The best ever animated Batman um...returns.

This is the best news I've heard all day. Kevin Conroy is the voice of Batman. I wouldn't even complain if they dubbed him over Christian Bale when he's in the suit in the new movie.

Although I wish HOllywood would lay off the anime-style for influences... it really flies in the face of the variable talent with something as deep and intricate as Batman. I know that ALL anime doesn't look the same, but considering that's the 'look' they were going for...well, you know...

I'm with you here, I think DKR (not unlike Gotham by gaslight)would be much more suited to an anime form rather than the big screen version Frank Miller hopes to direct someday. And I for one, hope they'll keep the Cold War setting and pray for Watchmen to be a hit so the "period" comic flicks will have their chance. I still can't believe they opted for a modern-day Iron Man while the Cold War contained everything the movie needed (great arcs and villains, historical "awareness", cool atmosphere)... except the audience-friendly appeal... Too bad.

Believe it guys. This forum is visited by all the suits in Hollywood and one of the guys at Warners was listening. Yes, Kevin Conroy IS Batman and his voice, to me goes beyond the animated series. It's there when I'm reading the comics or reading a novel about Batman. I think that all subsequent Batman projects that involve voice work should have Mr. Conroy playing Batman.

They must not cancel that DVD movie! They so need to make it so that it erases the memory of the anime-style version (if you don't know, it's not going to be in the same style as the recent Cartoon Network show). Also, this is very old news about Conroy voicing Batman, but hey, I guess better late than never. What is with this site and "new" news?

I was kinda hoping each Segment would recast. Kevin would sound great in that Vs. Deadshot short, but will it be good coming out of that girly looking Bruce Wayne in the other one?

Bale is a perfect Bruce Wayne but his Bats voice is a bit off....the whole "WHERE WERE THE OTHER DRUGS GOING!!" thing came off a bit silly (not dissing the flick but at the time I was like "whaa?")...however had it been Conroys voice that would have been class....best Bats interrogation scene is still in Mask Of The Phantasm when he's questioning a Jokerised Artie Reeves "why did the Joker meet with you? its something to do with the gang murders-HE THINKS YOUR INVOLVED! WHY?"...gives me chills thinking about it man....although it might be weird hearing the voice coming out of a different toon Bats but I aint gonna complain

He's the best ACTOR ever to play the role. Better than Adam West or Michael Keaton or yes, even Christian Bale. Dont believe me? But at the risk of being burned at the stake for blasphemy, I never watched TAS until a few years ago... and I found it amazingly BORING. Yep, I said it -- it was surprisingly dull. Only saw a few episodes of the first season, was amazed at how little I liked it, and gave up on it. Maybe if I'd been 8-10 years old when it first aired, I would've loved it, but this frothing at the mouth over Kevin Conroy is just... bizarre. (And suggesting they dub over Christian Bale's voice with Conroy's is fanboy idiocy to the tenth power.)

The first, meh, handful of episodes of BTAS were kind of lacking. But once you get to about, eh, the third disc of the first DVD set, It's brilliant. There. That's all I can say to offer you olive Branch. Because BTAS is just so obviously the best Batman ever, that blows everything, including Begins, out of the water.

I'll give it another shot, because I *wanted* to like it, but I really found it lacking. (And again, I can't help but feel that the majority of hype over it is from guys who grew up on the cartoon during the original airings, so they'll always kinda-sorta worship it... much like I do with the original Space Ghost, The Herculoids and Johnny Quest.)

Season 1 BTAS voice (and best interrogation)
by JasonPratt
Mar 20th, 2008
07:49:05 AM
It should be noted that it took Conroy some time to develop and grow into The Voice. The first season of BTAS is rather meh in that regard; and honestly it happened so slowly that I'm not sure when I would say he finally reached it. Within continuity (as much as BTAS has any), it can be explained as Batman/Wayne being a much younger (and frankly even kinda paunchy!) man. He makes more mistakes in those eps, too, and isn't nearly as über-competent as he comes to be later. Much like Conroy doing the voice acting, the character sort of grows into the Timm/Diniverse Batman most all of us know and love. (However, trying to figure out some kind of ad hoc continuity for BTAS is a migraine inducing project. {g} Not that I haven't done it, but I don't have it posted anywhere; and other people's attempts are likely to vary. It's like trying to come up with the best chronology to the _Prisoner_ series--obviously some eps take place before and after other eps, but aside from that one has to work with subtle and far more debatable thematic clues.) *** Oh, and for best Conroy-Bats interrogation, I vote the episode of Justice League where he prepares to break the little Eastern European ninja-terrorist-wannabe in Part 1 of _Maid of Honor_: "I can. And you will..." {gggg!} (I would have voted for his interrogation of Ghoul in Part 2 of JLU's "Once and Future Thing" but we only see the rampup to it. "Hurry up. My arm is getting tired." "I can't believe I was _ever_ that green. *whap* _This_ is how you interrogate someone...")

was incredible for its time. It certainly produced atleast a handful of classic episodes. However, I am not sure how the series would hold up now. That is not to say current animated shows have surpassed it (quite the opposite, they seem to have regressed). It is more a commentary on its age, most of us saw the show when we were kids, thus its impact was tremendous. I have been waiting for a mature Batman Animated title for quite a while, i wonder if this will fulfill that destiny. Is the animation based abroad, I am assuming it must be. Its sad the US doesn't possess the expertise to animate their own shows to the quality they want. I feel an american animation aesthetic would suit batman better than Anime does. However, the state of American 2D animation is too meager to handle detailed and intricate animation. I just hope the style isn't too Jading and too obviously Japanime, the Batman is afterall, a western property not a Japanese one.
Thats some badass news.
