I have missed ninja movies since the older films like Enter the Ninja, Revenge of the Ninja, etc. They tended to be cheesey and some produced by Golan-Globus, but they still kicked ass. I loved them as a kid and would love to see a big budget take on the ninja.

Why in the world would they have any reason to use a puppet director or "pseudonym"? V for Vendetta got a lot more love than their last two Matrix films - why wouldn't they want to take credit for it if they really directed it?

They didn't know it was going to be big beforehand! Plus pseudonyms are often successful (See Stephen King's, others) -- they are usually just experiments in style or deviations from public perception.

An oxymoron
by tk 421
Mar 18th, 2008
03:49:10 PM
Is traditionally defined as a figure of speech that combines two contradictory terms. So things like Christian Science, Free Speech Zone, Microsoft Works or Deafening Silence would constitute an oxymoron. The word ninja and the word assassin are not contradictory terms. It may be repetitive since ninjas are assassins. All ninjas are assassins while not all assassins are ninjas.

Coz as nifty as the fights in The Matrix may have looked, they really know dick about the flow of a martial arts fight scene. then again, most of Luc Besson's ventures suffer from the same problem as well. They figure as long as people are doing "kicks and shit" they're doing a bang-up job.

In the case of The Wachowski's there's no excuse, but in other cases I dunno if it comes down to director's incompetence or just studio notes wanting it edited down to a nice snack-size sequence. But either way, if you're unable to tell a story beyond "protagonist kicks ass" or "antagonist kicks ass, but then protagonist kicks ass more all of a sudden" within a martial arts scene it's generally a pretty piss poor effort.

[Praying] Please, Lord, PLEASE let the technically gifted but creatively soulless Wachowski brothers do just that ... please, please leave off your regular duties (making sure particular sports teams win, watching innocents die, sh*t like that) and convince the Wachowskis to nick every good idea lock, stock and barrel from NINJA SCROLL, which is just a cartoon but it kicks so much ass. Thanks, Lord.

Oh, and Lord? One more ... since the Bros. definitely enjoy ripping off anime, please let them decide to do nothing except kickass live-action adaptations of existing anime films. For the rest of their lives. That would be an efficient use of their peculiar "talents." That's not a crowd-pleasing prayer, that one's just for me. That OK Lord?

Say what you will about the matrix reloaded, but the chateau fight scene is the most well filmed fight scene. EVER. There has not been a fight scene that choreography aside has been as well framed, lit, edited. The way the music is written and is synced so perfectly at the right beats is outstanding, it flows so goddamned incredibly. I watch that fight scene again and again and again, it's a mini movie in itself. A Masterpiece. Look at that, someone objective.

Okay, look, I think we can all agree that Revolutions was pee wash. But, Reloaded wasn't terrible (the highway scene with Trinity still causes me tiny nerdgasms) and V for Vendetta was fricking awesome! If you haven't seen it cause you're afraid that it will suck because of close relations with the Wachowski's, see it, it's great. Meantime, I'll go see Speed Racer (it can't be any worse than the new DBZ movie), and I'll go see this one. I mean, it's ninjas. How can they mess that up? Also, as far as Rain goes, I mean, the guy is hot, but he's not really the first person I think of when I hear bad-ass ninja. Just putting that out there.

10:19:22 AM
You stupid bitches better recognize it's greatness! And to update your reading comprehension, Chou said that Ninja Assassins probably isn't the final title, it's probably just a working/shooting title like Burly man or Rorry's first kiss or something... But even if it was, the title would depend on the approach they take with this movie... If it's a fun ninja actionfest then the blatant straightforward title may very well work to its advantage! See? You people need to think a little before running off at the mouth to comment on films you know nothing about or haven't even seen yet, and that's also why you're too stupid to appreciate the matrix sequels. Bad fight coreography in the Matrix? You idiots do realize the revered Yuen Woo Ping was behind most of that right? Hate the Matrix all you want but the fight scenes are head and shoulders above pretty much everything in live action cinema!
