse for some squeamish viewers. "Lost" was eventually shifted to the 9:00 time slot and allowed to deal with slightly more mature subjects in a more appropriate time slot.

Thursday is the most important night of the week for advertisers. Not that everyone decides which movie to see or what new car to buy at the last minute, but Thursday is the night before the new movies open and it's assumed shoppers will be out shopping by Friday night. So Thursday is when networks want their strongest and highest rated shows - being moved to Thursday, as "Lost" was this year, should be seen as a vote of confidence.

Earlier this year the FCC charged ABC with obscenity over a five year old episode of NYPD Blue. It was one of the series best ever nude scenes. And it's hard to defend: it had lingering rear and side full nude views that pandered in a way that many thought obsolete after the decline of '70s hard-R rated sexploitation flicks. Worse, it dealt with an adult fully exposed to a minor, which came fairly close to meeting the technical definition of child porn. But the main reason this episode was targeted is because you can say and show things AFTER 10:00 that you can't before it. NYPD Blue was always a 10:00 show but for that episode it aired at 9:00 - that's why it got in trouble.

Now reverse engineer that thought. You can have mild semi-nudity and some mild vulgarity on even network broadcast television AFTER 10:00. Everyone freaking out about "Lost" being "shuffled off" to the 10:00 time slot, take a deep breath and think about that. Locke can call Ben a little shit. Sawyer can talk dirty to Kate. And, obviously, more important, you can see Claire from behind in a shower, or catch a side glimpse of Sun skinny-dipping, or see some of those Juliet side-cans everyone seems to be raving about. Harsher language and discreet nudity and more adult content - is that what you kids are complaining about? Isn't that worth staying up an extra hour on a school night for?

While I've never been a LA Law or ER fan, Hill Street Blues was once televisions best hour. The 10:00 PM Thursday slot is a prestige position. "Lost" fans should be proud to have their fave show in that slot.

ABC has not been jerking "Lost" all over the schedule. Though they did mess with it with the constant pre-empts, delays and reruns during season two. But they've addressed and corrected that problem. "Lost" debuted in the Wednesday 8:00 slot, shifted to the more appropriate 9:00, then moved to the more important night, Thursday, and now is being given the more adult time slot at 10:00 on Thursdays. That's only three time slot/day moves in four years and like a clearly thought out game of chess each move has given the show a better and more advantageous position. Each of those moves could be seen as a promotion for the series, so what's the problem?

Anyhow, do you think it was the freighties with the sniper rifles?

One thing that bugged me about this Temple deal - so Locke took them back the camp because it's "safe" right? I mean isn't it behind a Sonic Fence? Not that there's been any stopping people from coming and going... Just that it seems tactically, he's sending these people from somewhere maybe not quite fortified but still defendable and relatively safe -out into the fucking JUNGLE to go look for some place none of them have ever seen before? OK maybe Rousseau knows the place but still...

Oh, that reminds me - was the Temple something to do with the place with the door-to-nowhere that Michael led Sayid and Jin and Sun at the end of S2 - near the 4-toed statue?

Is there some sort of trick to that place where the door leads to "the Temple" and then you flick a switch and the door leads to.. a brick wall?

I finally went and checked out your "Naomi's butt-crack" link. Very moving for a few square inches of skin. But what makes the picture classic is the subliminal effect of all the signs: "restricted area, caution, no smoking."

I gotta say I loved greenstyle92's post earlier about both "Supreme Chancellor Benpatine" and "Jedi Master Mace Widmore" asking for help in destroying the other - totally resonates with my post a couple of weeks ago (or was it only just last week??) about Ben being like a certain other character who convinced people to give him a whole clone army because he was "one of the good guys" and needed to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons... or something like that...

I like the theory that the Island is basically a form of V.A.L.I.S., it makes sense, as long as it's future tech and not alien. It would be nice to keep it away from the alien end of sci-fi, since they've already established time travel as a premise. Also, it would keep the Lost mythos firmly planted in sci-fi, without wandering into religious territory.
