Hmmm, even younger?! Like what? Highschool?! Or are we talking about the Marine who goes down in that chopper accident and has to do his fourth year from a hospital bed aged-Ryan? Cause I can't imagine the character (which seems to have run its cinematic course) doing anything significant at such a young age unless Raimi were to retcon the whole thing. Seems like a silly idea all around.

Spider-Man 3 is one of the worst comic book films ever made. Silly, smirking, terribly written, it's up there with Batman and Robin. The ridiculously campy dance scene alone looks like something that John Waters would do, but less funny than Waters. Not to mention the hack job they did on Venom. It's a terrible film and thank God Raimi is off hte series.

I think Ted Raimi was in Patriot Games as young analyst... he was the one that found the "boobs". Not sure about his brother continuing series though. After a great start with McTiernan's Hunt for Red October they never really got back on track. Even the reboot was shakey due to Affleck's take on Ryan. Osmosis Jones is right there should be a law about rebooting a reboot in lass than a decade. And BTW, why do they want to make Jack Ryan even younger?! The character needs some life experience... late 30's/early 40's works best.

quite a good amount of quality films. "A Simple Plan", "The Gift", the first "Darkman". "Spider-Man 3" wasn't the movie it would've been had Avi Arad and the producers leaned on him and forced Venom into the picture because of the fanboy whining. The guy trips up once and you motherfuckers act like he's a horrible filmmaker. Act like you've got some goddamned sense. Through playing with you all.

about reboots should be applied and strictly enforced by some sorta of super-powerful robot police force. Sigh, if only. But seriously Paramount, no one really gives a shit about Jack Ryan anymore, and they most definetly don't give a flying fuck about "a younger Ryan than Ben Afleck." and Raimi?? for something like? Did someone at Paramount get plastered for St. Patty's and think that this is a good idea? What the fuck.

Dear Paramount: FUCK YOU and YOUNGER STARS
by Big Dumb Ape
Mar 19th, 2008
02:26:35 AM
I swear I hope this shits beyond all toilet flushes imaginable. Seriously, why the fuck is everything always "younger, younger, younger" as opposed to doing things even just a teeny tiny bit realistic and slightly with brains and a bit mature for actual adults? As others have noted, Jack Ryan isn't Bruce Wayne...he's not supposed to be some glamour boy in fabulous shape because he's literally out fighting crime each night...he's a fucking THINKING MAN and desk jockey for the most part.

You know, I understand that Hollywood loves to cater to its glorious teen demographic group, but here's a tip for you, Paramount (and all other studios): they're NOT the only ones who go to the movies -- not even genre films. And now you're just pissing off the rest of us to the point that we just DON'T care anymore.

In the months or coming year ahead, as more and more shitty movies and TV shows fail, I'm sure Hollywood is going to blame their ever-declining audiences and profits on the writers strike or anything it can lay its hands on RATHER THAN actually looking at itself and its product and the way it casts things totally half-assed (like this), and thus the way these movies and shows now drive AWAY actual adults who used to love going to the movies or watching TV, but Hollywood decided that unless you're a pimple-faced high school teenager or a hip, cool 20-something that looks like you literally came off the latest lame-ass CW TV show then there's no reason to make anything for you.

So like I said, I hope Paramount gambles BIG on this and ramps up the budget to $150-200 million figuring this is EXACTLY how you relaunch a franchise, at which point it shits like never before and they lose their shirts. Maybe that's what it will take -- more and more gigantic clusterfucks for these Hollywood suits to wake up and realize they are creatively bankrupt and they really do have NO idea what a "good" movie or TV show is...

Therefore the Character is now dead, would it not bve more interesting to make a movie of the later books after Clear and present danger and get Harrison Ford back, like when he becomes President of the US of A holes?

I suppose Young Jack Ryan will be a spy or some sort of action type dude, it alwasy amazes me when some studio exec reckons they can write a better story than a book author has already had published and sold millions of books for. What does Sam Raimi know about writing?

Spiderman is a terrible film, Spiderman 2 showed a glimmmer fo hope for franchise and Spiderman 3 killed it, what a stinker of a movie that was, I love superhero movies and I will probably never watch a Spiderman film ever again, even though he is my favourite superhero. Maybe in 20 years time they will relaunch the franchise like they did with Batman and someone decent will be given a shot.

(Word fo advice to whoever that is...Dont kill off the bad characters at the ened of each movie, thats not what Spiderman is all about, there were alwasy laods fo villains he had to deal with, somtimes doing completely different things at the same time, thats why the Black suit was so important in the comics it allowed him to deafeta them all more easily it was tempting, unlike in the film, where it amkes him decide to walk like John Travolta and dance like Fred Astaire. Raimia is a terribel director obviously IMO, how can you fuck up Spiderman (Give it to Sam Raimi)

sounds like a pretty awful idea to me

I guess EVIL DEAD 4 is just never going to happen. Soon Bruce won't be able to throw himself to the floor, Stooges style, and Raimi will have directed more losers than winners (FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME and SPIDER MAN 3 and counting), thus, further getting caught up in Hollywood films and removing himself from the independent, low budget, personal films that made himself who he is. Sigh. Too bad. Ten years ago, Raimi was my favorite working director. Now I'm not even sure if he's in my top ten. I'm not going doom this film series from the get-go, but does anybody really want to see Sam Raimi direct a Jack Ryan series?!?!?

Clancy has run out of ideas with Jack Ryan after he made him president, so he is making him younger and putting him in harm's way so he can shit out more 1000 page books.

Any studio that has balls would make "Debt of Honor" about a pilot that crashes a plane into the Capitol (Clancy wrote it 7 years before 9/11). This would be the perfect opportunity to cast Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan again.

Guy can't write a coherent sentence, but man can he weave a plot. There are still a few "younger" unproduced Ryan novels, but what they should do IMHO is boot up the Debt of Honor / Executive Orders story. That would be fun cinema, but it would absolutely have to be Harrison Ford.

But, I know that won't sell to today's slackjawed moro...I mean audiences, so it'll be moved to now with a top 40 soundtrack.
