...If this is going ahead, live action or animated, I'm fucking interested. Eastmans tenure as owner of Heavy Metal has seen it decline to pretty much a non entity, which is a shame, but its still fun. Perfect geek material. Plus he has to make up for the embarassment that was Heavy Metal 2.

I was being a smart-ass. I did hear that the Benjamin Button trailer would play before the Indiana Jones movie. I just figured that would be more relevant than a project Fincher may or may not do.

Fincher doing a Heavy Metal segment would be cool though, but the guy could film grass grow, and I would watch it.

Heavy Metal was a truly seminal film. Very interesting if this new film will be inspirational or derivative of the original. I haven't looked at a Heavy Metal magazine in a couple decades, but I can't imagine that it has much influence on today's culture. Hell, the 70's mags influenced Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. The new stuff will have to be pretty fucking cool to have any real impact. Hoping it's badass, but doubtful it can pull it off.

02:13:04 AM
He's only got 10 minutes of the film? And Miller and Laid? Who have never directed anything? Well, who else? It might be interesting, I guess. The original certainly puts the "cult" in cult classic, though. (and the "sequel" sucked much ass!) Will it be 3D? Mo-cap? Cel?

It introduced gratuitous nudity and sex into mainstream animation. I think Fritz the Cat was actually the first to do it but Heavy Metal was what all the geeks wanted to see. I mean that chick in the end where she disrobes to swim in the lake. She even had white bush to match her hair.

...this new HM movie will be redemption of the series from the flaming ass-pile that was HM2000. As a developing graphic artist, the original had an enormous impact on me growing up. The first one was incredibly uneven, with moments of brilliance and moments of pure shit on both the story and animation levels. The second one was very consistent - by which I mean that it sucked, consistently. This could easily be the best of the bunch if they can manage to shield it from studio interference. A mix of animation directors and styles seems wholly appropriate.

The original Heavy Metal was excellent in every way: the music, the art, the tits, the violence, the humor and the stories, great on every front. Too bad metal is shit now, and I don't see a daring or creative animated film ekeing its way past any established director's ego or the modern studio machine

06:38:54 PM
I thought the first Heavy metal movie was excellent. Every time I watch it it makes me want to grow my hair out and drive a van with wizards and griffins painted on the side cross country. The soundtrack was what really made it however. The orchestral and the pop tracks. (how Devo got put into a movie called Heavy Metal, however, I'll never know) They should have left it as a series of vignettes however, as trying to tie everything together made NO SENSE AT ALL. HM 2000 was painful rubbish and felt more like a sequel to Starchaser than a sequel to Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal 3? they should get the Suicide Girls involved. The ones that are actually hot, that is. Both members of Tenacious D should be kept 300 yards from the making of this movie at all times
This is some news outta left field!!!

Fuck that, once my Red Camera ships I will fucking well do these films...I've been working at a HD camera rental house long enough..."LA DEE DA DA!!!...And the beat goes on..." one could kick major butt. I'm seeing it along the lines of the "Animatrix" but with an R rating. And plus with Fincher at the quality control helm...I'm very excited about this project as I was a huge (and seriously underage) fan of Heavy Metal back in the Moebius/Corben era. I had to hide them from my parents. Most kids had Playboys stashed under their beds..I hid the Heavy Metals..
