Aside from that, you are correct that We Are Marshall was a fluke. But as the old saying goes: the sun even shines on dog's ass every once in a while.

You want to bitch and moan at someone, how about Pegg, Stevenson and Wright who were so quick and happy to sign that they sold it all off in the first place? Or, if they were happy to do so at the time (which I imagine they were) how about for being ungrateful prats given that this is the show that not only helped get them into the positions they are today, but also helped set them on a path that made them all quite rich, and gave them widespread fame, so it's not like the show, that they sold, hasn't already paid them back in that regard. No, they have their fame and their successful careers, and now they want even more money as well, as if the network that funded their show and gave them their biggest opportunity should be grateful to them rather than the other way around.

Fact is, people don't bitch for the writers or director or stars of an older movie to get paid and be involved when hollywood remakes a film of theirs, nor when an old tv show gets turned into a movie, but here there's an outcry simply becuase these guys are popular with the geek fanbase, and because they've been adopted by said fans as "one of us" (well, okay, three of us). But if that wasn't the case, if these were just your ordinary everyday folks who voluntarily signed a contract that caused them to miss out on more money down the track then no one would give a flying fuck. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Well, that's my view anyway, and now the Pegg/Wright/ Stevenson/Spaced devotees can rip into me with a variety of swearwords and insults ad nauseum, as I'm sure they will...

I'm a voice in the wind, I realize. Unimportant. Not worth considering in larger production issues. But I was willing to give McG a break on his role in T4, though three films instead of one seems stupid and fan-boyish instead of well-planned. I'm hoping he gives credit to, or at least seeks the advice of people who worked on other Terminator films.

To suggest that my legions of fans who love and adore both the stage productions of The Odd Couple as well as the television program that was based upon it - To suggest that they would embrace Spaced without having any input or insights or contributions from me is rather presumptive and pays little respect to the source material and to its many fans.

I just wish Mr Pegg and Mr Wright the best, but I would have been happier if they had found something of their own and made a success of it instead of rewriting the work of others, and then ignoring its creators.

As for not getting Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's insights, blessings, advice, and approval, well that's fuckin' Hollywood for ya'. Although it does follow, in an ethical light, that any use of Wright and Pegg's names would include some monetary and proprietary compensation.

It's like kidnapping someone's kid, keeping it until it's 18, then showing up at the parents door saying "Here's little Jimmy/Jane, all grown up. Guess you can resell that cemetery plot".

as an american, a big part of the show's charm came from seeing how british geeks live, which is awesome because we just don't see that over here. we exploit brits like everything else in this country, plugging them into butler roles or fucking...whatever...you know what i'm talking about. keep up with me, i do flow of conscience TBing. anyway, seeing very real geeks across the pond is just like harry said, "it's like being introduced to a long-lost friend." well said, harry.

but like pegg said, since the average viewer isn't as "savvy" as, say, geeks that get online and scream rage about a beloved britcom being americanized, they don't like to be fascinated by cultural differences, only confused by them. so it is necessary to translate some of the original series to be more accessible to an american audience. i get that. but to think you can get away with it without bringing on board wright/pegg/hynes is insulting not only to us, but more importantly, to them. and since the show was such a niche piece of art that hinged on these three minds, any rehashed version without them will come off as nothing more than a fucking "hip" dharma & greg. aaghh! sorry i just threw up a little in my mouth.

why didn't the original press release just say, "hey you ever seen that show spaced, yeah we don't who did it either, but hey we are going to just go ahead and steal that premise...oh wait, the guy from shaun of the dead was in it. that's cool right? so watch this piece of shit show when it comes out...and buy everything the ads ask you to when they come on." god i love this little gem of a series and if these fucking cockogglers proceed with out so much as consulting with pegg/wright/hynes camp then everything we love about the show will raped and beaten.

Also I don't buy into the idea that all Americans need their comedy spoon fed. Yes the stupid are everywhere, but that is regardless of nationality. There are bad British comedies as much as there are bad American comedies, the only reason we haven't heard about as many bad British is because of the mass-producing, blanketing tactics of the American media. While abnoxious this is not stupid, just very very sad that other countries (like Australia) allow such proliferation of American media onto our home channels.

It's just such a damn shame when something like this seems to be the go. Of course the bottom line is dollars (would be nice if there was some pounds in there too) and shit shows get made all the time, but we can only live in hope that stuff like the American Red Dwarf pilot (and wasn't there even a remake of Coupling at one stage?) get viewed by all the McGs of the world as examples of what NOT to do.

But what truly perplexes me are Americans badmouthing American culture. Do you not realize, you lucky Americans, that you have the BEST culture in the world? The only British shows you get over here are the ones good enough and popular enough to have made the transition to BBC America or PBS. The rest of British television is utter shite. For every noble achievement of British culture over the past 50 years, you could surely name 20 American accomplishments that outstrip the British in every way.

That being sad, I much prefer the American Office to the British. Michael Scott may not match up to David Brent, but I don't think anyone would deny that Dwight K. Schrute OWNS Gareth Keenan!
